Crusoes Fish Bar in Torbay

I’ve had a craving for good fish and chips for a long time. My search in Torquay has been somewhat disappointing, until now! It was nice to meet polite staff at the counter, that immediately set a great vibe of what was to come. Freshly cooked fish and chips looked extremely appetising over the counter and it was great to see each fish given a quality control inspection before it was packaged. The food tasted awesome, 5* is not enough. This place is bursting with pride, the food is loved and this proactive approach sets Crusos apart from the rest.

Best fish and chips in the whole bay area in my opinion and I've tried quite a few including Drakes, Pier Point, Hanburys, Rockfish and London Fryer. They are busy and you can pick them up and drive to the seafront and still be crispy. Best for value and size of fish. The extra large haddock for £8.99 is very big and hangs over a typical plate with nice batter and the chips are big and chunky and taste clean. Just a bit too much for one. They also do kid's haddock bites that are too much for an adult and only cost a few quid, unbelievable.

Visit this chippy whenever I go to Torquay, such good value and excellent food. Visited last weekend for a show at the Princess Theatre and took my friend. She ordered cod bites and chips and still can't believe how big a portion she got. Had to get her husband to finish off at home as she was so full up. Everything is freshly cooked and the chips are proper fat chips, delicious. The staff are also very friendly.

Absolutley lovely food, great staff and amazing atmosphere throughout. Have been coming here for over a year now, replaced our local chippy. I know savaloys aren't everyones first choice, but I highly recommend them from Crusoe's and the cod..even better!

Just had a double chicken burger from here. Great pricing. Only costs 22p more than a single. Highly recommend and looking forward to the next time I come in to try something else.

Bought a large cod, was completely raw and uncooked in the middle and didn’t know how to cook myself so had to go in the bin. Fish and chips are my go to food when visiting other towns so was a pretty disappointing outcome.

Friendly staff, massive amazing fish. We have been converted from Hanbury’s now to Crusoes because of the quality, size and value for menu! Amazing!

Just wow! On holiday and visited because of the great reviews and we weren't disappointed. Order was freshly made, and tasted amazing. Portion sizes were great, almost too much because the fish was so big. No grease at all. Can't fault this place, have already recommended to family that come to Devon on holidays. Great customer service too and prices. Love that you do a meal deal, makes all the difference.

We were actually going for the Chinese. But it was closed. So we had some food from Crusoes, instead. WOW!! Real proper chips and the portion size is crazy!!! Jumbo sausage was nice and had a little tang to it which I loved. Also had some peas and curry. We came home and after eating decided to check out the FB page. Some cracking deals, think you have just got yourself a brand new regular customer.

What a shame that Crusoes had gone down hill within the last few years, the chops are like half a potato its a shame that they are like this.

Amazing fish and chips - huge! That curry sauce was so good.

I rarely eat chips as I try to watch my weight, however, when I do, I am very discerning. I always follow other reviews to shortlist the chippies I use. This is probably the best chippy in South Devon. As an example, I travelled from Dartmouth to get these chips and there is a very well-known fish and chip shop there, but Crusoes is in a different league. All cooked fresh, so a small wait may be had but it will be more than worth it when you tuck-in. Oh, and exceptionally good value as opposed to some of the rip-off prices these days.

On holiday nearby so gave it a go this evening. Delicious! HUGE fish, really nice chips. Very very good value for money. All cooked fresh. Stuffed!

This is undoubtedly the best value for money chippy in Torquay. Cod, chips and a sauce or mushy peas for £6 on a Monday and Tuesday £6!!! Fantastic food, great portions size, awesome value and all topped of with a smile and a chat. In the current climate a weekly takeaway treat which doesn't break the bank! Top guys.. (and gals)

This place was recommended by my sister. We ordered 15 mins before closing on Valentines day. They were bloody excellent. We'll definitely be returning again. (Apologies for being loud, that's just the way I talk) 👍

Saw an offer on Facebook stating either cod/haddock, chips and sauce for £6. Drove over to end up paying £23.28 ? Two regular haddock chips and a mushy peas/ curry sauce. Very disappointed they don’t honour the advertised prices via social media. Can’t fault the portion size as we couldn’t finish !

Great fish and chips, they made a special piece of cod for my mum who is dieing in hospital and doesn't have much of an appetite, my mum loved it and tried her best to eat as much as she could, so i got to finish it off and i honestly think that was the best bit of cod I have ever had...

Brilliant value, we did the Tuesday/Wednesday offer. Excellent fish, chips and peas cooked fresh while we waited. Traditional fish and chips at there very best. You wont be disappointed.

Haddock was superb, big flakes and amazing batter. Chips were just how I like them, with a generous helping of salt and vinegar. Everything cooked fresh to order as well. Got a regular size meal and it fed 2 grown men comfortably, in the current climate this was superb value for money. Will definitely be back.

Best chips, curry sauce and mushy peas I have had in ages. Kids meals really good value and great selection of really cold drinks. Service with a smile and very good value in what is now a challenging time for fish n chip shops. Would highly recommend. Worth driving to this place for great service and quality food.

Popped into Crusoes yesterday for a portion of chips on my way home and decided to try the 6 fish bites too. Wow great value for money too much for one person so shared with my other half. (should have taken a picture). Tasted fantastic too defo going to buy them again.

I can't speak for the quality of the fish, but the chips are awesome and they do vegan battered sausage, yum! Update: Still good, every time! Currently only accepting cash, worth phoning ahead with your order.

Under new ownership I think, we used to use it all the time as its very local but felt the standards had slipped in the last couple of years so started going elsewhere, revisited a few weeks ago as convenient and was really good! Glad the place is back and better than ever

Very friendly local chippy near the Willows shopping park in Torquay. Popped in for a quick chips and curry, the portion size was good and tasted very nice being cooked fresh, small car park hidden away being the Willow tree restaurant and pub.

Visited for the first time and can honestly say it’s the best fish and chips I’ve had in a very long time. That good that it’s prompted me to write a review which I never do! Hubby asked me to order large fish and chips for us both with the intention of finishing mine after his, reality was he couldn’t even finish his own! Large is humongous, not greasy, chips great, fish very tasty. Great value for money!!

Stopped by here the end of the day and could not believe how good this place was. Got great and friendly service along with fab value food. The portion size was so generous and the taste was up there as one of the best chip shop dinners we’ve had.

Coming from Yorkshire on our first holiday in ages we had to try out the local fish and chips. They did not disappoint. Lovely portion size and really tasty.

I work over at the willows and occasionally get a minute to pop out and get chips. Really friendly staff, great portion size. Happy to let me order on phone, grab a portion, pay, and run back to my store. Having a laugh while doing a good job. Good service with personality that made me want to come on here and give 5 stars. We have had the children's cod bites and chips tonight and they were delicious! The chips weren't greasy, they were fresh and loved that they were thick cut. The fish was cooked perfectly too and the portion size was really generous. I don't normally leave reviews or give feedback, but we enjoyed them so much I felt it was necessary! Thank you

Fast and fresh, chips were lovely, not anemic like some of the "more popular" chippies. Regular cod was huge. Batter not to thick, light and crisp. Good value

Good honest grub. You can only rate a place based on your last experience. Just had jumbo sausage and chips... Very nice but way to many chips. Enough for two people easily. All the food is cooked to order and not reheated..

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! I ordered 4 large cod and 2 large portions of chips over the phone at 12.00 and arranged to collect them at 12.30 The fish was overcooked or re-heated hard to say which. The chips had been yo yo dipped too many times and were virtually inedible! Not up to your usual standard Crusoes, we won't be in any hurry to rush back!

Great Traditional Chip shop, The owner and the lads that work there are brilliant, I'm a retail manager and if my team was enthusiastic as those boys I'd be so proud as an owner they are a credit to you great work ethic, The fish bites are especially amazing the food is delicious!! I havent had a takeaway for weeks because of this lock down but really fancied the fish bites tonight so thank you Ceusoes team for working and having a great system in place, so so thank full :)

I go here every Thursday evening for our weekly Cod and chips. Fish is amazing. Beautiful freshly cooked and great value. Superb chips and friendly staff. Large cod and chips for 9 pounds easily feeds 2. Best in Torbay by far
