In the past I’ve thought this cafe was overpriced with less than great service. It’s been a long time since my last visit so thought I would give it a try. We sat outside at a table that had recently been vacated, assuming it would be cleared soon however there didn’t seem to be any staff clearing tables. When I was given menus I asked what the tart of the day was to be told they weren’t doing it. I then selected the mozzarella and tomato salad only to be told when ordering that they didn’t have that either. Surely I should have been told what items weren’t available when I was given menus? The outside seating isn’t particularly comfortable and the atmosphere is lacking. At the prices being charged I would expect more. Due to my choices not being available we decided not to eat and went to bath mill retreat down the road. Much more reasonable, comfortable furniture and in a beautiful setting. On leaving newton st loe cafe we walked through to the shop to have a browse. There was a very unpleasant smell which made me glad we decided not to stay to eat.

We live in Bath and have eaten here frequently as we love the walks nearby … but increasingly leave feeling disappointed and ripped off. We had a pulled pork burger and chips -£20!!! Same price as The Ivy!! But there you get seated, your order taken, served and checked if everything’s ok, attentive waiters there should you need anything and the food is always great. Newton is a beautiful setting but you are charging gastro prices for poor quality ingredients that are not prepared or stored well and there’s a sense that a competent passionate chef is not heading up the kitchen The chips are soggy & cold - for £4.95 you want a triple cooked chip surely??? No foodie chef would allow chips like that to leave their kitchen. Ploughman’s - I swapped white bread for sour dough and it arrived stale … rock hard?? I waited for a waitress to pass by but none came so after 10 mins I went inside and a lovely waitress agreed it was very stale and offered to swap it for fresh sour dough or granary. 10 mins later toasted sour dough arrived … the waitress realised as she got to the table and said shall I get you bread as you probably don’t want toast with your ploughman’s… she kindly offered me bread and I said I will just have this as my husband had nearly finished his and we had plans so didn’t want to wait. She kindly brought bread anyway, The portions for ploughman’s were big … the chef clearly listened to earlier reviews… but to say that your ploughman’s have good reviews is no longer true … However the quality of ingredients is poor. Cheap cheddar, very old not fresh Stilton on the outer rims of the crust which is a shame. A liquid substance with huge lumps which I presume is chutney - again what chef would allow this to pass in his kitchen?? I had jalapeño on my ploughman’s - why?? … no apple slices and leaves that were undressed and so wilted they had the soggy black leaves in there. Finally the dried up shredded unseasoned cabbage with the odd carrot shred … I think it was advertised as coleslaw. Again how can this leave the kitchen like me this? Where is the care guys? Where is the foodie passion? The pulled pork was ‘fine’ for £16 it needed to be memorable… what do you want your customers to feel when they’ve eaten your food chef?? The crackling cold and overcooked - the bun delicious … the best bit … Hobhouse? You guys charge a fortune and can afford to serve food akin to passionate street food carts we see in Borough Market and the likes. But you’re not … and you havnt for a very long time!! Years ago your triple cooked chunky chips were the first of their kind in Bath… your quiches were thick cheesy snd indulgent and huge doorstep egg sandwiches so fresh and delicious … you used to really care about the food you served … We love your setting, you’ve got lovely staff, truly lovely but you need to either free your chef to do their job passionately and give them the budget and time to execute it well … or find an experienced chef who is a foodie and would only serve what they would eat. Or price your food at the level it is …, and it certainly isn’t £20 for burger & soggy cold chips

Service was incredibly slow, poached eggs were cold and massively overcooked and no one was available to complain too Tables were not being cleared and visitors had to go to the counter to order as no one was interested… Sadly service staff were standing around talking not working..only one blonde haired guy was really trying hard to help everyone Sad but needs to be told

Really disappointed here today. Been here plenty times but today was not good. The service was very slow and staff were not tending to customers. Tables were taking a long time to be cleared and had to go and look for someone to order more drinks. That is not the norm as on previous occasions I haven’t had to physically look for a member of staff.

The pork belly flatbread was lovely The chips were chunky and crispy but overpriced The cheddar rarebit was awful. Soggy bread and soggy cheese. Looks and tastes like it had been microwaved. Made an Easyjet toasty look like a Michelin star meal. Definitely won’t be having that again as only one piece (thank god because it was awful) for £10.95 But I would come back as the rest of the experience was good.

Wow! Stunning roast dinner! Been here a few times and your roasts do not disappoint! Melt in your mouth Newton Farm reared pork belly and beef, beautifully cooked vegetables and Yorkshire Pud to accompany. Cauliflower cheese (extra cost) was gorgeous, the cheese used in it is very tasty. Friendly staff serving. Best roast dinner in the local area in my opinion!

My friend and I ordered a pulled pork roll, which was very salty. The waitress never asked how our meal was and for a small roll at nearly £10 with a small bit of garnish on the side, very overpriced. Complain to the management. Who just took our drinks off the bill. I will not be eating here again., as the food was tasteless , except for eating just salt and very expensive for what you get, Definitely need to train staff in better customer service . I would not recommend this cafe to anyone.

Myself and my two sisters meet here for lunch today , Our recent experience was not good. we ordered the soup , potato and leek, green in colour , completely tasteless, no leek or potato. we asked the waitress if this was the soup of the day as it did not taste of any leek or potato , we also said it had no taste at all apart from salt . she said she will go and check , she never came back to us ! we did pay our bill of £7.95 each for a bowl green spew ! A tip for the manager , get decent mature staff , and a decent chef as a tin of Heinz would of been better then what we had . Will not be returning .

We have been here before for a lovely Sunday roast. We made the mistake of turning up with our dog. No dogs allowed indoors. So we sat outside. But then found that no roasts are served outside. So that was it we headed home for a cheese sandwich instead. Pity, I’ve recommended this place to others before too. Don’t think i will from now on.

Very disappointing expensive lunch!! Surly waitress who did not engage at all, everything seemed an effort! Lentil and veg stew was disgusting and luke warm, asked for it to be reheated, soup was luke warm and was not the best tasting, chunky chips were mix of hard and soft, bread was flashed at the grill arrived anaemic with a crust! Would I come to this over priced farmshop again, very much doubt it, too expensive for the quality of food provided!!

Very disapointed, came for afternoon tea for my birthday, my daughter paid £90.00 for 4 people. We were showed to our table and then had to wait half an hour, by then had to ask a member of staff if we could have our food and drinks. The sandwiches were very salty ( I love salt, but was too much for me). They told my daughter the menu and a couple of things were missing. Had to keep trying to get a member of staffs attention for more tea. Overall very upset and overpriced for what you get. Will be recommending to people not to waste their money going here.

I am very intolerant to garlic. Only two items on the menu were garlic free - both flatbreads. So I had smoked salmon on flatbread and chunky chips. I had wanted pulled pork but that had garlic in. Sadly I think something still had garlic in as I was violently ill immediately which is how I react to garlic. I had to stop on my 30 minute journey home. I rang but the phone was not answered. I left a message but have had no response. Lovely ambience and friendly staff but I feel this preponderance of garlic is a big problem.

We turned up 'on spec' for a lunch and joined a queue before the staff member organising everyone told us the place was full but we could try one of the outside huts. Unfortunately someone beat us to the hut, so I popped back in to say we would go elsewhere. Just then a couple left from inside, so we were kindly allocated their table. Thereafter the service was brilliant: quick and friendly. Our pie meals were delicious, there was no pressure on us to vacate the table and we had an excellent experience. Congratulations all round.

Had been recommended by a friend so decided to try the Sunday lunch. Went for rare roast beef from the local farm, came with roast pots, parsnip/swede crush, Yorkshire pudding, braised pickled red cabbage, leeks and broccoli. My friend had carrots on their plate but sadly I missed out on those. Ordered a side of delicious pigs’n’blankets. Gravy came on the side which I like, allowed me to douse the areas I wanted. Beef was sublime, can easily recommend. Pots were ever so slightly underdone but tasty, everything else perfect and very very filling. Other people’s desserts looked large, couldn’t manage anything else other than coffee to complete meal. It’s not cheap but quality never is. Will revisit.

Very disappointed that we drove up here. The farm shop had a small butchery but everything else being sold was ultra processed, from limp supermarket style sandwiches to scotch eggs filled with additives like soy protein. I asked the shop assistant about this as I was so confused to see such a long list of UPF additives in a farm shop, and they said five chefs had quit in the last few weeks so now they were just buying in cheap processed food and repackaging it as farm shop food (with a farm shop price). So cynical.

We visited with my grandmother a couple of weeks ago for a Sunday lunch. We booked the table for 2pm, the roast was delicious and one of the best we’ve all ever had! Once we had finished our food but it seemed like most of the staff had gone. Our plates didn’t get collected and the same for the other 4 tables around us all seemed to be looking around. My partner got up, found a young waiter and asked if we could have coffee. Assuming it was the manager over heard and came out with ‘only if it’s quick’ which came across quite rude considering we are paying customers and we had been waiting a good 20 minutes once finishing our meal. I hope none of the other tables wanted desert or coffee. But the food was delicious, roast beef was cooked to perfection!

I'm sorry to say that the cafe food we had was not of the quality or quantity that we have previously experienced. In fact, over several years of meeting there, I would say tthat the quality has deteriorated in relation to the growth of the business. My meal this week just didn't have that cooked-from-scratch freshness and the portion was, quite frankly, measly. I never mind paying for good quality, locally grown and/or sourced food but unfortunately received a highly priced, mostly unenjoyable meal and was again, disappointed. Have previously given the 'benefit of the doubt' but time to try somewhere else I feel.

We really do like this Farm Shop Café, so much so that we suggested that this would be a venue for a meet-up with some friends. It is also conveniently located about halfway between our two homes. Little did we know that our friends had previously visited. I had made a table reservation for 12:30, because it is a very popular place to dine at lunchtimes. We made the decision to have a substantial lunch as our main meal of the day, leaving us free in the evening to sit-out in our garden without having to cook anything elaborate. Drinks were ordered, two ‘Sparkling Elderflower’ cordial, a ‘Passionate Ginger Beer’ and a large Americano coffee. I had the passionfruit Ginger Beer which was not very good, there was a large amount of sludge in the bottle and it got into my glass, rendering the second half of my drink less-than-pleasant. I will not order this drink again. Food orders placed: King Prawn Flatbread: Chilli, garlic, coriander and lime king prawns, with smoked salmon mousse (for our friend’s wife). This drew good comments and it did look good; my Partner noted this, and will probably order this plate in the future. Summer Salad: Seasonal veg, crushed new potatoes, leaf salad, smoked garlic hummus, and pesto (for my Partner). An excellent and much enjoyed plate, the hummus had a great taste. Newton Farm Burger: Handmade beef patty, with blue cheese mayo, smoked BBQ and red onion relish, and chunky chips (for our friend’s husband). Again much enjoyed and all eaten apart from the chips; there was nothing wrong with them, it just a bit of watching the carb count. Newton Farm 8oz Rump Steak, with Bearnaise sauce, new potato rosti, and green salad (for myself). The rosti had a superb texture and the green salad (although a bit small) had a good dressing. The steak had a great taste and the meat was very lean and perfectly cooked for “medium rare” as requested, but the meat was quite tough. The Bearnaise sauce was excellent. We were seated in the main indoor dining area and although windows were open it was stiflingly hot. Agreed it was a very warm day and we all just needed to get out into the fresh air, to cool off. We called for the bill and this was promptly presented (all waiting staff service had been equally efficient).

I used to come here a lot before they expanded and it was wonderful. The last time I came it wasn’t great but thought I’d try again. Sadly it wasn’t great again, I should have complained there and then but I wanted to enjoy my morning with my mum. I think I poached egg is a basic skill for a chef. Both my poached eggs were hard boiled and one of my mums was hard boiled!! What frustrates me the most is everything costs so much these days, I hate paying good money for poor food, really disappointing and for me that’s the last visit now. It’s great to expand but not at the detriment to your standards and that’s what has happened. Service is always lovely, although my mum was served with a teapot and no cup 🤪

We have regularly visited for breakfast and unfortunately the standard is falling. Visited today and the hash browns provided were so overcooked they were solid and inedible. I wish the same could be said for the bacon, which was insipid and looked barely cooked so had to be left. The sausages also lacked a lot of colour. The black pudding was dried out and solid with cold beans. When everything is cooked properly it is a great breakfast with fantastic ingredients, but unfortunately its becoming very inconsistent and you may end up with an underwhelming breakfast. The service however is always very prompt, friendly and polite.

This is a great cafe / small restaurant to visit outside the city centre. Serves fresh and locally sourced produce from the on-site farm, would highly recommend. Staff were really friendly too!

Awful. Long wait for dry over cooked food. Maybe good quality meat from a farm shop but cooked to oblivion. 7 of us eating and not one fish was presentable. 😩
