Newmarket Ale House in Camden

There was nothing to like about this place. Me and my friend were shocked. Dirty floors, dirty walls, dust, and dirt everywhere. We didn't feel safe and secure in the building. It looked like an abandoned house. There was a 10 cm gap between our rooms door and the floor, the floor was uneven and the carpet wasn't hovered. The heating was not working. The shower didn't work, olny cold water. Due to our late arrival to the city, and because we had the parking booked close to this horror house... also, because the venue was really close,we couldn't book another room somewhere else.. We left the room as soon as we arrived there and went for a walk in the city. After the venue, we slept in our clothes in the bed.. for a couple of hours. Couldn't leave straight after, because I was driving to London for 5 hours, tha way back home took the same time. I needed to rest a bit... It was cold, dirty, and disgusting. Me and my friend we both think that this was the worst accommodation we have ever seen. I honestly think it is dangerous and should not function as accommodation. It is impossible that it corresponds to fire, health or other regulations an accommodation should have as a minimum request. Do not trust the pictures on their website or on bookking.com it is scarry, terrible.

Cette chambre fut un véritable enfer. A peine entrée, l’odeur est nauséabonde, mais bienveillantes que nous sommes, nous nous sommes aventurées tout de même, à la recherche de points positifs… pas de bol y’en a pas ! La salle de bain est immonde, la douche était sale, la chasse d’eau n’avait pas été tirée… la personne d’avant nous, nous pouvons vous l’affirmer, n’est pas constipée ! Le lit…avait la chance de disposer d’une couverture de poils ? Cheveux ? Ou autre… nous ignorons ! Un petit frigo est à disposition dans la chambre, si vous souhaitez attraper la mort, n’hésitez pas à vous en servir ! Nous avons donc décidé de quitter ce lieu immonde, mais n’ayant aucune personne dans l’hôtel (oui car ils communiquent seulement par message), nous avons donc écrit au patron que nous quittions les lieux pour toutes les raisons précédentes ! Ce à quoi il a osé nous répondre en voyant les preuves par photos « je m’attendais à pire »…. Voilà ! Bref, pourquoi cet endroit est il encore ouvert ? Vous avez 3h…

Did not stay disgusting. Arrived to find it locked with a phone number on door. Eventually got hold of someone who gave us a number to a lock box. The room was disgusting what looked like bodily fluids down wall. Smoke alarm had been disabled with a bog, couldn't remove this as the ceiling was very high. TV didn't work and batteries had been removed from remote. Room also smelt like someone had been smoking in there. Walked straight out and booked into another hotel.

Absolutely minging, dirty, dusty, barflies, popcorn machine looks like it hasn’t been emptied in years and it’s out of order and is a health and safety liability. Service absolutely terrible, when I pointed out how many barflies there were in the pub I was told “it was normal”, as anyone reading this review would know more flies mean an area is not clean including the pipes, the drip trays, and the counter was sticky enough to stick a stamp. I would strongly recommend you never visit this pub, which explains why I’ve never seen anyone in it. You have been warned!!!!!!

I ordered 2 pizzas online via Just Eat. The pizzas arrived ruined, because the delivery driver had put them in his back pack upside down, They were mangled, and stuck to the box. The cheese was even coming out of the box, and got stuck all over my door mat when the delivery boy dumped them there. I rang the restaurant to alert them as to what had happened. The manager was so apologetic and to my surprise he DROVE 2 NEW PIZZAS TO MY HOUSE IN HIS OWN CAR AND HAND-DELIVERED THEM (and i live a good 40 minutes drive away in a car). I cannot believe how kind this was of him, and i will be forever grateful. Oh and just to add, the pizzas tasted DELICIOUS! I would highly recommend the food here and the customer service I received is just beyond incredible. Thank you SO SO SO much!

First time visiting tonight and we were delighted with our choice! Lovely interior, friendly staff, and delicious food! The freshest pizza dough ever! They were offering the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, allowed our small dog and were happy to adjust the pizza for my vegan ways ;0). 10/10 excellent! We will defiantly be back, thank you

We were staying st the Newmarket ale house hotel (not a good experience) but ate st the adjoining pub (different owners). Wow. Great food. The fish and chips were cooled to perfection. Large serving. The chips had the best seasoning!! Loved it.

Stayed here over the weekend for a surprise for my partners birthday had requested early check in as we had other surprise lined up for the day to then wait 30 mins for room to be cleaned. Tried to have a shower in the morning no hot water finally came though hot after leaving it on for over 20 mins damp on ceiling and black marks all in shower floor tv not working the list goes on. To then go down to complain about it being told I should of checked the shower and tv before I went out yesterday and that there is nothing wrong with the ceiling or floor. I asked for my money back not all but at least half as it was over £100 for one night to be told I can have £15 back. The gentleman that was serving us was being rude when talking to me about my complaints. I would never go back here again completely spoilt are weekend away. AVOID AVOID AVOID

We love the Newmarket, it is one of our favourite pubs in London. The food is always great (chicken burger is a favourite) and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Live sport is on if you want it and the free popcorn from the machine is the perfect bar snack. There’s also delicious home-made treats like baklava to enjoy. We would highly recommend this pub to anyone, we can’t wait to go back. Xx

We returned here for lunch with my husband and children. The food was again very good, though the menu hasn't expanded much since last time. We had lasagne, pizzas and lamb chops for our mains and a starter of pitta, hummus and olives to share. I also tried a cocktail this time around, which was quite delicious! Tasty, fresh and good value and the pub is so light and bright that it's really a very nice place to sit and watch the world go by.

I have just returned from a night in London staying at the Newmarket Hotel I use the term hotel lightly , I am not one to complain usually but I feel that others must be warned about this hell hole . It is without doubt the worst place I have ever had the misfortune to stay I totally understand you get what you pay for and if you want 5star stay at the Savoy but unfortunately this place isn’t even cheap . From the moment we arrived we thought what have we done. Reception looked like it had been built by Bob the builder we where then taken out of the premises on to the street and shown to another door that looked like it had been fitted the year UVPC was invented then to a-room that can only be described as a squat but being in a hurry to get to a concert we where attending we just had to put up with it . We then returned after what was a lovely evening to Armageddon but tried to get some sleep my brother slept fully clothed with his shoes on refusing to even get in the bed but no this was not bad enough we where woken at 6 by building work going on beneath us, so we decided to go for breakfast at 7 not having Showered because this was also unfortunately disgusting to the point of better to wait till we are home. Now as I am sure you will have guest breakfast was just as disappointing as everything else so we decided to eat across the road even though breakfast at the Newmarket was free so please any one reading this take note it really is the worst so called Hotel I have ever visited I would not go back if they offered me a free room for life quite frankly the Pitts.

We booked through Living Social and got a 3 course dinning experience for two with a bottle of Bubbles. When we arrived we expected the meal to be just pub food, and were pleasantly surprised to find that it had a Mediterranean/Latin twist to the food. (Brazilian/Italian). The venue was split into two sections a bar/pub and then the restaurant dinning area (small and cosy) The staff were friendly, and the service was spot on. The waiter understood we were strapped for time as had to get to a show and so made sure our food wasn't delayed. Although we had a specials menu the selection was good, the food was perfect taste wise, heat and the portions were big not skimped on like on some deals.

Une catastrophe accueil déplorable chambre très sale l état de la Salle de bain une horreur. Des draps tachés et non changé bref je le dé conseil une honte de dire que c est un hôtel !!

Great service, wonderful food and a real family atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommended, for the whole family.

This place has had a huge turnaround and is really looking much better! It's had a sort of vintage make-over, including a deli counter for the lunchtime crowd looking for takeaway sandwiches, and the addition of a beautiful array of plants and shrubs, which really make it that little bit classier. All in all, it's had a facelift, and a good one, and that applies to the food too. It's a basic menu with pizzas, pastas, chicken & fish, but everything we ordered was tasty and seemed well prepared. Reasonably priced too. If you're looking for tasty and fresh in a relaxed, comfortable environment, then this isn't a bad place to start.

We celebrated my Mum's birthday here recently and were genuinely impressed by the recent transformation! The pub looks great, its lighter & brighter, the service was friendly, our children were made very welcome & the food itself was very good - simple, tasty & fresh - we had pastas, risottos & pizzas - all of which were delicious. We would definitely go back.

A 10mns à pied de la station Caledonian Road chambre correcte salle d'eau ultra minuscule mais je n'ai pas aimé pour une réservation de 4 nuits que les lits ne soient refaits qu'une seule fois et les serviettes 2 fois. Pour laisser les bagages à l'hôtel suivant la durée il faut payer !

En primer lugar, las habitaciones no están conectadas a la casa de cerveza en todo lo que son a través de una entrada separada a pocas puertas de distancia, pero la recepción está dentro del bar, así que está bien. El miembro del personal en el sitio no hablaba bien el inglés, me tomó 10 minutos explicar que mi inodoro no tenía papel higiénico. Imagínate.

Relación calidad-precio muy razonable. Ubicación relativamente buena y con buenas comunicaciones con los sitios turísicos. Un poco lejos del metro, pero hay un bus que lleva en 10 min a Camden. Habitación muy mona y luminosa, la única pega sería la falta de un minibar.

J'y est passé deux nuits pour visiter Londres. L'emplacement est vraiment top. A moins de 10 min. en bus de la gare St Pancras. Le prix est vraiment correct.

Una cosa curiosa con Este pub es, que se llaman a sí mismo una Ale House, pero no sirven cervezas.

Pareja y yo reservamos una noche aquí porque era razonable y que sólo queríamos un sitio para quedarse después de ver un concierto. Bastante fácil de encontrar pero al ver la recepción estaba preocupado. Era un extraño pequeño escritorio escondido en la parte trasera del pub. El pub en sí parecía tener una cosa chic, ahora cuenta no hay nada chic de este establecimiento. Pagamos a la hora en que me pareció extraño, pero una vez que vimos el estado de nuestra habitación es comprensible! Subimos los escalones raídas a una habitación. Cuando entramos, estaba helada y las alfombras estaban rasgadas en los escalones. La cama estaba bien pero chirriaba si tan movido y las almohadas eran duras como piedras. El baño era la peor parte. Me di cuenta de que no tenemos un bloque de jabón y preguntamos en recepción y nos dijeron que no suministro de jabón y me dijeron que el uso de la pequeña botella de gel que proporciona. No había alfombra de baño y la ducha puertas no me quedaría cerrado. Esta habitación empapado la y como solo tenía una toalla muy pequeño cada uno, no podíamos limpia el agua. La ducha estaba helada y no mantener la temperatura. La ducha tenía un cabezal de la ducha y un pequeño spray de manos, pero no pequeña. El lavabo era también demasiado pequeño para siquiera lavarse la cara sin empapar el suelo. Mi pareja regularmente las estancias en albergues y a él le dijo que era el peor lugar en el que se había alojado. La cama estaba limpia y estaba bien para una noche pero no podía pagar nosotros otra vez.

Yo estaba buscando una ubicación cerca de la estación de Kings Cross y este era un buen precio y tenía las instalaciones que necesitaba.

We stayed here for one night, because we needed to catch a ridiculously early train the next day! We were looking for somewhere cheap and relatively close to King's Cross, and at £120 for 4 people, this ticked the boxes.The rooms are very small, reached by steep, narrow stairs, and don't have much in the way of conveniences. That being said, my room was considerable bigger than the others, as was my bathroom, so this simply may all be a matter of luck. I have to say, it was scrupulously clean and the beds were comfy - excellent pillows! - and it was nice and warm. Service is non-existent; the bar staff have nothing to do with the hotel side really, and save for someone on the desk to check you in and out, there really isn't anyone around, so expect to carry your own bags etcFor the price we paid, it was exactly what I expected. We had to leave very early for the train, so didn't get to try the breakfast, but again it seems very reasonably priced to have breakfast thrown in.

Stayed at the Newmarket Ale house for one night only. On walking into the bar it looked lovely however had to wait 5 minutes to be acknowledged. Was shown to the front door of our accommodation which turned out to be the building next door, which was fine but appeared not to be a B&B but also people living there with shared kitchens/bathrooms which we walked past many of times whilst trying to find our room as was not shown, just pointed to the stairs. The initial decor could be improved. The room was small but big enough for short stay. Needs a freshen up and nothing like the photos show. No bin in room. Had no duvet cover, just a duvet and sheet over the top....dread to think how many bodies it's touched! Whole building very hot, uncomfortable to sleep in as no way of controlling it. On the whole was a good location, average breakfast but probably wouldn't stay again. Would expect better for price.

The Newmarket Ale House didn't look how it did in the pictures when I booked the room. When I got there there were no customers in the pub, and the bartender was just rude. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom and she said, "ok." and continued to facetime her friend behind the bar. The "hotel" desk is simply a desk bought from a furniture store, and wasn't very professional. When we were shown outside and into the hotel portion, the man said our room number and left. However, there are many staircases and it was hard to find. Everything around the Newmarket Ale House was boarded up. Not friendly or welcoming. I would not stay here again.

The staff are friendly, and there is a good selection of ales and lagers and the clientele are a mixed bag.

I really wanted to give this place a good review but I'd be lying if I said it was great because it's not! Firstly when we arrived we came in the bar entrance and spoke to the really uninterested unfriendly barmaid who just gestured round the corner to the check in desk. Not a good start! Once we'd checked in and paid we were directed to our room for 2 nights which was on the top floor. No help was offered with our bags. On entering the room we almost turned around and walked out again. It was the tiniest room we had ever seen. The en-suite was so cramped you literally had to have the door open when on the toilet or using the sink! The room was baking hot as the radiator was on full. Opened the window to get some air and it opened about 3 or 4 inches and then slid back down shut again. We used the 2 cups provided for tea and coffee to hold the window in place otherwise we would have baked. We had no choice but to stay and went down to the bar to get a drink. Uninterested unfriendly barmaid was there again. Asked if they had a wine list. She looked through me and said no. Did not offer to show or tell me what wines were available so I just thanked her and left to go and spend my money elsewhere. (Spent a lot of money over those 2 nights by the way)!We expected housekeeping to visit the next morning while we were out performing the usual toilet roll replacement and making up the bed etc. We didn't expect to be left with barely any toilet roll and some of our personal belongings to have been moved. I was and still am very annoyed abut this. The only thing good about this place was the breakfast. Every member of staff we came into contact with seemed miserable and disinterested and appeared to not want to be there. This is not the impression the website gives you. I would never book here again. The price was ridiculous for what we got. I have stayed in far better budget hotels for a lot less money. I expected a lot more and have been very disappointed. I would never recommend staying here to anyone.

Wenn man kein 5-Sterne-Hotel erwartet und das Guesthouse vorwiegend als das nutzt, was es eigentlich ist (ein Ort zum Schlafen nämlich), kommt man hier absolut auf seine Kosten! Die Lage, wenige Busminuten von Kings Cross entfernt, ist als Ausgangspunkt für die Erkundung von London ideal. Die Zimmer sind klein, aber modern und sauber eingerichtet. Wer gerne Bier trinkt und eine gute Bar zu schätzen weiß, wird sich hier gut aufgehoben fühlen (besonders empfehlenswert sind die French Fries!). Die Betreiber des Guesthouse sind rund um die Uhr vor Ort und sehr hilfsbereit. Definitiv empfehlenswert!

If you're on a budget, this is place to be. Cheaper than Travelodge, Premier Inn and the alike. Ultimately you get what you paid for, this is not negative reflection on here because all we wanted was a decent clean bed, which is exactly what we got.Look out for the 390 bus if you're heading central, bus stop is just outside.Average continental breakfast but at least you get fed :)

Went to the 1st night of Jeff the Chefs takeover of this kitchen We had Brazilian food as it was the theme of the eveningThey also do the regular pub grub so plenty of choice My boys are cheese bead (pao queso), cochinas & manjoca fries They were delicious Also tried chicken burgers & beef burgers later The veggie main was tasty too, Aubergine & chared bread I'd have it again. Try the appetisers for a wide variety of different Brazilian foods They do a large plate of different ones great to share We Will be back Very Child friendly tooLovely cocktails very well made from the barWe will be back Jeff the chef came out to!

O Hotel tem um pub na parte inferior , com mesas de madeira rústica onde servem o café da manhã qdo o pub esta fechado .O café é excelente com variedade de frutas, pães , sucos e iogurtes.Servem refeições , lanches caipirinhas , tudo muito gostoso .Infelizmente os quartos ficam no andar de cima e não tem elevador o que dificultaria levar as malas , mas um dos funcionários levou para nós. Dividi o quarto com duas amigas , tinha leite , café e chá em saches disponíveis e uma garrafa elétrica para ferver água .O banheiro do quarto é bem pequeno

We stayed here last October looking for an affordable stay.Going on a city trip the only thing I care about is having a clean place.I've never been to a hotel before where I didn't want to touch the floor with my bare feet. I was so glad I brought flipflops. They never vacuumed, there were strange spots on the bedding... The walls were so thin, the first night we woke up in the middle of the night as the couple next to us was fighting, the next night they started making up.I read the mixed reviews and thought I'm not picky, I'm not looking for something exquisite - but please!!! Clean rooms should really be a standard!!!

Popped in on way home for early lunch. The welcome was friendly, and they recommended a good deal for lunch. There was a good selection of beers/ales and a nice cider.The menu is good, basic pub lunches with a twist. I had the burger and beer deal. The burger was well cooked, freshly made and with nice side salad/fries.The setting is urban rustic, nicely decorated and I would certainly return for lunch and a night out. Feels like a place with a nice atmosphere.

Rooms were clean and tidy. Food and cocktails were good. Room at front of property was noisy but room to back nice and quiet. Towels and tea/coffee facilities in rooms. £10 cab fare or 20 min walk to Camden market. 20 min walk to tube station.

I read some very positive and some very negative reviews on this place. I'm firmly with the former. It is clean and with very friendly staff, all only a 15 minute or so from King's Cross station. For £34 a night you couldn't ask for more. There was a light bulb out on the main triple light..so what? The TV channels were all muddled up..big deal! Really, if you need a comfortable night in London I recommend this place.

We had a last minute trip to plan and wanted to be close to Kings Cross but not pay an extortionate amount for a triple room. Newmarket Ale House delivered, at £115 for two nights, including breakfast (continental). Yes, it could probably do with a refresh and our room was very small but for three people for two nights, we really couldn't complain. The staff are friendly and it's in a great location to get around. We had family visiting and they came for lunch on Sunday afternoon, two very happy Americans had very good fish and chips! Definitely will stay here again. Cheap and cheerful for London!

I felt very well looked after by the staff in the hotel. The rooms are small but very reasonably priced.

I booked a room in the hotel for one night, and liked it so much that I stayed for two more. The rooms were small, but very clean, comfortable, and well-stocked, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. And the meal I had in the pub was absolutely the best of my entire 10 days in London! I recommend it highly.

Myself and friend were verbally and physically threatened by a "local" in this pub this evening. I would advise anyone not to visit this pub as the manager new the individual and seemed to think this was acceptable! Safety of customers not a high concern clearly.

We both had vegetarian lasagne and enjoyed our meals. Camden Town and market is in walking distance from here.

Stayed here for 3 nights and was very pleased. The room, although small was clean and fully equipped with en-suite bathroom and tv, plus tea and coffee making facilities and a working fridge The staff were helpful and courteous and couldn't do enough for you, the complimentary breakfast was delicious and the evening meals and selection of beers in the pub itself were a delight. Would stay here again in a heartbeat, although due to it's location it can get a little noisy at night!

Beer was good but London prices (as it was London). Food was OK. The staff were friendly and I guess its a work in progress.

Dirty noisey and would never recomend this place youd be better of getting a room at the nearby pentonvile prison

Cheguei no hotel no início da noite e saí após o café da manhã. A primeira impressão não foi boa, o lugar tem uma aparência velha, embora seja bem cuidado. O quarto era pequeno, o colchão era mole demais e o banheiro era compartilhado.No térreo tem um pub, mas a cozinha já havia fechado às 21:00, então não consegui comer nada no local, comi nos arredores.Por outro lado, o café da manhã foi bom e os funcionários foram simpáticos e prestativos.Fica a 15min de caminhada da estação de Kings Crossing.

Price is very reasonable and early check in is a bonus . Friendly staff and clean good sized room with good sized shower room . Drinks a little expensive but to be expected in London . Good location too, 10 min walk to tube station . Conscience stores next door and great take away next door too . Will def book to go here again . Breakfast included in price which is always a bonus .

My lunch hour is 12:30~1:30pm Monday ~ Friday and I am a veggie. Today I went in and there were no menus or cutlery on the tables so I asked "was the kitchen open". No one seemed to know until the Chief said yes and he was doing the menus now. At 1:50 he popped the menus on the boards so I toddled up to the bar to find out what was available. The choice was incredibly limited- I had 1 choice- the same choice that was on the menu last week which made me feel quite ill so as you can imagine I didn't want it again. I told the chief I felt ill last week with the same dish and was there anything else- the answer was a point blank no. I won't be going in there again. He wasn't interested, he wanders around on his mobile doing nothing at all, just didn't care.The kitchen opens late, its over priced and the menu is very limited.My friend had the fish and chips and the batter was under-cooked too.I have gone in this pub every lunch time and put up with the kitchen closed/ no choice/ cold eggs etc but today was the last straw- don't waste your money- go somewhere else.The bar staff are wonderful as are most of the kitchen staff but this "chief" and I use that in the loosest term doesn't want to do anything at all- Not even sausage and chips!!

Very basic shared bathroom but what do you expect for the price. Location is fairly good short walk to major stations. Staff were all plesant

We had the best steak in 3 weeks here - cooked brazilian style. It mad us aussies very happy! Happy friendly staff - what a find

Francesco is fantastic. He knows what he's doing behind a bar. He's also extremely personable. The food is consistently good especially their fish and chips and burgers.

Great gastropub that serves a superb selection of real ales; the food was high quality and well presented. highly recommended!
