The best fish and chips I've eaten in years. You could taste the sea the fish was that good. I had a seafood restaurant on the isle of man and would highly recommend 😋 This was amazing.

There's little choice locally.Cod and chips for 4. Was OK but not exceptional. I live in a small town where there are at least 3 f and c shops much better, but there you go. A nightmare to use if you go by car.

3 visits. The fish and chips are really excellent, and the staff are generally friendly. You can wait a really long time, though - 40 to 50 mins if you don't pre-order, and 20 mins even if you do.

Always cracking fish & chips here and I should know as I've been using this brilliant chippery for the last 30 years at least!

Lovely fish and chips high up the hill on the way out of Ventnor - massive piece of cod and proper chips for far less that you would pay on the seafront. Great staff & service, would come back here anytime.

I love how this fish and chip shop offers a discount when you pay cash. I only pay cash, so this is a win for me. Great service and food.

I often visit the chip shop on a Friday night as a treat for myself and my son. Always lovely service with fresh food. I will continue to be a customer for a long time.

Eleven of us pitched up close to closing on a rainy night and emerged with lovely grub at a ridiculous (in a good way) price. Highly reccomended.

Bad batter, bad chips, (which is hard to achieve) and bad service

Good fish and decent chips, with quite exceptional service. They stayed open an extra few minutes so that we could collect our food on the way back from a delayed ferry, and were charming and friendly even though we had kept them open late. Highly recommended.

Best cod bites on the island, waiting time is minimal portion size is great and the kids meal boxes are great for value definitely recommend

I was passing the chip shop on my way home when I could smell them and decided to stop and get some chips. I was served by a young lady with a lovely smile. The chips were amazing. Thanks guys xx

The batter was a teeny bit tough on the fish but was fine otherwise. Chips were really nice! Prices were very reasonable and the service was friendly and prompt.

Rubbish portion sizes, rubber chips, expensive prices and 'full of attitude' replies to any negative reviews. I hate going there now and I won't be going back! I've posted a pic I took of the "large" chips which was pathetic, just like the argumentative loser owner. Your prices don't sound too bad until you see what you get for it! Whoever replies to their reviews is an absolute goldmine of information about just how they view their customers. See below for what I'm in no doubt will be a stinking own goal. Garbage. Brilliant. Having seen the reply to my review, the proprietor seems to be under the illusion that reviews cannot possibly refer to recent visits, just ones made at the time of the review. So his scathing and very very witty response (that's sarcasm, dear owner, as you're obviously too thick to get to this conclusion by yourself) just looks utterly stupid. Also: their batter was soggy (you shouldn't have to ask to NOT have soggy batter) and their battered sausages are terrible. At least they take card payments now! (Welcome to the 21st century, now you can be terrible digitally!) And the reason I didn't know you'd been doing it for years is because we hate you, but our kids were asking for chips and my car was in for an MOT. How about instead of being antagonistic, aggressive, dismissive and rude, you improve your attitude. Idiot.

Fish was really well cooked. The batter was crispy. We had haddock and cod. The sizes were small compared to where we are from. And we dont live by the sea. Four stars, it would have been five, but for the sizes. Curry sauce was ok. Usual chippy stuff. But! What really let it down badly was the undercooked chips. Sorry, but if a chippy can't get this right then.... We've never had undercooked chips anywhere else in this world.

Excellent fish, including steamed if you wish, friendly service, good choice and not expensive. Would highly recommend but telephone order ahead as always fresh fish daily, "when it's gone it's gone".

It's been a family tradition for many years that my mum and dad ,3 grown up kids and a grandchild ,plus me and my partner have fish and chips , usually on a Wednesday evening but sometimes Saturday lunchtime . Believe you me it's not cheap feeding all of us !. By eldest and me always have extra large cod and chips Thou we have eaten from this shop a couple of times which serves decent grub it's the opening hours that a big turn off . This is the first fish and chip shop that I've known to open 2 hour a day between 5 and 7 pm . This might be because times have changed and upper ventnor is desolate with little people around or it might be the fella who runs the shop does so as a hobby instead of collecting stamps . Whatever the reason , my family eat when we're hungry , not always the time frame of 2 hours which the shop is open . Not bad grub but appalling opening hours , therefore my £80 ,I spend of fish and chips weekly gets spent in a shop that has OPEN on its door .

Always pristine clean and the cod is real thick chunky cod in traditional batter.

Purchased large cod/chips 30th Sept....really disappointed...used to be my favourite chop shop ....I was told my fish would take 15 mins so I sat down to wait and lo and behold it was ready in less than 2 minutes...the fish looked and tasted like it was left over from lunch time and reheated....it was dry with the batter texture like crunchy toffee ...sad !

We have always made a visit to the Ocean View fish and chips shop the first night on arrival to the Isle of Wight work or pleasure. The opening times are restricted, which is understandable due to the cost of running. The service was prompt and pleasant. We waited outside as we had our dog, but you could sit inside till ready. This last time, we ordered fish and chips with pea fritters. It was freshly cooked with a wait of about 15-20ish minutes. It was very hot, fresh, filling and delicious! We will defently keep returning.

Have been getting fish and chips from this takeaway for about 10 years now; after reading some reviews today I just had to write one of my own. I’d called ahead and requested extra crispy batter for my cod, and also extra crispy chips - it’s the best meal I’ve had from here - and the staff were happy and friendly. I would (selfishly) love it if this takeaway were to stay open later than 7pm, as we are often not hungry until after that time. Thank you for a lovely meal Ocean View!

Have eaten fish and chips from this shop through the various owners over a 27 year period. Had cod and chips today found the fish lovely and fine chips. But found the batter very thick ,stodgy and under cooked inside all white.

Just called in here by chance - needed food to takeaway. Best piece of chippy cod I’ve ever had - large portion and reasonable price. Freshly fried there and then. Excellent!

Excellent fish and chips, you have to wait 10 mins while cooking, but apparently you can ring in your order in advance. We are visitors to the I.O W and this is a must visit on our return.

Excellent cod and chips (large). More than enough for someone with a healthy appetite !! Freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. Lovely view whilst you wait for your greshly cooked meal.

Came this evening for fish and chips, lovely place everything is cooked fresh to order. We didn't have to wait long for our food and it smelt so good we came back for an extra portion of chips just incase. Service was friendly and efficient. Ordered cod and haddock, both beautifully fresh and the fish itself tasted amazing the only thing that let it down was the batter. The entire inside of both of the fish were still covered in raw batter on the inside still. being 20mins away from the shop we just pulled the batter off and cooked the fish a little more to be safe. Such a shame as everything else we had was perfectly cooked and hot.

Busy place, clearly popular. Very chatty with those they know. As visitor not overly welcoming. Misleading signage as to where an entrance was, wasn't.

Excellent fish and chips. Reasonably priced and served with a smile. Two recommendations: # Ring your order ahead. The line opens at 4.30. # If you're bringing the car when you collect, park it on Steephill Down Road. There are no restrictions here.

Best Fish & Chips on The Island! We drive over from East Cowes and phone whilst en route (from the passenger seat)! The food is always ready upon arrival and their food is the best we've ever had!!! Can VERY highly recommend! :)

Be aware - despite this being a take away chippy, DO NOT expect to turn up and walk straight out with your fish 'n' chips! The majority of customers order in advance and walk ups have no priority. We wanted two small portions of cod and chips, were "order number 22" and got them 25 minutes later. They were good, but be mindful!

Better to phone your order ahead as very busy

17/06/2022 its Friday 5:00pm can I get fish and chips ..... No because of the Festival !! what has that got to do with opening I cannot believe this business. Why bother having the business 11 hours per week is ridiculous in an area like Upper Ventnor why not just sell up if you cant be bothered let someone else take it to give the community a proper service !

I came to the island on Wednesday 16th December to visit my parents before Christmas. We decided to have some fish and chips from our favourite fish and chip shop. So I checked the hours and at 5pm got in the car and drove to ventnor ... low and behold, not open, very disappointed.

We came here for to grab dinner one night to eat on the beach. I'm not too fussed on fish but decided to go for some cod bites, which were delicious. The chips were also lovely. Would definately have fish and chips here again!

Lovely fish and chips. Arrived just after opening time of 5.00pm, because of COVID only one person at a time in the shop. Just one person in front of us so didn’t have to wait long to order. Cooked fresh so approximate wait of about 10minutes before order was ready.No problem at all and portion size just right.Lovely jubbly.

Very tasty meal from here, freshly cooked, reasonably priced. Have to queue outside due to covid rules but all ok.

Excellent fish and chips - big notice telling you to check your order before leaving - a pretty well impossible request, unless you insist on watching each item enumerated and added to your bag as you watch - with the bag fully in sight of you all the time. Two successive visits we had items omitted from our order. Mushy peas on the first occasion and one medium cod on the second. Sorry - I am prepared to believe one error, but two "begins to look like sheer carelessness" - or worse. If you come here, you will be charged for your full order, but don't be surprised if your full order is not what you get. Great shame: our quite expensive meal was ruined.

If you have to eat here make sure you don't go early as you will be eating lunch time warm up. We went 5pm one member of staff said 10min then the other said no we have some ready now we ended up feeding the seagulls.

It is best to phone your order in, as they are small and busy. The food was great, we ate there twice in 10 days. They have adapted to Covid requirements extremely well with great card payments, rigorous hygiene, social distancing etc and I can't recommend them highly enough if you're looking for fish and chips in Ventnor.

As much as it was an 'ok' dinner. Value for money was appalling, a large chips was no bigger than your average portion for 1 and when you request another large portion, the small quantity you receive will set you back another £4 (we'd already ordered 2 large chips that usually are fit for a family meal). We don't normally use this Chippy, but thought we'd treat the family and this one was open so thought we'd give it a try. Unfortunately we will not be going back, as much as the dinner was enjoyed it's not the best we've had and certainly not value for money. Think we will just wait for others to be open before ordering next time. With that being said it's great that you can order over the phone... not so great the guy wearing the mask was only wearing it on his chin?! Ridiculous service and I wouldn't say the food was worth the money it will set you back. Unfortunately a bad experience that I will not be repeating with them.

You can phone and make an order and collect .The battered cod and chips are just the best,I love the mushy peas too. It's an exceptionally clean kitchen and serving bar. This has always been the case but now the COVID-19 is circulating, they have thought of everything hygiene wise. The staff wear masks and gloves. Payment is now by card. Only one person allowed in at a time and there is a new huge glass screen to stop any risk to the staff or the public.The cartons are cardboard and recyclable .You are treated with respect.Thank you for thinking of everything and being open at this very difficult time .Annabelle

Last night we were craving fish and chips and decided to give the shop a call to see if they were open, a lovely gentleman answered the phone, (I was expecting an ogre from the previous reviews) he apologised they were really busy but took my name and said they would be about an hour. We didn't mind at all and turned up to the shop just over an hour later. We were greeted by a cheery young lady(obviously socially distancing) who promptly checked our order and in the time it took to pay the team behind had wrapped our fish and chips. We live approx 10mins away and even when we got home the chips were hot, the batter on the fish crispy and a the fish was tasty and perfectly cooked! Well done to the guys and girls at ocean view fish and chips you are doing an amazing job in such difficult times. The staff all had PPE and social distancing measures were in place.Keep up the good work! Please don't be put off by the negative reviews.

I visited this fish and chip shop some time ago. I should have posted a review earlier to save some people a lot of disappointment so apologies big you've been caught out at this place.I knew there was something wrong by the way the man behind the fryer was behaving. I was watching him closely as he appeared to be fiddling around with our order rather than wrap it up and hand it over.As we were driving and en route to somewhere else we, eventually, took our order and got into the car. There is free parking but as far as I could tell only on the street outside.We decided to stop in a layby some way out of the town and were horrified at what we had been given.We'd obviously been palmed off with some junk that he thought he'd get away with giving us, (do we look like tourists perhaps?? We are not).Utterly inedible, he must have scraped the back of the chip box out to find that many dried up, burnt, fried to a frazzled bits of potato.The fish seemed to be a construction of several small pieces glued together with batter that was so overcooked it was the texture of honeycomb but so hard I could hardly break it.Never again.

A traditional fish and chip shop but with stunning views. Have been coming to the island for years and always visit this chippy. Buy your food and sit on the wall outside and admire the stunning view.

There’s a well known saying that goes something like this....”The customer is always right” There’s also a well known saying in Ventnor that goes like this......”The customer is always right, unless you’re In The Ocean View Fish and Chip shop, where, no matter what your problem is, you are the one at fault”I love the Fish and Chips here, if you’re lucky enough to visit during the narrow window of there being lovely fresh fish available. I think the replies to some of the more critical reviews goes some way to my way of thinking that despite the fact that the fish and chips can be great, it’s the staff, (sorry, the management...the young girls working there are very nice) , that really puts you off. Sometimes I’m scared to go in, just in case something goes wrong and I’m made to feel bad.Oh, and I’m not a competitor, or someone who owns another place in town. I’m a visitor who knows the area, and just understands good customer service, because apart from the quality of the produce, that’s what’s it all about

Called them at 18:58 on Saturday 30th November. I asked “could we order some fish and chips” I was told they close in 2 minutes. When I said that the website said they closed at 7, he said they don’t have a website and hung up. (I meant google / tripadvisor. They don’t actually have a website, if you click on the link for their website on tripadvisor, it takes you to Harry Ramsdens Brighton website!!) I then rang up again and explained that I meant google had told me that the restaurant closed at 8, he told me that he has nothing to do with that and that it wasn’t his problem. As a small business owner, you’d have thought he would take more care to a) make sure his details were correct. And b) not speak like such an ignorant man to a customer?!For a restaurant doing such great food, they lack in every social/business aspect.I don’t live on the island, but my family do. I’ve tried hard to not to leave a bad review for this place as they are only up the road. But this particular establishment needs to know when they have to change the way they handle their customers, local or tourists.

Moved to this F&C takeaway when our regular closed down and were so pleased gave it a try. Really good quality F&C all freshly cooked and nicely presented. Welcoming smiles from very pleasant helpful and obliging staff. Downside - It is a nightmare to find somewhere to park if all spaces are taken on the road at rear of the takeaway so may have to drop somebody off to pick up your order. Note : Make sure have cash as don't take cards.

Visited this fish and chip shop to collect our take away. The service was a little slow and the chips weren't as good as I'd remembered from previous visits.

After a long wait (20 mins) after ordering we had a mixed batch of fish and chips.

Please be warned they only take cash. The food was cooked in front of you and was very tasty. They had a good selection on the menu which helps when you have choosy kids.

We ordered fish & chips from here on the last evening of our holiday. The wait was average and to be expected at any decent chippy, with the added bonus of the fantastic sea views.

We live 5 minutes away from this chippy and enjoy their food. over a period of 2 years we used them often. After experiencing a few genuine mistakes (which are always apparently my fault - never theirs) which are normally sorted, I experienced an order which led to me deciding never to use them again.

How many fish & Chip shops do you know with seating and a view of the English Channel while you wait for your freshly fried fish and chips. It’s cash only , parking is limited, but it’s well worth the effort and the wait. Our fish was very good the chips not so. Portions are huge . When they runout they close . Check the website for opening time’s. You can take phone your order in with a pick up time

The chips here are great, and the portions are huge. There is a rumour going around saying that they also do fish, but whenever I’ve shown up they don’t have any.

What a lovely chippy. Really pleasant staff and owner. Chips and fish were beautiful and fresh everyone was very happy with their food, kids had sausage, chicken bites and scampi all yummy. Been to some top chippies in the UK and this is definitely up there. Everything freshly cooked to order. Worth phoning the order in to avoid waiting although even that is minimal. Very good service, clean and great food. Will be a regular.

We regularly have fish and chips at ocean in ventnor whilst the fish and chips are ok the staff are very disinterested and unfriendly they hardly look at you when they serve you and neither say hello or goodbye - all the staff are the same without exception - we live here on the island but I think what a shame that holiday makers have to receive such unfriendly service -come on smile be friendly it doesn’t take much - service with a smile that’s what we want !!

Nearly always starting our holiday on a Friday, Fish and Chips is the first thing we go out for and this place is always a great choice! It gets very busy at peaks times so either pre ordering or getting there early is advisable.

Having read the reviews we followed the advice from the shop and used the phone so we didn't have to moan. Having stayed in self-catering accommodation in Ventnor five times previously, we are regular consumers of fish and chips but have missed out on Ocean View. Our first experience was fantastic.

My boyfriend and I went here a couple of hours before they closed and they had nothing but burgers, chips and pies left... I didn't order anything but my boyfriend got a burger and chips as there was nothing else open on Monday evening. The food was okay but not the best, the chips were edible but tasted like they just been heated up a few times, wouldn't recommend.

We were delighted that our experience lived up to the excellent reviews of this small fish and chip take-away! We ordered two large haddock and chips, and these were cooked to order. Our wait was quick and we drove back to our holiday apartment smelling the lovely aromas of our fish and chips. They were delicious - fish tasty and succulent, in crispy batter, and chips full of flavour. Ocean View must use very good quality potatoes. All in all a great meal and we would encourage anyone to go to Ocean View.

Went out on the bus the other day and passed here so decided to get off and grab bite to eat. Don't go out ventnor way much, so hadn't eaten here before. Ordered a plain burger and medium chips. Big filling portions, lovely freshly cooked food. Came to just over a fiver ! Couldn't fault anything. Thanks to the staff, keep up the food work and I'll be back !

When back on the Island, wouldn't order fish & chips anywhere but the Ocean View. Always recommend , it never disappoints.
