Lovely afternoon Devon cream tea! The Cherry Bakewell scone was probably one of the best I’ve ever had, and judging by my waistline, I’ve had a few! Lovely setting, sat in the outside terrace in a warm afternoon! Will definitely make the effort to come here again on a trip to the wet country!

Visited the Oak Barn today with another couple, sitting at a table for four people, we had soups and a scone, no problem with the food, however having just consumed our food we were chatting when a member of staff asked us if we would vacate our table because there were people waiting. I don't think that this is the best way to treat customers by asking them to leave as soon as you have had their money and they have eaten their food, we had only been in the establishment for approximately 45 minutes. On my way out I told said member of staff, that I did not think she had used the correct approach - she said she was sorry I felt that way but I could tell that she was unrepentant for doing so. If a hospitality business is busy it is not etiquette to ask people to leave after such a short period of time and I will not be frequenting that establishment again and furthermore I am sure the owner won't be very pleased about the way his member of staff has treated four customers.

Enjoyed a substantial sandwich lunch sat outside in the covered seating area. Staff were very friendly and there is easy on-site parking. The barn also sells unique wooden sculptures and furniture as well as a selection of local produce. Well worth stopping by.

We are regular customers and love to sit by the wood burner with coffee and scones. We met relations there yesterday and they liked the cafe as much as we do. I can recommend a winter visit and the plain scones. If like us you do not have a wood burner in your current home you too can enjoy that real fire fix.

I called in here as I was driving past with my partner and thought it looked cool and quirky. When we pulled up outside there was a sign that said they were short staffed today and weren’t able to serve food past 2pm, it was 2:15 but we thought we would try. They had said they could help and I’m so glad they did. We both had a cream tea and sat outside the food was amazing and the seating area outside was just as good. It was a really nice relaxing seating area and when I return to Devon I will be coming back.

THANK YOU so much, called in today Bank holiday Monday 5 mins before closing time expecting to be turned away, but NO we were welcomed in and enjoyed a lovely cream tea(best we have had in years) with my Mother who hadn't been out of the house for many months due to covid lock down. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, we had a lovely time, would throughly recommend you visit, especially after a nice walk on the beach, we will be back, as we live locally. And by the way fully covid safe, thank you again.

Have been a regular visitor here however being first people to sit in outdoor seating this morning it was obvious tables had not been cleaned from previous day . Crumbs and dirty used napkin on table . Asked staff to please bring drink order out as difficult to negate slippy decking with tray . Admittedly there are signs warning of slippy decking . Staff aware of dirty table when placing tray down however had be asked if they would please clean table as it obviously hadn’t been cleaned previously . Member of staff came out with damp cloth and gave it a flippant wipe over , appeared to be a problem for her . No antibacterial spray in sight !!!! Definitely no cleaning of outdoor tables between customers and staff were definitely aware of change of clientele on tables as were bringing trays of drinks out for customers . Very disappointing ! Will definitely NOT be visiting again . Did not feel Covid safe at all .

As a regular for many years I was disappointed to find as the first customer today that the outside tables had crumbs and dirty napkins clearly from the previous day. I asked a member of staff to clean the table and this was done reluctantly with a damp cloth - no anti bac. Tables were not cleaned between customers and customers were not discouraged from moving seats around making social distancing impossible. No table service available. I did ask for my drinks to be brought out and again this was done reluctantly. This used to be a lovely place but value for money is not great and with poor Covid precautions in place outside I won’t be returning unless things change. The value for money comment is because I was previously given a cup of hot water and a tea bag for £2.50 - I understood tea pots were not being used at the time but hot water could have been poured onto the tea bag rather than being expected to make my own tea. My main concern however is Covid safety.

Great place to visit to enjoy a lovely cup of coffee and choice of cakes or savoury lunches. Outside seating is available on the decking and inside is busy with tables but not over crowded. There is a lovely 2 sided log burner in the centre to be enjoyed as well. Food has always been delicious! You can purchase lots of home furnishings in the shop, it’s well worth a look around, helpful and friendly staff. Looking at other reviews, I assume the paper cups and plates are more than likely due to Covid restrictions, I have never experienced this before and I’ve been coming here for years!

As a regular visitor to the Oak Barn I would like to compliment this establishment on their approach to social distancing. Impressed this morning at the seating inside with the tables separated by clear screens, tables sanitised and staff most polite and helpful. One way system with clear makings and sanitiser provided. Every effort made to comply with Covid regulations. Well done Oak Barn.

Stopped for coffee and cake; coffee was ok, I asked for it extra hot but it was just warm. The cakes were nice but they were just tiny slithers, 2 maybe 3 mouthfuls and it was gone, so they worked out very expensive. Not value for money so will not be returning.

Went for coffee on a recent visit to Budleigh. The positive. A very nice outdoor setting. Negatives Overpriced. All coffee served in plastic cups at £3 each regardless of what time of coffee you have. Americano,Espresso Cappuccino or Flat White. This is probably the most expensive coffee in Exeter and surrounding area! I ordered 2 skinny cappuccinos. Sorry we only have full fat milk! The delivery has not arrived yet! At midday? There are two supermarkets close by! Why not go and buy some? Can I have a glass of tap water please? Sorry can't give you a glass! Okay a plastic cup will be fine. Sorry can't serve you tap water against the rules! Which rules???? We can sell you bottled water still or sparkling! This sums it up only interested in profit not customer service. This is the first time I have ever been told that we don't serve tap water. Even The Ritz will serve tap water! I should have walked out but my wife wanted a coffee! Bootle 45

Popped in to the Oak Barn, just outside Budleigh Salterton for lunch with a friend. Quite small café area but quaint and in winter there is a lovely blazing fire - very cosy. Delicious Paninis and tea served in a infuser so you can choose the right strength for yourself. Choice of home baked cakes and scones at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Interesting collection of furniture and gifts to browse either before or after eating. Plenty of free parking on site.

Having recently moved to the area, we always pass the Oak Barn but never had the time to stop. However, Sunday of this week we were able to stop and I am so glad we did, the cake selection was great and the cakes we had were divine and the coffee was great too! Also the furniture was lovely and beautiful handmade sofas. A must if you live or are on holiday in the area. Also must mention the most important bit, the staff were all friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and the price was really reasonable.

Tucked away on the road from Budleigh Salterton to Exmouth road, just past the turning for Little Knowle, set back off the road is the best find for unique furniture and a fabulous coffee lounge. Run by Mike Henderson and his wife, here one can see the wonderful furniture hand made by Mike and his staff. This includes the usual tables chairs etc, but more impressive is the the made to order leather and fabric sofas and chairs. The gorgeous oak furniture and home accessories make for wonderful gifts for yourself or friends. There is so much to see, this is more of an attraction than a shop. You can spend hours, literally, looking at the hand crafted goods on sale, and Mike is always available to answer any question you might care to ask on furniture related items. His wife runs the uniquely smart but cosy coffee lounge. Here one can sample the deligts of home cooking such as scones, cakes, and sponges. A choice of coffee is offered, and if you are not sure, advice will be offered if you need it, so ensuring the best coffee for you. I decided to have a cheese scone and a pot of tea. Nothing unusual about that you might think, but when I tell you that the tea is LEAF TEA, none of your catering tea bags here, and it comes with THREE timers. One for weak tea drinkers, one for slightly stronger tea drinkers, and the other for people like me who like the taste of tea at its best - nothing weak about me!! Now that is unusual!! The scone I had was made with cheese. Well, when I tell you I have experienced cheese scones that were made with a scraping of cheese on the top and baked and served as a cheese scone, what I was served with on this occasion was a scone that was made with cheese as well as covered in cheese. Yes, this was a cheese scone to put others to shame. My colleague chose a CHERRY BAKEWELL SCONE - No, I hadn't heard of one either - but it lived up to its name. We followed this with a piece of Tunisian Orange cake which had a very nice icing on the top, and a piece of lemon and blackcurrant cake. Both were particularly enjoyable!I have ear-marked this place for another visit, as there will be something for everyone.Oh, and one last thing. We all get caught short at times, and Mike has designed the toilets himself, using wood, slate, discreet lighting and the most modern of toilet units. Even the wash basin is made out of wood!! If nothing else you must try out the toilets - even if you only enter and look!Congratulations Mike, we'll be back soon.

We celebrated our daughter's 5th birthday party today at Amazing Grazing. It was incredible- marquee set up with tables; smaller marquee with tuff trays of games; whole paddock with tonnes of activities from building to tyre rolling to a miniature flower shop; goat, pig and alpaca supervised feeding. Superb from start to finish. Fantastic value for money and Taro was so helpful right from booking to the day itself making sure it was the best experience for our little girl and her friends.
