Mon's Massala in Hastings

Found this little gem on Google ordered on line .asked for a extra hot chicken fhal and that is exactly what I got sooo hot. and the chicken biryani was perfectly spiced and very good will be back

Got a takeaway from here last night and I was really impressed. I am a bit fussy when it comes to take outs but my friend convinced me to give it a go and I am super pleased I did. Food was really delicious and for the quality really great value. Definitely recommend

I have lived in Hastings 44 years and have never tried this place, having finally tried their food, I feel like I’ve missed out for years. The best curry I’ve eaten in town. I’ve spent years trying all the curry houses, and they’ve all been pretty average. This was so far above the others it’s not true. The taste was sublime. You could taste all the flavours they put in. Cooked with love and care. Came piping hot too. Delivery driver also found my house, many struggle to do so. And he’s was really polite. 10/10. I recommend to anyone this restaurant. I will be returning.

Went Wednesday night with two friends and it was excellent. Don't be put off by it's unassuming appearance, the place was spotless, with the kitchen in full view. As for the food, it was flavourful and well spiced with generous portions from the extensive menu. The owner/chef is very friendly with attentive service, and as a bonus you can bring your own wine and there is no corkage fee. Highly recommended and will definitely return.

Birthday take away: Yet again, a gorgeous meal! The lamb passanda was full of flavour with no grisly bits! The bhajis were tasty and not greasy at all and the palank panir masala was full of flavour. Mushroom pakoras were also amazing and peshwari naan was delicious as always. Arrived nice and hot and on time. And thank you for the gulab jamun! You get a lot for your money. Best Indian Takeaway in town by far.

Our first, and certainly not our last, takeaway from here. The food was delayed but we got a phone call to apologise and it arrived pretty soon after piping hot and super tasty. Probably the best Indian takeaway we have had in a long time.

Freshly cooked and the best Indian takeaway in town. A restaurant/takeaway with a kitchen you can see into is extremely rare and for me is a big positive, they have nothing to hide and that is clear with the quality of the food.

This is a great little find. A family run restaurant serving good food at reasonable prices. If you're eating in bring your own booze. I'll be back with a few friends next time. I'd definitely recommend this place for the friendly, personal service and delicious food.

We had a delightful meal and friendly service from Mr. and Mrs. Mon. I had the vegetable pathia, mushroom rice, and garlic naan. Marvelous depth of flavor and generous portions. 10/10 recommend.

Decent. Price is right. Food is tasty. Chicken could be a bit higher quality, but for the price, I can't complain. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more, if the chicken was a bit more tender.

First time using this place food was lovely and arrived hot we will be using them again not bad prices either.

Been searching for a new Indian take away place after being so disappointed with other places recently (cold food, super greasy bhajis, and generally overpriced food) thank goodness I found this place! OK I waited longer than expected but it is Saturday night! It arrived delivered by a very friendly driver and the food was nice and hot and DELICIOUS. Lots of flavour and not greasy. My new favourite Indian in Hastings! oh and very reasonably priced too ❤

Ordered delivery in advance for NYE. Thought I'd try somewhere new as menu looked interesting and I had a vegetarian guest. Delivery only 20 mins late. Good for NY. Portions were mean. Veg curry unbelievably bad. A few clearly frozen veg in a runny tasteless sauce. Carrot, green beans and a few peas. That was it. Nothing else. Tarka dal passable but miniscule. Sag paneer - hardly any paneer and again a bit of frozen spinach in loads of slop. Stuffed peppers nothing like Shimla Mirch. Just a few frozen runner beans in a raw uncooked pepper. Just the memory of that travesty alone is going to reduce my already generous 2 starts to 1. Fruit rice which should include pineapple, sultanas, spices etc had a few soggy slices of uncooked banana and lychees in plain rice and again was meagre. Chicken Tikka was OK but again tiny. 4 cubes of chicken only and a mountain of half cooked soggy onion. Nan bread soggy and undercooked. It was all bad. No excuses re NYE. They didn't charge any less for this muck remember. My guest ordered a pizza for us. Embarrassing.

Bit of a bittersweet experience really. Placed an order to arrive at 19:40 (ordered about 18:30). Eventually arrived at 20:20. I genuinely cannot fault the food. It was hot, very tasty and plenty of it. The service however was a bit to be desired. I phoned up about 19:45 as tracking hadn't updated and the lady said it would be another 10/15 minutes. We waited until 20:05 and they said it was on its way. It's such a shame. Realisticly id order again but if the service was bad, I'd probably give up

We were given a Deliveroo voucher for Christmas and decided to use it this evening. We don't often have Indian as my youngest doesn't like it so we ordered her chicken and chips from the extensive menu. My chicken tikka pasanda was stunning as was the pilau rice and the Bombay potato (turns out my youngest liked all three of these dishes too!) My husband found his lamb byriani a little to hot for his taste but he also loved the pasanda! My eldest had a chicken balti, which she really enjoyed. Will definitely order again and hubby is keen to try the restaurant as an eat in too.

Fantastic food I would go as far to say best in the town open kitchen where you can see all the cooking happening all cooked fresh as you order lovely owners too

Never been to Hastings before, when looking at places to eat Mons had such good ratings! We saw reviews of the boss letting children in the kitchen to help cook and that confirmed how lovely they were. When the food arrived we were absolutley over the moon! Everything was so nice, authentic and tasted amazing! Far better than the curry we get in London. We will definitley be ordering again when we next visit!

Delicious food with very nice and funny staff. They asked if I wanted to be there and see how the food was made. I was there with my family, (one of them has celiak desease), and they were really careful and showed us in the ingredients list just so we could be sure there was no gluten, which there were none. The waiting time was a little long, but its a family business with not a lot of people, so it was expected. Recommend the nan breads!! 5/5.

I ordered the Chicken Jalfrezi, Pillau Rice, Green Salad with complimentary onion salad and Spiced Poppadoms- The meal was delivered fresh and hot and was absolutely delicious, which I thoroughly enjoyed- I will most definitely order again, and if any one is considering ordering a wonderful curry etc, then Mon's Massala is the one - super, super food.

Fantastic meal and lovely service

***Hidden Gem of Hastings*** Had been to Mon Massala twice following a 2 year jaunt around most of Hastings and St Leonard’s and concluding that Mon’s is easily the best Indian in the area. Decided to take the family there whilst the father-in-law was visiting and once again absolutely amazing food and the best service from the very friendly staff and owner. They even took my two daughters in to the kitchen and they helped make their own egg fried rice. Every time I’ve been, it seems that the restaurant has been updated, and is clean, fresh with nice decor, new cutlery, and clean new menus. Can’t wait to go back again and try more of this amazing menu.

Was visiting Hastings today and it took me so long to find a place to eat out, when suddenly this shone out to me. I enjoyed my meal (Jalfrezi curry with lamb and rice) and the service was excellent

Very lovely meal. Delivered promptly. Highlights were the very fruit filled and super meaty lamb Kashmir and the lovely soft but nice burnt naans. Would recommend.

Had a takeaway for the first time here yesterday on the spur of the moment as we saw a good looking meal for two offer on the board in their window when walking past. Very friendly service, it seemed to be a small family run outfit. Nice food, would certainly visit again.

Our first take away from here, ordered by deliveroo in lock down. We have lived here for 3 years now, and without doubt it’s the best Indian takeaway we have had. Aromatic, no bright additive colouring, fantastic flavour and great value. We have tried 6 others before we stumbled on Mons Massala and it’s beats them hands down-we will definitely be reordering. As a key worker during lockdown finding fantastic food to eat mid shift has been an absolute pleasure. I was trying to find the least worst place for food instead I found the absolute best, Mon cooks your food to order, he’ll modify your order to suit your tastes, given a little notice he’ll make a custom curry just for you. I can’t wait until I can sit in mid shift and enjoy truly fantastic food sitting comfortably instead of being in my van.

We’ve used Mons Masala many times in the past however tonight will most probably be the last. We ordered on a Friday night and expect to have to wait about an hour for a delivery, this evening we had to wait 2 hours for our delivery. When I ordered online it gave an estimated delivery of 45 minutes, I received an email saying that it would be delayed by 15 minutes, (quite acceptable for a Friday nightingale my opinion) After 90 minutes I called to see where the order was and was “ fobbed off” with an excuse of they were very busy and that a car had broken down, however the driver was just going out and that he had one delivery to do and then he’d be coming straight to us.......in total I’d say 15 to 20 minutes from the restaurant and onto our address. Half an hour later I called again to be told the driver would be there shortly, 10 minutes later he knocked on the door. The food was not it’s usual tasty standard that I’ve been used to from Mons Masala, the curries were very watery and bland. It really was a disappointment from start to finish. As I said we’ve used these many times before but I think a 2 hour wait and bland, watery food was a bit much to go back.

We ordered last night some food and we asked for dairy free food (because of allergies), which eventually created all sort of problems. He said that he can do it and it will be around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Only that we had to wait 2 hours!!! And I called him like 2 times. The only thing is that I paid less (from like £26 to £20), but I think I paid too much for the quality of the food. It was so tasteless and horrible. Then he was rude on the phone saying that my order takes more to be cooked and that he was busy. And how is this my problem?? I think that if it is too much for them to deal with allergies, they should just say it, or at least have the decency to say that it will take longer. NOT TO WAIT 2 HOURS FOR A VERY BAD FOOD! Very dissapointed!!! Don`t get fooled and order from them :)

Best Indian in Hastings, I have been living here for one year and have failed to find a decent Indian takeaway until tonight. Thanks so much for the coriander on my curry, I have asked every Indian takeaway to put coriander on my curry and they never do. My tikka jalfrazi was absolutely delicious and the coriander on top perfect it. We have are so glad we have tried you, we will now be your regular customers.

Went here with friends on a Friday night. Usually we go to your traditional restaurant that probably does takeaway: waiters in waistcoats and piped "Indian" music. Mon's Massala is a takeaway that has been adapted to have a few tables in: it probably seats 16-20 people. As one of our party called it, a cafe style Indian. The menu was extensive and not expensive, the staff were friendly and the food quality good. The popadoms tasted clean and fresh. None of the food we ordered had grease sitting on the top and the portions were a good size. There is no alcohol licence, so it's BYO, which cut right down on the bill, £17 for two courses including a rice and a side each. A great "no frills" meal, they should really try and get a licence though and some hot plates for the food on the table wouldn't go amiss. All in all a good place to eat.

Ordered a takeaway through Just Eat. The food was 20 mins late BUT the food was very good. I do recommend the food but may be they need another delivery driver.

Nice curry. Full of flavour and seemed to be quality ingredients. Service was very friendly when I picked it up and felt like a nice family run business.

I am very angry with the service. I will never order from Mon's Massala again. I ordered from here expecting the efficient and top quality service I am used to, but I'm disappointed to say that I have had arguably the most offensive and pitiful service. After the shock of finding two hairs in my rice and cold potatoes, I called the restaurant, only to be met with arrogance. I believe it was the manager who, when I complained very specifically about the problems with my food, continued to gloat that he had served the 'best food for years' and was too conceited to offer a refund or a fresh delivery. Did I mention that I waited an hour for my package of disappointment? Naturally, I advise you to avoid this place. All he cared to offer was a 'free curry' with our next delivery. Perhaps a decline in sales will humble them. Kind regards, A VERY angry customer.

Brilliant food, on time, fantastic value, definitely using again.

This is more like an Indian takeaway with some tables squeezed in. The facilities are fairly basic, compact & bijou. There is also no licensed bar so soft drinks only. However the breadth of dishes on the menu was excellent. The food tasted good and it was great value for money.

Ordered food which was too good. Definitely will suggest to give it a try and can assure you won't be unsatisfied and was on time as well. Only the coke ordered was cold and not chilled but overall 4.5/5
