I foolishly assumed that this place would be mediocre and overpriced based on its location. But actually it was really nice, £11.50 for a margarita pizza and it was great. Nice tea and coffee too. The cakes looked great but didn’t sample any

Leuke buurt. Tien punten.

First time at Noto - we had dinner during the busy Edinburgh fringe, for a friends birthday. I had mentioned this within my booking, and the team could not have done more to make the evening more special, including a very sweet personalised note awaiting us at our table, and a lovely selection of small sweet treats at the end (as we had no room for dessert!) Our server Julia was warm and friendly, and talked us through the whole menu, made recommendations, and encouraged us to try a something new (in this case the Peach and Ricotta Salad). She also recommended the perfect wine for our dinner, that was both delicious and very reasonably priced. Our food runner Gia went through every dish as it arrived, detailing all the different flavours and ingredients, and checking up on our water and drinks as needed. Even though they were busy, we could see that all servers really made time for their tables, offering advice on the menu, as well as Fringe shows they had seen. The quality of food was superb, and very reasonably priced. A clear contender for my meal of the year so far!

This os one of the best coffee shops on the area, with proper hot strong coffee and a nice selection of pastries, especoaly the apple tart or the pear and almond one. The pizzas are very much in the traditional style so not swimming in tomato sauce. The lasagne is thick and solid. If you prefer the runnier style it mite not be for you but I prefer the firmer style, but it is personel choice. The staff are friendly and it can be busy at lunch, but its a place we like.

Meh. That was the best way to describe our experience. It took almost 2 hours to get to the (sort of) end of our meal (we ended up cancelling the lamb as we couldn't wait any longer). Definitely agree with the other 2 &3 star reviews. Was super (super!!!) excited to eat here, however nothing overly stood out about this establishment. Even the presentation wasn't that wonderful and I forgot to take photographs. We tried the northern Atlantic crab (the best dish of the lot), vegetable tempura, tuna with yuzu, gnocchi, coffee Korean chicken and monkfish. As mentioned, we didn't quite make it to the lamb as the lunch service wasn't great -- finally got to the monkfish and it was lukewarm and rubbery, so we cancelled the lamb as we were a bit fatigued. The Korean chicken was lovely and unique with the bitter flavours and daikon, as well as the home made kimchee. The gnocchi was buttery and fluffy. However most of the dishes seemed over buttered (or over oily with the tempura) and excessively salty. All in all a big disappointment after booking this months ago. :(

The food absolutely awful! The salad had oil and nothing else on it, greens were slimy! Second plate chicken with mushroom sauce was over cooked & the sauce had an absolutely awful taste. Ordered a Margherita pizza. The sauce had no flavor or tang… It was like they open a can of bland unseasoned tomato sauce & smeared it on the crust. The green tea was bitter and awful! My friend ordered a cannoli which was uneatable! Felt like we paid to eat garbage!

We visited for a girls' lunch at the weekend. The dishes were delicious and unique. It was a small menu but easy to find something you like. I would recommend the crab and the steak tartare. It felt quite fish heavy, but were told by friends that it changes regularly. We had 3 dishes each, which was definitely enough and quite filling. The design is minimalist and modern. The food is certainly the star of the show. We also had some cocktails, alcoholic and not, these were lovely but certainly on the small side. The food here is Off The Chart Good, but that's only half the reason you should go if you haven't already. The other half is just how amazing the service is. I've been dining here for years now (including my last meal out before lockdown!) and have never had a lacklustre dish or less than attentive service. I also can't believe I've never written a review so hopefully this is better late than never! The menu is seasonal except for the north sea crab in warm butter, which is for me the absolute star of their menu and too good to rotate out, They also say its for sharing but trust me, you won't want to... If you ever want a pick me up, take yourself here. You will not be disappointed, and you might just find yourself a new fave in Edinburgh which given how spoilt we are for restaurants is really saying something.

Stumbled across Noto when looking for lunch and what a find! Sharing plate style, with a limited but interesting menu, strongly biased towards seafood. 4 to 6 plates between a couple is a good call. Every one we tried was exceptional, particularly the crab and croquettes - absolutely first class with really intense flavours. But save a little room for dessert - 2 choices and I’m glad we tried them both. Superb! Definitely be back here again. Decent selection of wine by the glass, also very good.

but that's a pretty relative assessment, isn't it? The concept of ordering small to medium-sized dishes depending on your appetite allows you to stop in good time if you're not satisfied without wasting a lot of money. The okonomiyaki was delicious, the sushi variant with deep-fried seaweed inspiring, but the two medium-sized "main courses" were unfortunately mediocre (the fish was swimming in butter sauce and the lamp should probably have been preserved with plenty of salt). At least it has potential compared to all the other bad Scottish restaurants during our trip. Acceptable value for money.

I was bummed we wasted our breakfast on this place. The reviews drew us in saying breakfast was amazing. It wasn’t. Average at best. It was your typical sausage and ham on a bun or eggo waffle. Fine but nothing to brag about if you want a delicious meal. The guy was actually pretty cold and rude the entire time. We walked in, said good morning, we asked if there was room for two and the place was pretty empty, he said you can sit anywhere, so we said ok, then he said you can sit at any SMALL table. I have been a couple of times since my last review, with average performances by the cuisine. The menu is original and full blast fusion as always, but I found some dishes a little heavy, such as a rather greasy tempura, and others not so special, like the fried buttermilk chicken with kimchi and (almost undetectable) coffee. I'm considering that the price and the small portions should be justified by exceptional flavours. In the end, the only dish that sticks in the memory as impressive is a simple but interesting opener of seaweed brioche, whipped tofu and chilli. I hope that they put the yakitori back on the menu as that's a dish I really liked in the past. Service was very friendly, the seating is comfortable with ample space between the tables, the decor is classy.

We booked for a 40th Anniversary celebration and were left extremely disappointed, the only acknowledgement was a completely disengaged bit of paper put down without anything said with the bill saying "Happy Anniversary" kind of made us think really ?? why bother even asking is it was a celebration dinner on the booking form when none of the staff say anything to you at all when they knew ?. Everything felt very flat, the staffing felt odd like they didn't know what level of formality or friendliness to show and in the end just came over as robotic and uninterested in every part of the service. The food itself was good but nothing startling with the standards that Edinburgh now provides. We are going to look at another celebration dinner now somewhere else.

I was really looking forward to Noto as the menu looks amazing and my wife had an earlier great experience. I was a bit underwhelmed, overall. We were warmly greeted by the staff on arrival, felt very welcoming. It's a really nice white washed bar space you walk into. Going into the dining room is a similar decor with the whitewashed walls having the barest of vine decor. It feels really comforting for some reason, which I liked. The staff were first class. Super attentive, and very knowledgeable about the dishes and drinks. A nice glass of orange wine and a cocktail were quickly brought out to get us started. Perusing the lovely sounding menu got us to the position of ordering seven dishes to be delivered in a tapas-esque format. The first dish of brioche with both butter and a whipped tofu chilli dip was delicious. Would of been happy just scoffing more of this all night! I was really looking forward to the crab as a seafood fan. It is more of a melted butter dip than crab. The smal bit of crab is completely overwhelmed by the quantity of butter. Works well as a dip for the nice sourdough, so maybe it needs to have the description changed to be more accurate about what arrives. The fried buttermilk chicken was nice and crispy, but the kimchi didn't pack enough zing to freshen it up. The tempura vegetables were really well done. Cooked perfectly, however veg is usually a lighter/fresher choice and the deepfrying obviously negated that quality of the veg. A citrussy dip might have been good? The duck bao was nice enough, but a lack of sauce inside made the meat feel a bit dry, and not loads of flavour. The arbroath smokie croquettes were delicious and very rich. The sesame seeds complimented them well. Maybe 6 was too many given the richness? The last course was a big chunk of beef rib. Deeply dark meat, and with a very rich gravy. Again, the dish was very rich and heavy, with nothing to freshen it up. It did exactly what you expect of beef rib, but nothing more which might raise the meal up a level. The main problem for me is that none of the dishes had any freshening ingredient or acidity. It just felt very heavy without an element to cleanse your palate or cut the richness. Undoubtedly excellent quality, I could only suggest a lighter touch with the cooking. Hats off the the FOH staff, they were wonderful.

This restaurant deserves more attention! This was our first meal upon arriving in Edinburgh. Portions were perfect and they were absolutely incredible. Amazing service, made to feel extremely welcome and the service was very fast. Would highly recommend and would absolutely eat here again.

For a birthday occasion, myself and my wife headed for dinner to Noto, Edinburgh, (talented chef Stuart Ralston's second restaurant - he also has the city's Aizle, Tipo and now Lyla), billed as an intimate dining experience with small plates to share. Noto, incidentally, gets its name from New York eccentric Bob Noto, whom Ralston used to live with. I confess we knew nothing of Ralston's reputation, until after we had eaten - but the former protégé of Gordon Ramsey is now a successful businessman in his own right, employing more than 100 people in the UK hospitality trade. Something to be encouraged. All that aside, Noto's décor is white walls, minimalist, but with warm lighting which lifts a slightly stark ambience. You enter into the welcoming bar area (where you can opt to sit and eat), but we booked a table in the larger dining area. Service was excellent, with coats (worn against the chilly Edinburgh January) taken, and choice of water enquired after, immediately. For a drop of the harder stuff, we were recommended the fabulous Bandol rose (£16.50 p/g). To eat, we each went with the seaweed brioche, whipped tofu and chilli for openers - lovely, and the whipped tofu was an utter triumph, and as advertised; light and airy, with a good dose of chilli heat. Superb. This was followed by market vegetable tempura, with togarashi seasoning - delicious, not over-battered. Arbroath smokie croquettes, with katsuobushi flakes, which were moreish, seeming to disappear from my plate rather too quickly! After a short hiatus, the potato udon, with enoki mushroom and egg yolk arrived - it was a little flat on the flavours, and together with the moist textures just did not seem to gel. It was the one missed note from the food, that evening. The confit halibut, winter squash and nori was, however, good. Finally, desserts (pictured) of Yorkshire rhubarb with hibiscus meringue - flavoursome enough, but thrown thoroughly into the shade by our other choice of chocolate, miso and hazelnut - an absolute must, which was very much enjoyed. Overall, well recommended. PS - Noto also does a lunchtime service.

Food is very tasty as we had a variety of dishes with the beef a stand out for me with the crispy chicken with kimchi a standout for my partner. Unfortunately just another overpriced Edinburgh restaurant in my view with no wine list on line...

Muy inusual estilo de tomar té por la tarde, pero lo disfrutamos todos el mismo! Un total idea mágica para recorrer los principales lugares de interés de Edimburgo desde la comodidad de un asiento con té y tarta y una copa de Prosecco! !

Seats about 50 in here. Very good steaks and well cooked. Nice char marks from the grill. Can't fault the entree. I would have liked to have a choice of salad dressings with my salad, so i just asked for a mayonnaise. Chips were great. Crispy and fluffy! Baked potatoes were pre-cooked, so the skin was a bit chewy.
