Ocean Spice in Hastings

We have been to the restaurant a few times before lockdown and was impressed by the food then, We decided to have a takeaway for my birthday and again impressed by the food. Bonus food was also hot when it arrived. we will be using them again.

We ordered a takeaway off Ocean Spice, Have never ordered from them before but ive said hello to a couple of the guys on passing and often thought, nice people cook nice food::)As one of our mates was vegan.. great flavours, the food was prompt and the lads were really friendly.. however, got home and part of the order was missing, not that I would have known, but a quick sk8 to grab the rest and the job was a good en..Good honest food with smiley people serving it u is just the best starter you can ask for to set you up to eat some scrumptious Authentic Indian food..Cant wait togo eat there, Christmas menu looks great..Keep at em boys, loving your work.. We recently ordered a take away and was very impressed with portion sizes and quality of the food! We have tried every curry house in town and like to try new ones! We decided today to pop into the restaurant based on our recent positive experience! And we were not disappointed! In fact we were wowed!The staff were ALL so attentive! We were offered a complimentary starter which was delicious! Our mains were huge we had to take the left overs in a doggy bag! The owner also took the time to have a chat! We will be back! It is so refreshing to have the great standard of food combined with high level of service! And the bill....... meal for 2 with beers and sides.... under 40 quid!Thank you Ocean Spice! You have a new regular!!!

Down south for a few days and dont mind a curry 🤣 read some positive reviews so gave it a try. Wow! Great food, great flavour and taste. Friendly staff. Loved it.

I came in yesterday with my best friend for a special occasion and we had a lovely meal and I went to the bathroom. to only over hear that the waitress was talking about our table and called me a fat b*tch and was giving me dirty looks and clearly talking about me to the waiter I was devastated and I did not want to talk to the waitress after. One of the waitresses were lovely and kind towards our table but the other I could not believe how rude she was being towards the customers that are paying her wages. To call one of her customers a fat b*tch in front of other customers at the bar is disgusting and I will not ever return to this restaurant due to the rudeness. Lovely food but horrible staff.

Lovely restaurant with amazing food and excellent staff! There was some difficult customers and the staff dealt with them brilliantly.

Never been to this one in town before, but most definitely worth the visit. The papadums arrived with new style sauces, for a main I went for the Hare Mirchi Tamarind and the Wife the Hare Mirchi Garlic ,both recommended, also a variety of sides and Cheese Naan.The food was excellent and well presented with pleasant and friendly staff. If your looking for a good eat out then well worth the effort

Order placed with discount, delivery came in a good time. Very large portions for price. But ... the amount of oil was shocking, you expect some but eww. Samosas were meat, when we ordered veg. Must have had inch of oil in corner of paper bag that they were packed in. And they fell to bits when removed. Did ask for refund but it didn’t happen. All dishes were spicy. Very unsatisfied, especially as we heard great reviews. 3/4 of dinner thrown in bin!

OMG! Don't eat here, food was horrible, I ordered for an aristocratic fish meal and it was horrible! Wasted £13.95! ALSO IT DIDNT LOOK HYGEINIC

The menu has all the classic dishes, along with House Specials and Chefs choice, plenty of choice. The food is very tasty indeed, and the sell Bangladesh Premium Beer, which I prefer to Cobra. Friendly staff, and if you go on Sunday or Thursday they have a special offer, which is great value for money.Give the Ocean Spice a try, you won’t be disappointed.

We have had a couple of takeaways from here now and the food has been very good and the service good as well so would definitely recommend it here as we will be back.

On our Anniversary we thought we would treat ourselves to a curry. As we have used Ocean Spice many times before we thought we would have a good meal. Once delivered we found they had forgotten our rice, after calling them we had to wait for the delivery driver to return with the rice. On unpacking the order my husband realised our Naan breads were incorrect but not wanting our food to get any colder we decided not to bother calling again. As we began serving our rice we came across pieces of what looked like meat and the end of ginger/garlic... Who knows, still with the skin on! It honestly looked like it had been scraped off people's plates! I am a vegetarian and also not keen on unidentified food in my rice ( this has never been the case before!) already cross we then called Ocean Spice again. The man we spoke to argued that there was nothing wrong with the rice and that was the way it was served. We asked them to collect the food and to give us a refund. The man turned up with the delivery driver and continued to argue with me about the rice, saying that the chef ( let's hope not an illegal worker) cooks the rice with lumps of ginger and that's what it was. He blatantly refused to refund even when I added the bread was wrong and we had to wait for our disgusting rice! I told him I had consumer rights but he wasn't interested. With that I said I would contact trading standards to which he encouraged me to do so saying I wouldn't get my refund if I did! £42 down the drain, it ruined our wedding Anniversary and left me flabbergasted that considering there recent issues that they wouldn't want to satisfy their customers who had stayed loyal to them.Please, never give these people your money... Go elsewhere!!!!

The scene was set. A wonderful curry, many cobra beers, a keema naan. The making of a dream evening. Enter the double espresso. I can only compare said espresso to the dark liquid found in pothole puddle on an outer city estate. What made it worse was the sheer lack of empathy and arrogance of the waiter. If you can even call him that. When challenged as to this dark liquid abyss he offered the response of “its an espresso and I have video footage of me making it”. Not only was this a blatant lie unless he is the espresso voyeur. A sad end to a good evening. I would hope in due course the tax man takes an interest in the hand written receipts.

Monday night at 6pm the place was packed and we were sent upstairs which also was full.No social distancing,no gloves being changed.... and waiters with masks around their necks.Staff going in the freezer by where we were sitting all night and people walking out after waiting so long for their food.Terrible end of a nice day.!!!

First time here but definitely will not be my last I must say it was one of the nicest vindaloo’s I have had, staff are very polite and courteous so the next time I’m in Hastings I will definitely be returning to this friendly tasty restaurant

Truly the worst Indian I have ever encountered. Having eaten at Ocean Spice a couple of years ago I remembered it as alright. So I ordered a vegetarian platter for home delivery. The samosas were rubbery, the onion bhajis were like rocks. The "tandoori panir" consisted of a single 2cm by 2cm cube of panir - painted with tandoori spice - that was it. And there was some weird breadcrumb-covered patty I couldn't identify. All of the food had poor texture, like when you reheat something in the microwave. I took a sample taste of everything and threw the meal in the bin. Never again.

Second time since lockdown I have ordered from ocean spice ( through Uber eats) I order set meal for 4 and it feeds 5 of us for two days and we are never disappointed with the selection of dishes included 😋

Was visiting Hastings to see family and stumbled across this gem of a restaurant. Been to a lot of restaurants around England and I can honestly say this stands out from them all. Used a few others in a past in Hastings and they are no comparison to ocean spice. The staff were amazing and the service was second to none. Anyone visiting Hastings should definitely use this place and you won’t be left disappointed. Will be getting another a takeaway tomorrow before heading back up north.

I have ordered from this restaurant several time over the last few years. Yesterday I found a long dark hair in my salad. I called the restaurant and received a third degree from the manager (what colour and length was the hair and looks like a female hair...and we don't have female employees...blah bla), basically trying to pin the blame on me. Shame on you!

Just enjoyed a very good take away from ocean spice, the quality is just as good as the restaurant. Would highly recommend.

This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Hastings, food is always excellent, curries are perfectly spiced and full of meat, chicken tikka is the best for many miles, Bombay potatoes are firm and spicy, naans are light and fluffy, very pleasant knowledgeable staff are attentive but not standing at your shoulder,Top notch curry house

As usual the food was very nice, chicken tikka starter and chicken chat puree were lovely, chicken madras and vindaloo were full of meat, both sauces were very flavorful, Bombay potatoes were excellent. This restaurant has never failed us on food or service, just wish I lived closer as it would definitely be my regular.

We went Christmas day and it was packed.full of happy people. The food was excellent and service was efficient and quick. We came back after a very good meal the previous year and were not disappointed. They organised us a taxi Christmas day not easy.Looking forward to next year. We use this restaurant year round they have a very good chef.We will be back.Belinda and Mike

I always eat in the restaurant, mostly on ‘banquet’ nights - thurs or Sunday. One of the waiters is pretty slapdash - seems to be high on something - but we got there in the end.wide menu with some pretty good dishes and good size portions - one rice is easily enough for two.

Large upstairs party function at £25 per head for a mouthful of food you didn’t know what you were eating. they only bought up a couple of dishes that you couldn't choose. Also with a 2 hour wait so they could cash in on drinks (all priced at £5 each?!) popadoms an extra charge! Will not be returning and will be discouraging anyone who thinks of visiting.

Booked a takeaway for 630. It wasn’t ready so we had to hang around for 25 mins. When we got home we found that some of the dishes were missing. We are strict vegetarians and had ordered only vegetarian food but one of the dishes was chicken.

I dropped in here last week with a friend, entirely on spec and was truli impressed.we enjoyed a vegetable biryani and a prawn dish. (Can't remember name) which were both fresh and beautifully cooked.In a stylish, long thin room,the staff were charming and efficient. Especially good pickles with our opening poppadoms. A charming light touch to all dishes. Both flavourful and digestible. Great!

I waited two and a half hours to get a burnt plain nan instead of garlic one a tin of Fanta instead if a bottle and wrong flavor ice cream the Curry was in impressive and luke warm. I called to advice and the man who answered started to tell me they never charged me for a bottle etc what a poor show!!

Waited two hours and then just cancelled. Guy at the other end of the phone didn’t really want to help or have any information where our food was. Couldn’t even be bothered to ring the driver to see what was going on

Warm welcome when we arrived large menu nice to try different things. Service excellent food piping hot and very tasty. Staff attentive and helpful. Loos clean prices very good . Can't wait to go back 😍😍

We have been going here regularly on a Sunday lunchtime, and always had really good value for money food and friendly, courtious service, so was very surprised to see bad reviews on here. Yesterday evening we went with two friends to see if the problem was when the restaurant got busy. The restaurant was really busy - and the staff were coping admirably - polite, apologising for any delay - which were only at a level you would expect on a busy Saturday evening - and the food was amazing! Still our favourite Indian restaurant.

The classic curry house experience - the food was very well prepared (none of the usual dry chicken in a sauce), the popadoms and dips were very plentiful, the menu had no surprises - just everything you’d expect, the service was pointedly courteous in a way that is very rare these days and they seem to have gone for doing the traditional curry experience - right down to the After Eights with the bill. The only things missing were the ‘half-rice-half-chips’ option and the flock wallpaper. Reasonable pricing and totally recommend!

Impulse stop pre theatre. Early bird special £9.95. Poppadums, main, rice, tea/coffee.

One of the best Indian meals I have eaten. Waiters were very helpful and attentive. Service a little slow but would definitely go again.

We went to get take away with twin boys was ready in 20 minutes we drove back to where we was staying for the August bank holiday and I have to say best lamb madras I have ever had and very reasonable prices

Turned up and one waiter was drunk, threw his pen at my friend (by accident) and couldn’t walk in a straight line and was drinking OBVIOUSLY behind the bar. Kept turning the music up and asking us how we were. He asked how our food was before we’d gotten it ‍♀️. Then my friends prawn korma had RAW prawns in it. This was sent back and we didn’t get any discount to our food. When we queried about a discount the manager was very argumentative and abrasive. He came over immediately defensive. We just yeeted outta there. After paying. With no tips. One of the waiters was lovely.

Missed items when it was delivered phoned them up and they said they would bring the items straight away an hour later still nothing phoned them up again and they said they had nothing come through to the kitchen they will send them out now , received them within 10mins the food wasn’t hot , they charged more money by phoning up to order than online was not happy !!

Had a great take away this evening. Food was delivered prompt and hot. Good friendly service, would highly recommend.

Went to Ocean Spice restaurant on the off chance. Chose the Banquet menus because on the menu it was listed at &14:99. Looked good value. We had popadoms with chutneys, Onion Bargies and Chicken Tikka. Followed by Lamb Pasanda and Chicken Tikka Masala with Pilau rice, nan bread and Saga Loo. Could have had sweet but was stuffed. When bill came the banquet meal was £9:95 because we were early in the evening. Fabulous meal. Please try it. Highly recommended.

I'm only half way in and had to review! This is the place I have been searching for for the authentic taste and flavours. I'm so happy I found this place! I will never go anywhere else! Well done guys! Amazing amazing amazing!

As per previous reviews that comment on the slow service and the poor attitude from some of the staff, well, unfortunately, this is what I experienced last weekend. In total, I spent 2.5 hours in the restaurant and I only ordered a starter and a main. Despite several reminders asking the waiter where my food is, it took a decade to come. It seemed like they were prioritizing home deliveries rather than serving customers at tables. I waited an hour for my starter to come which is ridiculous. Overall, I would not recommend this place to eat, maybe Gordan Ramsey could help them.

We visited this place on Sunday night. Service was extremely slow, so slow in fact that we had to ask for our mains to take away as it was getting so late, however they proceeded to plate up the table only for us to have to state that we needed to leave again! We did eventually get two bags virtually thrown on the table and told to sort it ourselves into individual meals, at which point we left, without the food.Staff at managerial level were very rude, one of the waiter was laughing at the ridiculous situation, probably out of embarrassment and one poor lady apologised several times and stated she felt embarrassed about the service we were getting. I think staff are bullied here.

Made a reservation at the restaurant, for 10 guests to dine, on Sunday evening and paid a deposit. When arriving at the restaurant there were 6 other people dinning. We each ordered a 4 course meal from their Sunday specials menu. 70 minutes passed until we received our starter. A further 30 minutes passed and we had not received our main course. I approached the waiter and politely asked for our meals to be boxed up to take away as it was getting ridiculously late. The waiter was rude and started to lay the table with plates and persistently said that the meals will arrive shortly. A further 10 minutes passed and I requested again for our meals to be boxed up. The waiter was rude and unapologetic, whilst the other staff in the restaurant appeared to not care.

Took the professor here on Saturday as had not been in a while due to the lack lustre service we received last time but the food is generally good ,were got a table and were given to full menus and asked for the lunch time menu which we duly got,we ordered our drinks and called the waiter over to take our order, as we started to give him our order,a gentleman who we now no was the manager stormed over and started to shout at the waiter "Why had we got to menus on the table and what was going on, then another waiter came over and joined in the argument all over the professors head, I started to get up to leave, the professor was trying to explain that we may have wanted extra items from the other menu and was yelled at that it would cost extra which we knew, by now he was shouting at the professor and the other waiters. I was now up and leaving with the the manager still shouting at us to go somewhere else. There were only a couple of other customers in there so we know why now. Never got the drinks as the professor had an idea that the waiter may have known what was coming. If the manager is the sole owner he can do what he wants but if he has partners they have a problem, I feltvery sorry for our first young waiter as he looked horrified . Cannot say anything about the food as never had any.

Terrible... its not even that good!!

Despite ordering the early evening special the service was second to none. Curry’s tailored to our specific taste and were delicious. Thank you I would highly recommend this restaurant

The chicken tikka starter was very nice, cooked perfectly and still soft.

I haven't been here since my last review Nov 2018. What has happened it looks like this formerly wonderful restaurant has gone downhill. For goodness sake, get yourselves together men and make this place great again, or CLOSE.

First of all, I'd like to say that the food was excellent and 3 out 5 of the members of staff were very polite, and excellent at their jobs. However, all of this was overshadowed by the other 2 members of staff who were clearly higher ranked than the others (management).

Good food despite EXTREMELY slow service. Took over three hours from start to finish with several reminders. The tipping point for us was abusive staff. The manager was openly abusive, physically pushing a younger colleague who looked very very uncomfortable and terrified. We spoke to this member of staff and told him to leave and said that we absolutely do not condone seeing this kind of treatment for staff who are trying their hardest under awful circumstances.

Only went here as convenient for the White Rock, but two days later, & my husband is still ill. Dreadful, clueless staff, that have no idea how to serve. Very scruffy interior, with the loo that opens right into the restaurant! Their delivery men smoking on the bench, right by the window, so they are your view! Will never return.

Four of us went for a banquet night tonight. Despite the food being delicious, we were in the restaurant for over 3 and a half hours due to the appalling service.

Last night I ordered a byriani and a Paneer. The paneer was not real paneer and the dish was sweet like a candy... after eating it, it gave me a bad stomach...never again

Zum Glück hatten wir so viel Hunger und Lust auf indisches Essen, dass wir trotz der letzten beiden, eher schlechten Beurteilungen dieses indische Lokal aufgesucht haben. Zuerst waren wir von der modernen und eher untypischen Einrichtung überrascht, doch, wie schon erwähnt, wir hatten Hunger. Und dann kam das dämpfende Essen und was wir da bekamen war köstlich bis aufs i-Tupfchen. Nicht zu scharf aber absolut rund gewürzt. Auch das vegetarische Käsegericht meiner Kollegin war raffiniert gemacht. Das Personal war sehr freundlich, vor allem als sie mitbekamen, dass wir Deutsche sind, denn der Ober hat in Norddeutschland selbst Verwandtschaft. Die zentrale Lage am Rande der Altstadt und gleich am Meer macht dieses Restaurant einen guten Ausgangspunkt für weiteres Erforschen des Nachtlebens in Hasting.

The first time I went to this restaurant on an evening there was no issue, the food was lovely and the friend that had recommended the restaurant to us and is a regular was with us. The bill seemed fair and we had a long conversation about hiring the function room above. Potential future custom obviously helped us get the actual bill with no added unseen costs! This lunchtime we decided to take our children as a treat. We asked about the set menu and believed that is what we were getting - similar to the other reviewers another £25 was added to our bill as apparently we had starters that had a surcharge.....I had actually checked verbally that they were part of the set menu but they still added this on- drinks were not listed separately...but must have been fairly expensive. We already felt put off by the meal as the crockery was worn and three of our plates were dirty and sent back - my sons plate changed twice....and actually still not particularly clean the third plate given. Everything felt unclean and a bit worn. We questioned the bill and he told us there was a surcharge that the owner had not told him about - absolute rubbish this is obviously standard practice if they think they can get away with it, I had been surprised that it was so empty on a Sunday buffet choice day... two other sets of customers only who left before we did so we were the only ones in the restaurant when we got the bill. Feel ripped off and annoyed when we rarely go out as a family for a meal - it took the shine off. I will never go back and will make sure I tell everyone I know to avoid this restaurant.

This is without a doubt the worst restaurant food I have ever eaten and the service was shocking too. We arrived at 7.30 and ordered our food by 7.45 which was only served after 9.15 and it was utterly unidentifiable. The portions of vegetables were very small too. Half of our party of 10 suffered shocking food poisoning the next morning. It would seem that the restaurant is more interested in selling drinks than food as the staff were only attentive in this regard. I would never eat here again.

I was one of 7 lady friends dining in this restaurant for joint birthdays. The food was nice and we all enjoyed each others company. We ate, exchanged gifts and enjoyed our evening until we received our bill. We always only pay individually instead of splitting the bill in every restaurant we have been to over the years, never once have we had an issue! The manager was shouting at us, literally had his face in front of my friends face making her lean back. He was trying to charge for starter that we didn't have and apparently 1 pint of lemonade was £5.50, they said we had 5 pints but only brought 3 pints. Every time he was trying to add the bill he was getting a different total. It was an absolute nightmare and resulted in us chipping in to paying it because he was becoming very intimidating! I would avoid this restaurant like the plague. Such a shame the chief must be gutted turning out fabulous food only for the manager to treat customers like this!

My friends and I decided to go here for our joint birthdays, although the food was alright and we had had a very lovely evening, on receiving the bill the manager thought having a group of ladies in all drinking he would try and stitch us up by adding an extra £24 to it, but he hadn’t anticipated that we would all like a break down on what we had so he was caught out. When questioned he got very aggressive was extremely rude and kept shouting at us. If anyone is looking for a cheap curry and a friendly atmosphere don’t go here.

We ate here as a family group even though we read the negative reviews about the service....we assumed it couldn't be that bad. However, it is as described. From what we can assertain the owner doesn't like customer service and his staff follow his lead. The rudeness takes some getting used to, but the main reason for the 1 star review happened inside 2 minutes of our arrival. There were 6 of us on a table and their tables don't seat 6 people with the dishes/drinks/sides. The restaurant was empty and closing in 1 hour so we asked if the small empty table next to us could be moved next to our table so we could fit around comfortably....but this was apparently an outrageous idea as we were 6 covers and not 10 so we must eat in our allocated area. Despite trying to explain it made no sense, we remained at our allocated table and plates had to be put on the floor as we worked our way through the mains. The food was nice but it doesn't matter if you feel uncomfortable throughout the meal. Hopefully they realise this will hit their pocket over time, but I wouldn't be so sure...the guy seems quite hard headed.

Went here on a Friday night with friends and their two kids. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive particularly to the kids which really made them feel special. The food was exceptional, best we’ve tasted for a long time. Would definitely, definitely go back.

Great value real food full of flavour best Indian in Hastings staff so happy and helpful I must try for anyone give it a try

My partner and I have used this restaurant a lot.

We visited Ocean Spice on Saturday 30th March for a birthday meal. We had booked and turned up on time, we were shown to an upstairs table which wasn’t made up and ready. It took over 15 mins to be asked If we would like a drink or to get any menus , the staff seemed new and awkward with no service experience and not very friendly , we had starters which were ok , but the man serving had obviously had a bad day and seemed fed up that we were there, the restaurant was busy so you can accept some delay but some decent friendly service goes a long way.

Ordered our food for delivery 2 hours before it finally arrived all was stone cold I put it all in the oven to reheat , my husband phoned to complain. And was told will pick it up and put it in the microwave! I took the phone and refused because it was already in the oven (and why would I let them take food away after waiting 2 hours) was told I was a liar if I was refusing ! And that if I said this on trip advisor he would just call me a liar !!!I have never been spoken to my ANY RESTAURANT Staff like this , we will never spend one penny in your restaurant or on take away again

I love fish and this has 5 or more tandoori and fish curry dishes, I love their Paneer - there are 3 types on menu and delivery is always fast , the online ordering even shows you how long to expect when you order and its never any longer . the restaurant is very nice to eat in also, clean, modern with video screens showing Indian pop videos - funky

We have eaten at the restaurant many times but usually during the week when fairly quiet and have always raved about the food and service. We booked a table for four on a Friday evening as we wished to share this gem with our friends . It was extremely busy, service was slow which didn't worry us to be honest. However, a waiter came by tutted and snatched the crockery from our first course muttering "why haven't they cleared the table". Just before dessert a waiter was taking away the plates and a waitress was trying to help him. He was very disparaging towards her and called her a name. One of our party challenged the behaviour as it was rude, offensive and inappropriate language. Was the best curry house in town but won't be darkening it's doors again.

As others have said the food is superb, the staff are friendly and attentive. However the owner really does need to change his attitude.

A dozen of us went for a birthday celebration. When the table was booked, a £50 deposit was insisted upon. Arrived on the night and ordered food, and waited, and waited, and waited, in the meantime we watched several other parties arrive, order food, and get served. After several complaints, our food finally arrived after a wait of 2 hours 45 mins. Feeling hungry by this time, we tucked in, only to find that several of the dishes were almost cold and had to be sent back! Exasperated by the end of the evening, we requested the bill, and duly paid in cash, after first subtracting the £50 deposit from the total amount of money we had set aside. The manager then insisted that we were nearly £50 short..! It took the efforts of an articulate and persuasive member of our party to convince the manager that he was in error; several of us having already departed in disgust..!

Very dissapointing I'm afraid. Arrived and 19.15 for 19.30 reservation left while some in party still eating the icecream at 22.30. Service very slow, the food when it arrived was cold and had to be sent back to the micro wave. The manager tried to tell us they served us slowly so we could enjoy the evening, what I think really happened that they were understaffed and couldn't cope. There was a constant stream of customers through the evening who were given priority and served. The manager believed that bull baffled brains but the only brain he baffled was his own. Where do I find them? Basil Fawlty college is obviously thriving. Also the downstairs toilet was awash all evening.

What a shame. The food at Ocean Spice was actually lovely! I have no criticism of the meal at all. The problem my party had was with the owner. Upon booking my friend advised the restaurant that we would be using tastecards, which we were told was OK. Again, when we arrived at the restaurant we were told by two different waiters (who were both very polite) that all three of our cards could be used for multiple transactions for discount. When it came to the end of the meal the owner came to our table and told us we were not allowed to use the cards. When we explained what the other staff had told us he agreed he would have to honour it but he would take it out of their wages!? We were made to feel like criminals for using a discount card. To top it off when we were paying he swiped the card machine out of our waiters hands to use on another table. I wouldn’t grant this restaurant my custom again and seriously hope the wages of nice and kind staff are docked because management have not trained them in their policies and procedures.

We enjoyed our food its the best in Hasting and timing was great and service with a smile and we will be calling again

Visited for the first time for sons birthday meal. Wanted to try as been a lot of media coverage since winning an award lately (we usually go to bay spice along the road !)

After visiting this restaurant many times and also having takeaway the food has always been a good standard. Tonight however was absolutely terrible!

We had the leg of lamb on the Christmas day menu. Fantastic we took a doggy bag on the day and immediately put in the freezer. We had that last night still very good a nice reminder of Christmas day. They were very busy but had enough staff to look after all customers easily. We were very impressed also with the price.

We tend to treat ourselves to a take out once in a while and have found Ocean Spice to be some of the best Indian food we have tried locally. I've always been intrigued by the Thali on the menu so decided to order that tonight. The staff were happy to change this to suit my preference (chicken bhuna instead of lamb) and I couldn't believe how much food we received. The Thali itself could easily feed 2/3 people and tasted amazing! We keep meaning to find a babysitter to come and try the restaurant and after tonight's meal, I feel like we will visit as soon as we can. Thank you

Visited the restaurant with my wife and my son. Fantastic food great service by the staff, I liked that they did not hover around the table like other Indian restaurants.

The food is excellent, especially if you want to stray from the "old familiars". Some truly inspiring dishes, none of the "one sauce fits all" nonsense. In my opinion the best Indian restaurant in Hastings, it can compete with some really nice restaurants in London (I used to live near Southhall).

So we ordered a meal for two but swapped one of the rices to mushroom rice, one of the curry’s to lamb rogen and a niramish for onion bahjis also got an extra 3 mint sauces, 8 popadoms and a chicken korma total come to £51.00 even though the set meal cost £27.95! Recieved an extra rice which we didn’t order and even if we did an extra rice cost £3.55. When we asked how much and why it cost so much he asked what our budget was was explained we always order from mon’s masala and it’s only £20.00 for a family meal for two and he told us their quality of the food was better and that mon’s was basically cheap crap the food arrived and it was absolute pants. Would not recommend it one bit. It was freezing cold, tasteless, onion bahji looked like sank they shuved in the microwave and gave us chicken on a bone for chicken starter. Even the popadoms taste like they were fried in old oil. In the pictures below show it only comes to £40.70 even if I wanted the extra rice, add on a fiver for 8 popadoms proper rip of for jank food. If you want somewhere yourll get your moneys worth check mon’s masala out!

Looked up TripAdvisor for Asian restaurants. Ocean Spice came up as nearest and best.

We booked a table for four for lunch today. We were given an a la carte menu and a lunch menu.

The food here is exceptional. We were recommended this restaurant by a couple of locals and I have to say we were not dissapointed. It's an extensive menu so it is a bit daunting, however, the staff are very good with advice. Our food was absolutely amazing. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. We live I London and would seriously consider travelling down just to eat here

Visited today 13 Nov for lunch with my husband. Wonderful welcome by staff. This was our first visit and we would highly recommend this restaurant. Food was lovely. Not rushed. Very attentive staff.

Very good food and reasonably priced, chicken dhansak was perfectly spiced with a thick sticky sauce that clung to my naan bread, Bombay potatoes were cooked how we like them (firm and spicy), my daughter's chicken tikka masala was full of meat and very creamy.

Well having ordered a takeaway which arrived with the wrong meal and several things ordered that were not ther we phoned and were told if you want what you ask for that’s extra now as we have delived

We came down from Bradford to visit family and ordered from here tonight, never again, food was stone cold, it took an hour and 45mins to arrive and when it did driver started shouting and screaming at us in street with no provocation, the second delivery lady said she had had to call police on him on several occasions, the food was disgusting we haven't as yet received any appology, this restraunt should be ashamed of themselves, will never use them again and anyone with any sense will avoid them too

Five of us had a truly great evening out, wonderful food & great variety, attentive but not obtrusive service. Very friendly staff & very clean premises.

It was my partners birthday and she fancied an Indian meal so we found Ocean Spice and thought we would give it a go. We were not disappointed the food was good the staff were attentive and I had a happy birthday girl. We would definitely recommend and will visit again.

Following Ocean Spice's recent crowning as Best Curry House in East Sussex, we thought we'd try it. The decor is a little tired and the frontage is uninspiring but the food is amazing. The naan was hot and fluffy and my lamb sag was the best I've ever eaten. Everything we ordered was delicious - not swimming in grease and not full of artificial colourings. It all tasted freshly cooked with first class ingredients. They were doing a roaring trade in takeaways. We will definitely be back and, if we can't get there, we too will order a takeaway.

Very impressive. Visited here on business as I was staying in a B&B; up the road. I am vegan and wanted to find somewhere suitable. This restaurant had food allergens labelled and the dishes were very tasty. Service impeccable and complimentary drink and after-eight at the end! Highly recommended.

I have had curry’s from different places and ocean spice is one I would go to all the time staff are friendly and I was looked after well while waiting 10 out of 10 for food and service

The best Indian takeaway and eat in resturant in Hastings, highly recommend to anyone any ages will love. If you want perfection Indian food go here it is the best meal that I have ever had, literally orgasmic

Popped in here for lunch and I must say this was one of the best meals we have had in two weeks of staying in nearby Eastbourne. The Hare Murchi Garlic was amazing tasty and just what I was craving over the last two weeks. The garlic rice perfect as was the garlic Nan - soft and fluffy. If I was here again I would come every day but alas I’m off home soon. Would thoroughly recommend

Had an amazing meal with attentive staff.. food absolutely delicious and great service more than made up for a previous visit that wasn't quite as I had hoped. They were so helpful and I'm so pleased that I decided to return. It's the best curry in town.

Went to Ocean Spice with a big party on a Saturday night, always bit of a test for a restaurant, and I have to say it came through with flying colours. The restaurant was packed, and as expected food was a little slow to arrive, but the young friendly waiters made sure we were well supplied with drinks and nibbles so it didn't matter a bit. When it came the food was fresh-tasting and well cooked, served sizzling hot. All the guys here were very helpful, including organising taxis for us at the end of the evening. Highly recommended.

Wow great food and well knowledge of the menu from waiters. We went last night it was amazing,the waiter told us it was his second shift but he must have researched the menu because I got what I asked for to a tee.

I found this Indian restaurant quite by chance, and stopped for lunch - and I'm glad that I did. I chose from the very good value set menu, which offers a good choice of starters, main and side dishes. The food is well-spiced, with the flavours of different dishes clearly distinguished, and all well-presented. Service was friendly and efficient.
