Went for the Eat out Edinburgh offer. Service was friendly. Food was delicious.

The restaurant atmosphere is very nice, lovely small tables for couples and larger booths and tables for families. Staff were friendly and attentive, service was timed well. Our starters (burrata and beef empanadas) and mains (sirloin and beef burger) were tasty, but the dessert (brownie) was ok. The brownie was dry, and the white chocolate ice cream didn't really go well with the brownie.

What a lovely and posh spot! Been there first time and so happy with the food and service. Wonderful and cozy space. Big choice of wine , and cocktails. Nice set means for lunch 3 course for 25 pounds included a steak ! 🥩 Highly recommend and for sure will be back soon. Thank you

I tried this restaurant with two of my friends for lunch. We managed to find a table without a reservation. The location is very nice, a little dark, the food is good and the service is excellent.

Gaucho Edinburgh, located on St Andrew’s Square, offers a stylish yet somewhat inconsistent dining experience. Bookable via the fork and opentable. The bar on the top floor sets the scene for pre-dinner drinks, while the lower ground floor houses the main restaurant. The dark interior, featuring wood-like tree effects, semi-circular booths, and plenty of mirrors, creates a moody, intimate setting. However, some details—like crumbs on the moleskin-style seats and the noticeable jolt when a neighboring table moves—detract from the polished atmosphere. On a Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm, the restaurant was fairly busy, with a lively atmosphere amplified by dance music and the general hum of conversation. The low lighting, mainly from candles, adds to the ambiance, though it may not be ideal for those who prefer a brighter setting. The food was a mixed bag. The 225g rump steak, ordered rare, leaned more toward medium rare. The chimichurri sauce was underwhelming, more of an oily dressing with little depth. On the other hand, the chips were excellent, though the mashed potatoes were forgettable. As for drinks, the strawberry negroni missed the mark—it lacked the signature bitterness and balance of a classic negroni. Wine prices were steep, with a threefold markup even on the cheapest bottles. Service was acceptable, though nothing particularly stood out. A 12.5% service charge is automatically added to the bill. Overall, Gaucho Edinburgh delivers on atmosphere and presentation but falls short in execution, especially given the premium pricing. While some dishes shine, others don’t quite meet expectations, making it a decent but not exceptional choice for steak lovers.

Visited to celebrate my friends 40th birthday. The staff here really make the experience! They were all so attentive, knowledgeable and kind. Our waiter Andrea was just excellent. He was funny & looked after us well. Steak tartare was lovely, a really nice firecracker sauce with it that had a lovely zing. We had fillet & rib eye. They were cooked perfectly with a really nice sear on the outside. I needed to add salt so for me it was a tad under seasoned but that could just be my preference. Sides were great but again need a touch more salt. I will definitely visit again, thank you for a great night Gaucho!

Had a great first experience at Gaucho. Food was superb and the service was even better. Special mention to our Server, Ibra. He was incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to give us a 5 star service.

The best steak! Everything from start to finish was perfect - food, drinks and service all 10/10 and the staff really make you feel special no matter the occasion. We had bread and fizz to start (the Argentinian fizz was delicious) and between our group we had a selection of starters: ceviche, wagyu empanadas (to die for!) and the salmon tacos were highlights. We had a mix of Sunday roasts and steaks but my lomo fillet was undoubtedly the best steak I’ve ever had, and the peppercorn sauce - SO good! Plenty of steak choices and sizes depending on your price range, plus they all come with a side and chimichurri sauce. We had some cocktails too that were all really good and shared a couple of dulce de leche cheesecakes which just finished the meal off perfectly. Not too heavy but equally delicious as the rest of the meal! Special shout out to our server, Craig, who really made the experience for us all. Already planning our next visit!

The staff and service were amazing here. The food was unreal, had the wagyu empanada which was so flavourful. For main the Ribeye is literally the best steak I've had! The dessert and drinks both also top notch. Couldn't recommend it more.

Booked for the pre-theatre menu at 5.30pm as we were seeing a show at the playhouse at 7.30pm. Service was very slow. Starters took 45 minutes to be served, with very little explanation as to why there was a significant wait and then took ages to clear. Main meals were served at 6.40pm and we needed to leave at 7pm. As they cleared the mains we asked to cancel the desserts we had ordered as we had to leave due to needing to be at the theatre. We were offered a takeaway but this was obviously not an option and asked for the bill. They then tried to charge us for the desserts we had not eaten and added a 12.5% service charge for an extremely poor service. We asked for this to be rectified which then took an age and offered absolutely no apology. Food was very nice but the poor service massively let down our evening.

As someone who travels frequently and has had the opportunity to experience a wide variety of cuisines, I was thoroughly disappointed with my visit to Gaucho in Edinburgh. My visit was unplanned, and I stumbled upon the restaurant while walking through the city center. The sign outside advertised two- and three-course meal offers, but upon entering, I was informed that these menus were unavailable, leaving only the main menu—something that felt misleading from the start. The food itself was an absolute letdown. The portions were meager, and the dishes lacked any sides what is wird.  My sea bass was oversalted to the point of being inedible, and  a bizarre, fried salad that did not complement the dish at all. Additionally, the chicken wings we ordered were burnt, making them unpleasant to eat. What made matters worse was the price. For two main courses and a couple of drinks, the bill came to an outrageous £120. Given the quality and portion sizes, this felt like a complete rip-off. I regret not taking photos of dishes before the bill arrived because this experience was truly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Apart from the restaurant’s extravagant and pompous decor, there is nothing here worth the money. Gaucho Edinburgh is, in my opinion, an overpriced tourist trap that I would strongly advise others to avoid.

Perfect night, great food! Words can not describe how wonderful it was.

I came here for the second time last Saturday with 11 other people for a staff night out in the private room. We had the best time, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was great and most importantly the service was amazing. Ibrahim looked after us and explained all the options as well as recommending lovely wine and helping me choose a dessert, he was excellent. I’ll be back and would recommend Gaucho Edinburgh to anyone. Thanks again

I was there last night, January 18, 2025, with my wife for dinner after 9 pm (something difficult in Edinburgh) and we had a great time. It is my fourth experience at Gaucho in Edinburgh and I always manage to leave very satisfied. Sara, a Spanish woman from "Mar y Tierra" attended to us. She is a mix of Tenerife and Cádiz. He was exceptional at responding to requests for recommendations for wines and cuts of meat. Gaucho is worth what you pay for and that is why I always recommend it to my clients (I work in tourism in Scotland). So if you are looking for quality, attention and great atmosphere, this is the place. The other thing is to go to a Macdonald.

Went here for my 23rd birthday dinner and I could not fault it! Greeted at the door and shown to our table, and Craig our waiter was so attentive and friendly and made our experience a 10/10! We ordered the burgers (classic and wagyu) and the mac and cheese, and I can safely say they were the best burgers we have ever had. Absolutely delicious, the drinks were lovely and the chocolate torte for dessert was so so tasty, I would go back in a heartbeat! Very happy with the overall experience.

We had a very pleasant evening except for how dark the place is. A little more light would be appreciated. Service of a very good level, the same as the food, the quality and care in its preparation could be seen, although at a somewhat excessive price.

I was very happy with the food at Gaucho. I had the Sirloin and it was very tasty. Our server, Andrea, was fantastic. He was very attentive and made dining at Gaucho a very pleasant experience.

- Given the night of new year I got seated closed to a table with two dogs which given the circumstances and price I did not find it adequate - On the dessert menu part there was a dessert that was not available - I ordered a seabass that was not cleaned given that presented multiple fish bones all over creating a bad eating experience - Service was nice, the waiter was helpful and friendly (only positive note)

The ambiance and service at this restaurant were impeccable. I have nothing negative to say about the staff—the server was incredibly kind, attentive, and very helpful. However, we opted for the Christmas menu, and the food was disappointing. For starters, we had carpaccio, which was decent. For the main course, I had the turkey, which I found quite unappetizing. My boyfriend chose the chorizo steak, but he found it bland and poorly marinated. The dessert was the biggest letdown for us. I had a brownie, and I must say, it was the most unappealing brownie I’ve ever tasted. To make matters worse, the price was very, very expensive. We paid around €220, including wine, which felt completely unjustified for the quality of the food.

When we arrived, the person at reception didn't want to be there, without a smile and spread out on his chair. BUT once you get down all the servers were adorable and nice. Beautiful decoration. The food was excellent, the price was very reasonable for the meat served as well as the wines.

Came for Christmas lunch, loved their set menu. Great wine & the whisky was good and cheap! Hope to come back for their proper menu.

Incredible experience from start to finish. Most definitely one if the best steaks I’ve had to date. Craig was a delight, made the whole experience so so special. We were celebrating a graduation and he went above and beyond to make us feel special. Wonderful atmosphere and worth the money spent for sure!

Sadly no idea if the food is good or not- we had high hopes for this place for my daughters 21st. Having been largely ignored we were kept waiting for well over half an hour past the booking time with no real explanation. We left. Nobody cared. We were also promised a glass of bubbles as a good will gesture that we didn't get.

Not bad, but the Glasgow one is much better. Either the food, atmosphere and service. The food was good but not great... The atmosphere was very noisy, the tables are very close one of the other and that made me not feel privacy at all during the dinner, at the same time everyone was talking very loudly because the music, apart from not being appropriate for a restaurant, was turned up too loud... I won't be back again... Thanks

Dinner at Gaucho, famous for their steak and the protein was well seared and cooked to my expectations (medium rare), this was better than the steak at Tollhouse, very flavourful. Starters were better too, with delicious and crunchy prawn. The place is suitable for couple/dating, dark and cosy setting with a good glass of mocktails. However, service at Tollhouse was much better, more intimate and friendly.

Came for my 21st birthday dinner with family and it was amazing!! The staff were all amazing, especially our server. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. There are a decent amount of food options and the portion sizes are good too. It is a little more on pricey side but matches the vibe of the restaurant.

Literally the best experience in Edinburgh for fine & dine! Right in the centre with great ambience and service. Alessio was amazing, he knew the menu very well, recommended the best dishes and cocktails. Omg, I have never had such great cocktails tbh! Steak and cheese balls are to die for. Staff have excellent knowledge about all the types of steak you can choose from. If you don’t fancy steak plenty of other choices! Wine menu is excellent and something for every pallet. Atmosphere is really nice too as you are one level below on the basement.

Nice staff, but the food was really average and the state of the place is pretty shabby - ripped carpets, scuffed walls. For steak or meat-heavy places, Edinburgh has far better options. For the price, this was a huge let down.

Food was perfect and delicious, but the care from our waitress Monica was just magnificent. She was just a delight, extremely worried about my allergies, and always communicating with me and the chef, who would modify something to fit my needs. Although it's a steak house and I'm not a steak fan, I decided to have 3 starters for dinner. (Best decision ever). Had the seabass ceviche to start, and the steak tartare + provoleta as main course. Everything was superb. The only downsides were the tiny bit too loud party music in the background l and the "nightclub-like" toilet, with strong urine scent on the corridors.

Went for dinner food was really good, however, was told we had to be out by 8:45 due to a private function, we booked our table at 7:15 but weren’t sat until 7:30. We ordered our food and starters came quickly but didn’t receive our mains until 8:30 giving us only 15 minutes to eat our mains meaning we couldn’t finish our own meal as they cleared our table before we finished. We also couldn’t have a look at the desert menu due to us being rushed out. We also had to pay while we were eating our mains.

We booked the steaks and cocktail with mates deal at £65 per head No one to greet us coming in and put to the most awkward table in a corner and asked to be moved Waiting staff lovely We had a very nice starter full of flavours with a lovely cocktail but then the meal went downhill The sharing steak platter was not bad enough to send back but cold, chewy and very gristly The cocktails were awful and we left them The toilets weren’t clean and no toilet paper The bill was wrong and had to be amended There was no atmosphere and none of the food or cocktails were explained. Definitely would not return

Het was een zeer rustige avond en toch moesten we erg lang wachten voordat we ons eten konden bestellen. Ook kwam de rondlopende bediening erg gehaast over (bij ons aan tafel was dat iets minder gelukkig, maar echt welkom voelden we ons er niet door). De prijzen zijn hier hoog maar dat weet je van tevoren. De hoeveelheid die je hiervoor krijgt is echter teleurstellend. Ik zou hier niet naartoe terug gaan en het ook niet aanraden, alleen als je geld teveel hebt want de smaak is dan wel weer prima.

Beautiful restaurant we really enjoyed it to celebrate our anniversary, they gave us a lovely card which we really appreciated, Ibram our server was exceptional and incredibly knowledgeable he made our time there really special.

We went to Gaucho for a birthday meal & were really let down. The steak was very tough, overcooked, and more grey than pink. There was no flavour to it whatsoever, & it was really bland. The sides were equally disappointing. The mash was hard & lumpy, & the chips tasted like they had been sitting around for a while. The drinks were also a letdown; we got a Kiwi Breeze, which is probably the worst drink I’ve ever tasted. To top it off, our server then shoved the card machine in our face without saying a word whilst we were still eating our dessert. Very unprofessional & rude. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone; there’s far better options out there.

Everything we ordered is out of this world. Salmon tartare tacos and the Chargrilled baby gem Caesar are amazing. The way they prepared the steak, Churrasco De Lomo, is now my favorite. Our waiter is exceptional. Only wished the restaurant wasn’t so hot. I could not enjoy my overall dining experience because I was sweating so much.

Select location, very nicely appointed room, excellent cuisine with original and refined recipes. But quite expensive and quite frustrating to have to pay £6.50 for a mini portion of green salad to accompany the salmon.

Pros: seated quickly, appetizers (scallops, tacos and olives) were sensational, strawberry hanky panky was tasty, atmosphere is loud and hip. Cons: room was too warm,music too loud, drinks took 30 minutes + to get, we never got a salad we ordered, several drinks were sold out, food service took 45 minutes +, main course of steak had nothing but meat on the plate and tasted very ordinary, main course of fish also too simple in presentation and flavor, bill took a very long time to receive.

First time at Gaucho having been recommended by a family member who went to London Bridge. I was immediately disappointed with the welcome, where we were asked to take a seat and wait in the bar area for our table. Thought we would have a pre dinner cocktail but were offered nothing. Instead a party of 6 men having arrived drunk last minute from the local football match took preference. We were called to our table 10 mins later and the atmosphere of the restaurant was extremely loud and brash. Our waiter was lovely and reasonably attentive but clearly rushed off his feet. Not what I was expecting at all. No table cloths and gouges out of the table. Not up market dining considering it was £185 for 2 people no starters or puds just mains and a bottle of wine!! Will not be returning ever.

Simply amazing food, cooked to perfection. Best place I've dined for this year. Were surprised by a free birthday cake too! The lightning was a bit low though, reading the menu was a challenge for this geezer

Hands down the best dinning experience I’ve ever had. The service was exceptional, I could not fault the attentiveness of the staff. They are extremely knowledgeable and we were instantly made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The environment itself was great, the table setting was extremely comfortable and the style of seating felt like you had your own little private area. The food was incredible, my steak was cooked to perfection and the side dishes were delicious. The cocktails were fantastic and Craig did an excellent job in recommending which ones he thought we would enjoy the most. I can’t recommend this place enough. Will be back in a heartbeat.

Very good staff attention. We hadn't spoken English in a long time and the waitress immediately had an Italian waiter who spoke Spanish serve us. He recommended us and helped us at all times. All the material served on a top quality table and treated with great care. Fast and attentive service to our needs at all times. Cozy and quiet place. Decorated with care. We already knew Gaucho in London and we have come to the conclusion that it will be a restaurant that we will go to when we are traveling to make it more pleasant.

I had THE BEST experience at Gaucho this Saturday. We arrived a little early but they were more than happy to seat us upon arrival. Following on from that the service was impeccable from the very start, they were very attentive throughout our visit. I particularly liked being shown the steak options, as someone who doesn't often have steak it was great to have Craig explain all the cuts and how they are best cooked. The food itself was delicious, I can't fault a single thing.. simply perfection! And to top it off, the cocktails were gorgeous. The watermelon spritz was exceptionally good (and dangerously yummy). I would definitely recommend Gaucho and can't wait to return.

World Class restaurant. Great service, from the lady at the reception desk upstairs to the lady serving our table. Excellent service. The food was well up there in quality in every way. Perfectly made, nice and hot when it arrived and all pur dishes arrived at the correct time. I ordered two starters as a main. The white wine very good. An all round great experience. I’ll be back.

Our son got us a voucher for my husbands birthday for a 3 course dinner with Prosecco, so we reserved a table and went today. We were given menus and we ordered a bottle of wine at £50. When we explained we had a voucher our menus were quickly taken away and replaced with a card menu with a very limited choice. The prawn starter was below average, the very small sirloin was ok, but nothing special, and the chips were obviously frozen. A tiny portion of sauce and no vegetables at all. Dessert was chocolate brownie (dry) and ice cream. We ordered a bottle of water of which we had a glass each. We were charged £80 at the end of what was to be honest below average food. The wine was £50 so I’m guessing we were charged £30 for 2 glasses of water. Diabolical! Would not recommend and will not be back.

The restaurant is downstairs and elegant but with a nice romantic ambiance. The seabass ceviche was devine. Flank steak salad (though ordered medium came out tender and slightly overdone. It didn't have the bold flavors. Mac n cheese truffle was yummy. The cookie dough dessert with vanilla ice cream was made to order and served hot ooeg gooey in mini cast iron for 2. Lovely dinner.

Truly an impeccable culinary experience. I visited Scotland for the first time and came here to celebrate my birthday. From the atmosphere to the food I was impressed. The service was wonderful, the servers were all so kind and helpful. If you have the chance you absolutely must try Gaucho.

The restaurant we visited during the company trip is very nice and stylish, the location is very central, it is walking distance from our hotel, it is a great convenience, the starters were delicious but the meat was excellent, we ate more and more, we regretted it when we got up, but thank you, everything was perfect, the employees were friendly, happy, the service was nice, fast, everything was nice 👏👏

Great venue. Beautifully done. Wonderful service. Worst steaks I have ever eaten. We had the sampler. Most expensive on the menu. From first bite absolutely COLD. Terrible. Zero warmth. None! I never send food back so we ate cold left over steak. A total waste of money and time. If I come back to Edinburgh I will stay as far away from this place as I can except to perhaps have a drink. Those were great. I simply cannot tell you what a grave disappointment this was. There was a huge group of obviously more important people than is in thier “wine room” and they got all the attention and I am guessing all the properly warm steaks. Ours were terrible. Sad since it is a very warm space. Good servers. Nice drinks. Terrible food. I have a group of 37 here and send many to Edinburgh. They will not have this on our list again

Very classy location in the basement. Service was very friendly and the food was delicious. But it's too expensive for a family and you should know beforehand that a tip of 12.5% ​​is automatically added, which is a hefty extra amount given the high prices.

I have given 2 stars for 2 reasons, the “mocktail” was out of a can that was just brought to the table, a can you can buy for £1.20 online and then charged £6.50 for ? I would have thought they could have made their own Mocktails on site than this to be frank lazy and overpriced option and secondly the toilets were absolutely filthy and actually stinking, beautifully fitted out toilets, no hand towels, no toilet roll, floor under the urinal absolutely soaking in piss, sinks with overflowing bins and water again overflowing on top of all the counters. If I had gone to the gents pre eating I would have actually left. This was excused by “we were very busy” somewhere of this quality should have the toilets checked, cleaned and restocked every 30 minutes. Not only a health hazard but also a slip hazard. My job is building management/health and safety and I just found this part completely unacceptable.
