Next Door in Cheshire West and Chester

Not what we expected.,poor lunchtime menu, did not enjoy either starter or main course. We definitely chose the wrong eatery.

Amazing. We live locally and it's great to see places like this around. Amazing food, service and lovely hosts. Very deserving of all the recognition they receive.

The Tasting menu was heavenly, the food was superb, outstanding and a delight for all. The staffs knowledge, attention to detail was impeccable. The wine pairing was so skilful and the whole experience was perfect. Thank you to Ric ,Vicki and all the team for a wonderful evening in your beautiful historic restaurant.

Came up from London to take my parents to Next Door and we were blown away by the quality of the food and the brilliant service. The lunch menu (3 courses for £35) is an absolute bargain too. Highly recommeded - we can't wait to come back!

I’ve been waiting to try this place for ages and it didn’t disappoint. From the moment we arrived we were met with a warm welcome and excellent service throughout. The food was delicious and served to a very high standard. I can’t recommend high enough and I will definitely be returning.

I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the food served. We took on the tasting menu with matching wines, photo attached. The food just delicious, the wines were well chosen and complemented each dish perfectly. The wines were chosen and the reason for their inclusion explained by Tom, mid 20’s. If I’d known that much about wine at that age, the world would have been my lobster! Staff were young and knew what they were about. They made the evening a success. In short, Next Door is not to be missed.

My dad and I had a really lovely meal here on the weekend; the food was delicious and we spoke to the owner/ head chef who was very friendly and even offered to do two taster sized plates as I couldn't chose. All the waiters and waitresses were so friendly and professional. Special mention to the very dinky waitress who was so welcoming and excellent at her job. We will be back.

We went for lunch, fabulous food presentented beautifully in a relaxed atmosphere. We chose from the al a carte menu which was amazing value.

A lovely place. Greeted by friendly and attentive staff. Seated in small room off to the left, which was quiet and comfortable. Rest rooms spotless and we'll maintained. Opted for the seasonal tasting menu with wine pairing. Food was superb, wine complimented each course perfectly. Most highly recommended.

Stunning! We went last night and had the taster menu with accompanying wine flight. The food was outstanding. The service was impeccable. Definitely a lovely treat and the perfect evening.

This place is stunning! We love the cosy atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff and the food is absolutely outstanding. We have been back several times and we will continue to visit!

I went with a friend for lunch and really enjoyed the meal. Each dish was beautifully presented with a great variety of exciting flavours and made with fresh ingredients. Beautiful building and decoration and very professional, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. The lunch menu was very good value for money for the quality of the food offered.

We went at lunchtime last minute as part of a celebratory week. The first thought on entering is how quaint with open oak beams, but unlike other places these are real. Secondly was how reasonably priced the lunch menu is. It is slightly limited in the choice but frankly it made no difference the food was absolutely stunning as you would expect of Michelin Guide fare. In a rare event SWMBO had the cheese. Overall very happy and we will return to try the taster menu .

Took my nan here for a belated Christmas present as she loves food and rarely gets out. Most places we’ve visited before have been awful, and Next Door broke the curse! Every staff member was so friendly and helpful, also very knowledgeable about allergens. Food was so so perfect and all staff were friendly while delivering the highest level of service. Will go back here at every chance I get!

First class culinary experience. We went for a tasting menu, which was a journey through 7 different flavours, textures, and components. Each meal served on a hand made pottery, different for each meal. It was a memorable evening, good vibes in Next door. True gem on a map of Cheshire restaurants.

Truly an amazing experience. We went in on Saturday evening to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We had a tasting menu and one with wine pairing. The staff was very friendly and very knowledgable-especially about wine pairing. Food is a symphony in your mouth. A lot of different flavors. I love the vibe of the whole restaurant. You can see is made by people with passion.

BARGAIN ALERT! If you’re taking a trip to Cheshire Oaks any time soon, I would strongly recommend dropping in to a little town called Frodsham for this bargain of a Michelin Guide lunch! 3 courses for £32!!! We had the beef shin 😱 pork 🤤 and both sweet dessert options 🥳 Everything was beautiful, staff were lovely and the place itself is really cute. This is my new must visit for every Cheshire Oaks visit (only 15 mins away)

Excellent service, very friendly and attentive without getting in the way. Food is delicious, great flavours especially in the meat dishes as you'd expect for somewhere twinned with the best butchers in town (which happens to be next door, hence the name!). Highly recommended.

A memorable lunch time experience to celebrate a family birthday. Every course burst with multiple tastes. The juices and gravy with each course were full of flavour and yummy. The wine choice - Sicilian white, was fruity, juicy and fresh. We weren’t rushed into getting our orders to the chef and all cuisine questions answered knowledgeably and with enthusiasm. We’ll be back👍

We’ve recently moved to Frodsham and what a treat it is to have Restaurant Next Door on our doorstep. We all enjoyed the tasting menu and the paired wines were delightful, we’re looking forward to coming again!

Friendly staff in nice location. Portions are extremely small, tasty, but I’m sure could be more generous! Would not return for this reason.

For the money the food was great. £92 for a 3 course meal and 2 drinks each, not bad at all. Special mention for the carrots which were lovely. Something was missing to take it to the next level though. Maybe the deserts or service.

We have now twice taken the culinary journey of Richard’s monthly tasting menu and I feel compelled to review, rave and rebook. From the rustic charm emanating out from the undulating beams and cast iron fire place fittings; to the quaint character of the rear courtyard and retro waitress aprons. The moment you enter this wonderfully beautiful and quirky building to be greeted by enthusiastic and happy staff, you feel relaxed; in safe hands. Each member of the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Whether you have a complicated dietary or allergen request or just a simple preference to how you have your cocktail created, nothing is too much trouble. I won’t give complete plate breakdowns of the food, as their monthly changing menu is best sampled with a side dish of intrigue and anticipation. Some highlights include exceptional quality of meat and fish, brave and palate evolving pairing of flavours (strawberries with beef, cream cheese and ice cream) and creatively beautiful presentation and texture. Vibrant clashing colours, black pepper formed into croutons, gelled pickles, foams and sauces that compliment and bring together flavour combinations added carefully to your plate at the table by your server. Should you choose to take the tasting adventure then I highly recommend the wine flight to accompany. This is not a simple white wine and fish, red wine and beef pairing scenario. There is clearly time, effort and understanding that goes into carefully selecting the appropriate partner to each of Richard’s dishes by Vicki, sommelier of experience. Each glass is poured at your table before the next course and is explained by origin, grape, year and more importantly in taste and tone; specifically how it will evolve when taken with its paired dish. This is a restaurant of incredible modern invention nestled in a cosy cottage. The staff are friendly and casual in conversation, without losing professionalism or quality. It could quite simply not be replicated, it’s a family restaurant with the best food we have ever eaten. We can not wait to be back for next month’s tasting menu.

Superb fine dining in stunning surroundings

Yet again went for lunch with a friend. Booked the day before and they couldn't be more helpful as in this case my friend doesn't eat meat. Service excellent food superb... my friend said that the sauces for the main course were the stuff of master chef at its best. I cannot recommend this little home run restaurant enough.

We went today for lunch. The atmosphere was fantastic. The service was really good. The food tasted wonderful and was so well presented. I would highly recommend trying this place out. The team have done a wonderful job creating a cosy and chilled place to go for a meal.

We visited for a celebratory lunch recently. Several of us are serious foodies and we enjoyed the meal. Despite enjoying two courses, the younger couple felt compelled to get a snack immediately after lunch suggesting that the portions, while tasty and beautifully presented, may be a bit meagre.

Really special food in a relaxed space with friendly and helpful staff. Stunning flavours with clever visual presentation made this a voyage of discovery. Excellent and reasonably priced wine list. Only grump main portions were very marginally on the small size.

Discovered this gem on way to Chester. They did coffee after 7pm. A far better ry from the townie beer crowd which Frodsham is famous for in the evening. Very courteous and modern staff. Excellent atmosphere, cosy and felt like a casual Barcelona eatery. Changed one of the coffees with no fuss. Pity they are closed tomorrow. Would be back for pizza in a flash. We'll done to management and team.

I can't praise Next Door enough; probably the best service and food that I've ever had. The team were unbelievably accommodating to my dietry requirements, which is both incredibly rare at this high standard, but moreover testament to the chefs versatility in producing exceptional food ad-hoc. There's a genuine pleasure in making customers feel relaxed with absolutely to pretence. So surprised by this gem of a place. Thanks so much, 100% returning shortly.

As we come out of these difficult times, it was great to revisit this fabulous restaurant last week - a real treat for the senses !! It comes as no surprise that Next Door features in 2021's Michelin Guide - a richly deserved accolade from its inspectorate.

Absolutely incredible place. Got talking to the very friendly owner, couldn't have done enough for us. Told us some bits about the history of the building as well. Very interesting, very comfortable and cosy place. Highly highly recommended to anyone.

We came for lunch on a Saturday and were taken care of by Jack and Zara. Both of whom were fantastic, they are so friendly and attentive! Now for the food, what can I say apart from absolutely delicious!! The portion size is perfect and everything on the plate had so much flavour. We were also really impressed that the chef had designed a bespoke dessert to suit my mum’s dietary requirements. He even came to check that she was enjoying it which was a lovely touch! This place is truly faultless, the staff are so passionate and always go the extra mile to ensure the guests have the best possible experience! I couldn’t recommend highly enough!

Had friends over from Mallorca that have access to some amazing food so was nervous where to take than - should of been more confident! Absolutely amazing beef, service and atmosphere - I and they have eaten is some great places but without doubt the best food I’ve eaten - full stop!!

Visited Saturday 15th Feb, bringing 2 guests along who had never been before. As we've experiened before, the welcome is warm and friendly. There was a choice of a la carte or the Valentines taster menu (which you ave as a table). We opted for the tester menu and were not disappointed. Everything was made perfectly and looked stunning. The flavours in all dishes were all perfectly balanced, and effort had clearly been made to ensure there were complimentary textures. Service thoughout the meal was excellent; attentive and friendly without being overbearing, and Vicki is always a gracious host & happy to hear feedback. For the first time since going we took drinks & coffee in the lounge, which is a lovely touch to the restaurant & very cosy. As always, we left feeling satisfied, but not stuffed, and that we'd had huge value for money. Not surprisingly, we're really looking forward to going back. Thanks to the whole team for another really lovely evening :-)

Came in a few weeks ago with my husband and was absolutely amazing!! The staff were all so polite, especially the waitress who served us although sadly cannot remember her name!! She was so kind and helpful and the food was incredible. Will definitely be going back and wish we lived closer!!!

We came for a post valentine dinner, all i can say is that from the beginning to the end, the service, food and atmosphere was great, this restaurant is a little gem, i would highly recommend here for a special treat, the staff are really attentive with great knowledge of the dishes being served and the wine list, we will be back.

This is a lovely restaurant run by a small friendly team. There is a small menu with excellent three course choices. The food is so well presented and very tasty. Would certainly recommend and will definitely return. Good cocktails too.
