The staff were very friendly, if not trying too hard to please. Our order was muddled up and things forgotten. The food looked very pleasing but was un seasoned.

Warm welcome as we arrived. Had the fish sharing board with my husband. It was well presented and absolutely delicious. Great selection of seafood with thick slices of good quality bread and butter. Fished the meal with a lovely chocolate brownie and ice cream. Lovely evening.

First time visit, certainly not disappointed food and service were first class. No complaints whatsoever, but perhaps the thermostat could have been a degree or two higher.

Just been here for the first time, will definitely be back.

Came here last week, nice place but food is run of the mill really, very 70s not very innovative at all. May aswell just go to a pub with decent food as its the same basic stuff , presentation out of 10 I'd say 5. I expected better. Been editing out years and food wise this gets 6/10

Lovely meal, great service, a perfect evening! Came for my grandmas 85th birthday with the family, staff were lovely and sorted out a free drink and extra desert for my grandma. We all had either 2 or 3 courses off the Market Menu. Generous, big portions and all tasted great. Thankyou.

The meal appeared to be very nice. Unfortunately both my wife and I were very ill some 5 hours after eating at No 5. I called Cath by telephone the following evening to let her know what had occurred. Although seemingly sorry Cath just wanted to get off the phone. I gave her 3 polite opportunities to perhaps compensate, I told her we would return to the restaurant. When will these people learn??? Suggest you check the food you serve very carefully in future. To be reported to the food inspectors would cause problems for your restaurant. Try harder ….

Been 3 times in the last couple of months, food and staff absolutely amazing, unfortunately it’s like eating in an igloo, will not return until they get some heat in there or I may return in August

The food was amazing as usual 2 ad cayenne Chicken with Pineapple 1 ad belly pork and 1 ad pork calvados then pud ,the service was top notch as usual we highly recommend a meal at no 5 ! X

Tasty food, salmon delicious. Good portions size. Nice ambience with low lighting but the candles I found off-putting as they were on every table and very highly scented. Was a bit distracting to have chemical flowery sweet smell from the candle while drinking nice wine and eating nice food. Other than that can't complain and will be back nonetheless. Staff all lovely

Very disappointed with our visit for my birthday and our anniversary. We were taken to upstairs room, cheerless, with no ambience, unlike downstairs where we thought we would be eating. Our starter of Coquille St. Jacques was very poor, hardly any potato, one scallop and one prawn in a very thin sauce. The beef and mushroom pie again was in a very thin gravy with a thin one crust shortcrust top. At the end of our meal we let the waitress know what we thought of the meal and she did at least say she would let the chef know.

Some of those most delicious food, with consistent good quality, I've ever eaten. A really good selection of wine. The service is very good. A gem for Retford.

Had a meal at No5 this evening 22/10/2022. The welcome and service was lovely, the food was well presented and very tasty. I had Coquille St Jacques, lamb and shared a selection of desserts with my other half and we had a liquor coffee. It was so good. Would definitely recommend

The moment we stepped in we recieved a warm and friendly greeting. The overall ambience was very good. The staff are all excellent. The menu is a fantastic selection of carefully selected items,many or all of them with provenance. Every morsel of food was beautifully presented and tasted sublime. I simply cannot fault a single thing. Absolutely wonderful place to dine and we'll definitely be returning 😊

What a place! Called last night for a table at short notice having been very let down by The Old Police Station and a table was ready immediately despite them being very busy. Food, as ever was perfect, staff 1st class and friendly, another fantastic night - why would you go anywhere else? Been here several times since, the last being Friday 7 Oct 22 and it remains a great place to dine out - staff and hostess are first class - so welcoming.

What a fab place, really nice inside and so welcoming. Great food but portions are huge so make sure you're hungry! Owner is lovely and so friendly, staff all great. We had steaks both cooked perfectly. Would definitely recommend and can't wait to return

I think finger trouble deleted my original 4 tonight but. Been here a few times inbthe past and it was perfect. Despite lockdown its still perfect. Brilliant food complimented by welcoming, friendly, 1st class staff who made us really welcome. I love most of the restaurants in Retford but i have to say this is my no1. Its those little extras that make you feel special. Plus Dave the Maltese who came in at closing to say hi ! Love it.

I honestly couldn't find any fault with this outstanding little treasure. Crab cakes with a chilli dip, wonderful, belly pork, huge, perfectly cooked, and a Tiramisu to finish. My partner had the chicken liver and Black Truffle starter, again superb, belly pork and finished with lemon cheesecake. Add a beer and a bottle of pretty decent wine and the whole lot came to under £75! If I lived here this would be on my regular eats list, and it's worth travelling for. At the time of writing (September 2020) they had appropriate Covid-19 practice which made for a very safe, and very comfortable dining experience.

This is the second visit with friends and both times the food and the service have been fabulous, my wife is vegan and although nothing on the menu is "vegan" they are more than happy to alter and produce meals for her. Overall this is one of Retford little gems

Absolutely just WOW!! I wasnt to sure such restaurant treasures were ever left! Reccomend by a friend my Husband and I booked for date night and from telephone booking to arriving it was personable and professional. Once greeted so warmly we were seated at a lovely table on the ground floor (I couldn't see a bad seat in the place..you know..the one you dread being seated at) The menu was special a good mix and not overwhelming (always concerns me a huge menu) this was perfect and we were spoilt for choice, the service was friendly knowledgable, discreet and yet perfectly timed! Our starters were absolutely delicious! Rich had the scallops and I the asparagus and for main we went for the fillet (all meat was free range) and cooked perfectly, we shared a homemade dessert. Yum! Yum! Yum! Well done team @no5 you are a rare gem in every way! Highly recommended and will be back asap x Lisa & Rich Lord.

I would have given this a higher rating, it is a lovely little restaurant, the food is nice, if a little over priced' we were on our 3rd visit last night and all was going well until we got to dessert and we were served sour cream (complete with lumps) which we unknowingly poured all over our desserts, when we complained the response from the 'long term' waitress was "this is the cream we always serve and no other customers have complained" we were actually the first people to receive dessert being the first in to eat, she then went on to say "maybe next time don't order the cream" oops! You just nailed your own coffin I'm afraid, we would, up until that statement, have returned but unfortunately not now, she offered to only charge us half price of desserts, erm not good enough, the restaurants saving grace is the lovely lady manager who removed all 4 desserts and coffee from the bill, I would however recap the staffs customer service manner, she really let you down. Its been nice knowing you.

My partner and I went here over a year ago. We both had the Beef Stroganoff and thought it was absolutely delicious! The best meal we'd ever had at that point in time! It is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Shame they're closed on Sundays. Service could've been better, but it didn't take away from the amazing meal! Revision: We went a second time but didn't find the food was up to the same standard as before, but it was still enjoyable.

Small restaurant. tasteful decor and furnishings. Good selection on menu. I had the salmon and it was delicious. Hubby had steak with blue cheese sauce which was just as good. Not cheap but you get what you pay for in my opinion. Service could have been better but they were busy and staff are usually very attentive. I woukd recommend Number 5 to anyone and worth travelling for.

You have to book here if you want a meal. The service is quick and attentive although you get the feeling that staff are under pressure. The menu here offers lots of choice but can be quite expensive. In terms of food quality in relation to price this is more like a mid range chain restaurant. I had the steak and found it underwhelming and tough in places despite having it cooked to medium. I personally didn't see any choice of steak sauces on the menu so I didn't order any. Drink choices can be limited if you are not a big wine drinker.
