Came for a birthday meal recently, the service was fairly ok but the food was terrible and it cost a fortune. The meals were dry and flavourless and didn't taste fresh, but somehow they took 45 minutes to come out (we were the only people in the restaurant). The dessert was inedible and we were served gone off cream. Our server was lovely and apologetic, the only reason I'm not giving it 1 star, and did make it up to us. However based on all this we wouldn't return and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

So my family treated me for my 50th birthday to High Tea, very disappointed on the quality of the food! Had Hair in the scone, the Jam was runny the filter coffee was very wishy washy! The service was poor and very expensive for what you get! Also some tried to pay in cash and some by card they refused to accept cash and made us get one of the party the pay on card for that person to take the cash! When my sister booked she wasn’t told they don’t accept cash! Forgot to bring out my birthday cake that my family had bought along and had to be asked to bring it out just before we left. Would I go back NO is the answer!!!

After experiencing many afternoon teas in Surrey and London, this is by far one of the worst I’ve been to unfortunately. Beautiful location and picturesque building but sadly there was no atmosphere and very poor service. Firstly after requesting for quiet background music during afternoon tea and getting that request denied, it was so quiet that we could hear everyone else’s conversations and chewing of their food. The sandwiches were crustless and very small; flavours were fine but nothing exciting - salmon; egg; tomatoes and then cucumber. Scones were tasty and very large which was a plus. Cakes melted in the sun by the time we got to them - nice variety but nothing unique (eclairs/brownie/lemon tart/ couple of others.) No one took us through what we were eating so they were all guesses. And lastly the service was extremely poor; one young female member of staff actually didn’t talk at all (found that extremely rude). It’s a shame as I think the location is brilliant, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. I do not recommend.

Went to to Oak Room restaurant at the woodlands for our anniversary. It’s really gone downhill - we’ve had some wonderful meals in the past but this was a bit second rate (overcooked and tough steak, bland pâté, very slow service). All in all a bit of a disappointment - I hope things pick up again as it used to be lovely but is now little more than pub food at very premium prices - shame.

A very average maybe even poor meal. Went for anniversary as had wedding reception there. Starters were very basic but ok. My main was not hot enough and lacked taste and seasoning. Not terrible but not what I would expect from a restaurant. Can probably get better in an average pub!

Their chef really needs to create nicer more diverse dishes. The dinner was ok, but I can get a similar one in any pub. There was neither amazing taste nor beauty in the dishes presented. The dessert was like from breakfast buffet - a thick layer of coconut yoghurt with shop-bought granola and 3 frozen blackberries. They didn't even bother to defrost blackberries. Even a small unknown restaurant in London has more diversity and nicer presentation of meals than here. You need to update your menu and make creative dishes, if you want repeat visit. The service was pleasant and mostly good. Although we did have to get their attention several times.

We took my Mum and Dad for Afternoon Tea at the Woodlands Park Hotel as a treat to celebrate their recent 90th and 95th Birthdays. The food and drink was excellent but the service was very disappointing in two respects. Firstly we arrived in good time for our 3.30pm booking slot but I stood at Reception desk for a full 10 minutes and was completely ignored. The one member of staff behind the desk was sorting out an IT problem over the phone and completely blanked me - not even an "I'll be with you in a minute". After 10 minutes I set off round the hotel to try to find any member of staff who might be able to tell me where we needed to go (the website suggests that Afternoon Tea can be taken in any one of three rooms but our reservation confirmation did not state which). I found a member of staff and was directed to the Oak Room. The second disappointment was that the two staff serving Afternoon Tea clearly had no idea about the etiquette if "taking afternoon tea". We were given our pots of tea a full 10 minutes before any food arrived. Eventually I had to ask one of the staff when we might expect some food (by now we had been at the Hotel for 40 minutes). It is not unreasonable to expect food and drink for Afternoon Tea to be served at about the same time. None of us wanted to drink a lot of tea first and then not have room for sandwiches and cakes. The other disappointment was the general decor in the Oak Room. It lacked the special atmosphere which you would normally expect for a formal Afternoon Tea. I'm sorry to say, but I cannot recommend this venue for Afternoon Tea.

Located within the Woodlands Park Hotel the restaurant is named after the beautiful oak panelling within. The menu has something for everyone. The Maitre ‘d’ was very pleasant and knowledgeable. However we had to wait 1 hour for a scallop starter, which is ridiculous. Told that the kitchen were busy dealing with a wedding party made us feel second best. Apologies were made but too little to late. When our food did arrive it was well presented and tasty. Good comprehensive wine list. Overall not hugely impressed with customer service. Notwithstanding the staff were lovely as was the food.

I am very familiar with this lovely Hotel with its sumptuous lounge sofas, well appointed bedrooms, and peaceful location. Having actually lived here myself for 3 months a few years ago, whilst my nearby home was undergoing rennovations. Myself and my family have previously enjoyed private dining in the Oak Room, various meals in the Brasserie and afternoon tea in the lounge. I was therefore delighted to be invited to join my parents in celebrating their anniversary this year on Friday 15th November 2019. On arrival we seated ourselves in the lounge for an apertif. After some time waiting for someone to welcome us & take our order, I approached the reception desk to see if any waiting staff were available. The receptionist, although on the telephone, made no eye contact with me whatsoever. So I ventured to the Brasserie, where our table was booked for 7pm. There were at least 3 members of staff present and no diners at all. I requested someone to take our drinks order. Shortly after this a waitress arrived and did so. My mother requested some Melon water and the waitress suggested that help herself to that !!!!! why? My mother (who is 72) asked the waitress if she would mind getting her a glass. The waitress arrived with the drinks order and no melon water, which we again had to request. We then asked to see the menus for the Brasserie so that we could peruse them whilst enjoying our pre dinner drinks, and were advised they were on the table. So we perused the dog eared, tatty menu's offering a very limited selection, including sandwiches - ??? we had booked a table for dinner at a 4* 'Hand picked hotel' - I would not expect to see sandwiches on a dinner menu. My Father asked to see the menu for the Oak Room. Although some items were repeated, this selection was better so my father revised the booking from the Brasserie to the Oak room which did at least have some other diners. We were advised our table was ready and took our seats. Evenutally, after my Sister had gone to fetch a waiter, our orders were taken and after requesting it, a wine list arrived. Everyone, by now really quite hungry, enjoyed the starters. The mains were not so good. Tough steak and a crab rissotto that didnt taste of crab, although the Cod topper was good. Dessert arrived (by which time one third of our party had left) and my parents were presented with some chocolates on a plate. Nice touch. My after dinner coffee was excellent. The waitress asked us if we'd like the bill, but my Fathers coffee, that had been ordered along with the deserts, had not yet arrived!!! Service in a venue of this standing & price bracket, ought to be 'silent', unnoticed and impeccable. The service we received was noticeably absent! In appropriate and noisy. Most definitely not how I remember it at this Hotel. This, coupled with the 'ok' main course deemed the entire experience very dissappointing indeed. As the waiting staff cleared our main course plates, the waitress asked if everything was ok with the meal - this is normal and expected - my father stated that his steak was tough (as was my sisters) and my mother stated she could taste no crab in the crab rissotto, but her vegetables were nice. The waitress laughed at this and said 'oh well, at least your vegetables were ok' and left! I was appalled at this response. In summary - overpriced and under delivered. From the Hand Picked Hotels brand I would expect to easily rate this Excellent, or Very Good, But I cannot.

Evening dinner at the Oak Room last night was superb. The waiters were the nicest we've come across for a good while, and very helpfulThe starters were excellent, we had the veloute and the smoked salmon with salmon mousse. We followed this with chicken (surprisingly superb) and the sea bream. Sweets were pannacotta and the rather unusual but wonderful cheesecake. This place is a little cut above normal but so is the food. Great for special occasions. Enjoy

The building that houses the restaurant and adjacent bistro is grand but cosy as you might somehow expect from a Victorian mansion. Wood panelling, ornamental staircases and stained glass provide an antique and comfortable ambience. By contrast, the bistro is bright and perhaps a bit spartan unlike the old money atmosphere of the Oak Room restaurant, where we chose to eat. An amuse-bouche was offered but was not explained by the friendly waiter. It was a rather lovely, thick and intense mushroom (and truffle ?) soup served in an espresso cup. We followed it with slow cooked belly of pork and a goose foie gras wrapped in a super coarse duck terrine. Both followed the nouvelle cuisine convention of small portions enhanced by careful layout and decoration. Both tasted very good. For the main courses we had cod with crispy skin and served with a very good risotto together with sirloin and glazed short rib. The beef was ordered medium but came rare, which was no problem for us. It might be prudent though to emphasise just how you want meat cooked when you order. The Smoked potato that came with the beef was delicious. Both dishes were well prepared and presented but, to my taste at least, lacking a little salt - easily remedied. All was lubricated by a pricey but very good Argentinian Malbec. One of the puzzling features of the nouvelle cuisine style is that it looks a bit stingy on the plate but leaves you feeling completely stuffed. We could barely finish the odd sounding but lovely popcorn ice cream and the well chosen cheese on the board. This was a very good meal in pleasant surroundings. I'm looking forward to visiting again. Recommended.

First visit here for a while, and we had a really enjoyable, nicely paced dinner. The surroundings are very relaxing and the service was generally attentive and pretty good, despite the restaurant being very busy. The food was the star of the show, however, and everything we had from the amuse bouche to dessert was delicious. The herb gnocchi I had for my main course was the best meat-free dish I've eaten in a long time, and I would thoroughly recommend it. Considering the standard of the restaurant and food, it is extremely good value for money. Won't leave it so long before my next visit!

The restaurant is well laid out, with a good ambience. The menu is thoughtfully prepared with seasonal selections. It's inventive and creative. The wines are quite extensive, and from all over. I particularly like the Shiraz from South Africa. But equally the Tempranillo from Spain is good, too. Altogether, stylish, English, seasoned and romantic. It's a place to celebrate and take stock, or to think. The menu is a fixed price, fine dining experience, with clever food and a reasonable price. The staff work hard to please. Enjoy.......

The amuse bouche was nicely presented, but was just a small slice of cheap liver pate. My husband started with smoked trout, I had duck's liver which was a tiny splodge of liver, boosted by a potato concoction. Again, nicely presented, but the duck's liver was slimy and raw and quite unpleasant. The olive rolls were tasteless, we had one tiny slice of butter between us; when finished we had to ask for more and no waiter poured our wine or asked us if we wanted more bread. In fact, no service! No big deal, BUT, there seemed to be lots of friendly staff running around everywhere but all of them being of little use to diners. We then waited almost an hour for the main course. There is NO excuse for this, if a hotel this size can't cope with the number of guests then they shouldn't be booking them in. We had given them up until the hour and we were going to walk out but then the main courses arrived. My husband had duck which was almost raw and very tough, also there was no sign of the promised duck confit. We should have complained at the time but my husband said to the waiter when he took the dishes, that the meal was 'absolutely awful' and the waiter laughed! My lamb was tasteless and also almost raw and tough, although the jus was the best bit and the vegetables prepared imaginatively. The chocolate dessert was just mediocre. My husband again complained to member of staff when he signed for the meal and was told he would tell the management. It seems that nowadays, you complain but people still take the money just saying oh sorry about that etc etc. The Oak Room is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant, but is far from it. Some people are obviously fooled by well presented food that it's good food. It isn't here. If the chef cannot produce food of fine dining quality, then I suggest the management of Woodlands Park visit a few gastro pubs and adopt their method of cooking, I think the chef was aiming beyond capability and should only aim at good pub grub. Anyway, the breakfast was fine, but we would never again dine at the Oak Room.

I am mindful that when writing a review, and this is my very first one, one must consider the price paid. and on that basis our dinner for two on Friday June 28th was one of the worst ever. The free amuse bouche of grilled hallumi cheese was ver basic and cheap looking .My starter of duck breast was totally tasteless as was my main course of game bird. My guest's soup was cold and her main course totally indifferent. The service was beyond amateurish . On three occasions i panicked that the contents of my plate were going to slide onto the floor as my guest was being served with my plate in the waiter's hands.Out of four dishes they did not remember once on who had ordered what and despite the 50/50 chance of getting right they got it wrong 5 times.Honestly one would complain about the service in a Little Chef let alone a restaurant of hotel claiming to be the top in the area.To cap it off two attempts to get me a hot espresso in the lounge was a failure and one thing I have NEVER experienced is that the petit fours incurred a cost of £5.An awful, never to be repeated, experience
