I had a lovely visit to North’s with family visiting from Australia. Many people had recommended North’s to me and I finally visited. The hot chocolates, coffees and soft drinks were lovely and the staff were friendly. I felt that the seating was a bit limited but I loved the tables in the windows. I will try and sit there next time! The cafe was light and airy and in a great location in the town. I would like to return to try the food another time.

Had a tuna panini which was actually was edible apart from the massive chunks of raw onion which were a bit OTT. My wife had a half size club sandwich which was OK but needed toasting more and had far too much mayo, coffees were fine. Most of the menu however was hugely confusing combos which were not deli like at all, the owner is clearly trying to be quirky. Frustrating as this place could be the best in town with a little makeover and a more traditional offering such as a well made croque monsieur. Who really wants cheddar cheese and pepperoni??? If you must do a pizza panini at least use mozzarella or gouda with a fresh tomato sauce.

Really good deli and café with lovely staff. I reviewed with 5 stars a year or so ago but felt compelled to re-review (I go regularly) after reading a recent review posted a few weeks ago. Norths has a food hygiene rating of 5, this is posted online and on the door. I have also never heard of them selling pizza paninis or cheddar cheese and pepperoni. I think the place is a real asset to the town and it's important to support our local independent businesses. The food is excellent, the service is even better, and the deli options are delicious.

Very average. Meant to be a deli but more interested in those sat down than others walking through the door. A little soulless and not a massive choice, seemed a bit bare to me. Not massively interested in serving customers who weren't eating in and very little stuff priced. Got a few items but not impressed

My partner and I used to go quite often to have a sandwich at lunch. It is quite pricey, particularly if you get a takeaway which is charged at the same price as if you ate it which would include salad and crisps or coleslaw (takeaway is just the sandwich). I'm really sorry to say that, one month ago after attending during the lunch period on a Saturday for a cheese sandwich with coleslaw and salad, I ended up having the worst bout of food poisoning. As my partner and I had eaten at home other than this trip over a 48 hour period, and the food poisoning started about 8 hours after eating the lunch, we did deduct that it was caused by my lunch. The salad and coleslaw weren't the freshest that day and it has completely put me off. It's really disappointing as we had enjoyed some nice trips in the past but I don't feel comfortable returning.

I often come hear when I fancy picking up a tart on my way home from town. On this occasion I decided to eat inside, which I have to say it was lovely and moist and a bit more fruity than I expected (which was a plus). The lady having a coffee at the next table was very friendly and told me how she loves to have something warm inside her twice a week and this is the place she likes to come most. I have to say she was right, mine was hot and steamy, just the way I like it. The northern lady working front of house was friendly and welcoming and was not shy in showing exactly what was offer as she showed her wares on the counter. The only negative comment I have is that with all the moisture generated by the activities going on inside the old building (a former bank) the windows are often steamed up, which is a pity as people cannot see what’s going on inside from the road. I left feeling fully satisfied and will definitely be back. This visit I was on my own but next time I will bring a friend as I think that will make the whole experience more enjoyable. It’s five stars from me, a wink emoji and three exclamation marks!!!

As we visit Norths 2/3 times per week and have done for years I believe we are well qualified to give an honest and realistic review. I was stunned to read the recent review giving a two star rating and berating the staff. We have always been treated in a warm, friendly yet professional manner by all the staff at Norths and have never had an issue with cleanliness. I do wish people would be less cowardly and discuss issues with the staff at the time of their visit. Reviews like that cause much upset and damage our local businesses at a time when we are struggling to keep them on our High Street. We will continue to support Norths and their staff and I hope people read this review to give some balance to the, in my opinion, unwarranted negative ones.

Pretty ok food. Tea was nice. Ploughman’s was ok, sandwich not bad. I can’t remember the filling, so that says it all. Young female staff member was pretty useless at Customer Service. She made us feel like an inconvenience and we were doing them a favour by patronising the establishment. We were informed that they had no breakfast bruschetta left and only one sausage. I’ve no idea what the soup of the day was - they weren’t particularly forthcoming. We didn’t bother with cake - we didn’t feel they deserved our custom. I said goodbye twice and they eventually and begrudgingly replied after conducting a mothers meeting behind the counter - previously b*tchin about customers allowing their children to make a mess all the floor and chairs. Keep it professional ladies! All in all, lacklustre, unwelcoming, lack of immediate knowledge regarding the stock availability and not great on the hygiene front either. The young female kept rubbing and scratching the back of her head/neck whilst passing us cutlery from the same dirty hand, in one napkin to share. The other lady who was more approachable, coughed in our faces at the bar tables. She apologised, but keep it to yourself. We will find a better establishment next week.

The produce from this place is great and sandwiches are really good. The seating area is nice too if a little small. However if you’re in a hurry either get a meal deal from one of the co-ops in town or order ahead as the service is so slow!! We were there on a particularly slow day but 1hr for a sandwich to be made is crazy! Even when I’ve been when it’s not that busy it’s still really slow. The staff are apologetic when serving but it really doesn’t feel like they’re trying to help the situation and move so slow. Such a shame as it ruins a lunch and the quality of food is spiked by the service. Lunch is supposed to be a prompt affair when you need to get back to work. Certainly not good for anyone with children either as I saw a couple who waited just as long with a baby, which looked very stressful! Will only be back if I have 1.5 hours to spare for a lunch…

Disappointing food at Norths today. Usually it’s excellent, but we have seen a drop in quality over the last few months. Our dissatisfaction came about because the bread was not as fresh as it’s always been previously. The cheese on the piccalilli line sandwich had grated cheese whereas we expected slices. The avocado and bacon was also disappointing as the bread was crumbly and the avocado was a bit of a mush. We hoped for better, as we are regular customers and may have to find alternatives in Ashby

The price of two take-away sandwiches were nearly £14. Happy to pay this in the deli when it's accompanied with a nice salad and coleslaw but takeaway shouldn't be charged at the same price as you're not using the services and you're not getting the side salad, crisps, coleslaw etc. Also cold takeaway food like a sandwich is zero-rated for VAT so customers should save that as a minimum. The quality of the food is excellent but take-away pricing needs to be adjusted. I did query this with the lady at the point of ordering and she simply said that everything has gone up. I wrongly assumed at the point of ordering that take-away prices would be cheaper and only found out when I returned to collect and pay.

Amazed at the positive reviews. After making allowances for difficult times I couldn't let my visit go without comment. Had the staff bothered to ask if my food was ok despite leaving it all I would have told them but they didn't. I am coeliac and was pleasantly surprised to be told they had g/f bread because the menu had no allergy details or options listed. I ordered North's bruschetta to be done on a slice of g/f toast. It eventually came on normal bread with a sausage...not the ingredients listed...which were bacon, free range eggs, flat mushroom and roasted tomatoes topped with parmesan cheese. I had to go back to the counter and despite just having been given my food which might indicate a problem I was made to wait whilst the other customers were served. I would've happily eaten what I had been presented despite it being wrong if the items were g/f but the waitress took the plate of food away. It came back with g/f toast the same egg which had been underneath the non g/f sausage and an extra slice of hot bacon (the slice on the bottom was cold). By this time I have no confidence that the staff even know what g/f means or the dire consequences for anyone like me. My partner had avocado on toast...it could barely be described as toast..just a budget bread slice that was barely toasted (it wasn't even warm enough to melt the butter!) The word Deli suggests a little better quality which was certainly not the case. The staff are going through the motions...not listening, certainly not hearing, too busy to accommodate the menu the offer. However, the coffee was good. We won't be returning.

I stopped coming to North's a while ago as although SOME of the food is nice and I do rate their coffee, the customer service is shoddy. Today there was a downpour and unfortunately I couldn't make it to my favoured choice of café where you always get a warm welcome so I thought I'd give North's another chance. I was greeted by tables strewn with previous customers dirty plates. Nobody attempted to clean them away so I moved them to another table. I heard another customer ask for his table to be wiped clean. I am familiar with the café and know you go to the counter to place an order but if somebody just brought you a menu and explained this it would be nice. After 10 mins of being ignored I requested a menu. None of the staff smile or are welcoming. It's like they're doing you a favour that they are there. Nobody asks if you've enjoyed your food. Nobody seems to care. In fact I didn't really enjoy it today, the soup was far too spicy and wasn't pleasant. Nor did I enjoy the Eggs Benedict breakfast I had about a year ago, overcooked eggs served in a lukewarm sauce. Or the food when it is served, almost being thrown down with no apologies for the inevitable spillages. Or the raw scone I was served and told by the waitress, 'Well I didn't make it'. I wish I'd braved the stormy weather and headed elsewhere. Some of the food is really tasty. The sandwiches and quiches are above average and I do like their coffee but this is not enough for me to visit again as there are plenty of other places to eat in Ashby where you get a professional service, a smile, polite conversation and a desire to have repeat custom.

Really enjoyed our first visit. A little pricey, but definitely worth paying for. The paninis are huge compared to the majority of places, and the fillings are very generous...and filling! I was honestly so impressed/excited when we received our food. Lovely dressings on the salad and nice crisps on the side. Kids sandwich was worthy of the price too, with nice thick slices of ham...none of that wafer ham nonsense. Staff were very friendly, and with the current heatwave, the gentleman working there kindly moved the fan next to our table to keep my family nice and cool. Fast, friendly service, that went the extra step. Kids high chairs were also available. Thank you to the 3 people on shift today. Will definitely recommended to family and friends, and revisit next time we’re in the area.

Great Deli just at the bottom of the main high street in Ashby. The staff are great, friendly and very considerate. They have a good range of food and drinks and there’s always a nice buzz about the place. One unique thing that many may not know is that you can buy whole cakes from them and they have a fantastic range. You’ll never buy a birthday cake from Sainsbury’s again. The square strawberry, cream sponge cake is one of the best cakes I’ve eaten and it’s very moreish. Ranging in price from around £11 up to £20, they are really great value for money as they taste amazing. This is their chocolate torte and the pics speak for themselves. Another splendid visit to North’s, the quality and service are consistently high. The specials board never fails to impress my taste buds. The staff are always really friendly when ever you visit.

Visited today with a friend. Waited 25 minutes for food but it tasted nice and was well presented. Ordered a Hot chocolate but it was not very warm. Lady serving behind till wasn’t very welcoming, needs to improve on her customer services. Waiter was more helpful and friendly.

Called in at this cafe/restaurant/deli one Saturday morning and was amazed at the range of food and drinks available. There were expensive chocolates on display, meats, cheeses, pastries and cakes. You could call in for a coffee and a snack or a meal. The service was good and the food was excellent.

I've visited North's Deli many times over the past few years. Really tasty fresh food from the sandwiches to the quiches etc. Good for pantry items like preserves/chutneys/jams and they also stock a favourite cheese of ours - Black Bomber from the Snowdonia Cheese Company.

Great Sunday Lunch as always! The food is always delicious and the chocolate brownie always goes down a treat! The staff were rushed off their feet but all of them were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.

After reading the reviews here we must have called on a nightmare day...ordered soup, it arrived lukewarm and spilling over dish. Asked for it to be reheated, came back slightly warmer but with very greasy croutons, completely inedible. First time I've ever felt the need to up sticks and leave a cafe without paying.

Really great experience. Friendly staff, well organised and well ran. Carvery was very good I had the beef my wife the steak pie which she said was amazing. The veg and gravy was really really good. My son had the burger and he enjoyed it. Lots of the food is supplied locally according to the website which is great. Really nice pub, even had an open fire, busy for a Tuesday lunchtime which was great to see.

Nice place with plenty of parking and friendly staff. Just avoid at the school run time as the car park gets rammed with parents collecting the kids so access is limited
