Went for a late lunch/early dinner whilst we were on a day trip to Edinburgh. Situated right on Princes Street, this place was a gem to find, good value tasty food served by friendly and helpful staff, and it was reasonably priced too. If you're looking for somewhere that won't break the bank, with good food, nice decor and good service, look no further.

We had the boozy brunch, great value for money. Our waitress Ola was great, I had the fish tacos and they were perfect. Will definitely go back.

I wanted to start by saying that the food is consistently amazing, and this was our second visit. The atmosphere remains great, and the meal itself was enjoyable. However, we did encounter some issues with the service this time around. While the initial service was okay, we had to make an effort to get someone's attention for drink top-ups, and later on, we waited about 25 minutes just to receive the bill. It wasn’t particularly busy compared to our first visit, so we felt the staff could have been more attentive. We hope this can be addressed, as we enjoy dining at your restaurant and would love to come back for another visit.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant, primarily due to the shockingly poor service from one of the waiters. We dined here as part of a meal deal offered through our stay at the connected hotel, but our evening was ruined by the way we were treated. From the start, we had to wait an hour just to get our drinks, despite informing the waiter that we were ready to order. Instead of attending to us, the waiter deliberately served other tables while ignoring us (it wasn’t even busy). When we raised this issue, the waiter responded with sarcasm and rudeness. We were seated near the kitchen and noticed our food sitting out for 15 minutes (deliberately left by the waiter). When it finally arrived, it was cold. We brought this up, and instead of addressing the issue, the waiter stormed out of the restaurant. This particular waiter’s behavior was entirely unprofessional, and they clearly should not be working in this role. The other waiters seemed friendly and attentive to their customers, but unfortunately, we were stuck with this person, which completely ruined our final night in Edinburgh. Thankfully, the manager recognised the poor service and took over, doing their best to make things right. However, by then the damage was done. Unfortunately, we paid up front from our hotel, otherwise I’d left the restaurant before the drinks arrived. I strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant and spending your money elsewhere. Terrible experience overall!

Me and my partner love steak and come across the restaurant and hands down its best steak house/restaurant we have ever been to 10 out of 10 highly recommend amazing friendly staff and well the food is just perfect.

Service, food, and drinks are top notch. We both had the strawberry margarita. The BBQ wings were done perfectly, as well as the fish and chips and chimichurri steak. Definitely try the Mac and cheese balls.

Great food and drinks! I got the house salad with steak. House dressing was great because it was just enough to give it flavor without drenching the lettuce. Husband got the short rib burger. He's a big fan of the smoker and said short ribs are hard to get right but said the burger was perfect!

Myself and my partner stopped by here for a late evening bite to eat and were treated to a great selection of small plates and drinks, all with fantastic service from our host Amos who was an absolute delight.

Lovely atmosphere, the steak was lovely. The decor and lighting made it look a lovely cosy restaurant.

We went here as a family to celebrate 20 years of marriage and I wish we'd gone somewhere else. The place was busy - usually a good sign, but when the food arrived (30 mins after we'd ordered it) I was really disappointed in the small portion size. We had luckily ordered extra onion rings, but those were eaten quickly. My wife's burger was dry, mine was OK but nothing special, but I honestly hate nearly finishing a meal before starting to feel full. I don't know if the were short staffed, but service was very slow and when we left, after paying a LOT for not much, I could even bring myself to leave a tip. I ALWAYS tip, but I couldn't justify it. The food was nothing special, service was slow and the manner of one of our eaiters was reminiscent of Basil Fawlty! We will not be back.

I knew the service was always slow but my friend ordered fish and chips and what arrived was a huge block of batter with a scraping of fish inside, offered another which we refused and ordered a chicken salad instead. 20 mins later decided to cancel that order but was told it was just coming!!! Not interested in feedback and comment was, well we changed it to a salad. I won't be going again.

Very underwhelming steak, some how made a perfectly cook steak taste burnt / unseasoned. Service was really good and regarding the drinks they do give a generous amount in regards to restaurant standards which is a good thing.

We wilde een stukje vlees eten, gisteren was Vega en nu iets met vlees. In de hoofdstraat van Edinburgh kwamen we dit restaurant tegen. Echt zalig gegeten. Vlees was precies goed gebakken, de champignons waren heerlijk van smaak, de friet was een beetje droog, maar prima van smaak. Het toetje was weer verrukkelijk,karamel cheesecake aux banaan, deze was ECHT héérlijk. Zaten helemaal vol. En het personeel, ze waren onderbezet, maar bediende iedereen met een glimlach en op tijd. Geweldig team, bedankt voor deze ervaring.

An amazing meal , and our server, Amos, Was fantastic. Would travel all the way from Devon again just to go there!!

Me and my partner visited for a birthday meal on 21/9/24 and we were so happy we chose this restaurant to celebrate at. The price was great for everything we ordered, Everything was perfectly cooked by the chefs and the cocktails were amazing. Peter, our waiter made the whole night amazing. Very attentive, professional and a big smile that made the night that much more special. We got given a lovely birthday dessert plate and as we were leaving a little present from the restaurant. We will definitely be back. Such a fabulous experience. Thankyou!

I ordered salad with chicken and their chicken was very bad smell and I said their manager and he said we are steakhouse and our oven suitable for beef

Lovely spacious restaurant. Great location on Princes Street. Great selection of food. Excellent and friendy service.

The wait staff were lovely, especially when I asked for my steak to be recooked as it was well done not medium rare. However for me, the food was not worth the price… paying 6 pounds for 2 scallops in the topper was definitely not worth it.

Piotr was fantastic- had great recommendations for wine to go with our tasty dinner! Checked up on us through our date night! Ended the night with some tasty churros!

Excellent steaks and very attentive service!

Lovely service, really nice ambience, great menu and everything looked wonderful but the food was a total let down. The steak very underwhelming and not seasoned. The small plates had no real flavor, the veggies on the side were just bland boiled asparagus and broccoli stems, the only thing with flavor was the sausages platter and the mushrooms and yes I must say the sauces saved the day on it all.. would I go back again nah never as there are so many other places and for much better prices in Edinburgh for a great steak.. would I recommend also a big NO. And this is my opinion

Food was pretty good though steak I had seemed to be completely unseasoned which was a little weird. Cooked well and was tender. Quite expensive for what you get in my opinion.

We are visiting Edinburgh from the States and love this place. The service wasn’t the best we had to walk over to the bar to place our order. Maybe it’s because there were only two employees (a hostess and a server) when we arrived. The place was very clean and modern and nicely decorated.

The food was really nice and the steaks cooked exactly how we liked. Good selection of drinks as well.

I think tourists saw us and tried to overcharge us. After arguing with them, they settled the account. The prices are not clear and the food is not very good. The staff was friendly.

Disappointing food. We asked for medium well steaks and they came out like well done. And the surfaces are overcooked, very bitter. Doesn’t worth £80 at all.

Took the fish, it was ok, not particularly flavoursome and portion sizes were a bit on the small size, but we had a 50% voucher - TBF if we didn't, I'd have been fuming. Would recommend going off the beaten track for a better, more reasonable experience in Edinburgh.

We first went here for dinner, but the food was so good that we returned the next day for lunch. The service was pleasant and the food was really good. We didn't have to wait long for the food. It's really worth going here. You also have a "deal" where you buy 3 meals or 5 and get it cheaper. I really recommend it.

Ordered medium rare and got well done

Not everything was great, but I still give it five stars. Super great atmosphere, really inviting. Then our waitress, named Ola, was just super nice and friendly, thank you. Meat quality is excellent... Then came the problem with the fillets, which were grilled for too long (unfortunately not medium well, but well done). We pointed it out, it was replaced, but the pieces of meat were again on the grill for too long. Ola reported it further, then a gentleman appeared at the table and said that these two menus are not charged, wow! Ok, mistakes can happen, but then this solution to the problem, chapeau!

4 of us ate here on Saturday 17th August before we went to the Edinburgh Tattoo and I've got to say we simply couldn't have picked better, the food was absolutely lush and the place itself was spotlessly clean. Our waiter "Amos" was top drawer, polite, efficient & perfect for the job as he chatted to us throughout the evening. A 10/10 experience that we would highly recommend 👌.

A beautiful atmosphere with very friendly and courteous staff. Unfortunately our meat wasn't brought as ordered (medium well), but a new piece of meat was brought in a few minutes without any problem. Extremely accommodating - we were not charged for this meat. I'd be happy to come again at any time 🫶🏼

Went on a very busy Saturday afternoon. It was mega busy with a few large party's (one particularly rowdy group of women). The staff were so busy but still had time to be lovely and the service was great. Dessert took a while and they came with apologies and took it off the bill. Recommend - will definitely be back.

Marta, or Martha? our waitress, was great until we had an issue and put the barriers up immediately. Starters were great but the main... wanted it cooked medium but came well done and chargrilled burnt on the edges..offered to speak to the 'chef' (perhaps he was going to uncook it!) ... A chef would have known the difference in the first place. Clearly whoever did this doesn't know what they are doing. Shame really, nice place, great location and reasonably priced. Would I go back? Not a chance with so many alternatives around I'll take my money elsewhere.

A dunk. Prices are not included in the menu. We ordered 3 small medium rare steaks, which in the end were not a steak, but a piece of grilled beef. They brought 2 very rare. They charge you 4 pounds for the sauce separately, which is very bad, at least for the mushroom one, and also a separate salad, small and practically lettuce, another 4 pounds. 2 adults and a girl. 3 small pieces of meat with potatoes, 1 mini salad, 2 soft drinks, 2 maritime sauces, 108 pounds, €132. Expensive for the food it is and the quality it has. Additionally, when you pay, they ask you to rate the service and set the tip you want to leave. The impression I had is that they try to hit you with everything they can and more. The soft drinks were Sprite, yes 7 pounds for 2.

Very nice and welcoming place, excellent quality food and above all the waitress who served us, whose name unfortunately I don't have, I only know that she is Polish. Ordered off the lunch menu. One steak was much larger than the other. Spoke to staff, referred to management who continued to make excuses. We simply wanted to highlight the issue. Nothing else. We were offered a further meal, we declined as we did not want to waste food. So. Another meal arrives and goes to waste. “Customer first” is simply not listened to.

Stayed on business at the adjoining hotel where they offer a very reasonable meal deal (2 course evening meal with a drink and breakfast). The restaurant is fresh and modern. Set out well. Meet and greet manager very pleasant, quick and easy to table. Simple but good choice of food. You may have to wait more than five minutes for it to be cooked and served but that’s because it’s cooked fresh! All the staff lovely (with everyone). It gets 5 stars from me!!

Thank God our waiter was 100% on it, polite, friendly. I'd booked for a birthday meal, and we waited over an hour to get our food. we got our table at 730 but got food at 9pm. It was busy when we arrived but when we ordered it had slowed down. We all ordered steaks, which were ok - for the price I'd expected better and at least a few more prawns for £6! (Must be Edinburgh prices) Sadly, I didn't photograph and of the meals, too hungry to think of that. But 10/10 for table service from Peter. Thanks for being kind to my lad by giving him chocolates. Peter made the night.

It was a good idea to have gone to this restaurant. Mighty burger and the tasty Angus one. Very well served by the waiter Amos, a charm.

This is an honest review, The staff are so nice and attentive. I was using my Tastecard which entitled us to 25% off the total bill. We ordered 3 starters @(£17)and a steak sharing experience ( 2ribeye steaks) @(£90) The steaks and the starters all came out together ,The bill came to £107 with an £8 discount ! after i questioned the bill the manager came over and eventually got the bill to £65. The Bar and Block is definitely no better than a Witherspoon's

Tonight, my husband and My Grandson went to eat some dinner the dinner toke a while to come I got the cheeseburger it was not bad but my grandson had a bacon cheeseburger he thinks it's good my husband got the mighty block Burger he thinks it was nice, the bathrooms are nice I would go back to this restaurant It was Lovely dinner Tonight's rating it's a 9/10 Thanks bar + Block for tonight's dinner

If you’re looking for a place to have a steak in Edinbuegh - Bar&Block is the place where you should definitely go! Amazing food, atmosphere and service on the top of it given to us by Lucas! He will give you recommendations and make sure everything is perfect and on time! We will come back here!

Nice enough place, excellent service. The food is overpriced, tiny portions and lacking anywhere near enough pizzazz to be charging what they do. I ordered the steak selection which came with a small handful of ordinary chips and my steak was overdone and burnt ( I ordered medium). Not even a small garnish on the plate. I ate the food but commented on the burnt steak and they did discount the bill a little. The staff were very good, I have no complaints there however I won't be going back.

Really good Sunday roast, the meat had a fire flavour. Plus perfectly cooked scallops starter and super friendly service. It's a pity we didn't have time to try their steaks for dinner during our short stay.

This dining experience at barblock was very disappointing. First of all, the waiting time between the appetiser and the main course was too long, and I waited for a long time to check out. The appetiser BBQ chicken wings taste like sweet and sour chicken wings, and are too sour. The medium-cooked steak we ordered was burnt, and the taste was bitter and completely unacceptable, from the tip of the tongue to the root of the tongue. In addition, the hygiene of the restaurant is also very poor, and there is no one to flush the toilet. When we asked for a refund of the steak fee, we only got a five-pound discount, which was equivalent to deducting the cost of the soda drink. I also feel stomach discomfort after the meal. Generally speaking, I don't recommend this restaurant.

Spent 4 nights in Edinburgh I the premier inn nextdoor to Bar and Block! And of the 4 nights we ate here 3 of them. Food is the best around and the staff are very friendly, attentive and nothing is to much trouble, Amos our waiter was so lovely, took time to speak with us and make sure we were ok. What an asset to this company. If we are ever in Edinburgh again we will make sure we pop in.

We went looking for a good steak which we did get but perhaps not everything else was quite as good. The staff were very pleasant and food came quickly. My starter was onion bhajis which were huge but sadly were rock hard and difficult to cut outside and mushy inside. Probably making them smaller would solve the problem. My husband had loaded fries with his steak main, which were just fries with a sauce on them which seemed like a mixture of brown sauce and ketchup on them. Ok from a chip van but not at restaurant prices. I had sauce with my steak which tasted the same and my husband also had a very bland and tasteless peppercorn sauce. There was no garnish whatsoever so the presentation wasn't great. I know the style is meant to be minimal but you have to make it look inviting Steak was well cooked and tasty but the rest was a bit disappointing sadly.

Food is pricey but not pleasant to eat. Ordered a ribeye in medium, came too raw and sent back to the kitchen. When it came back the outside was so charred that it was all black and tasted bitter. It is inexcusable for a steakhouse to get the cooking of a steak wrong. The menu also said the Ribeye is marbled with fat but mine is quite lean. Paid more than £30 you wouldn’t expect to get a steak like this. Will never go back.

Food was cold sat on in kitchen for 15min as we could see it. Steak wasn't nice only chips with it not much taste. Worst meal we had in Edinburgh

The man who received us and took our order was very patient and the service was good. The food tasted good and the price was reasonable. When we were checking out, we walked to the door with our credit card in hand. Another man came and said unhappily that there was no card machine at the door, and asked us to go to the middle to check out. Maybe he thought we were trying to sneak away without paying. This man He had a bad attitude and didn't show us the details. He said the checkout amount was 73 pounds. I thought the amount was strange and I asked to see the details. The actual amount should be 60 pounds. We also thought he was deliberately making things difficult for us!

Get your overdraft ready...... £7.50 a pint. Steaks £35 plus.... thats without chips, lol. Waiter massively unfriendly.... felt very uncomfortable and decided not to eat and just have drinks. Were then told to move tables even though the restaurant was empty....and I'm not surprised it was empty.

I rarely give a bad review but my experience at Bar + Block Edinburgh was so extremely disappointing, it calls for it. We ordered the £13.95 lunch specials but the thin piece of steak that was served was so overcooked & tasteless and the Chargrilled Seabass fillet was tiny, stale and overcooked till the fish was rubbery and barely edible, along with the pita bread that was stale & hard. To add to the already poor mains that were served to us, the customer service from our waiter Callum was poor. When we were ready to pay the bill, he came, told us to follow the instructions on the machine, left the credit card machine on our table and just walked off, leaving us to do our own payment on the credit card machine ourselves with the amount of receipts flowing out from the machine. I was quite shocked that a waiter would do that. While the ambience of the restaurant was nice, sadly the food and customer service was really lacking. I hope this restaurant will have better chefs and provide more training for their wait staff for the longevity of the business.

My friends and I had a very poor experience at Bar + Block Steakhouse in Edinburgh. Upon entering as a group of six, we were greeted by an extremely rude waiter who looked visibly rushed off his feet. He immediately informed us that he was working alone and wouldn’t be able to cater to our group size of six. After a couple of minutes of flustering and explaining why we couldn't be served, he oddly went to ask the kitchen if we could have a seat. We waited almost 10 minutes for him to return, but he never did. It was a very negative experience overall. I would advise avoiding peak times to prevent encountering overworked staff members who might be snappy and unhelpful. Definitely not the service we expected.

Service was great, Ordered 3 Starters which was a good versatile option, Squid and Mac and Cheese Bites were good quality. Unfortunately the Asian Beef came out ice cold and the atmosphere was ruined by an out of control couple sitting behind us, One was swinging its arm about and making contact with our seating. Ruined the night a little bit.

Came here for dinner the other night. Me and my friend ordered some drinks to start with then we started with the sharing plates which are great value for money. We both ordered steak, unfortunately when I got my steak and ate into it, it was cold. It took forever to get some of the staff attention to complain. They offered to cook me another steak however my friend was half way through hers. It was really disappointing. I will never return.

We ate here on our last evening in Edinburgh. The staff were very friendly. Unfortunately the degree of doneness was mixed up for us, I wanted medium and my friend wanted medium rare and mine was rather rare and hers was medium. We ordered different pieces of meat and then swapped. Of course that shouldn't happen. Of course it was still delicious. The ambience was very nice and clean.

We took advantage of the lunch offer and were very satisfied. Here you can get a selection of two courses for just under 13 GBP, which is really cheap in Edinburgh. The toilets don't match the chic ambience in the restaurant and the quality of the food was slightly lower, but anything but bad. Overall we would definitely come back.

Had a lovely time here. The food was delicious and the service and atmosphere were good. I have already recommended it to friends. I will definitely return when next in Edinburgh.

Went for an early breakfast. Had made reservation, but didn't need it. The gentleman at the front desk was very nice. Good buffet breakfast with lots of choices and coffee station. Quick walk from Grassmarket area if looking for a good breakfast. Would definitely go back.

Came over spontaneously and wanted to go out for something to eat. The employee who brought us to the table was not very accommodating or friendly. However, we were then served by another employee, whereupon we ordered the drinks (which we waited 15 minutes for). The food was brought out very quickly and it tasted excellent!

The food was really good - fresh and delicious. My Dad said it was the best sirloin steak he’d had. We will definitely be returning.

Great steak surf and turf actually

This must be one of Edinburgh top restaurant. Service was very good so we don't mind adding to the final bill. We ordered steak.. Ribeye, sirloin and mixed. All very nicely done. The baked potato was fantastic though a little burnt. We were actually very full but the waitress strongly recommended the chocolate cake dessert.. So we ordered and added a tiramisu.. Delicious. Bar and Block is a must go if you're in Edinburgh.
