Doorsteps of Handbridge in Cheshire West and Chester

I was looking for something to eat on a long train journey and was recommended Doorsteps of Handbridge. It was just over the bridge from central Chester but well worth the detour. It had an astounding range of sandwiches and baguettes on different types of bread. Everything was very fresh and I thoroughly enjoyed my Cajun chicken filling. My only quibble is that I felt the homemade cakes were not up to the high standards of the sandwich.

Amazing for sandwiches and breaks. I often go here. Have a wide variety of choices on the menu and it is very well priced. Staff are always so lovely! Definitely recommend

I’ve nipped in only a couple of times in the morning, the gentleman who owns the store is very lovely and already remembers my usual order. I love the baps and will be a long time customer ☺️

Popped in for a couple of sandwiches this morning to take to Chester zoo and they're absolutely lovely - fresh and tasty. Highly recommend and about half the price of zoo fare.

Lovely little sandwich shop. Hot & cold baguettes and sandwiches, salads, some mini quiches and sausage rolls, good selection of desert items, cakes brownies etc. Friendly people running it. Accepts card, takeout only.

First time visiting today very welcoming and friendly staff great menu and very good value. Cakes look amazing i will certainly be returning can i please make a suggestion that you provide oat milk thankyou

Brilliant don't want to share really as so fab. However, that would not be fair on the staff or the business. Visit you will not be disappointed.

We needed a platter of sandwiches for lunch. It was for 6 people and we had a selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls, pork pie and pasty. We ordered around 11.30 for collection around 1.30. Everything on our platter was perfect. Fabulous tasty sandwiches, lovely sausage tolls and pies. Brilliant service. Thank you so much. Highly recommend using you.

Best place for takeaway breakfast or lunch, delicious homemade baps and sandwiches and amazing homemade cakes. Run by really nice people.

I can't say enough for this place the owners are absolutely lovely people. The food is high end, I'm struggling to describe. But please pop in grab a sandwich as you enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Handbrige and take a walk towards the river beautiful isn't the word.

Fabulous food here! Well worth the walk over the bridge if you're visiting Chester. And there's a nice green round the corner to sit out in the sun by the river.

Fantastic array of sandwich fillings on offer with a choice of batch, bin lid, bread or french stick; you are spoilt for choice. I've never been disappointed. We took four of their afternoon teas to the RHS Tatton Park flower show. We were stuffed. The staff are lovely as well. I thoroughly recommend them.

Wish I’d been here before, we used ‘A Catered Affair’ for our Golden Wedding on Saturday, everything we ate all weekend has been excellent (I decided I was going to have the weekend off!). Couldn’t fault anything and the portion sizes were good, I still have some left to eat tomorrow, so two days food have lasted almost four and we didn’t hold back. Not only has the food been great, but the kindness was too. To top off the quality etc. the cost was very fair and less chance of catching COVID as they delivered straight to our dining room, so no stress possibly mixing with unvaccinated and untested people!! Thrilled, well worth being married 50 years for!!!

We love doorsteps, the salads, sandwiches and cakes are excellent. We often pop down for a treat in the week, especially good since WFH. They always have something extra for our little dog which is so lovely. Can’t recommend them enough, great food and people.

Discovered this little gem owing to a traffic diversion and wasn’t disappointed! Friendliest service, freshest delicious sandwiches and the best brownies in town!

Had the hot drink and bacon bap for £4,absolute bargain, lovely people who own the place and a good choice of food n drink, not far from the Old Dee bridge, no seating but a big park opposite with benches and seating by the river too.

This place is brilliant, always a huge selection of sandwiches, salads and cakes etc. Staff are so lovely, I lost my dad and had tears when I went in one day and from then on they always checked on me when I visited. Called in to Doorsteps for the first time today, certainly won’t be the last. Firstly met with super friendly staff, then served a super tasty roast pork baguette, followed by a cherry bake well blondie that was to die for!

Frequently visit here because the food is delicious and the staff are incredibly friendly. Excellent menu choices as well

Great butty shop. Very friendly service. Small family run Business sandwiches are spot on. Highly recommend we always go when we walk are dog around there. And sumtimes are dog gets a free sausage. I went with my friends on our college break and thought we would try something new. There was a long queue outside so we assumed it would be good. I had a cheese baguette and honestly I was so disappointed the bread was more like a bread roll with no shape and the cheese was cheap and greasy layered with margarine. It’s such a shame because the people are lovely.

Polite lovely people, serving fresh full flavoured food. Will definitely be going there again. They also do a variety of pipers crisps the jalapeno and dill ones are delish! 😉

We order from Doorsteps as our monthly treat and we are never disappointed, everything is tasty & lots of filling too. If you dont want any bread then the Salad boxes are excellent just pick your sandwich filling then they add that to the salad...

Had a walk round to Doorsteps on a lovely sunny lunchtime and got myself a hot roast beef baguette. The young lady serving was just lovely and even though there was a pretty big queue she remained calm and friendly throughout. the baguette was DELICIOUS...

Great local sandwich shop. Only about 50ft from the river. I'm a regular. Very extensive menu of hot and cold and breakfast. Very friendly staff . Highly recommend grabbing a sandwich and a coffee and sitting by the river. Situated just past the river facing the Ship pub on the shops .

I bought 2 iced donuts here and hands down the best donuts I have ever eaten, they spring back when you bite into them and they are all sweet and lovley. Amazing Plus all of their food is amazing
