No4 Winebar & Restaurant in Ryedale

When staying at a local campsite and visiting Pickering we found this lovely spacious bar, spotlessly clean. Nice ambiance, great choice of drinks served amiably by Daz, the manager. Friendly clientele. Pictures of the bar need updating on Ta as the bar looks much smarter & welcoming than shown here.

Apparently 1 star is the lowest you can go. Shocking place. Abomination of an owner and the staff are rude and cheeky. I would not recommend going to this bar, personally I would rather drink out of a ditch. Would never return

Popped in here for a few drinks. Decent ales & snacks. Friendly staff even brought the dog a biscuit. Toilets spotless. Defo recommend and will return.

Great bar decor cool and modern but comfy and unpretentious . Great selection of drinks but the standout was really friendly barman on both occasions we were welcomed by friendly barmen who were happy to chat and swop banter . If in Pickering stop in for a pint great bar loads of room further down the bar as well.

Great selection of drinks and great banter with the locals. The furniture is quirky and the toilets pristine, definitely worth a visit.

Full of under age kids. Must have been 13 onwards. Couldn't wait to leave. Won't be returning unless I'm with the Police.

The wine bar has an Lovely atmosphere with good decor. Wide range of drinks at reasonable prices. Outstanding service from a beccy or becca whom clearly is used to providing such high quality service. Will be back.

We visited 2 nights over weekend 20th August great bar with the added bonus of table service was served by alllie such a pleasant young lady always had time to interact with us such a credit to this establishment all a mention for sebastian behind the bar nothing to much trouble will definitely be back 🍺🍺👌

Well organised..track and trace...one way system and very relaxing..good choice of lagers which we would rather have..staff very friendly, comadateing... and organised...table service very quick...special mention to iona..very professional and good at her job...fantastic 😇😇😇

Useless staff that would either rather play on their phones, or stand in the doorway smoking (which even as a smoker I find disgusting). The one bar in Pickering I happily avoid.

Lots of areas to enjoy - upstairs there’s a pool table room and a tv lounge and downstairs has a bright room with lots of seating and large tv - the pub has a darts board, large bar and friendly lads behind the bar - oh, and the Guinness is great too!

Lovely pub with many different areas to sit. It has darts and pool table. Bar man went out his way to put football on for us upstairs. Would visit again!

Love dropping in here for a glass or two of wine. Very good choice of wines and good range of prices. Quite a deceptively large place inside. Great atmosphere, TV screens around if you want to keep an eye on sporting events taking place, but music also played which adds to the general sense of night out

Just moved to pickering a d can honestly say this pub is why I moved here - great people great atmosphere no trouble - wot else do u need

Great hang out place once your evening is full in swing....I like the open floor space not cluttered with too much furniture...great for groups

Called in Sunday lunchtime and enjoyed a couple of glasses of house rose - football was on tv but sound turned down and decent music being played - due to a noisy crowd in the main bar area (some swearing going on - staff ought to ask them to politely tone it down) we went through to a back room with comfy stools. Happily whiled away a couple of hours

Sorry, but if your house white wine is so awful you can’t drink it, and you are invited to ‘upgrade’ to a Pinot Grigio, then I don’t think you have the gall to be called a wine bar. In fact, this was more like a city centre Wetherspoons. Lager and big TVs. We went in at about 5pm. There was a Friday after work, predominantly male crowd in there. A group were sat at the bar ‘effing and jeffing’ very loudly, so much so an older couple looked so uncomfortable they got up and left, then followed by us as soon as we could finish our £16 bottle of Pinot. The bar staff should have asked them to mind their language at this time of day. We walked past later and a lively loud crowd were in and there was a bouncer on the door. If you’re looking for the young, Wild West of Pickering, this is the place for you, but not if you’re looking for a sophisticated wine bar!

Had a bit of time to spare before our Steam Train trip to Whitby, Saw this Wine Bar/Restaurant in the main street convenient for the trains so popped in for a drink. Nice friendly young lady behind the bar and enjoyed a nice glass of Pinot Grigio for me and a nice selection of beers to suit my husband. Opens at 11am which was handy as the pubs seem to open at 11:30...too late for our train.

Went in for a drink when the football was on Germany v Sweden good atmosphere and the best thing about it they had coors light on which most of the pubs in Pickering don’t good music as well cheers

Turned football off10 minutes from end of game, for formula 1 been in from start of match won’t be visiting again usually in here every other weekend through the year

Nice, young, bar with a great selection of drinks and lovely staff. The place wouldn't be the odd one out in a bustling city-centre.

We just popped in for a beer and a coffee and sat by the window watching the comings-and-goings outside. very pleasant and nice beer.

The San Miguel larger is usually good! only go in at tea time on a weekend it gets very busy later on & usually not enough staff on!

We called in for a drink but didn't look at food. Large screen TV was showing sport so ok for the guys small but nicely furnished bar lounge, more of a pub than a wine bar.Had larger but is was pretty awful tasting.

Este fue un refugio de la lluvia. Una buena botella de vino por menos de 10 libras! Ganga. Aunque el fútbol estaba en el bar cuando llegamos pronto mejorado y más bebedores de vino llegamos. El personal era amable y eficiente. Espero volver pronto.

Great place for coffee friendly staff and very comfortable also serves real ales good selection of wines

Friendly and atmospheric with a coffee bar too. Rustic appeal but clean and well presented, looked like there was a good selection of cocktails too but we were on a time limit so only stayed for the one!

Fancied a quiet drink while I pondered were to eat as my first time in Pickering .nice setting ,relaxed area and young lady behind bar happy to give chapter and verse on were to eat .ect.good range of drinks with loads of good deals .well worth a visit

This place expands as you go in and find the various comfy seating areas inside dotted around. nice bar menu and good choice on tap and friendly staff and child friendly.very pleasant couple of hours

Spent the afternoon watching footy and a few bears. Friendly staff, bit of confusion over my food order which was changed 3 times due to a lack of communication between staff and cooks. but when arrived was very good burger and I was given free drink as an apology. Cheers! Would go back.

Visited the bar twice, was dog friendly. Drinks reasonably priced with offers if you but two glasses of wine. Would recommend

Went in here to watch the World Cup Rugby 2015 - it doesn't look much from the outside, but once you get further into the interior - it's lovely! There's a really excellent covered courtyard with comfy sofas. Not your usual 'sports bar'!

I called in here for a quiet drink around 5 pm on Sunday. I got the drink, but not the quietness. There was a very noisy conversation going on at the end of the bar, with lots of swearing, including the f and c words. Not what I would expect in Pickering, and I was even less impressed when I heard the barman joining in. I left after one drink, and after making my views known to the manageress.

We stopped in here with our wee dog for a quick lunch and the place was a real surprise. Nice Ale and a really tasty lunch.Food is cooked in the White Swan next door so I assume they are owned by the same company.

Warm welcome from bar staff. House wine was lovely and good choice of beers.Locals use this wine bar which is always a good sign.

Visited here mid week for a birthday lunch for my mum. We sat in the extension which was really nice. We ordered drinks and the bar maid was friendly enough, we then ordered food which we think came from next door (as stated on the menu). Farmer's lunch and steak sandwiches, all were tasty and filly. The farmer's lunch was excellent and would recommend. The bill was average. All in all a nice, no nonsense lunch.

Part of the White Swan next doorWe wanted lunch and after looking at the other uninviting places nearby, this had a large glass frontage so you could see in, not busy just a handful of people in.Large Bar to the front and a now enclosed courtyard at the back with glass roof and sofas, no one in there so we picked there to sit, it was nice and warm from the sun so pleasantBar man was friendly and helpful, some craft beers which is always good. basic food menu, which was cooked next door at the Swan and brought across to us.The chap that brought it to us, could clearly see we had no cutlery or sauces, but just plonked the food down and left, so my wife had to go to the bar and get some from the station, at which point she got a funny look from the people in there barman included, sorry what were we supposed to do? its basic service, someone should have offered it and or brought it overThe food was good, nothing to write home about but maybe couple pounds overpriced for the quality but its a major tourist area so you will always pay more.Not sure what was going on with the decor, or what the place is trying to be, a Wine Bar its not, lots of pictures on the walls for sale at ridiculous prices (and many damaged) and all stuff I have seen in places like The Range for a tenth of the price they were trying to sell them for, in fact I bet that this is were they bought them from or B & M stores etcNot very clean either needed a good clean, food on the floor and sofas and dust everywhere.I then noticed a blast from the 80,s a pin board with photo,s of drunk people, obviously encouraged to take their pictures and pinned them up for all to see just how hammered they where and that is why you would not find me in a place like this on an evening, I like a drink and I have had bars, but I never encouraged this, its very intimidating and old hat and who wants to see that? A selfie gone mad and tells you something about the people and managementThere were of course the normal big screens for sport, which I cant abide in pubs, but good for those who want to watch it. Went on a Saturday night. It was really busy. Drinks were priced well. I know it is a bar but it could do with a good clean. If I was in the area again I would go back to see if it was any better. (Not being from the area I did wonder why this was the only bar that seemed to have a doorman?!)

Went for a drink and found it has changed a lot since my last visit, it is ok I am sure for younger people but found it very noisey as I am older it would only be a day time stop while in Pickering.

Great bar, great selection of drink and very reasonable priced. Best of all its opened late and allows dogs.Great went here every day on our visit

Lots of choice in beers, wine, cocktail and excellent coffee. No in house food but you can order in the daytime and a local café will bring your food down the street for you.

Lovely pub in my view one of the the best pubs in Pickering. Seem to have got the balance right between modern and traditional. Bar staff were friendly good choice of cocktails and a few special offers. A nice relaxed atmosphere and well worth a visit

we went in here three or four times for a drink it is nothing special just a bog standard wine bar, but convenient to where we were, downside loads of flies, barman told us it was because of a local poultry farm

Yes! what a great bar! Nice and busy bar with friendly bar staff and a great relaxed atmosphere, the busiest bar in Pickering by a country mile. A bottle of Sav Blanc is £14.50 which was good great value - the wine was perfect. Nice conservatory to watch sky sports.

Pleasantly surprised as the football was on the TV and was expecting to be annoyed by it, but the sound was down so we were able to enjoy a nice drink and talk without the distraction. Seems to be a great place for the young people to hang out, much larger than first appears.

Stopped here for a couple of drinks, no issue with taking the dog in, nicely decorated, airy and fresh! Could have spent the afternoon here!

Terrible staff and bad management. Very rude nothing like an excuse me when trying to reach over for glasses instead shoving our chairs out of the way whilst we were sat down. Recommend The Station for quick service and The Bay Horse newly re-vamped and good beer.

Not sure if the barman wanted us here or not, but we were one of two parties in the place and the barman didn't acknowledge us at all. We assumed he was trying to avoid serving us, so we left and went in a much more friendly place further down road. If you like a little customer service then avoid this place

Walked in with parents and wife, empty, manager didn't even acknowledge us but watched us walk in we waited at the bar and he continued to have his back to us making a coffee, we waited, he ignored, we waited, he ignored......5 to 10 minutes passed, we felt stupid for actually standing there, the the guy actually followed us out after and stood outside for a fag! Clearly he wanted to smoke more than serve us, explains why the place is so empty on a Saturday lunchtime!?

I dislike the fact that this place doesn't score highly on the Food Standards Agency hygiene quality rating system, but for an occasional coffee and snack whilst out shopping is fine, with comfortable arm chairs available.

5 of us went in for an evening drink, and there was a selection of 3 real ales on the bar. We tried them all and they were all good! The lay out of this place is interesting, as it has lots of little rooms, upstairs and down, and is quite intimate. We got a nice nook with sofas all to ourselves and had a very nice evening.

Popped in for a quick pint or two, some interesting draught ales and excellent Yorkshire lager on draught. My missus had a good selection of wines to select from. Nice atmosphere & friendly staff

Almost all the people in this town square tea room and wine bar were enjoying their voucher afternoon tea. Everything was freshly made and most enjoyable at a very good price

Although i would visit occassionally for drinks with friends i and they are now avoiding No 4 as it seems to have lost its way...we now go to The Buck at Thornton or to the White Swann for a much nicer homely atmosphere and far nicer staff.

We didn't eat here but found ourselves drinking in here every afternoon during the recent war weekend, as they have great window seats in which to do some people watching!!There was a good atmosphere with tourist & locals mixing in. The staff were all friendly & very efficient. We'll return again next year! Thanks

I was surprised to see bad reviews of this place as we had called in for afternoon tea and found the staff to be welcoming and the decor pleasant. It is a good cross over between afternoon tea and evening bistro so we were all well served. We didn't eat here so maybe the other reviews are justified but we really liked it!

We thought this looked a very nice place - how very wrong.... Seven of us ordered drinks (2 adults and our five children aged 16 down to 12). We then order food, nothing difficult - sandwiches and a couple of other meals). After 45 minutes we enquired as to the whereabouts of our meals - we were told five minutes. They did appear but were not up to much, very poor presentatioon and very little ingredients all round. One order was wrong and when we questioned it the manageress was quite agressive (she had taken our order). Another ordered appeared to have been forgotten altogether. When questioned the forgotten order appeared with an ungracious attittude from the manager - the wrong order did not re-appear at all. I asked a male member of staff if my son was going to eat at all and he said he would ask the manager. He re-appeared some minutes later saying that the missing ingredient (bacon) would have to be purchased. At this point I told him to forget it and that we would be leaving and not paying. My daughter had not quite finished eating, but the manager saw fit to storm across the restaurant and physically remove the remains of her meal from underneath her, whilst my daughter was midway through a fork-full of food! "You're not paying for it, you're not having it" she shouted. At this my family and I left with the manager still shouting and ranting at us. I have never experienced such appalling service from a member of restaurant staff let alone someone who claims she manages the place. I am horrified at the treatment of my daughter. This woman should be dismissed immediately. I recommend that NO ONE EVER GO HERE - AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Upon ordering at the bar, I specifically requested a wheat and gluten free menu option to be told that the king prawn and chorizo salad on their menu might not be gluten free, I asked if they could check with the 'chef' and I'll use chef in inverted comma's since when the bar guy returned he told me that he couldn't guarantee that a salad would be gluten free since king prawns came from THE SEA.. no s**t sherlock but they don't grow in a field of wheat either!At this point, I told them everything on their menu contained wheat products and it seemed they did not want our business either, so we got up and left.The owner also was very arrogant and was claiming he could serve burgers made from minced steak cooked rare because it was steak mince and no bacteria could of touched the meat.. I think he ought to think again about what he is talking about because clearly he is very wrong!

We had a late lunch here and the food was excellent, as was the service. I would recommend the Piri Piri Chicken Burger, definitely had a kick to it. The vegetarian linguine and the fish and chips and fresh fish fingers and chips also got the thumbs up. The only disappointment being that there was not a lot left to choose from in terms of desserts. We sat in the rear of the restaurant which has a glass roof which gives it an outdoor feel, really nice.

Very tasty food with many original dishes on offer & pleasant service. Everything cooked to order & sweets were all homemade. Well worth a visit.
