Four of the family sent for lunch. Great atmosphere and excellent service. Prices were good, overall. In fact everything was really good - except the pie I had wasn't the best, sadly. There was literally just one small lump of chicken in it, total. The pie tasted great but I must've just had a one-off that didn't have much in the way of meat. Tricky to say anything at the time of course. We've been many times before and were totally satisfied with everything, so we know that this probably won't happen again. Thankfully the meals for the others were up to the usual standard so the experience, overall, was fine.

Always find the staff here are rude and look at their customers as burdens. Arrived today at 3:15pm and was told the kitchens closed so they couldn’t heat up my scone. However online the cafe closes at 4pm - really wouldn’t take much effort to heat up a scone. I asked the lady who was serving me what time they closed, and two other girls chimed in around the kitchen closing at 3pm - which isn’t stated online. They then practically pushed out the last customers, by staring and muttering things to each other, and telling guests they’re now closed at 3:30pm. Last time I came the staff were rude and looked miserable so my experience wasn’t great, however I decided to give it another go, but after my experience today I guess that’s just how they run this cafe.

We have been past this place a few times but decided we would try it this time. The car park isn't overly big and at busy times parking can be an issue. The farm shop is good with good quality looking food on the pricey side for certain things but others seem good value. The is a small cafe here which can get busy and have to wait for a table. We had to wait for a little while to get a table which the person came to tell us the table was ready as we were walking around the shop. You order at the till. We had the breakfast which was ok, some of the items were better than others. Overall the food was ok, pricey. The drinks were ok. The cafe area seemed clean. The farm shop was good, nice looking food. The staff seemed friendly although one or two members of staff seemed to judge you and seemed to keep an eye on certain people.

As we pulled up we saw a sign saying doggie ice cream was for sale. Then while parking the car, we saw an outside seating area which we assumed was dog friendly. We respect that not everyone likes dohs and that the indoor restaurant area was probably dog-free. Then on the entrance to the garden, a sign saying NO DOGS in capital letters. Dog owners buy the same coffee and food as everyone else here but have to sit on an uncomfortable old picnic bench by the entrance to the shop, right by where all the cars pull in. Needless to say we did didn’t stay and won’t be back. Can’t recommend this place to any dog owners.

After having tried lots and lots of places for breakfast, from group names to other farm shops, all 4 of us unanimously agree this is the best location for our bi-weekly meet-ups for breakfast. There is a super variety of breakfast sizes and at last an excellent gluten-free option. The service is quick and friendly and the quality is superb. On our last visit we managed to obtain a window table for the excellent view and so now request such a table when we book for our next visit. Thanks you The Oakes for your warm welcome and the addition of some lovely produce from the farm shop.

Nice atmosphere, delicious food, friendly service...... but when we visited at the start of lunch service there were a few cleanliness issues. Our table hadn't been cleaned properly, and there were a lot of crumbs/debris under the table - I noticed the same at neighbouring tables. The first fork, and the first knife, I picked out were both dirty. And while my water glass had clearly been through the dishwasher, there were quite a few marks of the type you get when the dishwasher isn't rinsing properly. Finally there were a couple of cleanliness issues in the Gents toilet which didn't seem to have been checked for a while. A bit of improvement needed in the overall cleaning area!

Only discovered this place recently but what a joy. Quality well cooked and presented food at reasonable prices, superb staff, pleasant and helpful, nice relaxed clean environment. Wish more established ‘hospitality’ venues would take a lesson from this place in how to do it! Quite simple when the management care enough to get it right but so many other local pubs and restaurants get it so wrong. We’ve now become regulars.

Shop was really well stocked with high quality items. The cafe was full but they took our name and came and found us in the shop when the table was ready. Ordered a ploughman’s which came with 3 different cheeses, ham, pork pie, salad and chutney. For the price, a bit disappointed with only one slice of bread, to share with such lovely food. It was not the cheapest of dishes. Our biggest bugbear was that they added 20p on to coffee and tea if you wanted decaf!! Never had this anywhere else and hopefully never will.

My wife and daughter enjoyed their turkey roast, but I was told that they had run out of Welsh Rarebit. What? It's just fancy cheese on toast! When we were looking in the farm shop after we had eaten, I noticed ALL the ingredients to Welsh Rarebit in the shop, so why was it off the menu? I went for fish and chips and unfortunately the chips were by far the worst chips I have eaten for a very long time. They were soggy and flaccid – it shouldn't be possible to bend a chip in half without it breaking. The mocha and the battered fish on the other hand were very nice, otherwise this review would be two stars. Sort your chips out and this would have been a pleasant lunch.

I popped into the farm shop as i had passed numerous times on the school run. I planned to have a brew and read my book. I love the drive and fields surrounding the shop/restaurant building as it felt like i was in the countryside. A long look around the shop, selling usual farm shop items but with a personal feel like it was a family business. I loved so many things i started to take photos and decided to have my drink first. A pot of tea and scone with jam and cream was less then a fiver and i was pleased to see it came with butter. Many staff all busy and a full restaurant. The disabled loo was also the ladies and it was clean and tidy. The shop had some items which i had not seen before, lots of local produce and majority of made on site which was impressive. Cakes were sold but with quarter's so the family could all have a differnt flavour for the same price what an fab idea!. Many items were brought, lots added onto the adgenda for in a few weeks and a few cheaky gifts for loved ones. I absolutely love the picture of the guy in the field from 50years ago where now the restaurant stands. I was unable to sit on the outdoor benches as the gate was locked but i presume due to the wet weather it would be muddy. I admire the traditional dairy items which i have only brought previously from a dairy farm on holiday. I.e the cream in a jar. Staff were warm and welcoming and answered my questions. A real treat. I presume the brekfast would contain ingredients which are local and butcher quality so i will enjoy having one of those next time. Well done all !

First off if your thinking of going here book a table if you can as it was very busy with many tables already reserved, a lady behind did notice some weren’t book out till 2 hours after so we were luck to jump onto 1 of those tables, we choose what we wanted & went up & ordered, my wife had the Farmers Breakfast £7.49, I had the Mighty Oak Breakfast £10.99 & our little by had pouched eggs on toast, with a coffee, hot chocolate & fruit shoot to drink at an extra cost to the breakfast, drinks were served pretty quick, the hot chocolate was very nice & hot ( not many places serve the m hot) the food took about 40 minutes to arrive, a bit to long when your trying to entertain a toddler! All the ingredient were good but not as good as they should be when its a farm shop & not up to the same standard as many other places we’ve visited, they sold very nice looking bread in the shop but this look & tasted like it was the cheap stuff from a supermarket, all our eggs were over cooked but the rest was cook well, I like that they serve the baked beans in a ramekin so i can choose were it goes on my plate.

I recently discovered this gem of a farm shop, or so I thought. Lats time we had egg benedict and the hollandaise sauce was overwhelming, . This morning I took my children for breakfast. All our poaches eggs were disgustingly vinagery and could not be eated, the sausages really bland and dissapointing. It was by far the worst breakfast we ever had out. Why? When you have wonderful produce and pride yourself in your own fresh free range eggs, get a decent chef to cook it. I am quite angry- you have spoilt our morning.

We were looking for somewhere to eat after visiting the Dogs Trust and had our large dog with us at the time. We opted for a farm shop/cafe as we thought it was more likely to be able to accommodate our dog i.e. have seating/space outside, which it does. However, we were very surprised to find that the shop/cafe far exceeded our expectations. Normally, farm shops are quite basic, usually good food but fairly standard fare; this one has a very wide range of products, not just from their own produce but also good quality goods such as flavoured vodka, gins & some very nice spicy rum (one of my favs). Their own produce, is of course, good quality and the food served in the cafe, as well as sold was a tad expensive but very good quality. We bought a couple of rib eye steaks which were very tasty indeed but cost more than you would normally expect to pay. You get what you pay for though!

Visited Oakes farm shop deli counter today to purchase their toad in the hole after seeing it on Instagram. Ended up buying sausage parcels, Scotch eggs and jam tart cupcakes. They were so tasty I would recommend them to everyone! Best deli around!

We were traveling up country and thought we stop for lunch at a farm shop. Found Oakes farm shop Plenty of parking bright clean shop and cafe. Lots of local and tasty food. Deli counter looked particularly inviting. A lovely selection of cakes and beautifully made meringues. Yummy. Had a lovely lunch served by very polite experienced staff who were very helpful. Will be back

Went for breakfast with my friend and the cafe was extremely busy, we didn't have to wait too long though.

We go regularly with our 8 month old daughter. Always impressed with the quality of the breakfasts and the value for money. But above that the staff are always extremely welcoming and helpful. Can not recommend highly enough. They also cater to my gluten free needs

The scotch eggs on sale here are without a doubt the best I have ever had! I love the black pudding scotch eggs! Great price too! High recommended if you're a scotch egg lover like me! Great Service too from the lady behind the deli!

A group of us booked for a festive afternoon tea here. We were warmly greeted on arrival by friendly staff. The table was laid out beautifully and the location near to the large picture window was perfect as it meant we could enjoy the glorious view whilst we ate and drank.

I’ve visited this lovely farm shop on a number of occasions now and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. Gorgeous food, in a stunning location with views of the countryside. Love sitting outside in the outdoor seating area, when the weather is good. The farm shop itself sells some gorgeous local and fresh produce!

A fantastic find on a cold Monday! I saw they also do a roast for around £11 which is a bargain.

The Oakes is well situated on the outskirts of Balsall Common on the road to Knowle., The busy restaurant offers the traditional range of 'quick eats' plus a more substantial 'meal of the day ( turkey or beef at this time of the year). It is not open in the evenings. Two disappointments are some of the chairs are very hard and uncomfortable ( take a cushion for a more pleasant visit) and the acoustics retain sound and thus it appears very noisy, especially at peak times.

RockinWarren was booked to play live music here. A local pub, great customers and some serious music lovers. The staff very friendly, nice place. We recommened this place to play at or visit. There is an onsite car park. Easy access into the pub and a nice area to set up and play in. Thank you for having us, we hope to be invited back some time. Great venue

Best coffee i have tasted and I drink ALOT of coffee all over. The freshness and flavour of the coffee is amazing. Support this amazing coffee shop where you can also buy freshly ground coffee to take away.

Really getting shabby - needs painting and cleaning and is starting to resemble a dogs home! Been customer for years but not for much longer if things don't improve...

‘D’ was the rudest barmaid I’ve ever encountered!! I normally only ever leave positive feedback but felt the awful service I received from the barmaid at the Brickmakers arms was so disappointing I needed be honest about what you can expect from visiting this pub. Rude, argumentative and obnoxious! She aloud people in who should be barred and then blamed us for buying them drinks. DON’T let people in who cant drink responsibly, and if you do, don’t blame customers for your mistakes.
