Great fish and chips but unfortunately it has now closed down for good, the owners have decided to sell up.

Excellent haddock and chips with fish cakes for the kids. Good choices on the menu to accommodate most people. Recommended

The food from this establishment was amazing. The 8oz Cheese Burger was the best I’ve ever had. The chips were fluffy yet crispy which is perfect in my opinion. You defiantly get your moneys worth. These guys know what they’re doing and a great at it. Would recommend this to anyone

Popped in for tea the fish was very nice, chunky freshly cooked in a very light crispy batter. Non greasy and very tasty. Didn’t have chips so cannot comment but the fish I would certainly purchase again

We always look forward to Lake fish and chips when we visit! It’s still as good as ever! Great impression when you walk it, looks clean and friendly staff! Really impressive gluten free options which is great to see and one of our group is coeliac and raved about the choice and the fish and chips was delicious! Keep up the good work, we’ll be back!

Fabulous fish, very chunky. A lovely friendly family run Fish Bar. The fish is lovely and fresh and chunky if you have cod. Good selection of choice. Staff very friendly.

Absolutly delicious, lovely crispy and tasty batter surrounding large flakes of cod. Chips were very tasty too. Staff were cheerful and very polite. 😊

They do grilled fish here, which was amazing. Also, they were very good for catering for a large group all food was pipping hot

Avoid LAKE FISH BAR! Why in this day and age do companies incist on going CASH ONLY? It makes no sense when since COVID more people use Card and payment meters over carrying cash. I know the ISLE OF WIGHT is known for being behind the times but this is 2023 not 1990! And the only reason in this day and age that companies go CASH ONLY is because they are cash in hand, and probably fiddling the Taxes or Shafting employees. So I go to LAKE FISH BAR and they have their cash only sign with "I'm sorry for any inconvenience" ... Like the "inconvenience" of having to walk a quarter mile for the nearest ATM dodging three rows of traffic just to get the cash out to pay them physical money that I could've paid in seconds via a contactless payment. They obviously haven't the brain power to workout that having cash and card would increase their footfall and gross income at least 30%. So inspite of people having to go find cash in 2023, Lake Fish Bar have selective hearing. Before leaving to go get cash, I told my wife what I wanted and I her tell the cashier exactly what we wanted.. and when I returned and paid them what they wanted.. they "didn't hear" my wife's order, even though I heard her recite the order perfectly. So instead of apologizing for their mistake they state that they have the missing item.. and we would have to pay extra for their mistake. At this I took the incomplete order which I payed for and left the building. When we got back we found the food to be almost inedible, greasy chips, Luke warm savolies and the steak & kidney pie was disgusting. They even managed to ruin curry sauce by not mixing it enough and leaving it grainy and stodgy. Most chip shops on the Isle of Wight are a delight.. the food is well cooked and you can pay by card. Not Lake Fish Bar! ... Avoid like the plague!

We placed a phone order this evening, the call was answered swiftly with a lovely freindly style. Our order was taken with a collection time . The food was absolutely delicious, very generous portions and wonderfully tasty. Many thanks, and we will definitely be back. 😀👍

As a ceoliac I've tried quite a few chippys in the past few years, but this one is definitely the best. Absolutely well worth five stars for their Gluten free batter 👍🏻😁 And very reasonably priced too. Tasty fish and chips. From the moment it was unwrapped I was excited, the batter was substantial, golden and crunchy. Cod, sausage, cod roe and a spam fritter all battered, totally lived up to my memory of how batter'Should' be 😍👍🏻 Very happy indeed. Thoroughly recommend a visit .

Large cod really is large and really nicely cooked...only place in the south I have found that does a potato scolop and they are great...chips always good as well...my new local.

Large cod was a great size but slightly underdone (and do watch for bones) , batter soggy, chips ok but not very hot, food in general was ok and wode selection but not amazing quality. Lovely staff and great service but unlikely to go again.

Bought fish and chips from here after spending a day out on the island. The fish itself was very nice to be honest, but the chips were appalling! They must have been the dregs from the bottom of the fryer, consisting of tiny bits, hard, over-crispy, far too many and really awful. They were like they had been kept from the day before and heated up again! Four of us bought food from there and 3 of us couldn't stomach the chips, so we had to waste food by throwing them away, which is against what we usually practice. It was the only time we had any fish and chips on our holiday and we were so looking forward to them. From seeing other reviews singing their praises, we must have been very unlucky to have gone there on a bad day. Come on Lake Fish Bar, serve a lot less of them and make sure they are at least fresh, edible and larger than a child's finger! It was a pity that the shop wasn't nearer, as we would have gone back to complain face to face.

Just had the tastiest fish and chips with a delicious crispy batter with huge chunks of cod too and all piping hot. Staff were friendly and the shop itself lovely and clean 10/10

Really pleasant visit cleanliness was excellent on walking in staff extremely friendly on arrival.. Had to pop back as an item missing, staff were really helpful and couldn’t do enough to apologise… Most importantly the food was amazing I recommend 100%

I found this chippy excellent tbh , I had large cod and chips and the Mrs had sausage and chips , both lovely , and the cod was one of the best I've had . I even went back to tell the staff so . The staff are lovely and friendly . Nice experience all round so glad we stopped on the off chance . Next time I'm in the I.O.W I'm visiting again .

Ordered fish and chips from Lake Fish Bar 2 weeks last weeks the fish was tiny for a small size of a small sausage. This week ordered a medium it was tiny Not good for the cost, my daughters battered sausage was much bigger and a fraction of the price

We recently camped in Sandown and chose this fish shop as our holiday treat. The shop was covid safe. Staff nice and friendly. Prices reasonable. Food was delicious, I would definitely buy from this fish shop again in the future.

We have fish and chips and similar meals from here once or twice a month.... great friendly staff, couldn't be more helpful....food cooked fresh to order 99% the time.... never have to wait to long and doing all they can for us and themselves to...

Had a takeaway from here last night. Ordered in advance, paid and picked up securely. Very COVID-19 safe. Reasonably priced. Huge portions of chips. And fish was cooked well with crispy batter. Wrappers were sodden with oil/ grease though, which was our only complaint. Tasty,...

Had the unfortunate experience of having fish and chips from this place yesterday. Wow it was disgusting. Chips cold and greasy, fish was not fresh at all, threw most of it away. Never again

We used Lake Fish Bar this evening for the very first time and was really impressed. We telephoned the order through and it was ready 20 minutes later for collection. The food was really good and generous portion sizes.

Visited last night. Food cooked fresh. My battered fish (large cod) amazing. Batter stayed crispy - despite being taken to seafront some 8 min drive-- to eat. Chips good too. All stayed hot as well. Perfect

Visited here today as me and my family are on holiday in the Isle of Wight. Lovely food and decent portions, we wouldn't expect to pay £16 back home but they were lovely chips!

Ordered 2 large cod, large chips & 2 fish cakes, costing nearly £20 which is fair if the food was half decent! Fish cakes were nice, enjoyed those. On the other hand, cod & chips were extremely poor! Fish was absolutely swimming in oil and chips were soggy & rubbery! Oil had clearly not been changed in a while as it was dark brown. Will not return, very disappointed.

Hi, I hadn’t had fish and chips here for a while but as I was waiting for it to open, the aroma of cooking was fantastic. The staff are welcoming and efficient plus the cod and chips were excellent.

Whilst staying in nearby Ventnor, about 10 mins drive away, we called into Lake fish and chips for tea.

We get our local fish and chips here because it's within walking distance of home. Chips are great and we love the fish batter. Most of all, it's always the same; it's good to know it's reliable and consistent.

Popped in to see what they had on offer that was gluten free ... well impressed.

Went here for the first time and was really pleased. Friendly staff . Great price and fantastic food. Highly recommended. The only issue would be the parking but they cannot do anything about that. It's a must visit for anyone doing self catering or can't get a hotel evening meal.

Staff are very friendly, there can be a wait at busy times as food is cooked to order. The batter on our fish was lovely and crispy and the fish was very tasty. A large portion of chips was enough for three and all at a reasonable price. Cannot wait for my next visit.

Decided to have fish and chips one night while staying in Sandown on holiday. Staff was very friendly and took our order promptly despite being quite busy with a queue and phone orders. Food was lovely and just right for a chippy and the portions are decent. I also found the establishment very clean - happy to recommend Lake Fish Bar.

Very special treat. The staff very happy to grill my fish as I cannot eat batter. We phoned, placed our order and picked it up in no time at all with no fuss or bother. Lovely service and excellent sea - tasty plaice. We also ordered cod in batter and I'm reliably informed this was just as delicious. As were the chips! We've done it before and it was brilliant then too. And very generous portions. Thank you Lake Fish Bar for cheering up our Friday night tea times! We'll be back for more very soon.

Friendly chippy serving a variety of food with chips. Small wait as everything is cooked fresh. The shop has some history as bakers, grocery and there is some old pictures on the wall. Located on busy main road between Sandown and Shanklin.

First time to use Lake fish bar and was disgusted. By the time we had arrived home with our fish and chips the paper was swimming in grease from the food. The batter on the fish was very poor quality each bite was full of grease. Will not be returning and will never recommend!! Very very poor!

Ordered by telephone tonight for first time. Admittedly haven't been in there for a bit but last time could pay by card which was great but when I went to pick up order is now cash only. Had no cash on me so had to cash point up the road. Annoying as wasn't told of change in policy when ordering. When I returned to pay for my order I mentioned that it would have been nice to have been advised when I placed my order especially as change is I think relatively recently. Owners response to suggestion was at first Well we don't know how you wanted to pay and the when I reiterated that I was only making this a suggestion I was told well90%of our customers pay in cash. I apologise for not spending every week in the chippy like some people do but perhaps if I did I would have been spoken to with a little more courtesy. I don't expect the owner to moan the loss of my custom but felt I should at least warn people want they might expect

Bienvenida con un hola, tan pronto como entré en el umbral. El personal era agradable y servicial, que tomó mi pedido y preparado muy rápidamente. Patatas fritas me recordó de patatas fritas hechas en casa después de un largo día en la playa. No es el típico gusto pero mejor! El pescado estaba caliente! La cantidad de pasta (que permanecía en el pescado) es el único inconveniente costo para el tamaño de la porción, me dejó queriendo más. . . Y un poco de hambre! Volveremos! Gracias

Had a couple of fish suppers from here, fish cooked to order, lovely batter with lovely cod inside, Great chips and no grease! The service is excellent and waiting time minimum. If in Lake, try them, you'll love it.

Pedimos 2 grandes y 1 chips grandes abadejo. El Abadejo era enorme y muy húmedos y el bateador era muy buena. Era más que suficiente para nosotros dos. Absolutamente precioso.

The cod was cooked in Castrol DTX engine oil, the chips resembled sun dried flip flops, and the request for a crusty buttered roll resulted in a plastic coated burger bap smeared with lard.

The food was extremely greasy. It made my husband vomit and he was very ill for the rest of the night. Most of the food ended up in the bin. The fish was chewy and tasteless. The woman who served us was extremely rude and made us feel like we were an inconvenience to her. Will never return.

went on the friday and me and my brother both had chicken burger and chips and my dad had pasty and chips. i never went inside the chip shop but the food was amazing. the burger was nice and creamy just the way i like it.

Was reccomended this place by a local, so went in for a chip supper. Ordered my food, noticing the price of the fish and the chips, and thought at the price the portions should be big. Well.... got home, opened the bags and was quite dissapointing by the size of the portions. A large cod looked small, and was overcooked. The chips were OK, but still seemed small for the price.Been to better chip shops, where the cost was a little less, but the portion sizes were quite a bit larger.

On my solo visit here in March i looked at reviews for a good old "chippie" local to where i was staying.The Lake fish bar had good reviews,but unfortunately not for me.I ordered Haddock and Chips,the portion size was huge,maybe i should have ordered a smaller portion of chips.The chips were,well chips,nothing special,the Haddock was huge but alas,very,very greasy batter,cant say i would return here in too much of an hurry.

Had a fish & chip take away from here, luckily we arrived just as it opened at 5pm as this is a popular place with locals and the queue gets quite long.Delicious cod, lovely chips and the littleone enjoyed her nuggets & chips. All in all a very nice take away and in my opinion reasonably priced when compared to other fish & chip takeaways we have had.

Food is lovely and tasty - but rather overpriced! Additionally, the woman who served me was rude and miserable and made me feel awkward and like I was annoying her, which just made me want to leave without my food (VERY unlike me!)
