The Gardeners Breakfast are really good value, but on our last couple of visits we've had to send the breakfasts back as half the food was cold (beans and mushrooms in particular). We like visiting this garden centre and often use the restaurant. We haven't ever had problems with service (although the younger members of staff look half asleep). The food we find is usually hot and good quality. The past 3 times we have been I have ended up with a basil oil dressing on my plate. With tuna mayo jacket potato, ham egg and chips! And this morning with my poached eggs on ciabatta. None of those meals call for basil oil and it's such a strong flavour it completely over powers the food. I asked if there was a comment card or feedback form but nobody seemed to know. Disappointing, if we visit again I shall be requesting NO oil whatever it is I order.

Weird service area. Took two drinks from the fridge that the girl on the checkout then took out into the kitchen to change for cold ones! As if that doesn’t slow the checkout down she then has to take your food order and punch it into the till and then make any teas or coffees. What a strange system causing unnecessary delays. We ordered sausage ciabattas and chips which took a long time to arrive and when they did the ciabattas not only looked like baguette’s they were really dried up with no butter in them and the onion relish was cold in a pot rather than how it sounded hot in the ciabatta. Not very good value for money and not something I would recommend and won’t be repeating anytime soon.

I am reluctant to give poor reviews particularly with this place because it is a nice place to take my elderly mother and has always been ok in the past. I do though feel obliged to warn people about the cod and chips I had yesterday. The restaurant was as usual crowded and with a warning that meals would take 30 minutes to be delivered. The food turned up impressively in about 10 minutes. When I tried the fish, it was strangely rubbery with a very rubbery bit down the middle of the fish. It also smelt off, so I took it back and they brought another one. Unfortunately, that was not much better. I suspected it either wasn’t cod or was off and wrote the chef a note to that effect. However, after doing a bit of research it may just be it had been over-cooked or reheated. Whatever, coming from Hastings I eat a lot of cod and chips and this is the worst I can ever remember and won’t be repeating the experience until someone can reassure me it won’t happen again.

A lovely cafe: attractive decor with lots of seating, friendly staff, excellent coffee & a good selection of cakes and mains. It also has a very good and reasonably priced gift shop/area, and an excellent customer loyalty card which is worth buying if you are going to go more than a couple of times. Even going once a month, it's been worth getting. (For £10 a year it gives you 10% off everything in-store, 2 x free teas/coffee per month, and 3 x 2for1 on meals.)

The special sandwiches are very nice . Newyork deli came with very nice toasted sour dough bread and a nice portion of salad leaves on the side . Never been disappointed with the food . My belief is you get what you pay for . If you want cheap as in cheap bread and filling then don't eat in the kitchen and go to subway for a soggy bread and not nice fillings

I love the garden centre and visit often but the restaurant is very expensive! It's over £3 for a slice of cake! Don't get me wrong the food is lovely and it is homemade but the prices put me off stopping here every time I go to get garden bits.

Was looking forward to a treat but breakfast was very average indeed - all seemed to be defrosted and the bacon nearly raw and fatty - think I'd make much better myself. The queuing system, of lack of, still irritates me as they open a new till and call people over who have not been patiently waiting.Have to say I still struggle to barge my way to the front as many others do but will practise and try to forget my manners. They were understaffed last time but this time think disorganised. Beautiful set up although can get quite noisy.

Great place if your hungry as the portion sizes are big! I find the ordering selection a bit all over the place but its not a big deal you just have to get used to it. Sounds simple but true - I had the best ever mint tea the other day. A machine mushed & crushed fresh leaves - must say I was very impressed with the outcome.. We went on a rainy day but still extremely busy. Plenty of seating in and outside. Friendly staff - one I noticed looked after a baby in a pram whilst mum and a toddler went to the loo. We had salmon salad - great! followed by a date slice I would die for. It was fantastic!
