Excellent service, disappointing Sunday lunch, slight redemption with an excellent sticky toffee pudding and good service. The three roast lunch had a very small piece of chicken and two small single slices of pork and beef, side of veg. Meat was disappointing, chicken dry, the beef fatty and the pork was fine. Veg cooked well and the service was very good, great with kids as well. Lovely setting, very disappointing lunch, think it was about £26 for the main so not cheap and offered very poor value for money. Kids meals were very good and the sticky toffee pudding for pudding was superb.

Staff there are meticulous and very attentive to guests treating them with fantastic individual needs. We have been here lots of times and every visit has been the same. My son had his wedding night at No. 19 and my husband plays golf here which hosts the most fabulous course. Looking forward to visiting again soon also I’ve booked tea for two for my mam. My wife rang early this morning and managed to book a table for us for Sunday lunch today. Probably thankful for the fact that Newcastle Utd were playing later and lots of potential customers were going to see the match. Anyway. Arrived in good time. Emily, our greeter and server was friendly and efficient. Lovely girl and had a nice table for two for us inside, overlooking the Swans nest outside. Nice feel about the place. Drinks served double quick and then we ordered two Roast loin of Pork dinners. The food was gorgeous. Plenty of it and cooked to perfection. After eating we sat outside for a while to finish our drinks before driving back home to watch the “Toon” win splendidly against Man Utd. A lovely day, spent in your classy restaurant. Look forward to coming over many times this year now that the weather is improving. Thank you to all.

Wedding anniversary lunch. Arrived on time and ordered quite quickly, however the main course took about 30 mins to arrive, which we weren’t to bothered about, as they were very busy. Meal was excellent, and the sweets were delicious. Only slight negative was the golfers coming in and out but it is the golf club clubhouse. My wife’s only negative comment was that all the light fittings and lamp shades were covered in dust!

No 19 is advertised as serving 'comforting home food' in a relaxed environment. To be clear, this is simply AN Other Golf Club bar/grill and not somewhere to spend the evening unless you have just finished a round or have a room in the hotel. That said, the restaurant was clean, the staff friendly and despite the Weatherspoon-esque menu was satisfactory for the price.

No estoy dispuesto a volver.

Nice surroundings and location. Service poor, very slow and each time we wanted to order or request something we had to signal to staff. Not enough menus so we had to wait. As a group of 7 and the restaurant wasn't full, it seems a little odd.2 baskets of dull chewy bread cost £10! It tasted and had texture of cheapest bloomer loaf you could find.Cheese soufflé starter was excellent, very rich and tasty.Steak was chewy served with greasy hand cut chips also large fried mushroom and half a tomato!£3 extra for a tasteless sauce. The dish would have been very dry without it. Sadly, the main course did not match the quality of starter.

First the positives: the food from the lunchtime specials menu (£16.50 for two courses, £20 for three) was very good with a reasonable choice to suit most palates. The starter cheese soufflé with a parmesan cream sauce was a meal in itself and the chicken main course, piled on potato and onion purees, both pretty and a filler. Those of us who had desserts were rather disappointed - the peach melba, a small portion of mousse with a few raspberries, bore no resemblance to the original and the treacle tart was dominated by the accompanying clotted cream. I left the oversweet pastry case. The main menu is pub choices - fish and chips, burger, steak, sandwiches - with bistro prices. My fault for not keeping up, but if you dined at Close House in the past, this is a very different beast and not terribly easy to find. My satnav led me into a dead end in Heddon on the Wall ('no entry to Close House') and the signing on the estate could be improved. One of our party got totally lost and never arrived. The restaurant is a glasshouse in the middle of the vast golf course, has terrible acoustics, golf on a big TV and, on the day we went, below-par service. There was a party of around 20 on the table behind us and I couldn't hear conversation from our seven. Although we had pre-booked, the staff did not seem able to cope with the amount of diners and the golfers arriving for food on the terrace. After no attention whatsoever for 20 minutes, we had to request menus. Not to mention an outrageous £10 for 'four' portions of bread (for seven though we didn't define how many it was for) - a total of 12 slices of mediocre bought-in loaf. I was also taken aback that my debit card was 'swiped' by the server, not me.If you like golf you will like the restaurant. If not, there are plenty of places in the North East with food of the same standard.

A lovely restaurant overlooking the golf course, good food and drinks, all reasonably priced. However, the front of house definitely needs some training. The quality of the service was not one you'd expect at Close House. First, we were not shown to our table, was just told our reserved table was in the corner. The waiter was asking for our drinks order when we were still trying to sit down and was giving us the menu at the same time. Bread plates and cutlery were not cleared for desserts. I never run out of superlatives to describe somewhere I have frequented but it is getting closer when I write a review about one of my favourite places - Close House. If you have read previous reviews I have submitted you know how I never need an excuse to visit and now look for just the slightest of excuses such is my affinity with this place. This occasion in particular was my Annual Charity Golf day and it was simply outstanding from my early arrival to my departure the next morning having had the absolute pleasure of staying in one of the luxury courtyard rooms - a review of which has already been submitted and please read it after which you will want to stay. The staff here will always go the extra mile and some to ensure the service & food are without fault throughout the day and it was nothing short of outstanding. On arrival I was greeted by Jonny & Kerry from Golf Services who both ensured that the day got off to a positive start by having everything organised from the scorecards to the buggies and helped me significantly which was as always greatly appreciated. The service throughout the day was simply superb with nothing at all being too much trouble for any of the staff and special mentions must go to Linzi, Lizzie, Hayley, Mathew & Cameron - apologies if I have missed anyone but you know that you make the visit complete with your professional and extremely courteous approach and you all worked tirelessly throughout the day and your efforts are always greatly appreciated as always. The food from breakfast to evening meal was simply scrum-diddly-umptious as always and can teach other golf clubs a thing or two about food quality and standard of service. This is a place you will never get tired of visiting as the surroundings the food and the staff will always make you want to come back for more -so eat your heart out Oliver as I always want more !!My golf day for next year was booked before I left such is my confidence in knowing how much people will enjoy being a part of it as much as I do.I have already been back with a further visit planned shortly. So keep up the great work Linzi and the Team and see you soon.

I visited here with family and friends for my fathers birthday. There was a mix up with the menu as the offers available in the restaurant didn't match the offers detailed online. Initially the waitress fobbed us off however having found the deal online the manageress honoured it 2courses and a bottle of wine for £40. The choices on the specials menu were limited but we were allowed to pick from the main menu and that was plentiful. Everyone said their food was tasty, the fish and chips looked fab and the spaghetti with prawns was delicious. We finished off with sticky toffee pudding which was to die for.The portions sizes for all courses were large and very filling. Overall the food was great. The restaurant was quiet so the service was attentive. There was a wedding going ahead next door but we were made aware of this when we called for our reservation. The only thing that I would say let the evening down was the wedding party's fireworks. The fireworks I'm sure were fantastic but the hotel should have ensured that the wildlife were cleared before setting off the fireworks. Obviously this is no fault of the restaurant staff but it was dreadful to watch the wildlife scatter with fright, in fact a duck flew straight into the restaurant window it was that petrified. Luckily one of the hotel staff was able to help it back to the lake after the fireworks and it appeared unharmed but really why have wildlife on a lake if you're going to allow fireworks right beside it. It really is cruel. Anyways a lovely meal, a lovely setting, good service and a good price but really felt disturbed about the poor duck! Thanks Laura

We ordered two smoke salmon starters, four Roast Beef meals, and a Roast Pork. The salmon was good, and was a good size portion. Everyone enjoyed the beef which was cooked to there liking, and the Pork was awful, consisting of mainly large slices of fatty undercooked meat. The vegetables were good and plentiful, with the exception of the Brussels sprouts which were undercooked and far to firm. We ordered two Sticky Toffee Puddings which were very nice. We ordered some white sparkling wine, which was very nice, but weren't able to order a second bottle as they only had one bottle in stock. They offered us a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which we enjoyed. Unfortunately however as we were sat in the members bar, there were many golfers enjoying an after round drink, and comparing scores etc etc from table to table, the result was you couldn't actually hear ourselves speak on our table. At the end of the day its the Golfers Bar and they pay a lot of money for the privilege of using it, so why oh why were we sat there trying to enjoy an intermit meal with my wife and elderly Parents ??? The chairs were very heavy and were difficult for elderly people to negotiate, and the table was far to big for five people to be heard when surrounded by enthusiastic golfers. The staff were polite and attentive, but seemed to lack a professionalism that one normally expects at these venues. Theres been a big investment in this place, but it just lacks a polished performance.

We have enjoyed great dining at Close House but today a wedding steered us off to the golf club. We arrived and found a lovely comfortable area for drinks and were greeted warmly and served very efficiently. Menus covered all areas, anyone could find something to please. Husband enjoyed his mushroom/truffle soup and was delighted to find a chef with great taste buds and a properly seasoned soup. Our mains of pork and chicken were tasty and substantial. No room for a pudding. The service was excellent.

I love a but to eat her, especially with a cold bear in the terrace after a round of golf. Always excellent service and you've got to try the steak sandwich and chips!

After having a wonderful meal in Argent D'or we decided to try 19 and werent disappointed. We were shown to a table at the rear of the restaurant which we later discovered was for non-members of the golf club, sadly the weather wasnt great but the outdoor area looked very inviting had there been the chance of any sunshine. We enjoyed a nice, quiet meal in a good atmosphere. The waiting staff were very pleasant.

We recently had friends down for a visit so decided to book a table at no19. We wanted somewhere quite relaxed but with an atmosphere!!The food was amazing-the proper homemade chips were lush-everyone's food was cooked to perfection! We all had sticky toffee pudding and ice-cream for dessert, it was unreal. Definately in my top 2! Will most definately visit again!

The William IV on High street is a local pub in Gateshead that offer a decent range of beers and was one of several pubs that we visited on a day out around Gateshead. A solid old style boozer that is housed in a traditional pub style building'the interior is again a traditional pub interior with lots of good seating options and an outside area at the back with extra seating options. I don't know why but I adore going to pubs like this as it brings me back to when I first started drinking many years ago and most of the pubs I visited where like this. This pub was very busy when we visited as where most pubs we went to in Gateshead and when here we had a couple of bitters from the John Smith's brewery which were well served and priced. This is another superb local boozer and is well worth visiting as the staff were friendly and they offer a well priced range of beers and is very easy to locate from High Street bus stop it's a minute's walk.(This is my first review of the William IV). Opening Hours. Monday-Thursday-10.00-23.30. Friday-Saturday-10.00-00.30. Sunday-10.00-23.30. Nearest Bus Stop. High Street bus stop.
