Lukas service was 10/10. Would highly recommend this restaurant for a boozy brunch! Lukas was happy to swap some cocktails out for us on the menu as one of our party wasn’t a fan of tequila. He was very attentive and helpful. The food and drinks were great, I had the chicken tacos which were brilliant and generous portion!! Would return time and time again x

Fish dish dried out, I sent it back (no problems there) and was given a freshly cooked fish . My friend had a steak and chips, which she said was delicious. Staff pleasant.

We had such a great time! My friend & I had booked another restaurant for lunch & we cancelled & came to bar & block instead and so glad we did! The food was very tasty and well presented and the drinks were great! We had brilliant service from our waiter Lucasz who was consistent with checking in on us and looked after us very well, he was great! We had the best time and would definitely come back!

Ribeye steak tasteless and tough! Expensive for what you get, ribeye was not cooked rare as I had asked it was a medium. Pepper sauce you pay £2 for a tiny little milk jug of pepper sauce! (Costa give you a bigger jug for the milk with your tea than this pepper sauce) Staff were fantastic and very friendly I love my steaks so I probably won't go again.

Stayed in attached hotel but spent more time in bar + block. Service was great, on the ball and looked after us on 5 different visits over the weekend. 1st visit was for just drinks, good choice available and bar staff were happy and friendly. 2nd visit was for evening meal, i had a lovely tasting burger etc, the other 3 in our party enjoyed their meals and left clean plates. 3rd visit was for breakfast, great choice again, fresh fruit, hot cooked and a variety of drinks. 4th visit was for a family meet up, we reserved a table for just drinks but spent a couple of hours there. Looked after by the friendly waiting staff. 5th visit was for breakfast again, which set us up for the day. Our weekend stay in Edinburgh was help to be made memorable by bar + block, thank you, we will be back.

A recent visit was disappointing. The food is nothing special and to charge £25.50 + £2 for a small steak and peppercorn sauce is ridiculous. There is no attempt at presentation even some greenery on the plate would help make the dish look a bit better. Steaks were tasty but had a lot of fat , chips nothing special and served in dish with large chip on rim, peppercorn sauce very thin and runny. Wine advertised on menu as 12.5% but actually only 10.5% so really need to change this on menu. Waitress was very nice and attentive so thank you. Better steaks to be had at places like Indigo Yard and The Black Ivy for not much more money. Have a look at the photos from Black Ivy to see difference.

We were served by Ola and she was super friendly, very nice and even tried to say a few words in Portuguese. We loved the restaurant.

Rude staff… food is terrible the meat was overcooked leaving it tasting plane and dry, If you cant grill a simple burger patty dont call yourself a steak house.

My family and I had breakfast whilst visiting Edinburgh for the day. Great choice of food and drink and really friendly staff, catering for the allergies that we highlighted. Really good and A+++ service.

I went here yesterday for a nice meal with my friend, once seated we sat and chatted and didn't even open the drink menu. Our waiter for the night asked us what we wanted to drink, my friend ordered and I said I wasn't sure yet and that I'm not having alcohol. The waiter proceeded to ask me why I'm not drinking alcohol, which I think was completely inappropriate due to the plethora of personal reasons it could have possibly been. I brushed it off and said because I don't want to as quite frankly it's none of his business. He then suggested a drink, a popstar martini and listed all the ingredients in it except the alcohol. Bearing in mind I hadn't looked at the drink menu so I didn't know this was just a regular cocktail. I said okay to the drink order because as far as both me and my friend heard, it didn't contain alcohol. He then comes back to the table with two glasses of prosecco which we never asked for. I thought this was weird as he clearly acknowledged I wasn't drinking. Then he brought our drinks over and I was sipping it and I made my friend try it as I was convinced it had alcohol in it. She then asked the waiter what was in the drink and he said vodka in the list of other ingredients. I was trying to replay back the conversation to see if I had missed anything. But both my friend and I cannot recall him ever saying the drink he suggested had alcohol in it when he listed the ingredients. My friend then drank the rest of the drink and I ordered a soft bottled drink as I had lost any trust in this waiter. After that moment the waiter kept his interactions very short and blunt whereas before he seemed to linger and flirt hence the complimentary prosecco he brought us. The food was delicious but unfortunately one person let down my experience. I just don't understand why someone wouldn't respect my choice of having a non alcoholic drink after very clearly acknowledging I had said that by asking why. It's wildly unprofessional and it was really frustrating. It was one of your tall male waiters working dinner on Sunday the 16th of February. I'm sure he knows exactly who he is.

Roast chicken was not roast it was grilled and I would not have ordered it if I had known - I tasted it and had to leave it! The service from the waiter was excellent - he did pass on my complaint to the kitchen. Also the on childrens menu it says pancakes but I got one single pancake.

Well, it's on the main avenue. A great place, super good service and they adapt to your language perfectly, and even with basic English they also understand you, the girl who served us is called Ola, she is Polish, and she is excellent... 😉, price quality, well, it is expensive, but well, the quality shows, everything is very good...desserts of 10.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Bar+Block Steakhouse. I thought this was a hotel restaurant but it certainly can stand on its own. The quality of the food was very good. I tried the Steak Sampler, which included 3 different types of steak. Each cut was very tasty and well prepared. The atmosphere was also very nice and the staff was very friendly. I will go back for sure and I would recommend this to anyone looking to have some good steak.

Booked this for my Nanas birthday looked decent and we as a family aren’t complainers but my god, went for 6:45 ordered food and drinks which came fast for the drinks and starter then had to wait an hour and a half for our main before we ended up cancelling the order and paying for what we ate, wouldn’t recommend service if awful and staff were not nice. (Thursday Night)

The staff are rude and have no respect for disabled people while dinning there a man ask to use toilet and made it clear he had medical issues they didn't care ruined my experience and won't be back

the Manager doesn't know how to be a manager, there were 25 of us, he asks to pay a single account, he doesn't accept separate accounts and therefore according to him it's normal for someone to have to pay more than £400 by card and then bend over backwards to get the percentage from the other diners...

Nice restaurant. It was almost empty when we dined. The staff were nice. The steak was good. We had the fillet steak.

Great wee bar with views of the castle & princess Street. Cocktails are lovely 😍 aperol spritz, espresso martini & the new frozen xmas one was delicious too.

It was Christmas so very very busy. Only alliwed a 2 hrs slot. Hopefully not the case now that Christmas is over

We had buffet breakfast on our first day in Edinburgh as this was just next to our hotel. Typical Scottish breakfast. Since we arrived when they are almost closing time for the buffet we were not charged full price.

Akways a fantastic restaurant at the west end of princes street and the festive boozy brunch as a great price which includes a starter, main and 4 drinks of bubbles, beer etc and just over £30 per person, we had chicken wings then sirloin steak and each dish was cooked to perfection and delicious and staff and management were as always fantastic Highly recommended

The atmosphere is very nice. The open buffet breakfast was really attentive and delicious. The prices are also quite affordable.

As always exceptional customer service from Amos who always goes above and beyond to make customers feel welcomed. Amos has to be the most friendly and welcoming waiter in the UK, always happy to meet you and offer any advice needed. With it being Christmas time it was extremely busy and all employees were extremely busy. We had the ribeye steak which was perfectly done and chips and sauce to accompany it. My only criticism of Bar and Block is that they could do with a few more different choices of steak sauces. Well done guys and thank you.

Not a pleasant experience. Out with friends for a Christmas Day out. We chose the festival menu which was pre ordered . Main meal came before any drinks. Not asked if we would like a starter or sides. Waiters were buzzing past and wouldn’t make eye contact in case we asked for anything. And I did leave hungry as you can imagine the portion. Defo will give this a miss in the future and will not recommend

Served by Peter. Seated quickly and politely by a waiter who is well versed in the contents of the menu and gave great recommendations on the items, servings and drinks pairings. Food was cooked as ordered and delivered prompt. No photos possible as it looked too good to wait! Highly recommend.

For a steakhouse their steaks aren't very good. They have no flavour and aren't seasoned well at all. Very poor quality meat.

Went to Bar +Block for my Daughter’s 17th birthday meal. Such a lovely experience and great atmosphere. Food Delicious and service very quick. At the end of the meal they gave my daughter a lovely surprise of a box of chocolates and a note saying happy birthday….thank you all you made her night. Would definitely recommend to anyone to go here for a meal. Thanks so much bar+block☺️

The ambience and mood are really good and pleasant. Everything tasted good too. In our case, the service was unstructured and we had to wait forever for our orders to be taken. For the prices quoted, the experience was rather mediocre. I can still recommend it, as the day's form may not have been right today.

Went for breakfast this morning. Secice and atmosphere were great and restaurant was clean and organised. The breakfast buffet was tasty but the food was not hot, infact it was barley luke warm. Perhaps lids on the dishes would help to keep the food hotter?

Peter was an amazing server asking if we were okay the whole time. Food was unreal - will come back here when we come back to Edinburgh.

This was my first trip to Edinburgh and we decided to go and dine here as the restaurant looked quite welcoming from the outside. Well, it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very relaxed, we came in on Monday evening and there were not too many people. The food was absolutely delicious and everyone who served us made the experience memorable in the best way possible. Our main server for this evening was Marta K and she was very professional and kind, kept checking in on us and made our experience very comfortable. We are planning on visiting Edinburgh next year as well and this will be one of the first places we will visit again. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Very normal food for the price and the fame it has. The attention of the waiter who touched us, well, without further ado, nothing to highlight. The person who greets you at the entrance is very nice and helpful.

We have walked past this place many times and tried it for the first time yesterday as it was a convenient place to stop for lunch. We were glad we did. Very family friendly with an excellent kids menu (possibly one of the best I've seen) which is important to us right now with 2 young kids. Food and service were both very good. Also added bonus of being good value for money. Will definitely be back and recommend to others too.

Everything about our visit was great, the service from Peter was spot on, the food was delicious and the cherry soft drink i had was amazing. If it wasn't our last night in Edinburgh I would have happily gone the next day and had the same again! Well done team bar and block, wish we had one in Lancashire.

We were in Edinburgh for a few nights, and I thought we would try this place as it was near the Christmas market and looked nice from outside. Our waiter was friendly, although one of the questions we were asked as we tried to get a table was whether we were staying in the hotel. Whilst I understand they might want to prioritise guests of the hotel, the location itself is on one of the busiest shopping streets in Edinburgh, therefore you would expect common sense to prevail and conclude its first come first served in that location? That said, Premier Inn now seem intent on shutting down restaurants to focus on rooms, so maybe this place is next… Regardless we were seated, and it didn’t look too busy. Drinks came fairly quickly, but it felt like a long wait for the food. I had a rump steak; I ordered it medium, but if anything I think the cut was too thick as it meant the outside was how I would like it but the middle was bloody. At £28 for just the steak (accompaniments were charged separately) it seemed quite steep. The chips were definitely the highlight! My wife had a cheese burger, but she found it a bit dry. What also surprised me was the available options - while the 3 course set menu was advertised with quite a few options, the “standard” menu seemed a bit lacking, particularly for deserts. On the whole it was an average dinner, but not something I would rave about. I would probably have chosen somewhere else

Positives: - The atmosphere is lively and the restaurant aesthetic is well-designed. - Restaurant staff were accommodating Cons: -The taste and presentation of their steak is pathetic. I'd visited previously and didn't have a great experience, but given the great reviews I thought I'd give it another shot. I'd requested medium-rare steak and was given medium. - Portion size didn't seem to be as advertised and we still left the restaurant hungry. - Poor selection of wines for a steakhouse - we could only order Cabernet Sauvignon by the bottle?!? I would expect this pairing to be the most common. - Asparagus (not pictured) was cold and soggy, and didn't arrive with the rest of the meal. - Affogato was also underwhelming. Terrible experience. Avoid!
