I have always given 5 stars , but we had chips and large cod Saturday and they were very poor obviously been stood a long time and possibly warmed up. Very disappointed

Just had Fish and chips from here, walked in and saw fish were sat ready, I asked if they had been in there long and was told no, ordered 2 cod and chips. Got home and ended up with 1 cod and 1 haddock and some sort of mini cod sat on top of the Haddock as if this was going to make up for not bothering to get my order correct. Wish I hadn't bothered the fish had obviously been cooked ages ago, completely dried out and just about fit for the dog. When you are charging top notch prices you can't supply this rubbish.

Called in after a week away on our way back from the airport. Spent £45 on fish and chips and was disappointed. The food was cooked fresh, less than 10 mins to wait (absolutely no problem). The chips were soggy and the haddock was tasteless with equally soggy batter. The kebab meet had a funny twang to the taste. Most of the food went in the bin. Wish had carried on driving and called at the Admiral in Mosborough

Good service and good hot food. Try the Haddock and Mushy Peas, "Small Portion of Chips" contains enough to feed three! Or try Chicken Kebab Meat with a Side Salad and loads of Garlic Sauce.

Oh my, we had beautiful fish and chips from here 🍟 The staff were busy but apologised for our wait ( wasn't that long to be fair). The food was fresh and hot, plenty of choice. The shop is very clean 👌 definitely reccomend!

Excellent chippy, the food is nice everytime, the doner meat is nice, it doesnt taste cheap like in some other chip shops, the chip portions are good too, the staff are friendly as well.

Over on a short stay, I myself work at a fish n chip shop. The service here was appalling, the staff weren't even welcoming and never smiled once. Need to be taught customer service skills. This place was recommended by a friend, we got back to our accommodation to our surprise the food was disgusting, my fish was like rubber and chips were greasy. Won't be returning and definitely won't recommend to anyone. Poor

Our regular chippy is closed on a Sunday evening so went to the North Sea chippy. Off-hand service but fish & chips ok, not great, and a bit expensive.

Over a tenner for a meal and a drink that I threw most of it away, fish had been sat there a while, “dried” not fried, chips where like mash, gravy was almost black, lumpy and gooey, There’s no pride , just greed in my opinion. The pop was alright, we’ll done Dr Barr

Shocking food we ordered cod and haddock very dry and no taste chips very hard.... curry sauce was tasteless Will not order again I’ll stick to Union Jack and crooked fryer. Manger didn’t want to know.... when I spend £25 @ a chippy it should be Decent food. Shocking and we wanted Sprite not Dr Pepper

Chips were ok but not great. The fish i was given was dried out and hard in places. FRESH FISH IS WHAT I PAID FOR AND EXPECTED! HAVE SOME PRIDE! Had to queue outside and wear a mask yet many staff inside not wearing masks. I'd rather queue a bit longer for quality and so i'll be going to Chesters from now on. Unacceptable.

This was my 2nd visit, firstly tried Fish & Chips, soggy and not worth the price. Donor & Chicken kebab very dissatisfied. No taste and donor cold. Kebabs are certainly not worth trying. No Taste with Chicken and Donor out of a pot and cold.

Reasonably nice Fish , but soggy Chips. Where has the art of good Chip-Making gone ? Reasonable cost and a good range of Food choice. Quality needs improving.

We normally go to another chip shop/restaurant up the road after reading their good reviews. We fancied a fish and chip lunch on Saturday afternoon but for some reason it was closed. Quick google search and came across North Sea Fish Bar. Well thank goodness we did. The food was fantastic. The fish was delicious and ‘meaty’ if that’s a word to describe how thick the fish was. Chips to die for, really tasty, fresh and great portion sizes. I think this will become our new regular chippy from now on.

Ordered a Takeaway incorporating Large Cod , Chips and Peas for two. Food was very late in arriving , but I can forgive that owing some to very poor local weather conditions at the time. Portions were excellent. Very large Cod and generous Chips. However the quality of the Meal was a little disappointing. The Fish needed more batter and another couple of minutes in the Deep Fryer. The Chips were soggy and stuck together. This might be partially to the late delivery. Crispy texture however is all important for both Fish and Chips. The Price of the Food was okay but certainly not cheap. Suffice to say , I will not be rushing back to place another order.

Almost every Friday we have the lunch time special from North Sea, mini fish, chips and mushy peas, despite the fact I’m on a diet this is my weekly treat and can’t fault it, light crispy batter and pure white well cooked fish, good sized portion, keep it up 👍

I was a very loyal customer and I have always enjoyed the food here. However, for the last approx 4 times the food as been disgusting. I have now found another chip shop that the food as been spot on every time. Sorry North Sea but you've lost my custom, unless anything changes

We have been coming here for longer than I care to remember.although as new fish & chip shops keep opening locally we have tried them all.but we still find this one the best.not just for quality but also value for money etc.I have read other people's negative coments & can only say that I think it depends what time you go etc.& call me a cynic but can't help but think some of the comments have something to do with rival businesses. I only ever wasn't happy once & went back & complained & they cooked another one freshly while I watched no problem.also id like to say that everyone has an off day sometimes.we wouldn't be human if we didn't.but it doesn't mean it's always like that

As bad as it is for my waistline,I just can't help but visit just for the chicken meat &chips with garlic mayo. Best in chesterfield.shop always spotless and staff so friendly. You can tell a good shop when it has such a low turnover of staff. You are my guilty pleasure.

I have eaten fish & chips from several chippies in the Chesterfield area and I must say that the most tasteless and bland are from the North sea fish bar. Although you are served loads of chips and the fish is huge, I believe this is to compensate from them being awful. The fish is huge because it is covered in thick batter and the chips just don't taste of anything even when they are covered in their version of curry sauce, which also tastes of nothing. I shall not be visiting this eatery again.

I use North Sea Fish Bar every Wednesday evening on my way home from babysitting my grand kids, and can tell you its just not possible to get a better large Cod anywhere in Chesterfield.You might find one cheaper you might find one smaller, but you wont find one better,their sausages and donner meat are my favourites too and you can eat in or out as there are tables. Just a cut above in my opinion.

I popped in to pick up "2 x small portions of chips" I've never seen so many chips .... HUGE portions and really good they were too :)

Just moved nearby been a few times no complaints at all generous serving of chips one portion enough for 2 staff friendly and reasonable price my new fav chippy.

Most people wouldn’t review a fish & chip takeaway, but the fried fish here really are worth buying if in the area and then taking home 30miles... Thick cod fillets and long tasty haddock fillets in lovely crispy batter, always freshly cooked and always busy, and can vouch for consistency after four visits.

I have bought fish & chips from these guys regularly and must say the service & quality of food is unbeatable, staff are very friendly and very courteous with fantastic customer service & manners, the quality and amount of food is amazing, the fish is never coated in thick batter or chips greasy, just cooked to perfection every time and the chips are enough for two people, i have made the mistake of using other fish & chip shops but have been severely disappointed in them, having a friend who also had national award winning chip shops most of his life i know what to look for & i can honestly say these guys use only the very best of everything and are the only fish & chip shop i will use in Chesterfield, the saying "its the little things that matter" is absolutely spot on & these get ALL the little things right which gives a FANTASTIC RESULT in just great food, keep up the good work please it is appreciated.

After a morning of playing sports we decided to have a walk along Whittington Moor and pick up some food on the way to the park. Quick and polite service plus chips melted in the mouth when eating them. Absolutely delicious.

We always go here when we want fish and chips. Food is always good and portions are big and the staff always friendly. They have a card reader if you don't have cash, which is helpful.

Generally always go here even though it's a few miles drive from home. Local chippies near me are a disaster but the other day I was served something from NSFB that they claimed was fish. It was indeed fish but instead of the succulent freshly fried white fish I usually get here I was served a fish that had been fried then left heated waiting for someone to come along and buy it.It was dry, hard, tasteless and inedible really. Not freshly fried. It's not cheap as it is and they shouldn't serve sub standard food. It's a shame but it's unacceptable and i'll go elsewhere from now on.

I thought that I would hold off on giving the NorthSea Fish Bar a review until I had visited Rick Steins Fish & Chip Shop at Padstowe. I know it was a long way to go to carry out a comparison but for the sake of an unbiased report I did so during my holidays. I can honestly say that all the hype about Mr Steins offerings did nothing for me, the portions were miserly, mushy peas served in a cardboard cup the size of a thimble and dry overlooked chips were not to my liking and the price £36 for 2xmeals with a cup of tea seems excessive WELL DONE Mr Dandwahr, your Fish & Chips are the best I've ever had and very good value

We called for 3 mini fish chips & peas. We haven't been here for years & we won't be coming back. The batter was mushy & pale & the chips undercooked & disgusting. The only thing that was ok were the peas. I'd give this a miss & go to the Mermaid down the road. This was a far superior fish & batter. We went there the previous week & can't recommend that enough.

I've been a big fan of North Sea since they opened way back when, but our latest visit has just made it our last. We called at about 1pm and the chips were beyond bad. They were dry, just cooked and had such a bitter, sour taste they were inedible.The place is very inconsistent in its quality of latter years and no wonder it is up for sale.

I called at the North Sea Fish Bar recently whilst in Chesterfield. It is just up the road from the football stadium and seemed busy as we passed.I ordered a portion of fish and chips and it was a very generous portion. The batter was crispy and not at all soggy, the chips were cooked to perfection.Great friendly service from the staff even though they were rushed off their feet.

Come here a lot now. The fish is amazing. Large, cooked well, meaty and white. Absolutely superb. The chips are often soggy and not crispy which let them down. Peas and gravy lovely. Would be the icing on the cake if they did a gluten free option though like Chesters down the road. IMO the fish here is a million miles better than Chesters but if they did gluten free that would be a huge bonus.

My favorite fish and chip shop, like most others apart from they take the skin off the fish which is why I come here because I don't like the skin. Best to go when it's not peak times, I find you get more chips and bigger fish

Friendly staff, huge portions; this is not a case of quality vs quantity the food is gorgeous and you get a lot of it. North Sea isn't my nearest chippy but is a million times better and always worth the drive.

We decided to give this place ago and was not disappointed. Excellent customer service and with a smile. Proper chips also excellent Yorkshire fishcake. We will definitely return again.

If you find yourselves in the neighbourhood, this place has the best fish and chips that we've had for a very long time. As we joined the queue we got talking to another customer who drives 30 mins twice a week just to get their cod and chips and kebab. I have to say that the freshly cooked fish was just fantastic, not soggy or greasy and the chips just how we like them. The staff were really friendly too. All in all, quite a find and would definitely recommend.

I took my wife and two friends,for a birthday treat and what a treat it was, we entered and then we were shown to our table by a very nice young lady who told us someone would come take our order. we ordered 4 pensioners specials i thought this is where the service drops not a bit of it we were brought 4 fish chips with side salad variuse sauces which i have to say were the best fish & chips i have had in a very long time. We could not fault the service it was a real treat from start to finish thankyou to Chesters and their staff for making 4 old pensioners feel like royalty.

Ive tried hundreds of chippys over the years and this is definately one of best! we are never disapointed with the fish and you always get a good size portion,staff always smiley and freindly,will continue to visit as havent found any reason not too!

North sea is a lovely clean chip shop with a fairly extencive menu (all what you would expect to find at a Chippy plus kebabs, burger/veggie burger), the shop has decent opening times and is open on Sundays. The portions a large but that of good quality. North sea is not my nearest Chippy but it is worth a longer drive.

Ace fish and chips. Lovely crisp batter and melting fish inside. Loads of chips cos they don't scrimp on the portions. We had the lunch-time special and mushy peas, curry sauce and beans were on offer in the price. Wow! If you are on a diet then give yourself a break and pop over one lunch-time. Well worth a trip. Lovely friendly staff and a joy to visit. Full marks.
