This place is gorgeous and has stunning food it really is heavenly, however the owner is a creep and a weirdo, please spend your money elsewhere, usually it’s staff that display rude behaviours however in this case it was the owner. i will never return

After visiting many times and having lovely food. Was greeted by the most awful (Presume manager)! Arrogant unhelpful, man. Very polite young staff can’t fault them. Such a pity that evening was ruined by an extremely unhelpful person. Hopefully the owner will address this issue

Booked a table on line for 5.45pm yesterday evening. Arrived slightly early but was shown to our table no problem. We both had steak, one Sirloin & one Ribeye & can honestly say they were both cooked to perfection. We both also had a sauce to complement our meals, one pepper & one Stilton. I would go as far as to say the Stilton sauce is the best I have ever had. Also the onion rings were lightly battered & not in anyway greasy. We had a minor issue when the bill arrived but this was sorted immediately. We haven't been here for a few years after a bad experience but will definitely be going back soon. My only very small gripe would be that the table we were on was quite close to the next table of four, but all in all it was a great experience. Make sure you book your table though - as we were leaving around 6.45pm it was getting very busy 🙂

Most delicious ribeye I’ve ever had! Sometimes when having medium well you run the risk of it being tough but it was so moist and flavoursome!! The staff were really attentive, polite and friendly and loved the dessert choices - my treacle tart was lovely!!

We have been looked after by Matt and his excellent team for the past 8 years. We have never had a bad meal and always feel so welcome. Our daughter recently celebrated her 18th birthday and as always, we had a superb evening. There isn’t a steakhouse like the Galleon, it’s absolutely fantastic.

Great food at the galleon, meal was cooked perfectly as expected, the chefs are a credit to The Galleon. From arrival the front of house team are welcoming and friendly, great atmosphere. The galleon is easily one of chesterfields best (if not the best) great evening.

Rang at 2pm (they officially opened at 12) - told shut till 4pm today. Rang at 3:30pm to preorder 'Only deliveroo tonight'. After much trouble ordered via deliveroo (not our no.1 choices as Deliveroo did not offer these). Delivery arrived in a ripped sodden bag (leaking meat juices). Missing dessert. Rang to inform restaurant so could replace dessert. All deliveroo's fault apparently, wash our hands of it, wouldn't send out our own drivers in this weather (been snowing previous evening but we had travelled by car a long distance the same day without any problems). Deliveroo's 'service' doesn't allow for replacements, only a refund. Food that did come ok but nothing special. Restaurant owner hung up on me when I asked for missing item and told him we'd been out in the car np!!!

Would’ve been a 5 star review but the manager Zoe let you down! Food was fantastic, young waiters are a credit to you but Zoe needs to go on a course for customer service! Appreciate it’s NYE but in future maybe give Zoe the night off!

Orderd a delivery xmas eve t bone streak missin!! Refused to help left us without my parteners main meal and all food cold! Made my tummy hurt, rude manager just didnt want to help no refund or nothin was so unprofessional and unfair !! We spent 79 pounds with a tbone steak missin????

Went for a date night and it was lovely. The service by Finley was amazing and he really looked after us. The fillet steak was absolutely gorgeous and we really enjoyed it. Highly recommended and will definitely be back. Thank you so much.

Random stay at the hotel/restaurant, travelling all over the country with work I try to find gems like this place, I want to mention Jacob and Zoe for the service they provide, outstanding ,a credit to the Galleon, the food is amazing and full credit to the two chefs in the kitchen, if you stumble across this place in Chesterfield then go and take time to book yourself in for dinner or an overnight stay, you will not be disappointed.

Shame for the review. I have had a couple of nice meals here, but recently the quality, and especially service, have gone south very quickly. My last experience was dinner for 2, costing a fair price for takeaway, the steaks were delivered in their original packaging (Costco by the look) … and the pricy fries looked like something your cat sicks up, insult to injury, sides stone cold 😂. A call to the restaurant yielded nothing, not even a raised fake eyebrow!? 😂. Not for me again thanks guys.. awful.

Really good steaks, well cooked, lots of flavour. Good varied menu selection., excellent starters.. Service great. Beer OK at a reasonable price. Could have done with a green veg like peas with the steak. Great value though considering what you get. Recommended place.

We stayed here for one night mid week and can honestly say it was a fabulous experience. The room was massive with a huge bed, really comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. Central location with free parking. The continental breakfast was laid out in a communal area outside the bedrooms which was great, we filled our plates and had breakfast in bed. We had one of the best steaks ever in the restaurant, it was amazing. Top quality food and service. Would highly recommend 10/10

Visited for our first date 7 years ago and returned for our anniversary this week. Cannot fault anything, staff were so welcoming & attentive and atmosphere was great. Food was amazing, just disappointed I didn't have room for pudding!!! We'll definitely not leave it 7 years again this time 🥰

Large birthday party at the galleon for my wifes 50th birthday pre ordered starters/mains/puddings. we got there and shown to our table ordered drinks and waited for the guests to arrive when everyone was here they let us settle it the cosy environment starters came out absolutely great then the mains came out alot of people had different steaks and all was cooked to perfection and then the puddings came out omg all made fresh. The galleon steak restaurant definitely needs a visit if your ever in Chesterfield you won't be disappointed. Thankyou Matthew

Visited on Sat 2nd November with my partner we stayed in the hotel as well what an amazimg experience the hotel was brilliant fantastically decorated, very large and very comfortable. The restaurant was just wow 😍amazing food best steak I've had we will definitely return for another stay

Booked a table for my dad and made it clear that he is a wheelchair user. On arrival there was no step free access. They were brushed off saying that other users could get in. Severe lack of understanding that not every wheelchair user is the same. Had to go elsewhere, last minute. For any other wheelchair users, please avoid if you require step free access

Good range of tasty steak dishes and especially good value on Thursday evening when our steaks were half price.

That was, without a doubt, the worst steak I've ever eaten in my life. 45oz of rubbish. Two of our party of five ordered the £45 tomahawk steaks. They were served to our table black on the outside and raw in the centre. Not rare, but raw. Cold. They were taken back to the kitchen and came back as tough as leather and still sketchy in the middle. I suspect they were cooked from frozen. The T Bones were fresh and lovely. The chips and sauces were also great. The only bad things were the tomahawks and the very very slow service. Our bill was reduced by £45 but it's left us with a feeling of never again. We won't be returning if that's the standard of food they put out. See the picture for the bloodbath we were served.

Service started great however there was only 1 other table there when we arrived. Food was underwhelming, crostini’s were so hard I had to leave some, one steak was slightly under cooked, the other was over cooked. Red wine sauce tasted like bisto with a shot of cheap cooking wine in it, the pepper sauce wasn’t very peppery. Desserts were beautifully presented however there were no descriptions for them on the menu so we were surprised when the chocolate wreck was full of caramel. As the restaurant got busier the service went dramatically down hill. Our second round of drinks took 10 minutes to arrive , and we waited 20 minutes to order desserts after receiving the dessert menus. These wait times wouldn’t normally have been an issue in an understandably busy period, however there were 8 members of staff on for front of house, which were mostly stood at the bar doing nothing. Overall, our experience was less than impressive for the price paid, even with the Facebook offer discount there was no value for money. EDIT in response to owners reply : I have left 3 other reviews for different places, 2/3 were 5 stars and completely honest. An owner should be rectifying issues and complaints, not belittling your customers for telling the truth. Honesty hurts when you know your failing! I eagerly await your response 🙂

Faultless meal, arrived quickly, presentation brilliant and portion size generous. This was our 1st visit and itwon't be the last. Didn't even know this gem of an eatery was on our doorstep. Highly recommend.

A beautiful meal, enjoyed by all in the party. We enjoyed the galleon block. All the items were cooked perfectly and the desserts were some of the best we've had. We'll certainly be visiting again!

As a family of 5 we often struggle to find somewhere that we all fancy. However the galleon menu offers something for everyone. Food was incredible. It came out looking fantastic and tasted amazing. All fresh and cooked to perfection. Bar and front of house team are polite and well mannered. Chef and team love what they do and this reflects in the food and presentation. (We had a kitchen view, was amazing to see the effort that goes into every dish) Would highly recommend for couples, family's with children 5+ and large groups. Will definitely be returning.

Food was flawless as per usual, but since the last time we came most of the staff had changed. Most of the new staff were 18/19 years old and this lead to really poor service throughout the night. Sides took an extra 15 minutes to come out after the mains, numerous drinks orders were forgotten.

Lovely beef filet steak but the battered onion was a bit greasy. Baileys cheesecake was good except for the base which was very thick & hard to get through. Great atmosphere

Off street parking available, payment depends on day and time. This visit was for the Sunday Lunch menu so parking was free. The venue was well staffed, clean and warm. The menu was nice and cooked/plates up to order. Everything on the plate was tasty and nothing remained from all seven diners. Great place for a Sunday lunch if you like something better than a standard carvery.

Lovely meal today, I had beef and the other 2 had turkey and it was so tender and cooked beautifully, huge yorkshire pudding, decent size stuffing. And had sides of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets, plenty for two people in each portion. The serving staff were polite, and attentive and a credit to the business. Best sunday lunch for a long while.

Stayed in the Haddon room, beautifully clean, bed was large and extremely comfortable, great sleep. Great location close to town centre. Lovely continental breakfast waiting for us early in the morning. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely return.

Ordered x3 mixed meat roast, the turkey was grizzly, the beef was not as good. Had a thyme piece left in food. Veggies was hard and felt not cooked. The gravy was watery and went all over my parents trays as the watery gravy melted the container it was delivered in. One of the other meals was the 8oz steak with chips ,Where was the steak 🥩 if you’re paying that price you expect a steak 🥩. the chips where nice though. Overall disappointed of the quality of their cookery.

The restaurant offered decent sized portions at a reasonable price for a restaurant of its type. The interior was warm and staff seemed friendly enough.

If you have not visited this place you’re missing out. My daughter and son in law held there wedding reception here and it was amazing from start to finish a private function beautifully set out and the food was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing, great friendly staff a credit to this establishment. I will definitely be back soon. I can’t express my appreciation enough for the great day and evening we all had. If you’ve not been you really need to give this fantastic place a try x

I highly recommend The Galleon Steakhouse. The food is of high standard. The burger and chips were excellent and delivered with a friendly customer service.

If you're looking for even a half decent steak this is not the place. I spat every mouthful out trying to find 1 decent piece of meat. £15 piece of rubber.

Excellent quantity and quality of food. Service was poor and very slow. Waited 30 minutes for the table to be cleared. Didn't ask if we needed any drinks. Took too long so didn't wait for the dessert. They appeared to be more interested in getting the takeaway orders finished, than the customers in the actual restaurant.

Food is good. Waitresses very good. Went for the Facebook offer of 50% off. The offer was presented on the tables with a small supplementary menu listing the offer prices of the qualifying meals. It was quite obvious we were ordering from this menu but when we received the bill, we had been charged full price in some items. We questioned the bill but the manager quite patronisingly said we hadn’t mentioned the Facebook offer. We thought we had booked via Facebook but turns out the online booking system didn’t allow us to redeem the offer this way. Since the offer was shown on each table, and we clearly ordered from this list we feel we should have gotten the discount. Our complaint was dismissed by the manager blaming us for not understanding the offer. He went on to suggest we find elsewhere to eat in future. I can deal with being advised I have made an error, but the offer is quite ambiguous, and to be treated as we were left a foul taste.

Matt managed my sisters wedding reception. Matt and his team made my sister and brother in laws wedding day, it wouldn’t have been possible without them. Food was phenomenal, staff were friendly, attentive, helpful and worked incredibly hard with a smile on their face from start to finish. If you are considering contacting them for a wedding reception you won’t regret it!! Words aren’t enough for what you did for my family

This was the first time that I had visited for Sunday dinner and I wasn’t disappointed. My wife and I ordered the beef. The food was very nice and the portions were good leaving us no room for a pudding.

A superb two course Sunday lunch; for £18.00 you get three meats, beef, gammon and turkey with all the trimmings. Great food and service in modern surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere. Tip: book if you can as the restaurant is very popular.

I pre Ordered a three meat roast dinner to arrive at 1:10pm. The food arrived at 2pm and then when I received my dinner I only received one meat.

Bacon needed cooking more on the pigs in blankets - some of it was very pale. Requested 1.15 delivery, had an update to say 1.40pm and it arrived at 2pm.

Had a delicious 3 meat roast dinner here today, but the price of drinks is shocking. 1 tonic water and 1 blackcurrant cordial and soda water £7.25! How on earth they can charge that for basically water is beyond me!

Absolutely amazing. Extremely quick service and food to die for highly recommend and will most definitely be making a return on my next visit to Chesterfield. Well done guys A****** all round ❤️

Lovely sunday roast, perfectly cooked veg and tasty gravy

Steaks and burgers were exceptional, our compliments to the kitchen. Children's chicken had too much batter and was too greasy for kids. Front of house staff were nice but not very attentive, 5 staff all stood chatting by the bar facing away from customers which meant having to get up from the table and walk to them to get any kind of service. Complained to the manager who didn't seem to care his staff weren't doing their jobs, could only tell me that 'they have been asked not to do that' Our recommendation should you go, is to request a table straight in front of the bar, this way you can easily get the staffs attention should you want any kind of decent service.

Celebrated my birthday with friends, we had Sunday Lunch , Food was delicious, everyone was impressed ,well worth a visit ,will be back !!.

Had a fabulous family meal at the Galleon Restaurant on Sunday, 30.06.24. As usual, they didn't disappoint! The steak is something else, cooked to perfection, fresh, and was like cutting through butter! I had the cod...it was delicious and cooked perfectly ! The manager, Mathew, made a point of coming to our table to say he had put on our booking reservation a flag to say we prefered " thicker gravy"... such a personal touch! We highly recommend the Galleon if ever you are ever visiting Chesterfield !

Called on the spare of the minute for Sunday Lunch , showed to a table straight away. The waitress brought the menu and took our drink and food order once we had chose. We both ordered Brisket of Beef with a side order of Cauliflower cheese, which was absolutely delicious and cheesy. The portion sizes were very good , everything cooked to perfection. We couldn’t resist ordering a sweet and again was absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely be back soon with family and friends. One of the best Sunday Lunches we have had 👍

Firstly I must say I have been here numerous times and have had great meals and service. The girl who took our order was lovely, I asked about the hanging kebab marinade and she told us exactly what it contained. I requested the jacket potato with no butter, ( which I have had in there before) and a salad with no dressing. The drinks were very good as always. The meal arrived - the kebab with fillet steak chunks which was very nice, a pile of wet leaves and a jacket potato with a greasy topping. I pointed out I do not eat butter and asked if I could have a plain jacket potato. Sadly I was told by (presumably) the duty manager the menu had changed and this is all they could offer. She said she was unable to get another potato cooked. Apparently 'twice baked' jacket potato means the potato is scooped out and replaced after mixing with a greasy substance. The staff congregated on the corner of the bar talking and looking at us, making me feel quite uncomfortable. After eating around 6 pieces of fillet steak and a cherry tomato I thought there may have been a reduction in price, but no. We paid the full bill regrettably and no tip. After all our good experiences here including a family meal last year where we spent several hundred pounds we will not be returning. I now understand the poor reviews.

Amazing food and excellent service. Top class throughout. We visited for a family birthday and will now make it a regular venue for family celebrations. Two of us went for the fillet steak whilst the other guests went for the salmon and gammon respectively. As far as the fillet was concerned it was superb. We didn’t have a sweet but did observe deserts being served to other tables and they also looked delicious. Thank you for a brilliant meal.

Unfortunately we didn't even stay for our meal. Walked in and witnessed the manager talking to her staff in such a disrespectful way that we walked out in disgust 😑

Very disappointed with that to be honest. Ordered a 40oz tomahawk steak and honestly, I highly doubt there was even 6oz of steak in it and trust me, I looked for it haha. The amount of fat and gristle was the worst I've ever had in any beef I've eaten and I generally don't mind a bit of fat but that was ridiculous. Ordered thinking I might have some to take to work tomorrow and I'm sat here feeling like I've just had a starter after a "40oz" steak :'), definitely not worth £35.

Absolutely superb steakhouse, the best I've experienced. The food was top notch, service fast and outstanding and a great atmosphere for my partner's birthday meal on the last night of our Derbyshire break. Cannot recommend highly enough, and would return to Chesterfield just for another meal.

Fantastic as always thanks. I can thoroughly recommend the Hunters Chicken. Two good sized chicken breasts with plenty of cheese, bacon and bbq sauce. Served with butter potatoes and greens. Delicious!

Family meal of 11 Oder taken a variety of meals from full rack of ribs ...and mixed grill....3 kiddy meals ....all fab But the hanging kebab disappointed with the presentation...maybe some peppers onion ..mushroom between the steak and one wrap !! Also over peppered to point of burning my mouth could not manage the last chunk . But cooked brilliantly bar one medium was rare ..luckily he can eat both . Kiddyy pudding ...they loved them adults finished them as such a good portion . A little stilted service very going through the motion ....very young bit of banter needed a skill you pick up reading the room . But all in all alm enjoyed .

Went a second time because we had an amazing time the first time. Very disappointed this time as we were expected to cook our own chatobriand this time and disheartened the service was much less standard. We complained because this was the case and we were asked to leave by the manager. He was very rude and didnt want to rectify the problem which we found very disrespectful as we thought this would be the customer service you would expect anywhere else. Also we were going to book overnight and glad we didn't. Safe to say we won't be returning. We were very welcomed at the soulville and enjoyed a delicious meal, very disappointed at the galleon

Eaten there several times but never had a Sunday Lunch up until today. Fantastic lunch, service and quality of food second to none. The Cauliflower cheese was the best I've ever had. Pay the extra couple of pounds compared to chain restaurants, you wont be disappointed.

Stayed for two nights in May 2024.The room we had was very nice, with a big large bed very clean and modern. Check in and parking was great, breakfast was continental type but well stocked for all your needs virtually everything you could want. But if you want a fell cooked breakfast Wetherspoons is only two minutes walk. Great location for shops and train station about 15 mins walk away. We had a meal in the restaurant one night which was excellen and the staff are very good. Overall high recommended
