I really wanted to like this place as it would our local Indian restaurant and I like the variety of veggie options, including potato, vegetable or paneer choices available on a wide variety of dishes. Perhaps we visited them on an off day, but the service was so poor that for probably the first time ever in a restaurant we did not tip. We arrived 2 and a half hours before closing but the restaurant was empty with no music or atmosphere. We asked if we could have a table for two and were met with a grunt and the pulling back of a chair. Some music was turned on which thankfully made it seem less empty and quiet. We were given the menu but almost straight away asking if we were ready to order. We weren't offered a poppadom to start and when we asked for this it seemed to be an inconvenience. The glasses the Cobra came out in were poorly washed. Then, as we were eating the poppadoms, the waiter kept peering over the table and literally the very second one person finished he cleared their plate despite the other still eating. This same pattern was repeated for the mains. The last one of us to finish our main was left eating whilst he was reaching over and completely clearing the table around. We just got the impression we were unwanted there and an inconvenience. To make it particularly clear that we were unwelcome the waiter turned the music off whilst we were in the final stages of our meal. It would have been partially redeemed had the food been good, but sadly both dishes were bland, flavourless and lacked spices. We gave them a chance despite being empty and we can now see why no one else had chosen them on a weekend evening. Disappointing.

We were a table of ten friends in an almost empty restaurant (only two other tables with couples) so were surprised when the food took so long to arrive. We waited over an hour for our mains and sides and while that was not ideal it could have been forgiven if the food itself was amazing. Unfortunately the food was very bland and a huge let down which really didn’t warrant the wait. The naan breads were all dry and crunchy and the curry just not on par with others we have experienced in the local area. The poppadom sauces not great. The service was OK. We had to ask for our table to be cleared of cobra bottles as there were just so many empties! We got the impression the restaurant were not used to a group of more than 4 people. There are quite a few curry houses in Hastings and unfortunately we will not returning to this one again.

Exploring on foot to find somewhere to obtain an evening meal, we walked past this place which from the outside did not look particularly impressive. Not finding anywhere any further down Queens Road we headed back, and decided to chance it.Externally the restaurant does not look all that much, but inside it is clean, comfortable and better maintained than many supposedly up-market restaurants. Even the toilets were spotless. When we arrived the staff (the manager and the chef, I suspect) were pulling out tables and vacuuming and hastily stopped, closed the door and turned on the heating. In terms of the food served, we did not order much - the standard poppadoms while we selected our meal, honey vegetables, chicken dhansak, mushroom bhaji and pilau rice, and a naan - entirely sufficient for a meal for two. The food was not slow in arriving, and was delicious. The worst criticism I could level is that the pilau rice was rather mundane, being little more than coloured rice lacking any spices or flavour other than the rice itself, but different chefs have different notions as to what a pilau rice is.Service throughout was friendly and relaxed, and the experience as a whole exceeded my expectations. (Don't you just love when that happens?) A welcome discovery.

Having ordered a curry for me and my partner it took over an hour to arrive (which is completely ok as it's a busy time of year)But on arrival the food was stone cold and the curry had absolutely no taste what so ever the chips were McCain oven chips which again fine but were ice cold. The curry itself was bland no flavour and was pumped full of water so every thing sat swimming in cold water.I dont normally leave bad reviews bug this dinner was so bad I couldn't not say any thing this time. It's such a shame as we had been recommended here to.

We do occasionally get invited out by friends to other Indians in Hastings and bexhill but none have come up to the the same standard . Can't comment about the eat in service as haven't done that for over 10years but takeaway service is always good on time / hot. Good value and most importantly very good food . We have tried pretty much everything over the years on menu bar the seafood based dishes as neither of us keen on it generally .

This was an extremely disappointing evening. The service was slow, the food mediocre, the waiters unpleasant. We waited one hour between our first course and second, they kept trying to encourage us to buy more drinks whilst waiting so long..A big mistake to give this restaurant our business, considering the superb standards of other Indian restaurants in Hastings. By the time we received our bill, which was ridiculously expensive, we were too fed up with this awful place to even dispute it.

Well...sort of following on from the review before this one. We've been eating here for some time...and tonight we arrived at 7.45pm. We were seated...a brash waiter got our drinks...and then we waited for 20 mins before another waiter came and ......asked if we wanted more drinks....we asked if we could order.....so...10 mins later we did....and waited...and waited....in the end....we'd been there over an hour and my patience had run thin....there were six other people in there so not busy at all....but I'd had enough. The other half went to pay the drinks bill while me and my son left for the car. £16 for two pints of Cobra,4 popadoms and two cokes...but no ordered food...and the other thing that's really annoying...the phone...which is in the restaurant...is constantly ringing with take away orders and IT DRIVES YOU NUTS !!! Our last visit for definite.

we have been coming here for many years and always found it fantastic food and service. But the last couple of times the restaurant is really going downhill. The food took an incredibly long time to arrive, yet we were the only people there, they had to turn the heating on as they clearly don't heat the restaurant and can't have been expecting customers. The owner seemed to be doing everything, and we even wondered if he was cooking too! The quality of the food just isn't there anymore, missing those flavours, also a lot more oily than it used to be

I think this review will be harsh as we are lucky in Reading with the amount of good Indian restaurants that we have here. We had walked past a couple in Hastings and this one seemed to be the busiest so we went for this one. As we went in there was a musty sort of smell and the restaurant was very dated. The waiter was actually quite abrupt bordering on rude and when he brought our drinks over there was something in my partners vodka and orange which he just fished out with a spoon at the table, she was obviously reluctant to drink it. Like I said before I am going to be harsh because the food wasn't bad at all and was certainly good value for the price, the problem was that there was just not that real spicy taste that I expect in Indian food. Also it is probably the first time ever that there was no food left over so I think the portions were a little on the small side. All in all it was very average and if I return to Hastings I would be looking to eat elsewhere.

We came here after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. We got there at 7pm and there were half a dozen tables in use and the place filled nicely and had a good traffic of people collecting take away food. The service started off well, but I don't really think they had enough staff for the number of tables and the take away business. But the food was superb. Popadoms were dry, crisp and flavorsome, with nice pickles. The main course was beautifully tender lamb in a thick sauce and plenty of meat and the rice was also nice and dry and individual grains. Side dishes were great and the beer on tap was well priced.Apart from the slightly slow service we could not fault the experience and all plates were cleaned as we all enjoyed our meals so much.Great vegetarian choices too. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Found the restaurant through Trip Adviser, not disappointed at all.We took advantage of the Thursday special deal , one starter , one main , one rice or naan and one side dish all for less than a tenner each.It was great to be in an indian rest. where more time was spent on the food than modern /contemporary interior design .This place had all the right aromas as you walked in , was traditionally decorated and very homely. All too often these days we visit Indian restaurants where there is no aroma of spice , the food is bland and lacking real spice mixes, where the food looks great but is Anglicized so much it loses any authenticity. Not the case here, great food , sizzling and hot, well presented, great portions and an imaginative menu choice. The staff were delightful , helpful and courteous throughout. Our bill for a gut busting feast with drinks was less than fifty five pounds. All agreed it was one of the best Indian meals we had tasted and I agree. I have been cooking Indian cuisine myself for 30 years and rate this place in my top five ever.

It does not look grand and distinguished, but rather a bit older charme and cosy. Staff was very friendly and helped us choose our dishes (we had practically no clue what was on the menu), although the coconut rice recommended with the lamb Tikka did not go so very well together. 1-2 Pounds cheaper than a comparable, bigger place. Worth going on a Thursday evening for £9.95 5 course or lunchtime for just £6.95 for special set lunch - still with a good choice of dishes and starters. OK, the inside could do with a bit of refurbishment, but at the end of the day, is it the food that you eat and the service that you remember most? Having eaten in many Indian restaurants all over England I still have yet to find one that offers the range level of consistency time after time. The restaurant setting is basic, but the food continues to impress with it's subtle range of delicate spicing. I've yet to find another Indian restaurant where they serve a pilau rice with such s wonderful flavour. Prices are remarkably cheap too. Quite probably the stand out restaurant in the whole area regardless of cuisine.

A fabulous Tandoori restaurant, right on the seafront - great quality food, very polite and timely service, great value. As a visitor to Hastings and St Leonards (and the UK, these days), I was looking for Indian food and stumbled across this gem. Excellent quality Chicken Tilka (it’s clear their tandoor is good and hot - there’s a beautiful crust on the juicy chicken chunks!), excellent lamb curry, and I can only assume their cilantro is locally sourced, because it was super fresh and tasty. Our server was an extremely attentive and pleasant young chap who carefully trod the line between being there when you need him and being there too much with excellent judgment - top marks to that young man, who deserves great credit for his work. The only thing I can say which would improve this place is more customers - they don’t know what they’re missing!

Have been visiting this Indian for quite a few years every time I visit Hastings! We went again last night ( 12/9) and had the 4 course banquet for 19.99 a person. You get popppadams, a starter a main a side and rice or Nan. My absolute favourite dish is their chicken Modhu and I’m soo glad they still serve it, as I never see it anywhere else. It was absolutely sublime and my husband had the chicken tikka Marsala balti which he also loved . We had chicken tikka chat/prawn puri to start and both stunning dishes. Bombay aloo and bhajis and 2 naan breads finished the meal brilliantly: Can’t wait to return again! Please don’t ever take the modhu off the menu!! See you soon !!
