Great little picturehouse, showing a range of movies -we opted for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Seats were comfy and there is also a bar/restaurant attached which provides for a nice change from the larger chains.

A delicious meal cooked fresh to our requirements, served by friendly and efficient staff. Two of wanted the pasta, but neither of us likes parmesan, and one does not eat garlic. So the chef cooked two separate pastas, and they were delicious.

This is a fabulous find in the heart of Cornwall at the Fishing Port of Newlyn by the Coombe, which is a quaint tree-lined steamlet by a Church. The first impression you get is that it is both advertised as a Filmhouse AND a Cinema...then, upon entering, there are some days you are greeted by very friendly and helpful staff, and other times by very unfriendly and unhelpful staff...it's a Russian Roulette! The tickets are overpriced, and if you are a member, you only get £1 off each cinema ticket, which is a negligible amount. The bar/ restaurant area is quite spacious and aesthetically pleasing; the drinks on offer are jolly good. Food-wise, you get some interesting items which are well-presented but under-portioned. And another caveat: no food in the screens, and they have no popcorn either. So even though it's a cinema, where you typically go to watch movies and eat popcorn, you can't bring anything into the screens except glasses full of wine, which, of course, pose zero risk of breakage! The screens themselves are very comfortable and satisfying for the most part. So, all told, the venue hosts huge promise, but the result is a sometimes soulless atmosphere and illogical and counter-intuitive management. What I'd recommend is to bring yourself and your friends and liven the place up with your own spark!

We noticed the One Love - Bob Marley film was showing here on 14th Feb, so two tickets were booked as was a dinner reservation. From the moment we walked in, a great greeting at the front desk, a warm reception at the first floor restaurant, Magda our waitress was friendly and amusing. Our unexpected St. Valentines meal came with couples quiz🥰 and the food was excellent, monkfish, duck, steak and sole were all tiptop! The film was pretty good too!

Fantastic cinema experience from start to finish. So easy to book tickets online and a table for dinner afterwards. The cinema itself is really lovely, with great picture and sound quality and thoroughly comfortable seats for our 2 hour film. So much space that we could get to our seats without the others in the row having to stand up to let us through! You can take your drinks from the bar through too which is a nice touch. The restaurant afterwards was perfect too. Brilliant food - best whitebait I’ve had in ages - and 3 steaks from local butchers, perfectly cooked medium-rare. Chef and waiting staff were really friendly and accommodating as I had to have one really plain steak/dish due to dietary limitations. So grateful for this sensitive handling as eating out can be hard right now for me. Thank you to our lovely waiter for arranging this. Would highly recommend to anyone - couples, families or even on your own.

Great idea, awful reality. We came a couple of weeks ago to see a film and have dinner, film was fine, apart from the only food available to take into showing was a tiny £3 ice cream!! The restaurant was a mess, small young blonde woman who we assumed was the manager due to her bossing around the clearly unhappy staff, was passive aggressive and her unnecessarily stressed nature (the restaurant was dead) brought about an uncomfortable atmosphere in the whole restaurant. The waitress that served us was very friendly, the food was fine but over priced for what it was. It’s a shame but I would only recommend if you want to see a film.

Beautiful cinema showing a great selection of films and serving good food in a stunning location. Unfortunately our experience was marred by an exceptionally rude, unfriendly and unhelpful man front of house. We asked for information regarding London screenings of an independent film “The Spirit of Zennor” as it was sold out and were met with a very hostile and patronising response which was totally uncalled for. This wonderful little cinema won’t last long unfortunately if customers continue to be treated in this way!! The film is showing at Portobello Film Festival if you’re interested!!

So disappointed. Looking forward to a lovely evening but the meal before the film was not good. My lamb kofta came out as chicken! Lady on next table said she'd heard me order lamb! I accepted the chicken as was told lamb would be a wait and husband's meal was already on the table. Chicken was chargrilled and barely warm, on a bed of Greek salad, swimming in acidic oil and lathered in yogurt. Why not serve dressings separately? Husband's steak ok but not great and he wasn't asked how he likes it cooked, but they did ask the man on next table! Lovely staff, very apologetic, but food was dreadful. Limited menu, probably due to cook's capabilities. Whitebait? Chickpea curry? Lots of bread with choices. Expensive for the quality. Shame. We've enjoyed meals previously and were so looking forward to a repeat. Never again.

This is a beautiful place. I was lucky to be seated in the small Japanese room with fairy lights. Service is excellent! The waiters were super friendly, recommended a superb Sauvignon Blank. The food, and this is constructive criticism, does not match the beautiful restaurant and in fact I m a little surprised to see a comment comparing the food to the next door fish cafe that is in did excellent. I ordered a cold meat mezze and I m afraid 2 slices of salami, 4 olives, couple of slices of prosciutto all out of a pack do not constitute for a small plate. Is not the advertised local produce. The sourdough bread was amazing though. I had the crab linguine and that was tasty and fresh, although not spicy enough and the sauce was very sweet, lacking seasoning. The crab was Newlyn crab and plentiful! I comment because I do feel this place was much better before the pandemic and I d love to return. I dont mind paying the top price for top food, generous sized and local! The cinema, screen 1, is superb! Cosy, fantastic chairs and a perfect match for the premier of Downton Abbey! I will 100% return to both cafe and cinema!

My friend and I went to see a film on Wednesday evening followed by a meal in the restaurant - I chose the goats cheese and falafel burger which was extremely tasty and my friend had the chowder - again a good choice. Followed by delicious puddings - Elton Mess and Sticky Toffee pudding - one of the nicest I have had .. I also chose a P AND T - which is white port and tonic - a new drink for me. So overall a very pleasant evening. Have been here several times and have always enjoyed. Also appreciate the NO RUSTLE rule in the screens.

Please do not visit this place! First of all, me and my friends had a terrible experience with customer service. I asked the person on the phone if there was space available to eat and I was left on hold and completely forgotten about. I had to say ‘hello, hello’ down the phone until somebody else picked up and said ‘Who are you? I don’t know what’s going on’. Even so we apprehensively decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt and go for dinner. The starters were ok. But the mains were disgusting. My friends had bland, tasteless ‘curry’. My other friend had a chowder which tasted like something from a microwave ready meal. I had a falafel burger which tasted crunchy, old and like it had been taken out of the bin. We made a complaint and asked for a discount and the staff were reluctant as they said we’d eaten the food ( even though A) the staff didn’t check on us once and B) the food was eaten as we were showing each other had bad the others tasted. The staff then took the price of our drinks away from the bill which quite frankly was not good enough. Plus we could hear the kitchen staff moaning about our complaints. The waiters were quite friendly and it wasn’t their fault but the whole ordeal was highly unprofessional. Do not waste your time here. Other places in Newlyn ie Mackerel sky or the bridge are much better.

As a party of four, we agreed that Newlyn Filmhouse was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've each personally encountered in quite a while. Attempting to book a table for dinner over the phone was dire, having been left hanging for five minutes whilst someone apparently went to check table availability, only to be picked up by another clueless member of staff, equally confused as us and gormlessly rude. The food followed suit; nothing more than low-tier microwave meals. We ate most of it out of politeness and hunger. I paid £14 for a puerile 'Boston Fish Chowder' wish was nothing more than a glorified dish of fish in butter sauce with a morsel of actual seafood; mostly boiled vegetables and potatoes. The accompanying 'toasted thins' were just soft, stale bits of bread. Bitterly disappointing, especially when Mackerel Sky, situated opposite, offers a five-star version of the dish for half the price. The incredibly dry 'Falafel & Goat's Cheese Burger' was equally awful and tasted discouragingly old. The composition of the burger stack was careless and the bun was sorrowful. The accompanying potato fries were white and slightly under-cooked. The disastrous 'Vegetable & Coconut Curry' was unbelievably bland, unseasoned and drowning in faint-tasting hot water. No staff came to check on us during the meal and we were too hungry to bother complaining and it was too late to sort anywhere else out. When our plates were collected, we explained how lamentable the food was and expected to be compensated in some way. Some chap came over and asked if we wanted free coffees as an apology which we declined and instead asked for a discounted bill. We were told the chef thought the food was fine and as we'd had most of it, were not entitled to any recompense. They eventually waived the cost of the drinks (roughly £10). It took the staff 30 minutes after collecting our plates to work out what to do and finally take the payment. We held nothing person with the staff who seemed lovely, but the whole ordeal was wholly unprofessional and overall an abysmal experience. 1 star rating is for the starters (whitebait, olives, bread) which were alright.

Incredibly disappointed with our food and the appalling service. We are a group of younger people who would usually never make a complaint out of sheer awkwardness but were unable to keep our mouths shut this time. My coconut curry was very watery with next to no flavour. We only ate our meals as we had nowhere else to go to eat. The staff took 30 minutes to finally get their act together and give us the bill, with a very generous £10 knocked off (sarcasm). Felt as though we couldn't get through to them about a further discount as they were avoiding speaking to us any further and ended up with a bill of over £70 to pay. Was a very embarrassing experience with the staff laughing at the situation behind the scenes. Very unprofessional.

I visited twice in September - both shows were excellent but the food and service leaves a lot to be desired. First time I plumped for the Thai fish cakes - very bland, salad was limp and fish cakes only just warm. Second time I tried the crab and pea risotto. The risotto was nice, very small portion but I think someone forgot to add the crab! This is a lovely place, perhaps a bit on the pretentious side, but there is absolutely no excuse for food (especially the fish) to lack taste in this day and age, especially in Newlyn which is, after all, a fishing village. The staff on both occasions seemed really unhappy to be working there. Shame, as the place has great potential to be something really quite special.

Last night I had ‘Newlyn crab and pea risotto’, with no sight, smell or taste of any crab - didn’t even taste like ti might have been made with a crab stock; my husband was disappointed with his mackeral burger, which basically was a grilled mackeral tail in a bread bun, unappetising and not very filling.

However, the restaurant is dreadful. The waiting and bar staff do not greet you with a smile - in fact, they are quite surly. The food is less than average quality but this is not reflected in the price. Tough, dry burgers, curry and rice that seems to have come from a packet and microwaved. Slow indifferent, surly service. Last Wednesday's special menu celebrating Mexico's Day of the Dead festival was no exception.Wonderful authentic food wash washed down rather nicely by authentic cocktails.....many with a tequila base obviously! There's always such a great atmosphere here too, and this was helped by the staff donning suitably macabre make up.....thank you all (again) for a superb evening!

Have visited Newlyn Filmhouse Restaurant on several occasions and enjoyed a nice meal before watching a film. However this time the meal was really disappointing. It was Day of the Dead Mexican Special menu for Halloween, the portions were far too small, the pork was very poor quality and I couldn’t even find the crab in my starter and at £9 this was certainly not good value for money. Sadly won’t be returning to eat anytime soon.

What a lovely change from The Odeon! Beautifully presented, comfortable. Two screens, restaurant with a great choice of seafood, bar. Monmouth coffee! All-in-all a lovely cinematic experience.

A perfect way to spend an evening. Film, drink in the comfy seats and then a truly divine meal in the chilled out restaurant. An absolute must if you are in the area.

We went on a wet afternoon to see the latest blockbuster with some apprehension as we've always liked the Savoy in Penzance but decided to give the Newlyn Filmhouse a try. Sorry Penzance, you need to up your game! The Filmhouse is in an old building that has been fabulously restored. There are two screens (we were in screen 1) and it was very steeply raked so no problems with seeing over others heads, and delightfully comfy seats. Even two seater sofas for the, er, young at heart! The sound quality was excellent, the screen large, we just loved it. The café on the first floor looks like it serves good food, and the coffee was delicious. Do note, you are not allowed to take in any food to the screenings at all - no popcorn even! Parking during the day is a slight problem if you want to eat and take in a film as the nearest car park only allows three hours maximum. For four hours stay, park at the back of the art gallery. The Newlyn Filmhouse is a tremendous asset for the area, loved it and will be back.

Ate here last night with a friend. We were very pleased with the whole experience. Food was delicious - we had a shared mezze plate, followed by Chinese Pork (me) and Fishcakes (her). My pork was one of the best meals I have had for ages, and my friend said her fish cakes and, especially, the salad that came with them, were exceptional. I do not eat wheat, and all the staff were helpful and obliging. As a local, I feel proud to have such a lovely place in Newlyn.

Taking new visitors to the Newlyn Filmhouse is always a great pleasure, as they love it so much. The cinema seats are comfortable, and you are allowed to take your wine in with you, but not rustling sweet or crisp packets, which is good. We loved the film, "Swimming with Men" - very funny, yet moving too. And the meals are always excellent, in such a welcoming environment. A very enjoyable evening for all ages.

We booked to see a film here and managed to also book a table in the restaurant before the movie. The food was wonderful, very tasty and very nicely done. We had the falafel burger and the newlyn crab, both of which were delicious. The staff were great and the restaurant itself is very nicely done out, making the whole dining experience one we would repeat any time we are back in the area. The cinema itself was clean, very comfy seats and a very pleasant experience. Staff on reception were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a visit to the restaurant, or the cinema, or both if you can. A lovely family evening.

Visited on a rainy bank holiday Sunday and it was great, as it always is. Loos spotless, cinema spotless, restaurant spotless. A lovely lad and Rebecca (I think!) served us (They were short staffed but we did not suffer) and our lunch after was spot on. Great whitebait, fabulous chicken gyros and scrumptious homemade cakes for pudding. I love this place and am reluctant to tell you about it, in case we can't get seats or a table in the future!

We would never have found this lovely restaurant if we hadn’t been with a friend who had visited before. Don’t imagine you can only go to the restaurant if you’re using the cinema - it’s an experience in its own right. The service is friendly, the menu interesting, generous portions and the food is delicious.

Recently visited the Newlyn Filmhouse to see the latest Mama Mia movie and it was fab. Had comfortable afternoon on a rainy day watching the movie and enjoyed a very nice cappuccino and cake afterwards. Would love to try an evening meal in the trendy restaurant, so cannot wait to come back

First visit to this really well organised but neatly laid back Place to eat. There were seven of us and some had starters and mains, others just starters and, yes, you've guessed, the rest just had mains. Lovely food, well cooked and nicely presented - just cooked 'for us'. Guys just had a couple of beers - good choice from a range of local craft breweries. The youngest member was well served with an adult portion. Service non-intrusive but efficient. All in all a good experience and we'll certainly return! Half of us then watched The Happy Prince in one of the amazingly comfortable small cinemas on site. Altogether a great evenin!

A truly great restaurant - regardless of whether you are seeing a movie or not. Five of us had another delicious meal there on Bank Holiday Monday evening. There's a fair choice on the menu and it's all cooked and presented very well indeed. Coupled with great service - you can't go wrong.

We booked to see The Guernsey Lit Soc film and the chef had prepared a menu to match with bar staff dispensing a wonderful gin cocktail to start. Unbelievable delicious spam fritters, great fish dish and a filling "padded pudding" all served by waiting staff in costume. A display of rationed foods and music from the wartime era all made for a great ambiance.

A fantastic venue to see a film and great that food is not permitted in the cinemas, so no annoying rustling .We also had a wonderful meal afterwards in the restaurant, fortunately we had booked the last table as it was very busy on Easter Monday. There are menu choices to serve a wide range of tastes, the food presentation was excellent and we were served by extremely courteous and attentive staff.Wish there were more places like this!

We have been a number of times to the Newlyn Filmhouse, it has two mini cinemas, each of which has a wheelchair space, two at a push. Advisable to book if you want a wheelchair space. Really nice people who run it and those who work there. They have some interesting films not all of which are mainstream. A great place to see a film and go for a drink/meal before or after.Truly accessible with a lift to the 1st floor. Thoroughly recommended.

Was really looking forward to going to this cinema for two reasons... one the film that I'd been waiting to see for some time and two I'd heard good things about this fairly newly opened "lovely place'. Hmmmm!! it my well look lovely, serve nice food have nice drinks etc etc blar blar which is great if you're going to a restaurant....I wasn't!! weirdly I was going to watch a film, one incidentally that Id been really excited about for some time, simple right? wrong!! unless that is you have incredibly short eye sight! I had the incredible misfortune to be sitting in the front row which unless you watch films in braille is a complete and utter wast of time!! basically watching a movie at this place is the equivalent to kicking yourself in the ear for an hour and a half!! worse over and heaven forbid you make a complaint! no sorry's here friends! just treated with no apology futile excuses and general rudeness! Film review...... A very poor show!!!!!https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g1604568-d10116208-r560511618-Newlyn_Filmhouse-Newlyn_Penzance_Cornwall_England.html#

Went for my birthday meal, had a couple of lovely meals there previously so thought it was a safe option however this time the food was terrible. We both had steak for main which we asked for medium-rare and they were the most overdone bits of chewy meat I’ve ever had. The chips that came with it were almost raw. The older female waitress was extremely rude, and actually snarled at us from across the room when we said we’d like to have our mains slightly delayed. Luckily myself and my husband were in good spirits and didn’t let the terrible food and service affect our evening. There were two very lovely waiters who also served us and made me a delicious cocktail so all was not bad. The cinema and film were fantastic as usual, just a shame that one waitress was so rude and the food was of poor quality this time.

Wow! What a fantastic evening, watching Puccini's best opera, sat in comfortable seats in this wonderful Filmhouse in Newlyn. Not only did I experience the best of live opera, I could walk from home, have a delicious meal in the restaurant, and even take my wine into the performance too. The highlight for me was when Joseph Calleja (the Maltese tenor) sang "The stars were shining brightly" in the final act. I was in tears, it was so moving. Fantastic singing from the other 2 leads too, Adrianne Pieczonka and Gerland Finley. Pure Magic, and much cheaper than tickets at ROH.

First time at the Filmhouse & just booked a show for my parents as we enjoyed it so much. Cosy well laid out cinema which added to the atmosphere of the film "The Darkest Hour": excellent! Our only disappointment was the food that we had: crispy squid starter and duck main: both really over cooked and average for the price. We will most definitely be back again as loved the set up but not to dine.

Went last night to the Filmhouse, enjoyed a great film in the most comfortable cinema I know and then was treated to a lovely meal in the gorgeous restaurant. We could have 2 different vegan dishes almost straight off the menu, almost unheard of in a non veggie place, well cooked food, beautifully presented and served by attentive efficient staff too.

Absolutely wonderful visit. The cream tea was the best I think I’ve ever had. Warm scones, huge pot of cream and delicious jam, must be homemade. The tea was piping hot and came with an additional tea bag should you like it strong.
