Excellent fish restaurant with wine bar above, both need to be booked.

Food was delicious, staff were extremely helpful, a great restaurant- it's just very hard to book as it's always busy🤣

We visited for the first time on Thursday 14th November, the service and food were excellent.

If you want fresh fish cooked to perfection then this is for you. Theatrical owner makes for a fantastic atmosphere. Family run always a bonus . Tip - Try the wine bar upstairs endless quality wines 👌 Can't wait to go back

What a find. A fantastic little fish resturant. The freshest fish and good choices. The staff were friendly and knew what they were doing. Will definitely return.

If fish is your thing, no:7 is the place. Great food and lovely staff. I dined here with 2 friends and my OH. They had whole crab and Dover sole, as a non fish eater, I had chicken. Everything was cooked exquisitely and presented well. For pudding, I had creme brulee, which I think was one of the best I've had. Throughly recommend, a lovely evening out.

This is our favourite fish restaurant in the world. When we visit Torquay we always visit & mine host, Paul, always pleasant, friendly & helpful. Ambiance is great with a cosy upstairs wine bar for pre dinner drinks. It’s all about the food though & where fish is concerned nowhere better. We’ve been dining there since 2009 & can’t recommend too highly. As the review title says “never disappoints”

Had dinner last night, oysters as pre starter, I had French onion soup, she had a trio of mackerel pate king prawn and hot smoked salmon 10/10 Main I had a large skate wing with new pots and veg perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious, wife had lemon sole with mash and salad 10/10 Rhubarb creme brulĕ to finish 10/10 Nice bottle of white wine made it a perfect dinner. It is a beautiful little restaurant and well worth the cost. Definitely returning

Had a fantastic dinner last night 3 courses of delicious well cooked and presented food. Service was excellent by a young staff. Everything was fresh tasting and delicious, we will definitely be returning

We had a table booked for 8.30pm but wasn't shown to our table until 9pm, then we had to wait another 40 minutes until our food arrived which was ok, it wasn't wow factor. Staff were very attentive and very personable. We didn't have the best experience but maybe we were unlucky as the reviews are amazing which is why we went there. Would give it another go if we returned to Torquay.

Had a meal at No 7 last night, cracking restaurant, the staff are lovely, they know about the food and drinks they are serving, nothing is too much trouble. The food is AMAZING.....really can't wait to go back.

Small error We had a couple of days in Torquay and decided to try two venues. We both love fish and seafood. The venue is well laid out, nice decor and great staff. The presentation of the raw fish to peruse when bought over by thr waiter is a great idea. The starter of prawn, scallop and mussel had great promise and great flavour BUT the mussels were gritty. Waiter told us there was a shortage of mussels and so they were struggling to source them. He said another party had commented about the grit! Why serve them then? The main was a selection of three fish cooked I. Different ways, all mini fillets. The cod and the plaice were delicious. Dessert was a soft chocolate mousse cake and I asked them to flame it with cointreau a delicious dessert. Overall a good meal lovely staff clean basic toilets but.....grit!

Very busy when we arrived, but young lad instantly said he would ask manager if we could go upstairs. This turned out to be a win! Much quieter, big+ for someone who wears hearing aids & a beautiful view of sun setting across the harbour. Huge wine list. I cringed at the prices, but I always do in restaurants

A unique dining experience with a great atmosphere! So much knowledge from the staff and delicious fresh, local produce on offer. Perfect place to try new fish. Wine bar upstairs shares the same quality. Would highly recommend.

This is such an incredible place, we arent from Torquay and as seafood lovers i was searching before our trip to find somewhere with fresh good food and stumbled upon this place. we loved it so much we came back to torquay just to visit again Paul was so incredibly accommodating both visits, the food is truly amazing and the wine bar above it fab. Absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves seafood and wine. We will defiantly be back

The view from the wine bar is spectacular and the vast selection of wines on offer is amazing. It’s a pity that the food didn’t hit the mark. The fish was well cooked but flavourless whilst the sides were average.

Being fish lovers we booked No 7 Fish Bistro and Wine Bar before leaving home for Torquay. On making the reservation, the man said he was not at the restaurant, would check availability and get back to us us. True to his word, he messaged us to confirm however, not for 7.30 but 8.30. This suited us so we confirmed. Before arrival, we were aware that the wine bar was upstairs and as we had turned up early for our booking, we went straight up. This was a beautiful space, the atmosphere was extremely relaxed and welcoming. The sommelier was keen to ask us about our wine preferences, discussed a couple of bottles of wine and on his recommendation, we made our choice. As soon as the time for our table reservation came round, a waiter from the restaurant approached us and showed us downstairs. Super service! Beautiful platters of fresh fish were bought to our table for us to chose for our mains - we both opted for the skate and new potatoes. As we both love king prawns in garlic (always a favourite whether here in the UK, Greece etc) we ordered these for our starters. The prawns were divine - as expected and the skate was utterly melt-in-the mouth delicious. For a fish bistro we knew this would be the case - we were not disappointed at all! Now here's what let our meal down - the new potatoes. They had that 're-heated taste' to us. It was so obvious that they had been cooked earlier, possibly refrigerated and then heated by a microwave. They were difficult to eat so we both did not finish them. The small portion of accompanying salad was rather tasty though. Our plates was collected by an older guy (we later found out his name to be Paul) who was off-hand, abrupt and quite abrasive (rude) when he enquired about our mains and the critique we gave him about the potatoes. He made us feel very uncomfortable and that really soured our evening. Up until that point, the sommelier, young waiter and waitress had provided a fabulous service. Our 4 star rating is due to the above situation. As a wine bar and fish bistro, we were not disappointed - fish cooked beautifully and very fresh and the recommended wine complemented our choices beautifully. Despite Paul, we would recommend a visit!

Fabulous restaurant right on the quay side. Lovely views from the first floor wine bar. We had emailed the restaurant before hand to tell them we were celebrating our anniversary weekend and the staff warmly welcomed us, and there was an anniversary banner and rose petals on the table. Thank you so much to Number 7’s professional staff for making our evening so memorable. Our meal was delicious. We both had the scallops as a starter and I had the Lemon Sole with herbs and garlic and my husband had the fish and chips. Neither of us had room for a desert. Thank you again, we would definitely return to your wonderful restaurant next time we are in Torquay.

Excellent food, service was great. We had a fixed amount of time booked so it did feel a bit rushed, particularly as we enjoyed three courses. Apart from that it was a wonderful experience.

I am a meat eater and only really started eating fish about twelve years ago. But whenever we visit the family I want to come and eat here. The fish is fresh and tasty, simply prepared, but deliciously so. Plus, their wine bar upstairs is very nice, with a good selection of wines! Probably best restaurant in Torquay, certainly in the top 5. If you like seafood you must eat there!

Difficult to get into, as they are really popular and booked solid, but we managed a same day 6pm early dinner. We started at the upstairs bar while waiting for a table, where we were greeted by Robin the sommelier, who overseas the dozens and dozens of international wine varieties . The man is an absolute expert in wines and spirits, and can readily recommend a pairing for dinner or a cocktail beforehand. We were seated for dinner on time and had a variety of fresh local fish and shellfish. Very reasonably priced and quite delicious.

One of the best meals I’ve had in the Uk… ! They sure know how to cook fish. It was delicious, sophisticated yet sober. Even the chips are cooked to perfection. A pleasant surprise as I was merely attracted by the outside.

I have come here since I moved to Torbay from London in 2000. It has always been consistently excellent and somewhere I can confidently recommend to any fish or seafood lover, whether they live in Torbay, or are visiting the area.

Wow! It is one of the best sea food restaurants I have been to. It's not flashy or trendy and a bit dated but full of character. On arrival, we went upstairs to the wine bar . Fantastic selection of wines served by a very polite gentleman at our table. We were led downstairs to the restaurant and shown the menu, catch of the day fresh from Brixham and other specials. The choices were all good. My son had the prawns, scallops, and mussels to start , my wife crab salad, and I the grilled king prawns in garlic butter. Yum yum yum. For mains, I went for the hake with a tomato and basil oil , and the others had 3 fish special and the turbot. All were cooked to perfection and tasted Fantastic. Finished with seasonal brulee and Brandy snap with ice cream and Amaretto. Overall experience was great . Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. Well done, No. 7 fish bistro.

Everything is special about this place. The food is exceptional, the service is brilliant and the drinks are amazing. The mussels scallops and prawns that are cooked in the garlic butter were to die for. I could have drunk the garlic butter by the pint. The monkfish was some of the best I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection. They also had a white port spritz… wow! Possibly the most refreshing and moreish drink. The whole experience was amazing. It is expensive, but when the service, food and drinks are as good as this, you would happily pay more!

I brought my 8 year old son to the restaurant this week as I wanted some nice seafood. Whilst the food was amazing, the main reason for this review is how welcome they made us feel and great the staff were with my son. I must admit I was nervous bringing him to such a nice place at 9pm (the only time available) and he was the only child in there at that time on a Saturday night. We had a lovely high end meal in a fantastic restaurant and was certainly a highlight of our holiday! Many thanks to everyone and thank you for allowing well behaved children during evening dining

The fish is presented to you on a tray, and the host tells you about each fish they have available that day. The cod steak was thick, and cooked to perfection. Definitely the tastiest and freshest fish I have ever had. The Chocolate Moussecake is to die for. Best restaurant in Torquay, a total hidden gem. I recommend booking as it gets busy, and they had to turn away people who just turned up.

Walked in after a day of travel and meetings... they very kindly accommodated me without a reservation (although it is recommended to have one). I was so pleasantly surprised by the extensive list of wines by the glass! The food is not fussy: simple preparation of local seafood to highlight the flavors of the fish. The veggies could have used more salt, though. And the plate of local cheeses was heavenly with a glass of Jurançon. Will hopefully be back here again in the fall, and am looking forward to the seasonal delights offered then (and will absolutely make a resi next time!).

Given a £100 gift voucher , from a beautiful friend . we don't go out very often so a little apprehensive, needn't of been , beautiful restaurant, excellent staff .made to feel so at ease. But wow the food out of this world ,enjoyed every bite, really didn't want it end . Thankyou Paul and staff for a wonderful experience, definitely will go again 😊

First time there, great food. Will be back.

We could only get a table at 6pm which was ok as my mother likes to eat early. We arrived at 5.50pm to find the door locked and the tables being laid. We were asked to wait upstairs in the bar which given the rain we didn't really have a choice but I would rather my mother who uses a stick didn't have to do this and we could have been shown straight in. The wine bar options were good and the views from the windows lovely. We were invited back downstairs at 6.10pm and our drinks taken down. We liked the table window and the restaurant tiling reminded us of a Portuguese/Spanish restaurant - if it hadn't been pouring with rain and cold outside !! We were shown various options of the day's catch on a platter and the specials boards. The position of these meant we had to stand in front of other people dining which was a bit intrusive for them. The crab salad starter and mackerel and salmon pate for starters and mains of hake with tomato and basil and fish 3 ways with 3 sauces were all delicious, though I had to ask for more tartare sauce as it was a stingy amount. To finish we shared a brandy basket with amoretto ice cream which was very nice. We weren't rushed when we wanted a break between the mains and pud and apart from a few niggles mentioned, we really enjoyed the meal and evening. Price wise it's higher end but we felt it was worth it. We didn't mind the added service charge since service was very good. We would definitely book again if visiting Torquay.

Absolutely beautiful food, the staff managed to get us in last minute and the food didn’t disappoint. Very attentive to detail, showed us what fish was what, advised well on the wine list. The food was absolutely amazing. Overall, did not disappoint and would definitely recommend and go again.

We booked this restaurant for my birthday based on what appeared to be good reviews. The guy we spoke with when we booked sounded like he was doing us a favour. That should have been a red flag. We were told to get there early we soon found out why. We arrived 15 mins early and entered the restaurant only to be left standing there in between the tables for some time being completely ignored. Eventually we were told we had to wait upstairs and get a drink in the wine bar. Second red flag. We entered the wine bar and were asked what we wanted to drink. Wine prices were elaborately chalked on a blackboard which were very expensive. We normally just split a bottle with dinner but now we are £20 into drinks we didn't want. Eventually we are ushered downstairs to the restaurant and given a table. After about 10 mins we were asked if we wanted a drink. This was nearly half an hour after the time the table was booked. Not a big deal had it not been that we were told to arrive early and if late we would loose the table. Eventually we got some menus and the theatre began. We were shown some unimpressive assorted fish on a tray and left to decide. I had the fish/seafood soup and the fish and chips as I didn't want anything fancy just a good meal. Well, the soup was disgusting. It wasn't a nice broth with a few edible pieces of fish or seafood. It literally was the rubbish probably all the bone and leftovers with the odd mussel. If you've ever had good fish/seafood soup you would have been as appalled as I was. Then the fish and chips. Firstly the portion was very small but worse the fish was thin and mushy. It was revolting and I guarantee you could get far better in any fish & chip shop. The mushy peas were dry and tasteless and the chips average. My wife's meal was no better and that went back. Basically it was an extremely disappointing night out. I would not recommend this restaurant /wine bar under any circumstances and where it gets it's reviews from needs investigating.

Outstanding dinner and wine with a great atmosphere. We started in the upstairs wine bar where the staff were very knowledgeable and engaging about their wines. Downstairs in the restaurant the service was just as good. They provided information about the dishes and we loved everything they served. The seasoning was perfect and brought out the flavour of the fish without overwhelming the dish. We hope to be back.

Always love visiting this restaurant every year of the English Riviera air show. Quality food and service every time. The cod steak is a fantastic dish. The butternut squash is great too! Don’t forget the apple crumble with brandy.

My partner and I are staying in Torquay for a few days and No7 was highly recommended to us. We were told it would be hard to get a booking as the place was normally busy but by chance we arrived and another booking hadn't shown up, straight away were greeted and seated, the place had a nice atmosphere and the staff were all attentive and professional, we had a tray of foods that are being cooked bought over to the table to show what they have and the freshness. The food was outstanding and full of flavour plus the portion sizes were perfect. We highly recommend this place to anyone interested in finding a fish restaurant as No7 is definitely a contender for the top, if not the best I've found so far.

Very nice address for those who love fish and shellfish. Varied choices of fish, perfectly cooked and dressed. Very friendly and professional welcome. I highly recommend.

Fantastic all round highly recomended

My last visit here was over 8 years ago and had a fantastic evening. Knowing we were returning to Torquay for the bank holiday break I knew I wanted to return to No 7. This time was no exception. Fantastic meal, on point friendly service and a great atmosphere which you can almost guarantee when a resturant is full. I’m sure nothing will change if it’s another 8 years before I return again.

Five of us enjoyed a wonderful lunch here yesterday. Service was friendly and efficient, even bringing the fish to the table for us to admire/choose! Food was delicious. Nothing too fancy, just letting the superb ingredients speak for themselves and no silly irrelevant garnishes, which is heartening to see these days! We look forward to returning soon. We booked a table (would recommend!) and were told we could arrive early to enjoy a drink in the upstairs bar. We did! Cosy and intimate. All staff were incredibly friendly and the food was amazing. Had scallop and mussel starters, and 2 local fresh fish catches for mains. No room for puds!

A truly outstanding seafood restaurant and I echo all the positive accolades on here from other people. Knowledgeable staff, who enhanced the dining experience with the pre-dining fish presentation and wine explanations and suggestions. I wish it was closer to where I lived. A great night, thank you.

We were so excited to come to this place reading all the reviews but the food did not raise even close to the expectations. The fish was bland, the mussels weren't great, portions rather small and the whole meal was way overpriced for what we got. The vegetables that came with the fish were just not good. Paid around 200 for 4 adults and 2 kids and this is without any wine.

Easily 4.8 stars! Monkfish tail very juicy, albeit smaller than shown on a daily catch plate; crème brûlée divine; a starter of mussels, a prawn and a scallop had a lovely sauce. Selection of wines was fine as well, notably, whites offered by glass very decent (and it turned out, any wine could be ordered by glass). Friendly folks and Soave ambiance added to the overall very good experience, if a tad pricey.

We had drinks & sampled some of the restaurant food in the wine bar & it was so good we visited every night of our stay. Robin has such incredible passion & knowledge so if you love wine like we do, prepare to love it even more! The tempura prawns are the best we've had in the world. A proper gem.

Tonight was my first time there. Not from the local area but would go back again. I'm not the biggest fan of fish restaurants but still loved the food. However, what really exceeded my expectations was the level of service. Probably the best service I've had at a restaurant. Thank you, team!

Went with Mrs G and a couple of our friends for a birthday celebration. The food was delicious, service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food served. We will definitely be revisiting.

This restaurant was my family's fave for many years and it happily continues to sail serenely on. Absolute pleasure in every respect. Recommend the whole roast gurnard if there are any about, or the lemon sole. Unadulterated pan-seared scallops divine. Superb fish cookery and an absolute delight to be served some heritage beetroot in the veg dish. You guys rock ❤️

Our first visit last night and certainly not out last. Service was impeccable, great wine selection and wonderful good. Unfortunately for us out tiny appetites meant we couldn't clear the plates and enjoy it got longer. Thank you.

Nice food, excellent service and fair prices, but I was probably expecting something better. I find the menu system a little bit confusing since you have to keep checking the blackboards around the room, which is not super comfortable.

We had a wonderful night at No7. Paul and his staff were very good. Selection of fish menus was so diverse. A great touch was the display of fish available at the start. Fully recommended.

Probably the best fish restaurant I have ever visited.

Popped in Monday night and had an amazing meal. The food was outstanding and the staff were amazing. If you're in the area, this is a must try restaurant. The selection of fresh fish is superb and the different ways it is cooked just elevates it all.

I had an excellent lunch here. Tried cuttlefish and skate for the first time and I couldn't be happier. Cooked to perfection, amazing portion sizes and excellent service. I will more than happily return here it was worth every penny.
