Nowhere Man in Brighton and Hove

Nice atmosphere, delicious food, quick service and fast wifi. We only had minor complaints (most water jugs weren’t full, felt there wasn’t enough bacon on the pancakes) but overall a very nice casual breakfast café!

I decided to come here for a friends birthday and saw that on their Instagram that they are gluten free friendly. As a celiac I was excited to be able to eat pancakes out. Upon arrival I asked how they go about making sure there is no cross contamination, I was told if I’m a celiac I shouldn’t eat here as they can’t promise my food won’t be contained as it’s small kitchen. There was nothing indicating this on their Instagram or menu. If you advertise you provide gluten free food you need to highlight if it’s suitable or not for celiacs. Not just for the fads.

Had a really great coffee, and the menu has plenty of Vegan options and alternatives. Their pancakes selection looks awesome, and their bagels are great too. Really cool, relaxing little indie place - definitely worth a visit if you want a quick place to stop.

We were looking forward to visiting for brunch after seeing Nowhere Man on social media. It was a good change to try pancakes made in an independent establishment such as this one. We did have to wait a long time for seating, but once we were in we had a great table location by the window. Our dog appreciated this too! We both chose to add blueberry compote to one of the tiers of pancake options; it's such a worthwhile consideration of the business to let you have a level of freedom in customising your own meal, while also offering pancakes with particular sets of toppings. Our pancakes were delicious and the portion sizes were just right. The drinks were nice too, particularly the Biscoff/Oreo hot chocolate which was not too sickly like the ones that seem to dominate other places' offering. We will come back here in the future — maybe closer to the opening time, so that we can avoid the wait for seating. Shows that it is so popular!

This place is amazing!!! Food super! Coffee best I've had in a long time. Staff lovely and friendly! Would 10 out of 10 recommend visiting!

Visited due to good reviews, and the pancakes were tasty (a little on the pricey side perhaps - two portions of pancakes, a tea and a coffee was over £28). Good vegan and gluten free options. Let down terribly by the service. We wondered why it was taking so long to get a table. We were in a queue that was outside the front entrance. There were 3 tables free for a while, but they hadn’t been cleaned or even acknowledged by the staff for over 10 minutes (they were stood behind the counter chatting with eachother or on their phones). We eventually got seated at a dirty table, and wasn’t given menus or told how to order. When we eventually ordered at the counter, the staff were quite rude and seemed more interested in chatting with eachother rather than taking any food orders. Nobody came to check during our meal to see if our food/ drinks was ok. Disappointed by the service and very unlikely to return again.

We have been here for breakfast and the pancakes are fab! Now have had an overflowing bagel for lunch which is equally as brilliant.

Haven't had a chance to visit for a while, but I thoroughly enjoyed my return, which I celebrated with a delicious pile of soft fluffy pancakes served with crisp bacon and lashings of maple butter, and a very well-flavoured decaffeinated coffee. Still the same cosy relaxed atmosphere, staff were friendly and attentive, and I hope to visit again soon.

We were nearly put off by the reviews that mentioned slow service but am glad we weren’t. Even though it was nearly full when we visited we only had a 20 minute wait for food which I don’t consider too much. The pancakes were lovely and generously topped. Definitely recommend.

The bagels and pancakes are amazing. I dont think there's anywhere else like it in Brighton! Definitely nowhere else with bagels as good as these. Great coffee as well, it's great when someone can make a decent oat latte!!

Cannot recommend this place enough! Went for breakfast, place had a great cozy vibe to it; wasn’t super crowded like some cafes in The Lanes. The staff were so friendly and accommodating - I have to eat gluten-free so had pretty much written off the idea of having decent breakfast options but I was so pleasantly surprised when I was told that all of the pancakes could be made gluten-free! Have seen a few reviews complaining about the wait times but our food/drinks were delivered speedily. Food looked and tasted amazing - Would definitely come back if ever in Brighton again!

After leaving Nowhere Man today, I came away feeling torn. The pancakes were absolutely incredible. However, from the moment we arrived, until the moment we ate, almost an hour had gone by. We were some of the first people to arrive when it opened, but were told there would be a wait on food, which I thought was strange as we were so early. In the service was as good as the pancakes, this place would be insane. Waiting an hour for pancakes though just isn’t good enough.

Los mejores panqueques! Sin embargo, la señora que nos atendió fue extremadamente grosera y me hizo sentir muy incómoda. We went as a group of 3 and as we entered we saw the place was kinda packed but we were still able to get a decent table. Bare in mind, this cafe is tiny and you’re immediately visible to everyone as you enter. Nevertheless, the blonde waitress (who was sitting down) saw us enter but she didn’t even bother to move, to come and say hello, let us know that we can sit anywhere etc. She just didn’t care. I had to walk over to the bar and ask if it was ok to sit anywhere. We sit down at a table with dishes from the previous people - again, obvious to staff, but no one came around to clean up (blonde waitress sitting down, why didn’t you clean up instead of sitting down not caring?). I waved at her a couple of times and she ignored me. Then she nodded at me to come over. She told me she was busy making drinks. No one came over to say hi to us, to welcome us, to tell us that we had to get up and get menus ourselves. Unacceptable and completely rude - we felt very unwelcome. I ordered to this other lady who also seemed like she didn’t really care, she just wanted to get it over with. Pancakes were good, but that’s the only good thing about this place. The toilets were nasty, I mean NASTY. I’m sorry but when were they last cleaned? When the waitress came over to clean up our table from the previous dishes, she only picked up the dishes but she left all the dirty food pieces that had fallen over. We had to get a wet wipe out and clean the table ourselves. Overall, bad experience! Won’t be going there again as the service was just unacceptable! If you guys (and mainly, you blonde waitress) don’t like working there then don’t work there! Stop looking like you don’t want to be there and act more professional!

We were 5 people in total and there was one person who was sitting on his own in a 5-6 sits table. We asked the stuff if we can sit with him or transfer him to a smaller table since he was 1 and they just said with a very rude way "no he's probably waiting for friends" (btw he wasn't don't want to explain cause it takes too long) or if they give us another table and they just replied "no, sorry". We took a smaller table and they told us that they don't want us to sit there, it blocks the entrance through the kitchen. Their behaviour was ignorant we were just standing there for literally 20 minutes they didn't even come to tell us something and when i went to ask them if we can come later or make a reservation they were replying very bad. It was like they were telling us "we don't care just leave"

Just time for a quick coffee and banana cake this morning. Both very nice. There’s a small seating area out the back which was a delightful sun trap today. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Worth a visit.

The interior has a strong “worn” vibe so it might make you feel like it’s not gonna be much, but boy, the pancakes are something proper and the coffee was nice too. Bummed that they didn’t have the blueberry pancakes I came for, but even choc banana was yummy and super buttery. We played some scrabble the lent us an had a god time. Plus super cool staff! This place was recommended to me and I was really looking forward to it. The place looked quite cool but was unclean. I ordered pancakes and as I was eating, I found a long hair and pulled it out of the middle of the pancake. I told the blonde waitress that I found it (so she could inform the chef and ensure it doesn't happen again) and she looked at me blankly, said 'okay' and walked into the kitchen and stayed there until I left. I feel like an apology would have sufficed, but don't think I will be returning.

We went here for breakfast and all ordered pancakes. We were so impressed with the texture, presentation and taste. The pancakes were so light and fluffy they melt in your mouth. The prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size received. They didn’t have much seating places so go early! They also had lots of gluten and vegan alternatives.

We had orange juice, which was nice and fresh, and some coffees which were all as ordered and very good. Then the breakfast food arrived. The pancakes were large and fluffy, the bacon well cooked and crispy, the scrambled eggs were creamy and filling, and the maple butter was yummy. The bacon bagels were equally good. Good value too. Verdict: mmmmmmm nice.

Looked on Google last night thinking we fancied American pancakes for breakfast and where good in Brighton. This came up and sounded perfect and it was. Well worth moving away from all the eaterys in the Lanes. Had to be a good sign hearing Crosby, Stills &Nash; playing at 9.20am! My husband ordered pancakes with bacon, scrambled egg & maple butter, I had banana, walnut, bacon & maple butter. SO DELICIOUS. We travel to Brighton once a year so this will be part of our annual pilgrimage with pleasure.

My girlfriend and I had spotted nowhere man on Instagram and had been planning our visit for a couple of weeks when we had a free Saturday. Yesterday, after looking up the closing time which is advertised everywhere online as 5:30, we did some shopping in town and arrived at nowhere man at 3:50. We walked in and sat down and the waitress looked at us but said nothing about ordering etc. After sitting there for a few minutes wondering where the menus were, I stood up to ask the waitress and stood by the counter waiting for her to return from the kitchen. After a few minutes she emerged and I asked for a menu and she said "kitchen closes at 4". I said oh but you don't close until half 5? She reiterated that the kitchen closed at 4. I pointed out that it wasn't yet 4 and she stated that it would be in a few minutes. We grabbed our coats, left and went elsewhere.

Great spot for a hot drink and bagel. Staff really friendly and lovely feel to the place. Wish I was hungrier as the pancakes looked delicious. Next time!

Such potential and obviously has done well because it has a great rating on trip advisor, however...the place is dirty, whilst I understand a bit eclectic and boho chic, this place needs a clean. There is dirt under the chairs most of which are rickety or ripped. There were 3 of us a toddler and a baby and we were staying in dean street so this place was very close. It reminded me of a youth club that only had friends who worked together rather than professional staff, I think the tattoo place downstairs is interesting but it means that the staff from there are up and down, chilling and chatting with the staff upstairs. The woman behind the counter clearly did not want to be there and made that very obvious during our service. The fact that the chef is outside chatting it smoking most of the time did not help either! The food however amazing and the pancakes were great value and fantastic quality. Such a shame, could be so much more, feels like the owner had lost their way!!!

Wir waren auf Empfehlung unserer mitreisenden Tochter im Nowhere Man, an einem Freitag um halb 11 Anfang Oktober. Aufgefallen ist zunächst der unkonventionelle Charakter des Lokals, herrlich! Wegen des noch sehr warmen Wetters konnten wir im kleinen Hof sitzen. Unsere bestellten Pancakes wurden uns direkt aus dem Küchenfenster herausgereicht. Wir waren uns einig, nie und nirgends leckerere Pancakes gegessen zu haben. Die waren richtig gut. Der Kaffee hat uns auch geschmeckt. Wir fanden das Personal nett. Wohl keine ausgebildeten Kellner, aber alles einfach und ehrlich. Eine „Erfahrung“. Uns hat’s Freude bereitet und wir würden wiederkommen.

Mysigt café med väldigt goda pannkakor. Personalen var dock inte särskilt trevliga. Jag fick mina pannkakor 30 minuter före resten av mitt sällskap på grund av strul med beställningarna. Mina vänner fick vänta över en timme innan de fick sina pannkakor. Ingen i personalen bad om ursäkt eller ville hjälpa oss.

Absolute gem of a place for pancakes and coffee. Nowhereman is original and has a great menu which by all accounts, is extremely reasonable. We ordered the Nowhereman Supreme Bagel which was delicious and the blueberry pancakes which, again, was great.

My son requested pancakes for his 3rd birthday breakfast as we were visiting Brighton we found nowhere man online. We ordered 3 lots of vegan pancakes and drinks. Food and drinks came out quickly, especially as it was a Saturday, food was really good and good size portions. Service was friendly and laid back and the decor was cool and retro. Reasonably priced especially for the location. My son was very happy with his choice!

My boyfriend and I came to Brighton for a three day trip and both being big foodies we researched all of our food places in advanced before arriving! This place was one of the first on our list and we were definitely not disappointed. It is a little setback from the main busy streets of Brighton and it also didn't look too busy when we arrived (around 12pm on Monday) but we went in anyway and we were so glad we did. My boyfriend ordered the chocolate and banana pancakes, which although he couldn't finish as they were a little sickly, were so tasty! I ordered the bacon and maple syrup pancakes I genuinely think they are the best pancakes I have ever eaten!! We were both super hungry when we arrived so we ordered the halloumi and falafel bagel as well (eyes bigger than our bellies as we ended up taking this away with us to eat later!) and it was absolutely delicious. Really good value for money as well coming to about £20 for a drink each, two huge stacks of pancakes and a bagel to take away. The staff were also really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere in the cafe was very comfortable and relaxed. We will definitely be returning here on our next visit to Brighton!

After watching Eat your heart out with Nick Helm, Nowhere Man has been on my hit-list for a while now. Although Nick informed me of this eclectic pancake making paradise what he didn't tell me about was the great ascent you will have to endure to get there. Brighton is notoriously on the hilly side, however, encroaching on this hill with an already hungry belly meant I couldn't wait to get my lips round some good old breakfast classics. From one hill to a Lauryn Hill, my favourite singer was belting out a tune from her 'Miseducation' album, over the speakers, as we enter the petite cafe. From the bright yellow and red, eye catching facade the inside is littered with mismatch furniture, hanging plants and vintage horror posters. The mismatched furniture consisted of one green and two brown squidgy chesterfield style sofas opposed with the quirky use of aeroplane chairs. Space buns, doc martens, beanies and cactus print shirts were among my fellow cafe diners type of attire adding to the casual hipster vibes. Orders were taken at the counter with a display of doughnuts tempting me with their sweet smell and glistening sheen. Milkshakes which are one of my favourite things and most perfect hangover cures weren't being sold the day of my visit, however, unperturbed due to the promise of pancakes we both opted for 'Intermediate pancakes' and a simple latte. On returning to my seat I spotted that situated underneath this cosy and chilled cafe is a tattoo parlour. My husband being a tattoo addict suggested that we spontaneously get matching tattoos of a stack of three pancakes to signify the celebration of our third wedding anniversary and as a memory of our visit. Initially I laughed and thought what a cute idea, however, as the two sugars in my latte finally wore off, I came to my senses. A thankful distraction from the thought of being branded with a breakfast, came from the pancakes arrival. The fluffy, medium thick mountain of three pancakes came with a sprinkling of a powdery snow like icing sugar top. Woven between the pancakes were shards of crisp rashers of bacon and a side pot of maple syrup butter (I do like to do my own pouring). The pancakes and maple butter were gone in flash with the maple butter running out just ahead of me finishing my pancakes. Although there is always the option of requesting more maple butter, the British side of me never likes to impose. In regards to the general portion size, however, and in the words of De la Soul, three is the magic number. Apart from a wobbly table and a mother ingrained notion that chips on plates harbour germs, I can appreciate the cafe's rustic charm and the relaxed vibe is carried through to an outdoor courtyard with an honest viewing window of the kitchen. Once our breakfast was complete and it was sadly time to leave the sadness was soon overtaken with the happy thought that hiking up the hill means 'what goes up must come down' and I will now be able to roll down the hill.

I have been in this place many times. I'm always really happy about their food. Pancakes are really nice, the sauce is delicious! Nice coffee and really nice location. Workers are not the most friendly in the world, but fair enough!

I spent my Birthday in Brighton and we walked here the morning after. It was a bit of a walk up the hill but totally worth it! Cured our hangovers with a coffee and pancakes, I had the vegan blueberry ones and they were AMAZING. My partner had the new york bagel and said it was really good. Nice chilled vibe here. They seem to have a garden out the back but didn't have time to look. Would definitely go back!

Very small and quant, this place is very Brighton and ran that way too.

Having religiously planned exactly where I wanted to go to make my overnight trip enjoyable, I was es expecting most places to live up to their hyped reviews.

A wonderful range of pancakes, and a few bagels for those who do not want the treat of a fluffy stack of greatness.

I’ve been wanting to go to Nowhere Man since moving to Brighton 2 years ago; I finally made it this weekend and it was worth the wait! The pancakes are some of the best I’ve ever had; deliciously tasty, fluffy and clearly freshly made. I had the blueberry ones and loved them!

Visited with my husband after seeing this place on telly. Bit off the beaten track but worth the walk for a good breakfast. Decent stack of fluffy pancakes, nice thick well cooked bacon and maple butter is a revelation. Husband had the blueberry compote as well which was yummy. Highly recommend it.

Been here a few times, will keep coming back as the atmosphere is great and chilled out, the pancakes are delicious! Sometimes the service is a bit lacklustre, often have run out of things that you just think - really? There are few, albeit very good, menu options so once when they ran out of bagels I was confused.
