Woodheads Cafe in Chesterfield

Doesn't really change from year to year and quite honestly, it needs a serious re vamp and refurbishment. Food is good enough but portions seem to have reduced eg when you used to get two toast with your breakfast you now only get one. Gluten free options are great as they are seriously lacking in other cafés in Chesterfield. Staff can be a bit hit and miss, friendly and welcoming one day but a bit abrupt and off hand another so pick your day and staff member! Could be a lovely little place if they spent a bit of money on it.

Good value food, dog friendly down stairs, friendly staff always ready to help.

Lovely home cooked meal. Friendly staff and customers known by name. Nice and clean and friendly atmosphere.

Here on the day after xmas. All was quiet in town. The rain mist was upon us but the full breakfast was going to bring in the new year. Good owners, regular locals. I visit everywhere. Would come back again.

Meals value for money, various menu choices. Just the same for drinks tea, coffee, lattes. Worth a visit

I remember coming here most weekends with my mum as a teen. It was awhile since I’ve been so decided to come get again with my mum and kids for proper homemade cooking. I had scampi and chips, mum had quiche of the day, one daughter had full English and my youngest had sausage meal. Could not fault the food. For such a small kitchen they do a decent variety of meals. We loved our meals that much we all squeezed a pudding. Kids have been begging me to go into town for another meal so definitely be coming again when out shopping xx

An execent place to go and have a snack or meal. The food is excellent st reasonable prices. The staff are always friendly & helpful. I went to Woodheads again a couple of days ago and it was excellent.

My sister and I enjoyed a bacon cob and a latte each. It was very nice. We'll definitely be coming back again.

Where do I start.Ok,ordered 2 breakfasts one well done etc. It came and I can only describe it as a plate of grease.My daughters eggs weren't cooked enough.Bacon was full of fat and it was all floating in a sea of grease as mentioned. Said to the lad who served us that it was the worst food I've ever ate.He said sorry and would tell the chef. Ordered a small sausage chips and beans for my grandson. That arrived with 6 chips on the plate. Awful to say they been around for years.I wonder if the owner knows what crap they are palming off on people

A cheap cafe, not spectacularly clean, tables are cleared but food debris is always there. Place stinks of grease but food isn't bad, cheap and cheerful really. Just don't expect the world

This café has been around a long time and its old-style look and feel may mean it gets overlooked amongst all the established chains and trendy up-and-coming food and drink places in Chesterfield. However, despite its appearance, a visit here is a treat – especially for someone like me who requires a gluten free diet. Having “gluten free breakfast” on the menu is such a lovely thing to see, alongside options for other GF meals. Breakfast is made up of bacon, sausage, beans, tomatoes, hash brown, egg and two slices of toast with two foil-wrapped butter packs. I like to have something sweet afterwards, so I sometimes ask for a pot of marmalade to spread on one of the slices. The good quality food is always served fresh with enough on the plate and, with a squint of the eye, looks not too different to a gluten containing breakfast! The service is friendly, welcoming and the place is deserving of further visits whenever I’m in town. If you are coeliac or need to avoid gluten, it’s good to know that Woodhead’s make the effort to provide gluten free dishes whilst running a full “standard” menu. Their ability to produce meals in their relatively small kitchen whilst observing allergens in their ingredients demonstrates knowledgeable staff, giving me confidence to call in at any time (did I mention their breakfasts are served all day?! ☺)

Nice food, nice and polite staff

Excellent, food was nice prices are excellent fed me my wife and daughter with drinks for about 20 quid. The ladies that were working welcomed us and are very friendly highly recommend if you fancy a decent bit of grub

Went on sun 26th Mar for lunch. The meals we both had were very tasty and hot and we thoroughly enjoyed them. All the staff were very friendly and efficient . The place is let down by very poor toilets which desperately need refurbishing.

A little disappointing. Food was ok, afraid service was disappointing. I know I've not been in for a lot of years, but gone down hill. However, my dad goes in for a good roast or liver and onions and gets a good meal for a good price. He's happy!

I enjoyed my pie mash and veg BUT the apple and Berry crumble was as good as rubbish it was warm and had no I do say no crumble

Great full english breakfast, you really need a good appetite to finish it, or just have the regular breakfast if you fancy a smaller portion Great value.

Went last week had a lovely meal it was that nice we decided to go again but how different the food was this time had 2 Yorkshire pudding wraps and they where rubbish more like a pancake over cooked and like a Frisby and hardly any veg inside which is surprising as the lady behind counter was saying how good a deal they got off the veg man on market very poor this time so will be avoiding next time 2 out of 10 for the food

Cheap and cheerful- good food and always a warm welcome. Comfortable seating, friendly and inclusive place.

Unfortunately we did not have a great experience here as customer service was poor. We sat upstairs and it took ages for somebody to come over to take our order. It was chaos up there. Staff running about everywhere and people waiting to be served. Our food arrived before our cups of tea and the staff forgot about the fact we had ordered the drinks so we had to wait for them to be made by which time we had nearly finished our food. Staff seemed run off their feet. Food was ok but I don’t think we will return. Upstairs also seemed cluttered and there was a very very dusty fan on the counter and we could see black bags with rubbish spilling out in the corridor near where we sat.

Brilliant Staff, Brilliant Food, my little Girl loves to go to Woodheads, the staff are brilliant with her, and make a fuss of her, she likes to have a cooked breakfast when she visits.

Where do I start? My partner and I ordered two bottles of water and two full breakfasts. They didn’t have bottled so we were more than happy to have glasses, however, the glasses where mucky and had brown bits floating around in the waters. So we then asked for two cans of pop, but received them in the glasses, again with bits floating around in the glasses. When we received our breakfast, they were cold and our fried bread was soggy. We both ended up leaving our breakfasts, that we did try to eat out of politeness. We got the bill and my partner complained, we was answered in a rude manor and told “we’ve never had complaints before”, which after coming online and looking at reviews, this is not true. They didn’t charge us for the breakfasts in the end which we are thankful for, but still had to pay for the drinks we didn’t have because they were dirty.

Came here for a drink after a long walk round Chesterfield Town Centre enjoyed a chocolate milkshake staff were nice!!!

Visited here on a very busy lunchtime. Took ages for my order to be taken and even longer to have my breakfast served. Was told toast was coming, but never did. First time in many visits that I was less than pleased. No toasts not the end of the world. See what it's like on my next visit.

Had regular breakfast, good value. Finished off with a silky cappuccino.

Excellent service real comfort food

This very popular cafe does have a small seating area on the ground floor & a much larger dining area upstairs ! It's not the most glamorous of places but it's well liked by the locals serving a good choice of food & drinks including the old fashioned milky coffee ! The staff have always been very pleasant & helpful when I've visited,with the food being very nice on every occasion.

Waited an hour for breakfast told it was on it's way never turned up had to get my money back

Very busy Sunday afternoon so table service a bit slower than usual. However, lovely gluten free breakfast, strong mug of tea and friendly staff. Staff obviously know their elderly regulars well.

Needs a good deep clean & a lick of paint

A good place for lunch, full of locals but the odd tourist is very well come as well.

The cafe was very busy and the upper seating area was full we sat at table for 2 downstairs. The cafe was operating the eat out to help out scheme and was very busy with no booking system. We ordered our meal and 2 teas The girl that was serving was very much under pressure serving both the inside eaters and those sitting outside- every meal had to be fetched from upstairs and she had to clear table serve all hot and cold drink use the dishwasher and fetch the meals from upstairs The meal took 30 mins to arrive and was a small piece of pie and some chips Although I was not expecting miracles I felt the portion was very small and was worth what we paid which was half the normal price of £5.50 We were not asked to provide contact details but I asked the girl to take them down as I was leaving Disappointed

My wife was recently diagnosed as Celiac(intolerant to gluten) Quite life changing for both of us and a late in life crisis.To find this cafe/restaurant on our doorstep was a life changer.Our first visit proved a total success for us both.A gluten free meal and a very acceptable(normal) meal for myself.Good honest food with a fair price tag.Staff were friendly and helpful..Food was hot,well served and without fault.All customers were enjoying their meals and the atmosphere was vibrant.Well done.Its a change not to get ripped off paying for gluten free stuff.

As a fussy eater, I had no problem here, nice friendly staff as well, we had lunch one day then breakfast next as it was that good.

Lovely gluten free breakfast - gf toast and sausages available, free WiFi, great pot of tea. I always go to Woodheads when I’m up in Chesterfield.

We stayed in the cafe section downstairs initially not realising that there was a restaurant upstairs. We only wanted a lunch sandwich and a cuppa so it was OK. The sandwich bap was large and tasty and a pot of tea for two as well. It's obviously frequented by the locals, a bit noisy though in its small space.

Not been here for a long time and now I’d wished we hadn’t bothered . It used to be ok here but it has definitely gone down hill . We decided to have omelette and chips which used to come with a dressing of salad but it came without one . I did ask about the salad when I ordered and the young lady said it came with a salad .The chips were well over cooked greasy and only just warm and should never have been served to any customer. , my omelette wasn’t cooked properly in the middle. The annoying thing is that the people behind us had fresh chips just after ours . Any food which is being served to customers should be perfect and they shouldn’t be put in a position where they have to complain. I do a lot of reviews when we eat out so don’t complain I just tell future customers about our experience. Plus you have to wait long enough for food when it’s been ordered so I don’t like having to wait again . The staff never even came to ask us if everything was ok . All in all very disappointed.

Great service and even better food

This is by far the best value for money restaurant/cafe in Chesterfield. Generally have a breakfast, as they do them all day. Always well cooked and decent ingredients. Cheerful staff and generally quite busy, on the occasions when I have called in. Takes a while receive your order, maybe because it's very popular. Repeat visits are the order of the day here.

I enjoy my christmas dinner on christmas Day with quite a few people and their was a good atmosphere with everyone chatting to each other and helped to clean up after them.

Very good and a very high standard maintained. This cafe is above the standard of others in Chesterfield.

We go every week and it’s always lovely. Amanda brings my mum her drink and knows our order. She’s always so attentive. The lady downstairs welcomes us each week. The foods nice and well priced too. I recommend the omelettes.

We went to this establishment for a midday lunch. I had sausage, egg and chips and my husband had a ham/cheese toasted sandwich. While the food was adequate, the 20 minute wait seemed too long to be waiting. We sat downstairs which was a mistake as the tables were crammed together. There were tables upstairs so I would recommend that option. It was a busy cafe on a busy day so perhaps a different day would have meant for a better experience.

Always enjoy the food here (cheesy chip cobs are one of our go to choices) and the milky coffee is delicious. Great pricing and the staff are extremely friendly. They treat you like friends and seem to remember you from a single visit and are always happy to help.

We have been going to Woodheads for years and always receive a warm reception,the food is home made and delicious at very low prices and a good selection too.We're not paying for fancy decor and a fancy squiggle on a plate, just good delicious homely food and very friendly service.
