The food is ok, but it's way too expensive for one meat dish when it's called a meat thali, plus it's ckn breast. This is 17.5pounds, whereas a meal at the nearby Indian places works out to less than 15 if you're sharing a couple meats between 3-4 people The laddu is quite interesting, V dense and it really approximates the texture of a sweet rather than a fruit. The price comes from labour costs, because apparently she cooks each portion of curry for each thali individually. Also when you choose your spicy level it's just how much chili powder she mixes in. Very warm restaurant with an extremely pleasant hostess and delicious dishes (try the Shaha Matar Paneer!) for reasonable prices (for Scotland!). Our favorite of the holidays, we even went back.

Stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant today with a friend, and it was such a memorable experience! We were drawn in by an amazing aroma wafting from the place, and as soon as we stepped in, the lovely lady who runs it greeted us with warmth and energy that instantly made us feel at home. She gave us spot-on recommendations, and what followed was one of the best Indian food we’ve ever tasted. The dishes were simple but packed with flavour. We also had chai to drink, and it was the perfect touch to this meal. We hadn’t planned to eat here, but as it turned out sometimes the best finds are the unplanned ones. The place may not look like much from the outside, but don’t let that fool you – it’s all about the food and the energy inside. Highly recommend this spot.

Petit restaurant qui ne paie pas de mine mais dès la porte passée vous vous sentez comme à la maison tellement la bonne humeur de la patronne est contagieuse. La nourriture était excellente et les portions généreuses. L'établissement ne vend pas d'alcool mais vous pouvez apporter le votre moyennant une faible contribution. A recommander sans hésiter. Qué fabulosa experiencia en una calle tranquila de Edimburgo, todo cobró vida en el restaurante Nutan's. Nos sentamos, empezamos a charlar con el propietario, chef y camarera Nutan, y hicimos nuestros pedidos. El resto de la experiencia fue simplemente mágico! Nutan era muy amable y atrayente, asegurándose de que entendía nuestras preferencias. No le tomó mucho tiempo entregar nuestros dos thalis - el mío no era - vegetariano. Los sabores eran profundos, el pollo al curry tenía la cantidad justa de patada para hacerme saborear cada bocado, y el naan era suave y escamoso al mismo tiempo. Tan bien como la comida sabía, la mejor parte de la cena fue charlar con Nutan y los otros clientes que llegaron después. Está claro ver que todos disfrutan de la increíble comida sabrosa, así como la personalidad y las conversaciones de Nutan. Sin duda volveré la próxima vez que visite Edimburgo.

It felt like we went to a relative's home for dinner. What a fabulous experience on a quiet street in Edinburgh, everything came alive at Nutan's restaurant. We got seated, started chatting with the owner, chef, and waitress Nutan, and placed our orders. The rest of the experience was simply magical! Nutan was very personable and engaging, making sure she understood our preferences. It didn't take her long to deliver our two thalis - mine was non-veg. The flavors were deep, the chicken curry had just the right amount of kick to make me savor each bite, and the naan was soft and flaky at the same time. As good as the food tasted, the best part of dinner was chatting with Nutan and the other customers who arrived afterwards. It's clear to see that everyone enjoys the incredible tasty food as well as Nutan's personality and conversations. I will definitely return the next time I visit Edinburgh.

Nutan’s is the best solo dining experience in the world, it might be the best restaurant in Edinburgh. The proprietor, chef, waiter and namesake herself is a fountain of wisdom and love. There may be no other restaurant in the capital where you are greeted in singsong familiarity by such a bubbly and welcoming eccentric who will treat you like a long lost family member, talk you through the menu then plod downstairs humming cheerily to go cook your tea. Unreasonably cheap restaurant quality, village style food, cooked with love and to your specifications. BYOB but the energy is so intoxicating you don’t need alcohol. If delicious home cooking, unintentional stand-up comedy and setting the world to rights are your vibe - then head to Nutan’s

Such a gem of a find for a late Saturday evening meal. The lovely lady who owns this place does absolutely everything herself and has done for the past 10 years. Shes very warm and welcoming. Great menu to choose from, I had the non-veg thali (platter), which comes on a cute metal tray, separated into different sections for curry, rice, naan, poppadoms and other sundries. All very tasty and authentically home made. Such a great find and different to the usual big and commercial establishments. Definitely recommend.

I dined here alone last night and had a blast! Super relaxing, cosy atmosphere, delicious food with numerous vegan options, and the owner is super nice!

Had a really lovely meal hear last night was a friendly warm armosphere and the food was certinly prepared with care ; enjoyed every mouthful ; this longstanding restaurant in Toll Cross Edinburgh is perfect for food before a film at the Cameo. Made my evening eating here and I will be back again and highly recomend you try it.

My wife and I stopped a close by shop in the area and we were looking for some food on the way back to our hotel and we found Nuntan's Indian Bistro and were very thankful we stopped there because for one, the food was great with a great price and two, the owner Nutan was very kind and a pleasure to talk! Our reccomendation is to get the meal combo for 15 euro as it has a wide variety of food that comes with it like Naan and two different curries. The mango lassi's were great as well and freshly made! Nuntan made us feel welcome to Edinburgh and gave us a few reccomendations on where to visit and what to do. She is also very kind and personable as she asked us about where we're from and how our day was going. I'm from Alabama where people are very friendly and Nuntan made us feel like a part of her family. Thank you Nuntan for the great food and great conversations. I hope to see you again on our next visit!

I've been to Nutan's on several occasions and I've loved it both times. The food is fresh and delicious. Nutan is always happy to greet you with a smile brighter than the sun. If you're after a takeaway wrap or a sit down curry you will not be disappointed. The folks that give Nutan's a one star review have obviously had a bad day elsewhere. For me there is nothing to fault. See you soon Nutan.

Strangely I am writing a review without visiting the place. We called up the restaurant for a reservation but the hostess told us to first check the menu & then come as we would ask for something & would be disappointed!! Reality was we had checked the menu! It looked like she was discouraging us to come.

She said, we don’t make tandoori roti please try in other places. We felt little insulted and got out of the place. We found another nice place nearby (Indian street food). Fantastic Indian cuisine with reasonable prices in the heart of Edinburgh. The owner (our waiter) Nutan is such an inspiring woman, a true one-person show. We were amazed at her joyous and uplifting spirit, and we absolutely adored our experience. Be warned, though, on busy days (like the time we went), service might be slow due to the fact she's doing everything (completely out of her control). Overall, an outstanding experience!

I had dinner twice at Nutan's restaurant. She is the most wonderful lady and an amazing cook. Nutan welcomes her guests with open arms and always has a smile on her face. I ordered the vegetarian thali and it was the best thali I have ever had. If you are in Edinburgh, go check out Nutan's restaurant for freshly homemade healthy Indian food!

We ate dinner late, so we were the only ones in there, but unlike so many places that tend to ignore you when they are slow, the service was delightful and exceptional. The food was equally delicious, too! We're from the U.S. and our favorite local Indian restaurant's "medium spice" is less spicy than here, so it was making me sweat, but that didn't diminish how flavorful and really good the food was. We would definitely return and recommend it to others!

We had the best food in a long time at Nutan’s. The host is so friendly and fun. People in this restaurant spontaneously had conversions with each other, all because of the great atmosphere she creates. Will definitely eat here again when back in Edinburgh.
