No1 Cromer & Ice Cromer in North Norfolk

We came in for Lunch today and want to start off by saying that the location is idyllic, the food is delicious and most of the staff are wonderful. However, our meal was completely bulldozed by one member of staff (don’t know her name, elderly, black hair, heavy makeup). Not only would she not leave us alone for the duration of our meal which was very off putting, she proceeded to try to force feed me mushy peas using a dirty spoon off of the floor. At the end of our meal we were sitting and enjoying our drinks when she then took them from our table, we were considering getting coffees but felt very pressured to leave after such disastrous service. We are honestly embarrassed for you at No 1, that kind of behaviour was not very becoming at all…. What would have been the perfect meal out ended up being a complete nightmare.

Superb Fish and Chip shop, recommended by locals that we bumped into. We were not at all disappointed. Cod was perfect and the chips were plentiful.

Excellent food, friendly service. light batter, very fresh fish, I had lemon sole, crispy fries. Very good for gluten free. Good coffee. smaller portions than usual for fish and chips but still plenty.

Thought we'd have a trip out to Cromer and eat at No1 downstairs. Walked in plenty of free tables but after 5 minutes not a single member of staff had acknowledged us, in fact one member staff came and got a menu and deliberately looked the other way avoiding any eye contact. At this stage we left and had a lovely meal at Tides Bistro.

I would have scored zero, but your site does not allow this. The chips were soggy and cold with some scraps, the batter on the fish fell off and was soggy, the mushy peas were good. We made a special trip from Lechlade, had we known this we would not have bothered. We don’t think your friend James Martin would have eaten it!!

Often use the takeaway when we visit Cromer, unfortunately this is the second time we have had overcooked tasteless fish and undercooked chips. So disappointing as they used to be so good.

Oh dear a huge disappointment from a family favourite. Take away Fish & Chips Bland chips! The cod was thin & probably previously frozen, colour & texture was off! Too add to the overall disappointment the condiments are served in tiny plastic sachets, why? !?! Not Eco friendly!

Great fish and chips. Busy time to visit so a small wait but worth it. Fish was perfectly cooked and not in the slightest bit oily or greasy. Chips followed suit so very enjoyable

After 11 years in UK I’ve decided to try fish &chips! Absolutely delicious fish and even better tartare sauce. We’ve been served by Brother, polite and helpful gentleman. Food came up pretty fast (15min). Thank you chef Dipesh and Brother for lovely first experience. Only downside was when the young girl came to take the payment. She looked annoyed and absolutely without any interest. The sunset is beautiful from here.

Very over priced cold chips chicken and chips £18:50 plain chicken and cold dry chips, messy bathroom broken flush, tempura prawns very heavly battered, and greasy! . Never again!!

Having visited before and had a great experience, we were really looking forward to visiting again. Warm welcome to the and quickly seated by a young Asian waiter, he is a credit to you, so polite and smiley. Order quickly taken and food soon appeared. Not bad fish but chips were hard and tasteless. Not the quality I remember from last visit. Not bad but a £40 lunch meal could have been better and easily replicated cheaper in a local pub.

Number 1 no way this place is charging Yarmouth prices and its food is real bad 😑 and I don't put up with this so I'll never go there again!

Very poor experience, I always contact the venue if I have had a negative experience, before leaving a negative review in order for them to be aware of the issue and have an opportunity to apologise but as they couldn't be bothered to respond here, I have no option, Issue 1, pre-ordered surf and turf only to be told 48hrs notice wasn't long enough to get steak in! No other option offered. Issue 2, awful service with missing items and one meal completely forgotten. Issue 3, one of our party was very ill afterwards. As I received no response from the restaurant I can only assume they do not care and that was the general feeling we were all left with after this visit.

Number 1 it certainly isn't rather like Eric's in holt they are to expensive like Yarmouth price and the food is terrible 😑 and revolting the best chippy certainly isn't this place as like like Mary Jane's it's gone to pot as the best chippy in cromer was elsewhere and they no longer exist!

I have been visiting No.1 since it first opened and have always been impressed by the quality of the food, the size of the portions and the service. Sadly 2 out of 3 have gone so far down hill I’m unlikely to return until I see an improvement in reviews as there have been quite a few like my own recently. We usually opt for mini fish and chips, in the past it has been lovely flakey white fish, light batter and a pretty decent size. Today it was a tiny piece of fish, more grey than white, too much batter and far fewer chips than in the past. On a positive note, the service was excellent and quick, but that is probably because it is the first time I have ever got a table without a queue and the place was not that busy. Makes me wonder why…… Come on No.1, what’s happening? You used to be exceptional, now you are using cheaper ingredients and less of them, I’d rather pay a bit more and get the sort of food you used to dish up. And before you ask, I didn’t mention all this at the time as it would have upset my dining companion so I paid, tipped (the girls were faultless) and left. Mary Jane next time perhaps!

Very unwelcoming staff. No hello or pleasantries. We waited ages for anyone to come and take our order. The food was disgusting. Tasteless fish, ludicrously small portions, soggy scampi. The waitress didn’t bring any cutlery so I asked for some and she threw it onto the table and strutted off. We sat with dirty plates in front of us for over 15 minutes whilst the staff stood around laughing. We had to ask to pay and wade through a disgusting floor full of old chips to get out of the door. Had a half term day out at the coast and stopped for fish and chips on the way home. We have wanted to try this famous chippy a few times but to be honest every time we have tried the queue has been too long and we’ve ended up going somewhere else. We took it as a good sign though and were keen to try it and so on a chilly February day we headed that way and sure enough no queue. We still had to wait ages though, about 20 minutes from ordering which was annoying but assumed as it was quiet everything needed to be freshly cooked so fair enough. First disappointment was that they don’t put salt and vinegar on before they wrap, they give you sachets of both to takeaway which I don’t personally like. Overall the food was very disappointing, fish was small, batter was soggy, sausages had a very funny texture and taste and the curry sauce was very runny. I was glad I hadn’t stood for hours in a queue to get this disappointing food and we won’t be visiting again.

Called in 6.15 on a Tuesday, not too busy but good atmosphere. Had the Small fish & chips each (plenty enough for us) quality was superb, the batter is the best around.

A little more expensive than other fish and chip restaurants but for that you get a wider menu choice and a nice, bright environment with sea views. Portions are enormous, the 'mini fish and chips' was plenty. Chips are excellent. Signs warned that food was individually prepared and to expect a bit of a wait, but ours seemed to arrive pretty quickly despite being a busy lunchtime. I appreciated the dogfree policy. I don't know when it became acceptable to take dogs into places serving food but I'm now making choices based on dog policy.

Have eaten here several times and it has always been excellent. As I have a small elderly appetite I usually have the mini fish and chips which has always been cod before. Was warned by waitress that it was pollock and the day we visited and it was awful. A very thin oddly shaped piece of fish which tasted awful. Disappointing as every one else’s cod and chips was excellent.

We sat downstairs by a window and had the best fish and chips ever. We were there for lunch for Valentine’s day. The setting is awesome, the service was fantastic and the food was amazing.

The staff were really good at the takeaway counter but my plaice was awful. The skin side had no batter on it so it was soggy on the bottom. It also had an unpleasant flavour. The others cod were better but none of us had enough chips with our fish. Disappointed overall and won’t be eating here again.

No 1 Cromer is my favourite fish & chip shop, I usually get a take away from here and it’s very nice. But today I went in and had a sit down meal, I was surprised at the size of the piece of cod 😳 it was massive, please see photos for details. Visited today with my husband. As this restaurant is owned by renowned chew Galton Blackeston was expecting a very good experience, however it was anything but. Decor was very uninspiring, more like a second rate cafe. Yea was served in a very watermarked metal teapot, likewise the milk jug. Would have expected a proper teapot at these prices.
