I had a lovely mum-to-be massage at the spa (I wasn't staying at the hotel). The venue is really luxurious, dark and cosy to relax you beforehand. You can sit down, listen to relaxing music and grab some water before your therapist collects you. I had Mal who was lovely - really friendly and informative with a gentle manner and tone. The massage was probably the best I've had. Great pressure, felt productive, covered all the sections I'd have hoped for. Ended with a lovely calming facial and head massage. I really enjoyed it. I also got a little sample of the rose and jojoba oil she used and super personal notes about recovery which is a nice touch. My skin was left glowing and I had none of my typical pregnancy aches by that evening.

The most incredible staff and service is impeccable! The food is amazing and worth every penny!! Especially the beef dripping chips!!

Called in to the Spa. Excellent service! Then went to the bar to have some light bites/small plates. Scallops were delicious & the oysters and tacos! Coffee also gorgeous too. ALL staff extremely helpful and welcoming! Just wish there was a pool but that’s all! Worth a visit & very close to shambles etc!

This was a beautiful hotel with spacious and attractive rooms. Record players were included in each room with a large selection of music available next to the front desk. Water was provided in the rooms each day, along with an impressive selection of candy, chips, drinks, and ice cream available for free in the upstairs pantry. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent, but be sure to check the start time and make a reservation. We did not eat dinner here because of the pricing. Location was also excellent. It was about a 12-minute walk to the train station and a 10-minute walk to the wall. Uber rides were also plentiful. The extra bike service to pick up our bags at the train station was a brilliant touch and much appreciated. My only suggestion for improvement would be to upgrade the mattresses. But we will definitely be back!

We had another amazing stay here and were lucky enough to stay in one of the suites. The staff are incredible and the food delicious! Proximity to the city centre is the icing on the cake! We’ll be back..

We stayed for 2 nights. We felt instantly welcomed and staff were so attentive! Rooms were cosy and clean. Location is great for going into York and has on street parking for £5 a day. We would definitely visit again

Great location close to Bootham bar and to cathedral. Both easy walk. Room and food first class

Nice hotel, great location and lovely spa treatments but unfortunately noisy so not ideal for a peaceful getaway. I would recommend more suited to families rather than couples.

Gorgeous hotel with fantastic rooms. Very close to the centre of York. Staff are very attentive and polite. You feel very welcome here. The pantry is such a nice touch. We asked about the heating in the room and the staff sorted it out instantly. Cannot fault the service. We booked the suitcase pickup from the station and that was brilliant!! We would come again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful place to stay for a few nights as a birthday treat for my husband. The staff are incredibly welcoming, the building is grand yet homely, the decor is understated luxe, beautiful warm colours and textiles. Reminded us of The George in Rye in terms of decor and vibe. The bar is a dream, cosy in the afternoon with the fire on and perfect for a pre dinner cocktail. Great service, fantastic wine list, strong and well made cocktails, and decent prices. The 'help yourself pantry' was a dream, and given we are both vegan, the staff put special chocolates in our room to make up for pantry ones containing milk. Underfloor heating in the bathroom, need I say more?! Record player and eclectic vinyl selection in each room, quirky and lovely touch. Restaurant is beautiful with lovely service. We were made to feel really special. Only negative was a hard to pour from kettle; water went everywhere. 10 minute stroll into town, secure parking for £25 per night which is punchy but standard for York. Would absolutely return, and looking forward to trying the Margate one which is very local to us. 10/10.

We stayed here on a Saturday night in January 2025 with our two children and our dog. The hotel was exceptionally good, I can’t recommend it highly enough. The service was really lovely and they couldn’t have been more helpful - for example, my husband did a running race on the Sunday morning and it finished after we had checked out, but they let him have a shower in another room. As we were leaving, I asked if the lovely lady (Suzanne) on the front desk knew where the children’s robes were from - she didn’t but said she would check and before we got home, we had an email with details of them. We stayed in the Clifton Suite which was perfect for a family of four plus dog - the children’s sofa bed and z-bed were wonderfully comfortable, the adult bed was huge and very comfortable, and the room was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. The children absolutely loved being able to help themselves from the complimentary pantry and our nine year old was delighted to find a Yoto audio player with loads of stories and some books on her bed when we arrived. The dog had a comfortable bed as well as bowls provided, as well as a packet of snacks which she loved, which is unusual as she is very picky. There was a grassy area for dog walking a few minutes walk away (probably not really off lead walking unless you have incredibly good recall as there was a busy road by it) and there were details of a longer walk in the room. The car park was easy to find and felt secure. I would absolutely stay here again and would like to visit the other hotels in the chain. I would highly recommend it.

We stayed for 2 nights here with our dog. Doggy bed ,bowl and treats was provided which was a lovely touch! The room was beautiful and super clean. All of the staff are so friendly , welcoming and professional! The service in the pearly cow was impeccable! Fast and professional but had a calm feel to it even though it was busy! The spa is an amazing spot with such skilled therapists! Huge thank you to Sophie for looking after us! We felt so looked after during our stay it was the perfect choice for a relaxing city getaway!

Lovely hotel, room was lovely and clean, food was fantastic, staff were all friendly and helpful. I wasn't very well when I was staying (completely unrelated to the hotel) and all the staff were so nice and accommodating and made me feel a lot better.

I've stayed many places in York. The Grand, The Hilton and Malmaison. No1 is true to its name it really is the best hotel in York. The staff are amazing The building quirky and cosy and a free pantry with as drinks ice-cream and snacks. We were also lucky to have had a treatment in the Spa, Sophie and Suzie were professional and trained well I hate to admit it but I was so relaxed I fell asleep for a moment great treatment ;) Great stay thank you Ricky and Jess x

Quick walk into town and the staff are always happy to help without fuss. Nicest hotel I've been to. Overall amazing place to stay in York.

Location is great, parking on premises with prior booking and 20 pound fee. Room specious, tastefully decorated, modern yet traditional, good quality furniture, fully equipped room. Additional pantry with snacks that is complimentary is a great addition thoroughly enjoyed the sweets. Would visit again.

Had an amazing stay here with our 1.5 year old. Beautiful hotel tucked away from the busier areas of York. Cozy room and they really went above and beyond to make our little guy at home. Hands down the best kids amenities we’ve ever had at a hotel! Thank you so much for the hospitality.

A beautiful hotel with super-friendly, efficient staff and delicious food. Our dog Millie has never been more spoilt - the 'dog friendly' tables at breakfast had so much space for her to stretch out and enjoy her sausage breakfast! The veggie Sunday roast was spot on and the beds very comfy, too. Would absolutely stay here again, thank you 😊

A place that has thought of everything before you and for you. Definitely my favorite among the hotels I've stayed in so far. Its proximity to the center, friendly staff, and elegance of the room were all perfect. I wish we could go back to the beginning and stay again <3

Myself and my partner have just returned from a stay at this absolutely amazing place. The beautiful building, fabulous food, nice and friendly staff. Loved the decor, the little quirks and complimentary touches ( yes we raided the sweetie pantry 😊) The nostalgic record player in the room took me back to my youth ! ( the Northern Soul LP was my favourite 😀) We will definitely be returning for our next trip to York .

For my birthday my husband and I stayed at No1 GuestHouse in the Clifton suit. It was amazing, you have to checkout the complimentary Pantry! WOW. We also had the Herbal Healer 90 Spa treatment by Sophie and Holly. The treatment was the best massage I have ever had, Sophie made my birthday extra special with some thoughtful bubbles and arranged for us to have afternoon tea in the lounge. I highly recommend the treatments in the Spa and cannot thank and praise Sophie enough! She truly is an amazing massage therapist! It is my favourite place in York to have a massage!

Ideal for a visit to York 5 to 10 minutes walk to the centre

Lovely boutique city break. Room was comfortable and very stylish, with a lot of attention paid to detail. We also really enjoyed the communal snack cupboard 😊 Would definitely recommend. walking distance to York city centre, without being too surrounded by all the noise.

We stayed in one of the suites for a mini baby moon. What a lovely little trip! We loved our room, it didn't feel like your standard hotel room at all, but so much more character and a touch of luxury with the beautiful freestanding bath that was heaven to soak in. Very much enjoyed three hours of pampering at their spa too! The hotel is very conveniently located for stepping out and exploring York.
