Oceans Restaurant in South Hams

SUPERB…. We had the haddock, chips, minted peas etc personally delivered to our accommodation , a beautiful holiday cottage behind the restaurant, which is dog friendly and has stunning views. The whole experience is excellent and we cannot fault any of it. Everything wonderfully cooked to perfection. Thankyou.

Although we’ve been coming to this area for years we’d never explored Bolberry. We stumbled across Oceans Restaurant during a dog walk and stopped for an excellent lunch. So nice we booked for dinner a couple of nights later and we’ve just returned from a lovely meal, probably the nicest evening out we’ve had for a long time. Excellent food, lovely setting, great service. We will certainly return and highly recommend.

Make sure you book a reservation couldn't see that mentioned anywhere, so after a 45 minute walk to the remote location we were stuck having drinks in the pouring rain (no umbrellas on the outdoor area and wasn't allowed to sit inside without a reservation) in addition to that the prices were rather high considering the subpar quality ( very little alcohol in the cocktails of the drinks ( around £10 more than smaller rounds in the area) on a side note, the wait was rather long considering the place was empty

We arrived at Oceans on Sunday lunchtime last weekend after a challenging and strenuous walk up the hill from Hope Cove. We had planned to have a soft drink, a little rest and walk back again….The aroma of delicious food cooking as we sat at the table tempted us to order some food! My daughter and I chose the lobster and my husband the plaice. Served with fries, and fresh green salad was a fantastic choice for us all. Everything tasted delicious and we felt very lucky to have been able to get a table. The service was impeccable from start to finish. We also chose a bottle of the Vin De Provence (Paradis EssenCiel) which was perfectly chilled and went down very well with our lunch! A fabulous 5* experience from beginning to end with the most magnificent view as well. We will definitely highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return next time we’re in Hope Cove. We were staying locally and ate here quite a few times. It’s only open Wednesday to Sunday. They are dog friendly and there is a fabulous walk for dogs on its doorstep. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, well presented and fresh. We ended our stay with Sunday lunch £19.95! We understood this wasn’t on the summer menu, it was again delicious. Throughly recommend this out of the way restaurant booking on line.

My wife and I had a lovely (childless!) dinner here. The waiter was very helpful and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing. I had mussels to start, then the steak burger. My wife had beetroot salad to start, then king prawns. For a small, fairly remote restaurant, the quality of food was absolutely excellent. The starters were mostly smaller versions of the mains (which I quite like), but a good mixture of seafood and other dishes. It was a comfy and relaxing environment, and though the weather meant that we couldn't see the sea, it was obviously also a great place for the views on a clearer day. Not cheap, but for the quality of food it was really good value for money. We'd go back for sure!

Dog friendly. Great vegan and seafood options. Friendly staff. Lovely log fire to dry off in front of after we hiked the sea cliff paths in the rain. Lovely alcohol free gin & tonic.

Lovely restaurant with welcoming staff and fantastic hot chocolate options. We walked in on a blustery day, dog in tow, and were made very welcome. Lovely views, great cake and the food menu looked really lovely. Unfortunately we arrived mid morning so a little too early for our lunch.

Oceans is well worth the drive or walk situated on Bolberry Down between Salcombe and Hope Cove. Well worth the drive down narrow lanes or walk up from Hope or Salcombe. Excellently cooked food using fresh local ingredients. Service is very good and everyone friendly. Views from the restaurant are excellent. We always try to get to Ocean’s when in the area fully recommend and we will go again soon

SUPERB……went in for lunch, whilst walking from Hope Cove to Salcombe. Really lovely delicious food with quality ingredients, a real treat. A wonderful setting overlooking the sea. Bolberry Down is adjacent to it which is a wonderful walk too.

The food at Oceans is consistently excellent, particularly the fish dishes. It’s our favourite destination in the area. The Bouillabaisse was fantastic.

Excellent food. The ingredients are clearly carefully sourced and perfectly made, which is rare. We cycled here with our Fox Terrier in a backpack. The team could not be more welcoming. Great location and a great informal atmosphere. We’re very much looking forward to returning (even though we went two evenings in a row - it was that good). Well done and thank you.

Booked one evening in the restaurant and enjoyed the food so much we re-booked for a second visit the following day. Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent food and drink. I think that in the summer this will be a lovely location to sit outside and watch the sun going down. No hesitation in re-visiting in the future.

I popped into Ocean's after a walk one morning at Bolberry Down Both my dog and I were given a warm welcome. The place has a nice, fresh feel to it. The young staff were very friendly and the coffee was good. I took a look at the food menu, just out of curiosity, and it appeared to have a good choice. Unfortunately, I was heading home the next day so didn't have the time to try it for myself, but I will definitely keep it in mind for any future trips to the area. Perhaps even stay in the apartments for rent on site. The views are amazing.

Mussels were massive and tasty and King Prawns flavoursome Choice on Menu limited but good - think that this is a good idea as it was quiet - as long as you do the food well which it was - we will come back and that is best recommendation that you can have Views great and staff all friendly

First time we have eaten here - my wife and two dogs. The staff are so friendly and polite, maintained even taking our complicated order. Duck salad was really good, however the mussels were simply superb. Complimented by Salcombe pale ale. Apple tart and ice cream was particularly good - Really easy atmosphere with great music for men of a certain age. Can highly recommend

We arrived here at 2.15 hoping to have a drink and snack of some sort. We sat and sat, eventually went in and were told it was table service, it was too late for food, but we could have cake. Waited at the table - again. Eventually waiter came and took our order. We waited about half an hour by which time the kids were getting fed up. Went inside to check what was happening, basically nothing. We left at 3.15 with no drinks, no food and no apology. Best avoided!!

We weren't quite sure what this would be like, as it is off the beaten track. But the dishes were great - a fairly limited set of choices on the menu but we all had different things and they were all done beautifully. A great evening meal which 3 generations of our family all enjoyed. Thank you!

No response to email. Very difficult to get hold of anyone by phone. There is no lunch menu on website and hasn’t been for months. Whoever owns this restaurant really needs to up their game.

We only came for ice creams and drinks and sat outside but experienced really poor service from a rather grumpy and rude girl behind the counter with zero customer service skills! Will take our custom elsewhere next time!

We had a very nice meal with friends and will certainly come back again. We'd walked from Hope Cove and then carried on afterwards to Salcombe in a party of 6 together with our dog. Staff were very friendly and had given us the nice round table which could also accommodate at least 2 if not 4 of us. Once we had finished our meal the waiting staff seemed to be a bit slow to get us our bill and distracted but overall we really enjoyed it - food, drink & atmosphere were good.

Mooching along the SWCP we spotted Oceans and decided to have lunch. Good decision! Prawns Peri Peri and Fish finger sandwich. Both were excellent. I'm 73 and have to admit that I have never had a fish finger sandwich before. Sorry - sheltered life! It was awesome. Lovely people. The place was packed. We loved it.
