The Little Castle in Chesterfield

Great service tonight. We were a large party, and we were looked after from the moment we arrived. The front of house gent was very pleasant as were the waitresses and bar staff. These guys do a great burger too. Will be back.

All of the staff were friendly, polite and courteous througout our visit, from the lady at the welcome desk to the bar staff, carvery staff and waiters/waitresses that were clearing tables. What particularly stood out was a moment when we were at the carvery counter. Sara had served my 14 year old son but as he was helping himself to vegetables he dropped his plate, which smashed at his feet. He was horrified and really worried. Sara was amazing with him. She kept him calm and reassured him that it was ok whilst quickly sorting a replacement meal for him. She couldn't have been any more lovely and professional about the situation and it really put his mind at rest. A job very professionally well done to a very high standard. The food was great and overall our experience was really good thanks.

Carvery is very good price and all the meats cooked perfectly. But veg was very poor and potatoes like little rocks Worst of all the building was very cold. Had to sit in our coats to eat our meal. Overall disapointing

Staff are always friendly, efficient and try their best to accommodate your wishes. Brilliant service and food to match. We Love it.

We like Little Castle as it’s local to us and more importantly it’s dog friendly, all the staff know our two Bedlington terriers and make a fuss of them which is lovely, they get dog biscuits and a bowl of water, the staff are great, always friendly and this is the main reason that we keep coming back, today Tyron looked after us, but as I said all the staff are lovely, thank you guys, especially from Eric and Stanley

Always a good experience, great food , lovely staff

Not the best. Marstons beer battered fish was nothing like the same dish at other pubs, the batter was hard. Chips were good, dodged the tartar sauce as I didn't fancy a dose of salmonella, it had a thick skin on it which wouldn't break even when poked. Who knows how long that had been sat out for. For a Saturday tea time it was very quiet.

First time been to this pub and was thoroughly impressed. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The food was all cooked perfectly and had a good selection. Also the best Yorkshire pudding had for a while at a carvery. Usually you get those awful frozen Aunt Bessie rubbish but these were quite large and home made! I will recommend the place to others and will definitely be going back

We visited for the second time because the food is plentiful and warm, Sunday Carvery for 5 and the staff are friendly and helpful. You can time it to avoid the queues for the carvery. Two of our party ordered from the menu and indicated that they would order the meals again in the future.

Food was average We were served at the bar by someone with a LGBT rainbow lanyard which our group found distasteful and excluding of us. We didn’t feel comfortable as a result. Someone’s sexual preferences have no place in a family pub. Plus it’s too political and shouldn’t be allowed. Edit - the reply from the owner shows the complete contempt for customers!

Very efficient service and a really good carvery at a fair price, on top of that me and my girlfriend were made to feel very welcome by the lovely staff and it was nice to see the 'everyone welcome' signs to let us know that they didn't tolerate discrimination 🌈

I frequently use this establishment for meals with family and friends. Today the wife and I popped down for convenience and are really pleased we did. Fantastic carvery

Lovely carvery today, they had green beans and cabbage on today which were lovely. staff are always very friendly and helpful. Bonus is we can take our dogs too, the staff always make a fuss of the dogs, they have treats and a doggie menu.

Not too busy today. Great service. Vicky was really lovely. Sara the carvery chef brought some meat scraps over for the dog. Love that it’s a dog friendly place. Food was really good.

Food was good but extremely slow service

The steak was too tough to cut and eat. The fish and chips were nice.

Tried to book a table for Sunday lunch and website said could not be booked but tables were available 13:00 and 13:30 so drove quite a way to be told by staff they were fully booked and weren't interested at all in accommodating us ,not interested when we told them about the website either ,bad staff and bad website

The staff are really friendly and happy to help if we have any questions about the menu. We have been to several similar establishments in our area, however we always find our way back to The Little Castle. Bravo to the staff for being so friendly and helpful.

Basic pub food which seemed to be OK . Service a touch slow but nothing extreme. Staff friendly enough.

The overall noise was a little excessive, the music seemed quite loud and along with the general noise which a pub brings, talking, chairs being moved etc it was just a little too much. My friend commented on this too.

Nice quiet lunch with hubby last week. His gammon steak was perfect (cooked by Chef Dan) and customer service by Nathan was attentive and unobtrusive. Hoping to revisit this week to repeat the experience.

Very friendly staff and excellent food

5 of us arrived on time, despite the 5 way traffic light control at the roundabout just down the road. We were greeted & shown to our table without even having to be asked who we were. The otterhound was a giveaway & she loved being pampered by the staff, who showed why the Little Castle calls itself a dog friendly pub. It is also, I'm glad to say, a people friendly pub. We each had a different Mains meal & appreciated the 30% off, part of the reason we booked here at this time. It meant the prices were quite reasonable. So were the portions, not least the Mixed Grill. The Hunter's Chicken, Scampi & Fish & Chips were much appreciated. I enjoyed the Thai Veg Curry, which was a tasty & quite hot mix of various vegetables, with plenty of rice. It It compared quite favourably with the curry I had in an actual Thai restaurant in New Zealand earlier this year. We all had puddings, 2 of us had the lush sherry trifle cheesecake, 2 shared apple crumble & sticky toffee, the other guest had the jam sponge, all very satisfied. The only downside was that when we ordered coffee, the machine had just stopped functioning. Suggestion - have some instant coffee, hot water & milk as a backup? But it was a very pleasant visit, with, as ever, charming & efficient staff.

We all came tonight to celebrate my birthday, never been before. We loved Nathan who was our waiter for the evening. His professionalism and bubbly personality were second to none. We loved chatting with him. The food was incredible, the textures and flavours were above and beyond. We shall definately come back. Thankyou so much for a wonderful evening. Xxx

Basic simple food, comfortable pleasant surroundings

A lovely family pub just off the M1. Went with a large family gathering, including some babies. Very family friendly with good facilities. Servers were all friendly and polite. Food was great. A couple of us had the carvery and very much enjoyed it. My wife loved her pie and her dessert with a generous helping of custard. They had some good veggie options. I had their veggie burger which is a great cheese and sweetcorn concoction instead of those weird fake meat burgers other places have. The decor is nice and bright and airy. The price was very reasonable. Would definitely go again.

Came here tonight for my birthday meal. Grace has got to be the best carvery chef in the world! Generous portions and even treat me to an extra Yorkshire for my birthday! Best carvery since the last time I came here. Would one million percent recommend

Very dry chicken burger, supposed to have bbq sauce but there was barley any. The gravy tasted funny and too salty.

Better than we had been led to believe . . maybe it has a history under other management it needs to shake off. Personally . . can't fault the place.

Beef as tough as old boots. 3 people tried to cut through the beef. Yorkshire puddings sad. Carrots nice peas ok. Stuffing left a lot to be desired. Baked potatoes ok, mashed potatoes ok. Would i come back. NO

The Sticky Castle. Foods fine, prices fairly reasonable, staff warm and friendly. Tables are super sticky and have been for almost a year now. It wasnt until recently that I learned it's due to the varnish on the table and not old grime or food, which is both a relief and a shame, since it's no doubt off putting. It certainly was for me, thinking the table was dirty when really it's just poorly maintained. Seems the place is being run into the ground.

Tables still sticky 4 months later 😱 Please, every now and then clean the build up of cleaning spray off the tables, table 3 was so sticky, I could scrape the gunk off with my nails. I understand it's quick to use a spray product but HOT SOAPY water, every now and then would be welcome. Food nice, just took a very long time to come and restaurant only ¼ full at early tea time.

Great place for us to meet friends and our granddaughter. Food wS good. Service was good but only two staff and they were run off their feet. Enjoyed our visit. Amanda and Liv were our hard working staff. We visited 2.30 - 4.00 pm on 6th Sept 2024.

Came on a slow day and was served by Amanda and liv both lovely. Only complaint was the food came out very slowly but this was forgotten when we tasted the food.

After a while of not visiting the little castle, we decided to go for lunch, everything about our visit today, 4 sept 2024, was great, especially the bar staff, Dawn and Jake. Thank you.

My family and I (group of 16, should have been 20) came here for my husbands birthday meal. (Sat 24th Aug) They were able to accommodate our large group, we were lucky enough to have our own little corner which was just lovely! The staff offered to put up the banners and decorations for me, as I was unable to do it myself without my husband knowing. They went above and beyond and It looked fantastic. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our server was wonderful and so funny. He had us all laughing and made us feel very comfortable. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. If we are ever over that way again, we will absolutely be coming back! (If i could give more stars, I would!) I cant thank the staff enough for everything they did!

Lovely meal, staff very professional especially Dawn,,very attentive and friendly.

Called in today for a quick bite to eat. Greeted by Jake with a smile and quickly shown to a table. Served by Faye with lovely Service at the bar, even asking if any allergies or dietary requirements. Food was served quickly. We went with Steak and ale pie definitely a good choice. Will be calling again soon.

We always enjoy coming here..the food is really good. If you are pushed for time maybe go for the carvery as off menu the wait can be fairly long...

Amanda was great, great service and looked after us very well

Went for a carvery here not great on a Tuesday at 1pm. Meat was not fresh, there was only gammon and the end of a turkey. Not a good selection of veg and mash potato was powdered. Everything was dry and the gravy was hardly warm we had to scrape it out of the bowl. The good things were that it was clean and staff was friendly.

I come here quite often. My dog is always welcome. Food is good, although it is a chain. Carvery is generally good, with a good selection of veg. Plenty of good seating. Toilets are good.

Arranged a family get together for Sunday lunch, a party of seven. All of our party had the carvery and it was excellent. Every part of the lunch was freshly cooked to perfection. The staff were helpful and friendly, ( Amanda was particularly attentive and caring, as we had elderly members in our party) and the restaurant itself is warm and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

Great pub for meeting up off the M1 for food. Not a fancy dining place, not a drinkers pub. Good food and service and does what ut says on the tin!!!

Great service from Sara, recommend the chicken and bacon salad which was perfect for a hot day and a really nice dish. Great place to relax on a long journey and better service and atmosphere than the clone-a-fast food joints nearby. Will return.

Hospitality was unmatched, my partner and I were in a car accident on the M1 and decided to camp up at the services while we waited for our lift home. In the mean time, the staff at Little Castle (especially Nathan) took us in and looked after us. We were offered a drink, something to eat, and a place to relax to make sure we were comfortable while we waited.

Faye was amazing and provided amazing service along with the rest of the staff and the food was fantastic. Faye is the type of person you want to greet you when you walk in as it was so welcoming!

We were met by the lovely smiling Faye - just the type of person you would want to greet you. Very helpful, nothing was an issue. Food was hot, tasty and went down a treat after a long drive. We will definitely be returning next year.

I went here for the first time and I was really impressed, the building itself is a lovely place with a relaxing atmosphere there is also outside seating for people that like to be in the open. The staff were friendly and welcoming we had a carvery and the food was great we also had a very nice dessert to follow our main meal. There is plenty of seating inside and a great parking space. I will definitely visit here again. A great experience all round.
