Delicious oven baked fish dishes! Service was great.

The food was excellent and fresh. We all had seafood which I belive is sourced locally. My halibut was excellent and 2 of the party had the cod. The servicce was prompt and friendly. I have been here a number of times and i would rate this as the best seafood resturant in Hastings/ St Leonards.

Had absolutely delicious food here on a day trip to Hastings - the fish pie was stellar (very cheesy!) and my friends’ meals were all great too. Also highly recommend the brownie dessert. Service could have been slightly quicker but we weren’t in a rush so it was absolutely fine for us; also a tiny bit quiet so best for a pretty chill group. But the food was really excellent. Well worth visiting.

Lovely fresh fish. And tasty pasta

Amazing fresh tasting fish. Warm and friendly service. Had the John Dory fillet in wild garlic and prawn sauce. Very nice sauce. Potatoes were a little dry but after mixing them in the sauce they tasted amazing. Sticky toffee pudding also very good

Great seafood restaurant in cosy surroundings

This restaurant was lovely. Lots of choice and plenty of non fish options. I had the crab salad which was really good so fresh and tasty followed by the Mariana pizza so good. would definitely eat here again. The staff were lovely.

Went there on new year's eve with family and friends. A proper delicious roast dinner of rib eye beef. Lovely food and really good value... You pay about the same as in a bog standard pub but it so much better so it's a no-brainer. Will be going back.

We have been to No8 on numerous occasions and highly recommend the restaurant to our visitors. So, just thought it was about time we paid them an official compliment here on T/A after having another delicious lunch, hosted by our friendly, polite and informative waitress Evie. From the very first time we visited No8 David the owner/chef was very welcoming and friendly. His culinary skills are great too. Each time we've been the menu was different with great choices combined with fresh produce and it's atmosphere is cosy and intimate. We will continue to return and recommend this little gem in Hastings.

Third visit here and as usual food and service is superb.

Food and service were great, I had the dover sole with lemon butter and it was fab. We went on a saturday lunchtime and it was very quiet, maybe they could encourage more people in by having a fixed price lunch menu. We had a lovely visit but it was a little pricey for a lunch.

Hidden little gem of a restaurant but such a lovely atmosphere and welcome when entering. Was greeted with a smile by staff and seated in a nice set corner overlooking the bar. Amazing choice of foods, specials were so varied randing with plenty of fresh fish of different varieties. Olives and rustic bread starter was the perfect size to start with, with fresh olives and a generous amount of balsamic vinegar to complement the bread. Wagyu burger was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing, with perfectly crisp and fluffy chips on side, would happily come back for this again as was so juicy and flavoursome. Finishing of with one of the tastiest tiramisu's I've had in while, was both perfect in flavour and presentation. Amazing little restaurant, can't recommend enough if in the area, and will be back.

Food and service by the waitresses was exceptional Although a little slow at the start and a little rushed at the end all in all we enjoyed our meal....... BUT . .. Don't ever call me a tw*t, as the chef patron did walking away from me, which he tried to turn round saying I called him one. He didn't realise I have a top of the range hearing aid which picks up any conversation from up to 200 yds away. Please please, do NOT give this undeserving owner a chance as we did. As we had good service from the waitress we tipped and commented on the chef and she raised her eyebrows.......says it all

We had Saturday lunch. The restaurant has a relaxed and friendly ambience, arguably somewhat rustic but comfortable in the grand manner. We received a warm and friendly welcome within seconds of arriving. The printed menu offers a plethora of proteins as well as vegetarian options, not sure about vegan. Then there's the Specials Board offering what we believed to be daily specials based on the fish available that day. We started with feta cheese olive and melon salad, and humous with special bread. We rated both plates highly. We both chose the Fish Pie from the specials menu and the pie was well stocked with fish suspended in a rich a flavourful sauce. To drink we chose cocktails which we must mention. So often these days cocktails are basically glasses full of ice and syrup with little alcohol; not so with cocktails at No. 8! They are what we would call traditional, potent cocktails and we enjoyed them immensely. The waiting staff were a young lady and young gentleman whose names, regrettably, we did not ascertain. Both were friendly, caring and interested in ensuring we had a lovely meal whilst not being too intrusive and we thank them. Our "litmus tests" for this restaurant resulted in very hi scores. We therefore thoroughly recommend this restaurant and next time we are in Hastings we are very likely to return to eat here.

We booked a table on a Friday night for 3 of us. We love seafood and wanted to try something different. We all had monkfish with parmesan mash, brocoli and hollandaisse sauce. We were all not only impressed with the speed of its arrival, but the quality was exceptional. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food and the family feel of the place made it extra special. It was also nice to see the chef and be able to compliment him personally. The desert menu was very good with something for everyone, however the sticky toffee pudding was the best we have had ever!!! They had a good back bar and cocktails on offer too

As a dog friendly establishment recommended online we visited in the week and we not dissatisfied! Service and food was amazing! Chatted to the owner who went out of his way to spoil our doggos and made to feel very welcome. Food was delicious, looked and tasted incredible! Highly recommended on all accounts.

I knew of this restaurant and had read good reviews. It’s surprisingly lovely! It may not be the coolest location - Hastings new town… A predominantly fish menu - on the Specials board (but many meat options). Generous portions, lovely food/presentation, lovely waiting staff ❤️, The town taxi rank round the corner. Really worth supporting, and a great Friday evening treat. Both my wife and I had fish from the specials board which which was cooked to perfection. The dessert were homemade and very enjoyable as well. I would fully recommend this restaurant.

We ate there on Friday night, having 2 amazing meals, especially the smoked haddock/poached egg dish! The fish soup to start was fantastic too! We had to go back the following night has we enjoyed it so much and it didn’t disappoint! The staff were friendly and the chef was great and came out to meet us! It is a very intimate space; we had scallop starters and mains, and the steak and scallop and crab linguine are just bursting with flavours. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the food. Also great service

Superbly cooked food and first class service. The restaurant was a little quiet and deserves to be busier as it offers excellent food at reasonable prices. Probably the best restaurant in Hastings for good food without being overcharged.

The food here is so good! They do amazing roast dinners on a Sunday - meat is cooked perfectly with a nice selection of perfectly cooked vegetables and a bowl of cauliflower cheese. The seafood is also amazing - my favourite is the fish pie which has scallops in it. The cocktails are very nice too. I recommend the pina colada! Big portions. The desserts are also very good. Lovely atmosphere and lovely people who will accommodate your requests as much as they can. If you haven’t tried this place you really should!

Disappointing meal- ambience good service good starters good but steak mean portion and halibut overpriced over cooked and very small portion especially as it was the most expensive special of the day at £23 - £10 was however taken off the bill in recompense - the skate was served with a little green and a few chips - not good value for money

Really pleased we tried No Eight. The welcome was really friendly, the ambience in the restaurant was intimate & cosy and the food was fresh & beautifully cooked. The service, ambience and interior decor were faultless. The food was well cooked but there was a distinct lack of variety to the standard side dishes. As I recall, all dishes came with mash and green beans apart from burgers. The monk fish was an extremely small portion for my expectations and served on a bed of mash: it lacked colour ( white on white ) . The baclava dish was very different : served hot in a pan with clotted cream I was horrified to se e a dog there as it seemed incongruous in that scenario. Pleasingly, the toilets are up a steep staircase well away from the downstairs eating area. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone without a limited budget and those with smaller appetites. Cost : One person's three courses plus coffee and one person 's two courses plus bottle of wine : £90 in total.

When reading the reviews I’m taken back as my experience and indeed my friends were totally different. There was no atmosphere, no interaction with staff. Food was poor and my mushroom starter sauce was split and mussels were tiny and many had their beards still on. Furthermore, wasn’t asked if any of the party had allergies. I enquired about gluten-free options and told that there was only 2, no pasta available to me. Yet when I booked was told there was plenty of options also says on website. Caters for allergies. At the end my friend paid her part on card and me and my mate paid rest in cash. Expecting the change back to leave as tip, if we so wished. The change never returned and staff just stood at the back. I didn’t worry about the money it was only about £8 it’s more of case they had expectation it was their right. I hope when reading this, the owners and staff will take on board what I have written. The restaurant itself is lovely and has potential but won’t continue unless the above is taken on board

Absolutely delicious! It's a very small restaurant with friendly and professional staff. We had the house white wine that was very well priced and went well with the fish. Everything was extremely well cooked and perfectly seasoned. I had the turbot from the specials menu which was absolutely amazing, the hollandaise sauce was devine and went superbly with the fish, delicious mash and perfectly cooked broccoli. We shared the sticky toffee pudding that was also great! I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return when visiting Hastings again.

Honestly, the best fish I’ve ever had so far. It was really amazing! We had the Catch of the Day - the brill and the crab & scallop pasta. The brill was so tender and fresh, with perfect creamy mash and broccoli. The hollandaise was the finishing touch. Would definitely recommend to come here for a lovely and tasty meal!

Amazing restaurant with fantastic menu service and cocktails. Great hidden gem that has a vast menu of local fish meats and vegetarian options. The specials included lots of fish dishes and I tried the monkfish special and it was superb Also I am able to highly recommend the Haddock with mash potatoes in a white sauce with a poached egg. Some of the best tasting haddock fish I have tried and would give any gastro fish restaurant a run for its money. Service was first class and the whole experience was excellent. Tonight I had the unfortunate experience of a poor lobster nuked into an inedible, tough, chewy state. Served with oil saturated chips that made 3am kebab shop fries seem gourmet. It was so bad, even the garlic butter didn't want to melt into it.

Terrific little restaurant, tucked away behind the seafront. They specialise in fresh fish, and they do it really well. Our John Dory was perfect, as were the starters and desserts. Service was friendly and efficient, all in all highly recommended.
