Corner Grill House in York

This restaurant is a small one with little seating but the steaks are absolutely amazing melt in your mouth blocks of heaven. I luckily got a table here whilst I was in York for business and I’m glad I chose this place for dinner. Excellent service too.

Lovely little place with fantastic food and drink

As my partner and I arrived, we were offered a table right next to the counter. I asked if we could sit by the window and was refused by the waiter, who said they were fully booked and couldn't move people around. We then proceeded to watch several other couples and families arrive and be offered a table of their choosing, including those by the window. The waiter then took our order making little condescending comments to hurry us up, even though we were not taking long at all, including "your two sides now quickly". He proceeded to be dry and unpleasant throughout the evening. Did not say thank you once. The food was average. Overpriced for what you get. My partner, for some reason had a much smaller portion of chips than mine. They looked like the McCain's oven cooked chips. A couple next to us returned their plates, as the meat was not cooked as ordered. Not the worst, but for the price and experience I won't be returning.

Absolutely fantastic find in the center of York. Tucked away between the main streets and the river, this little restaurant (which is actually quite big inside) packs a mean punch when it comes to serving steaks. We had the Salt Aged Rib Eye and the Porter House Steaks and they were the best steaks we've had in a long time. Beautifully seasoned and the mains included two sides of choice. Each steak meal priced at around £36, it was actually great value. Wine very reasonable priced and we enjoyed a delicious Malbec with our meal. Fantastic Service and very welcoming. Modern and clean interior. Not a place we could take our dog but all the same it was worth it! Great meal out.

Well, I wasn't sure where to go for a meal on my recent trip to York but after a quick search on TripAdvisor I thought this place had potential to be just what we were looking for. And I was not disappointed at all! The food was very well cooked, well presented and their kitchen team clearly knows what they're doing. the service from Emily was nothing short of perfection. The wine was also very well selected and varied, Very well done to all, we will be back 👌

Seabass and steak were fantastic tonight. Those potatoes under the seabass were amazing!

Visiting York from the U.S. My Husband and I shared the 20oz aged T-bone with 3 sides. The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. For side we got the glazed carrots, garlic mushrooms and creamed leeks. All delicious. The Waitress was polite and timely. Restaurant is warm, cozy and comfortable. I only wish they had more dessert options.

What an outstanding evening, my fiancé and I were in York for the night and decided before we even came to town we wanted to try your "life changing steak experience". Boy were we in for a treat, the server we had (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) was absolutely lovely, from the moment we walked through the door she greeted us with a smile and was extremely pleasant, friendly and knowledgable about each dish. The food was brought in a good time, the starters we had were the mixed grill and the creamy mushrooms, when I bit in to the mustard chicken I made a noise and my fiancé said "I've never heard you make that noise from chicken before" haha. It was delicious and not overpowered with mustard which I had worried about beforehand, the steak on there was cooked beautifully and the salad was just the right amount, you even supplied me with some fried bread to dip in my fiancé's mushroom sauce, top marks for that as its usually the other way round. Then came the steaks, my fiancé had the fillet and I had the 60 day salt aged rib eye. WOW. That's all I can say. It has to be tried to be believed, it was so flavourful and cooked to perfection. Your chefs truly are chefs and not just kitchen assistants, as with so many places these days. We have already been looking at when we can make another trip to York just so we can sample some other delights from your menu. Thank you all so much for a truly wonderful evening. We will be back.

Just popped in as a solo hungry fella after work. Was v cold outside but inside was warm a welcoming. The hostess very polite & friendly.. I dined on an 8oz fillet & it was stunning. Cooked rare as asked... Side veggie n fries top notch.. Great quick meal at a great price... Deffo worth a visit.

Great food great service steak was amazing

Top class steak. We had some salt stored beef served blue with Parmesan fries and garlic mushrooms. A quiet Monday in York and the waitress was lovely, and kept the right level of attention and distance. Panna gotta for dessert, with a lovely wobble and beautiful fruit compote. Lemon possit was Fab too.

Amazing service- everyone was so lovely. The food was incredible! We will definitely come back when we return to York. Worth every penny.

Had the sharing plates for starters. All very good. Aged ribeyes for main. Also excellent. Sides and sauces v nice. Worth a visit.

Great steak and the service was excellent

Absolutely fantastic meal and atmosphere! We ordered the salt aged porter house and the rib-eye, both of which were beautifully cooked and very flavoursome. I highly recommend the truffle and parmesan fries and the creamed leeks as sides. I live in York and eat at a lot of the restaurants, and for me this was a stand out experience.

The owner started young, learning his trade and working his way up some of York's best kitchens and it shows. If you enjoy great meat this is the place.

I was staying at the Hilton around the corner and their restaurant said there is a 2 hour wait, so I immediately looked up where is a good steak place to eat near me, and Corner Grill House was the top choice. I didn’t hesitate and went straight there, at first I was told it is booked as well, and I would have to come back later, and to my luck someone just paid and I had the first available table. Service was amazing, the atmosphere was perfect, and the steak I had was exactly what I was looking for!! I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting great service and great food. You will not be disappointed.

Had a birthday meal with friends here. The steak was cooked perfectly, the sides are delicious and just as I was expecting. A good selection of wines, beers and soft drinks. Great experience, thanks 💯

I never had such a delicious, moisty and tender lamb as in this place. Worth a visit just for the taste of it. A very nice surprise

A bit pricey but the steaks were delicious. They ran out of the T-bone steak before we could order one, but we had the ribeye and the porter and they were tasty! Very nice service as well.

Not the cheapest, but very good steaks indeed. Beef cheeks were perfect. Little bit of staggered service with some courses coming out of step, but much apology and everything done to sort quickly.

Wife and I had the Christmas menu, she had pumpkin soup and venison haunch, I had goat cheese tart, lamb roast and we shared my sticky toffee pudding. Everything was excellent, and well worth the cost. Sticky toffee especially was spectacular. Friendly and attentive staff, who accommodated us even though we had no reservation.

This is our second time here and first time since the move to the bigger restaurant...glad to say that the quality and service is still as good. Sabina was amazing and looked after us extremely well. The food was awesome, prawns to start and steaks for main were perfect. Highly recommend and we will be back next time we are in York.

We spent a good evening in this restaurant which offers starter/main course or main course/dessert menus but also all kinds of grilled meats. We opted for chicken which was very good. It was served with parsnips and potatoes. The sauce was very good. For dessert, we tasted the brownie, served with a scoop of ice cream: very good too. Good idea to offer wine by the glass in 175 ml and 250 ml. Smiling and fast service.

Visited during York Restaurant Week and took advantage of the 2 courses of £20. Absolutely amazing food and service. And worth it's full price so will deffinatley return.

Delightful restaurant where the staff really make you feel welcome and are really engaging. I loved chatting to the Waiter and the Host in between courses. The food is just as perfect. I ordered the Baked Mushrooms for starters and it was a treat, so full of flavour. Yum, I'll be attempting this at home. The Salt Aged Porter House steak was cooked to perfection and just melted in the mouth. I can't recommend this place enough, just make sure you make a reservation as it is rightly very popular.

Disappointing steaks ! All were not cooked as requested and were lacking in flavour! Shame given the restaurant had good reviews , so all in all not a great experience!

I remained hungry because they did not bring my order

First, the steaks taste really BAD. We ordered one rare steak and two medium steaks. One of the medium steak tastes same as the rare one. Moreover, all the three steaks taste BAD. Second, we booked for 7:15pm while they recorded it as 6:45pm, and they questioned us why we were late. We showed them the confirmation email which shows it is 7:15 whereas they didn’t say sorry for their behaviour. I guess this restaurant changed their chef or their steaks supplier. They were really good when we came to this restaurant last time before they moved, which is the reason we chose them again. However, they are so bad this time.

Just returned to york and loved the new location and decor,food was amazing, steaks cooked to perfection,and the creamed leeks omg fabulous 👌 all finished of with a bottle of muddy boots chardonnay. The staff are so attentive and the manager interacts with customers ,I would give this place Ten 🌟

Beautiful mid week meal last week. We shared a platter for starters which came with some lovely bread for mopping up all the tasty sauces-I particularly loved the creamy prawns. We'd then all chosen steaks for mains which we all decided were completely delicious. Super friendly service from the attentive waiter all made for a great experience - fab all round!

We went for the fixed menu and the star of the evening was the beef cheeks. Let me just say oh my God they were amazingly awesome. The sticky toffee pudding was so light. Definitely our new favorite place to eat and we will be back. The staff are really friendly as well.

Forget the steaks (even though they are good) and go for the beek cheek. You wont regret it.

Definitely one of the best steaks I've had (I chose the porter house, but by all accounts the others were great too) and great value for money with the 2x sides that come with it - pleased the whole group after a long day at the races. We were very impressed how well the staff did even though they were down 2 people! Will definitely come back!

Top quality food, best steak i have probably ever had and cooked to perfection, great flavours from the grill on the steak too, however a side of grilled broccoli would of been amazing. Cant wait to come back.

Excellent restaurant the first time we had booked since its move to new premises we were impressed lovely decor very tastefully done the two staff were very pleasant,Marek who served us was attentive and professional, could not fault the food or service when we are back in York this we will be our first port of call .

Marek looked after us this evening and was fantastic . So were the other staff and accommodated us no problem when we rocked up starving with no booking. Brilliant service, cracking food, nice wine. We made an excellent choice for our first meal out on our York holiday. Will definitely be back!

The food was out of this world as was the very nice staff. We went for our anniversary the staff had a helium happy anniversary balloon on the table, a lovely touch.

Except that I cooked it a little more than what I ordered. The taste and atmosphere were fantastic, including the wine that came with it.

Very welcoming place, great staff and excellent meal. Didn't have too long to wait between courses which is a nice change. Would recommend having a meal here there is nothing not to enjoy. (NZ🙂)

Really good would defenitely go back. I had steak Diane from the set menu as really was spot on. Mine was perfect my partner had from the normal menu and his steak was great but the amount of fries and veg he ordered was really not enough. I had lemon posset for afters and t was absolutely gorgeous. If my partners portion of sides was better it would have been perfect. The rose wine was really good quality a6perfectly chilled. Good service.

Food ok. Ate off 2/3 course specials menu. Starter of mushrooms or spicy prawns both in a really watery sauce, but tasty. Main of steak Diane, ok, and sea bream was tasty but plenty of bones in it. Staff were friendly, but bit obsessive coming over and asking if food ok. We enjoyed our meal, but probably wouldn't return.

Very nice staff and pleasant dining room. The food is ok but quite basic and overpriced - for that reason I would not go again.

Had a meal here at the weekend with my wife. The front of house staff (or owner!?) was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, the other waiters were a lot less attentive, and very casual. The menu is a laminated piece of paper, which does give off a cheap vibe, but for the £50 a head we paid, it is obviously not cheap food (we only had one course each). The fillet was excellent, and my ribeye was slightly over cooked (I asked for medium rare), but I still enjoyed my meal. Portion sizes were OK, but the sides could certainly have been more generous. The selection of beer was very restricted, and there was nothing on draught, which was a shame.

We visited York and had this booked in advance, the restaurant moved location a few days before our booking to a larger place and seemed to have made the transition seamlessly. The staff were incredibly welcoming and the service was swift and friendly. We both had the 60 day aged ribeye and it was stunning! Best steak I have ever had. If you come to York and don’t eat here, you’ve missed out!

Good steaks a little thin but taste makes up for it and the grilled vegs were fantastic. Worth a try when your ready for a Ribeye or beef cheeks.

This is an amazing place to visit. Great service. Food out of this world, waiter did a special set menu for us even though it wasn't the correct day. Small with great ambience. Understand they are moving to bigger premises in the centre of the city. Hoping they will still be as good

Service was great and the food was delicious. The only issue was that there was an excessive amount of bones in the fish. Other than that it was spot on!
