I've never had a bad curry here and the food was excellent again this evening. It was very popular, so I'm glad we booked. Since they removed the carpet a few years ago, it's slightly noisy, as there are few soft furnishings to absorb the noise. It also feels a bit chilly - not cold, but on the cool side. The staff are a bit business-like and lack charm with their service, but the food is why we come here.

I have used Newick Tandoori for 17 years. They undoubtedly produce the finest Chicken Tikka there is. I really haven’t had better food - even at some of the finest London restaurants. The staff are always friendly and helpful. This place is a gem.

I have used Newick Tandoori for takeaway lots of times but the last time I dined in was around 10years ago, tonight we went to celebrate my nephews 18th birthday. We all had to pre order and pay a deposit due to there being 28 people, we explained when we booked that we had young children and a couple with disabilities one of which would not be eating. We sent our pre orders that included lots of different side and we received a email back complaining that we hadn’t ordered enough main meals per head and there would be a charge for anyone not eating, I called straight away to again explain when I booked i had explained this and I was told they could cater for this, we had two under 5 and a 2 ten year olds that would not eat adult portions. The manager was not overly impressed but said he would honour the booking. I felt this was very poor considering that most people ordered 2 sides so it was not like we were taking the mick. Anyway we hoped that would be the end of the saga but unfortunately not. Half way through serving everyone the manager lost his temper with the staff for no apparent reason sent them away and walked away saying serve yourself, I was happy to tbh as by this time mort people had nearly finished their meals while the others didn’t even have their food and it was quicker. Most food was at best barely warm but by the time I had sat down mine was cold. Not one of us complained as we were there for my nephew and that was the most important thing. Then it came to payments, prior to coming to the restaurant we had worked out the price of the whole table and checked it several times, well it was a up-to date menu but seamed to come to more and then they hit us with a 10% service charge which is no where on the menu and we had to serve ourselves and provided a better service. I will never order from there again and recommend that you avoid as the owner is rude and abusive to his staff and then they add on imaginary money on his calculator not a itemised till. Who knows what we were paying for as everyone ordered and payed for their drinks at the bar.

Corrr that was a hectic 36hrs, ever since the troup arranged a catch up at the NT i havent slept. "NT??.. sign me up boys!!" Followed bt the ONLY logical question "Nymans or sheffield park?!" Turns out they meant the other NT, Newick Tandoori. Stayed up Tuesday night familiarising myself with the menu and pricing but this time decided to resist the normally irresistable urge to google street view the establishment, or to do a drive by stopping off to establish local opinion on the establishment and peek inside, which ive established i like to do. So the question remained until i was merely a few feet away from the door. Was this tandoori the type which sells ice cream out of a toy penguin OR alternatively was this going to be a mid noughties renovation, with chrome and glass everywhere and a dishevelled laminate floor on view.. not to mention chairs with at least 1 of 4 legs a bit too loose.. (if so ive bought the allen key so not such an issue). Will keep the alllen key secret this time as ive done a whole restaurant before, got 50% off the meal but didnt get home until gone 3am and the wrist gave me hell the next morning, what with all the righty tighty. Talking of which, the bill. Well i may as well have gotten the allen key out because at the risk of sounding right tight, i was gobsmacked at an avg cost per head of £28.34 + service !! Could get that down to £14.17 if needs be, but rather pay full whack and get home for a crunch corner & with my wrist in tact. Facilities ranking - 8/10. I didnt go for a wee, or anything heavier.. but as i was in the toilets on handwash 2 of 3 (between poppadom courses), i took a little peak inside the cubicle and as suspected.. Kimberley Clark, so you can rest assured theyll flush as good as any. Would i head back? Id have to have a screw loose to say no.

I have visited this place four times in the last month. Its always empty when we go. The first time they sat us at the back by the toilet, worst table in the restaurant and why when it's empty from the start of our meal to the finish?! They cant raise a smile between them, no friendly hello.. and the food - its so below average. Meat swimming in bland sauce. I ordered the Prawn bouna, which tasted of nothing, I actually had to add a lot of salt, just to raise some flavour. It was so bland with no spice at all. The prices are also extortionate, £25 a head for a basic curry with a shared rice and naan. We have given it a good go with three visits in a month, but we won't waste our time with another visit. I get the distinct feeling that it is relying on its strong reputation. What a shame and an insult.

I’ve been using this restaurant for years and never had a bad meal. Two of us ordered Simon Special at £13.90 and £14.90. Each. We were asked by the waiter if we wanted it madras hot or madras plus. We ordered one of each. When we got the bill they had charged £1 extra for each one for having it madras hot and Madras plus. I queried it with the manager and looked at the menu which made no mention of it, just saying you can have it medium or hot. The manager got the right hump saying they had to recover costs as prices were going up which I accept. I suggested just put the price of the dish up, don’t put sneaky add-ons. He was extremely rude and stormed off. I’m not sure if we will eat there again which will cost him a lot more than £2 ! However I won’t cut my nose off to spigot my face but please don’t treat your customers like they are stupid and be more courteous if questioned. it’s not the money, it’s the principal.

I have been coming to the restaurant many times over the years and always enjoyed the meal. I recently enjoyed another meal there but something has been praying on my mind. When we received the bill everything was itemised except for one jtem which was for my main meal. A straight selection from the menu - nothing different. On the bill it was classified as “miscellaneous item” or words to that effect. Except we were overcharged quite a bit for this item. I challenged the item and the bill. No explanation was given, I was just presented with the another bill with the correct item and charge. I would be interested to know why an item would not be listed as the menu item anyway and why when this happened it was an overcharge please. I am automatically suspicious about this and I do hope you can explain just so I can continue many more evenings at your restaurant. .

My parents & I were away in Sussex for 2 nights recently, we had booked for dinner here on the 2nd night as it was my parents wedding anniversary. First of all, the parking anyway near this place is a joke, then once we got in & ordered, the service went downhill from there. One waiter who served us was both very dim & rude, he obviously did not believe in SERVING LADIES FIRST, hello my Mum was next to you, so come one, wake up! The food was disgusting meaning that my chicken dish tasted like rubber & the naan bread was poor too, honestly I could have gone to a nearby pub and had a better meal than this slop. Overall, a most disappointing experience & I felt so sorry for my parents, they did not enjoy their meal either. My advice, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE, truly awful indeed,

For the prices charged you would expect something special or at the very least....authentic. Three of us were served pre-cooked chicken in different, unadventurous and dull sauces. The sort of fare you'd expect from a cheap take-away. Decor is just bizzare.... bright lighting and colour schemes straight out of a fast-food design brochure. Ended up spending almost £40 per head for a simple curry each, one naan bread, four g&t's and a bottle of house red....appalling. Save your money and eat at one of the three good pubs in the village.

We very much enjoyed our 2 excellent evening meals at Newick Tandoori. Lovely decor and ambience as well as very friendly and efficient service and excellent, very tasty food. The king prawn kormas were the best we have ever had - anywhere ! (They were not on the menu - but please do ask for anything that's not on there and the chef will be only too happy to cook it for you if he is able to). We dined in the restaurant, but they also offer takeaways. We will certainly return - and will recommend Newick Tandoori to our friends.

Went to the Newick Tandoori as locally it has a good reputation. On arrival the place was packed which seemed a good sign. Initial drinks ordering was quick and after that it all went down hill. After about half an hour I went up to the bar to ask if we could order. Order taken we then waited a very long time for the food. One of our party ordered a duck starter which, when it arrived, was like shoe leather, it had either been under the hot plate for far too long or was just completely over done. Other starters were, at best, fair. Main courses again took a long time. They were middling in quality, chicken in two of the dishes was very dry. Mine was actually OK. Restaurant forgot our cauliflower side, when reminded it arrived but was so overcooked that it was mush and inedible. This is expensive as curry restaurants go. In my opinion the meal was not worth the money, better, cheaper curry houses exist locally. I will not be going back I sorry to say as I would live to support local businesses in the current climate.

Family party of 6 whilst on holiday - and although the food was fresh and tasty, everything else here is disappointing. Food amazingly over priced (from Londoners!?) and service unwelcoming and brusque. Mistakes on the bill - so double check when paying! Such a shame that the rest of the dining experience here is so under par, given quality of food. Perhaps takeaway next time we’re in the area!?

As keen cooks, we stopped visiting Indian restaurants many years ago preferring to cook our own delicious Indian meals at home. But having moved to Newick recently we felt obliged to try the Newick Tandoori. Sadly we were very disappointed - we visited early on a Saturday evening and as the restaurant is quite large, there was little atmosphere. Service was courteous and efficient but the food was very disappointing. I ordered the prawn biryani. The portions were generous but the meal was greasy and both the biryani and accompanying vegetable curry was lacking in spice and heat. I will not be returning.

This little village of Newick has a top class Tandori restaurant with lovely smiley staff and beautiful clean linen table cloths and napkins. I had tandoori prawns which were deliciously cooked after some lightly fried popadoms and mango sauce/chutney. The boys had big cobra beers and the ladies had Sauvignon Blanc kiwi wine. The children chose very delicate starters which were happily consumed. They were delighted with the after eights when the bill came. Nothing was bad. I think the three other adults has very satisfactory dishes such as butter chicken, special fried rice, chicken jalfrezi etc.

This is not your ‘let’s have a curry/pub session’ restaurant. This is an authentic Indian top restaurant that lets you travel in your mind to India. You will experience a delicious variety of flavours, methods of cooking, which are recipes which have come from India. If you aren’t adventurous (which you really should try) there are the regular Indian dishes. Our favourite is Shams special sharing platter with Pheasant, Chicken, King Prawn, Bahjee with beetroot, mango sauces .... heaven on a plate. We have been visiting this restaurant for over twenty years and our children have even chosen to have their 18th birthday meals there because it is that good and it is their favourite.

Have been coming here for years and bit by bit you get less for your money. Ordered Chichen Tikka and this now comes without sauce or salad, just a dish on its own. Also., the rice is now served in a very small bowl, very strange when this is such a cheap commodity. Furthermore, one of us had chicken Madras which was flavourless and very small. You are encouraged to order many side dishes, which due to the small size of the portions you now need to leave the restaurant feeling full. .I used to love the way they would bring hot shelves to the table too but this is now gone. If you are going to take hot shelves away you must provide hot plates to keep the food warm. Also, a can of cheap lemonade placed on the table for £2.50 with no ice or lemon and not even poured. They have a captive audience there, given where they are and this may be the problem. The service is less, the portions are smaller and the prices go up and service should never be automatically put on the bill. Sadly I need to find somewhere else to go.

Staff appeared a bit stressed and not very welcoming. The food was quite average unfortunately. My dish was described as medium hot but there wasnt a hint of spice in it.The mushrooms tasted as though they were of the tinned variety and had simply been boiled in their own juices. It was an ok experience all round but the meal (in terms of flavours) could have had more effort put into it.I will perhaps give it another try because it could have been just a one off bad night.

We have just returned from the Newick Tandoori - feeling very disappointedThe restaurant was very busy - We had to wait along time for our main course -which arrived poorly presented - small portions and lacking overall. I ordered a Chicken Tikka that arrived without any salad or sauces (something I have always had accompany the meal) When I asked the waiter -when he eventually came over after our meal he told me they had stopped doing it but I could have asked for it If I told him(why did he not ask me when I ordered?) The chicken was dry and usually I would have had the sauces - again he was not very interested ! and his reply was "oh! did you not get the sauces" ! I told him the chicken was dry and not very nice without these he just shrugged and said I would get them next time !-Very poor ! My husband ordered a Chicken Madras which was a small portion with very little chicken - this is a meal he has often but sadly it was lacking in flavour at the Newick Tandoori. It was very apparent there are many regulars at this restaurant that received the attention of the management asking if everything was ok - as for a number of us other diners- we did not feature -not once were my husband and I asked if the meal was ok. We could not get the attention of any of the waiters .We will not be returning to the Newick Tandoori restaurant.

A well presented indian restaurant. Beautifully decorated and a very warm, friendly set of waiters. Always make it a must to go there when we go to England and visit friends and family. The food choice is excellent and is very well presented at all times and of the right temperature.

On the camping trail was getting tired of pub dinners, so tried this place out. Wow, the portions are generous and the flavours of each of the dishes ordered were scummy. Being a fan of Indian food I am somewhat fussy, so was very pleased. Fantastic quality.

Ate here in August, 2016. Just two of us, and we were early so it was pretty quiet in the restaurant. It's one of my local restaurants, so I tend to visit every few months.Started with 3 papadoms and chutneys. No problems here! Sometimes I wish they would put a hot pickle but to be fair my partner likes the mix they offer.Mains were chicken shashlik (loads of chicken and nicely cooked) plus Lal Mirchi Chicken. This is described as hot and spicy with dried red chillies. To be honest, I didn't think it was really hot and spicy, but very enjoyable. It was as described though, and I disliked the dried chillies as they were exactly that, dried and not pleasant to chew. But not problem I fished them out and gobbled up the rest.Pilau rice and cauliflower bhajee accompanied these. The cauli was delicious too.A big cobra and a sizeable glass of red washed it down.Attentive staff, with good service. The bill was £44.Obviously I will be back as its my local Indian, and I always enjoy a meal here.

We have been regular users of this restaurant for many, many years. Mainly for takeaways but also the odd eat-in. Our last takeaway was 6 days ago when we had friends staying who live in Malaysia. They loved the food.

Had heard great reviews on this restaurant but sadly I was disappointed as the chicken in my chicken korma was very dry and overcooked

Nice ambiance , great service , sadly lacking in flavour and kick , would give another try but this spoiled what would have been a perfect meal.

went for a meal out a place i have been and enjoyed in the past, starter was fine delicious, but scant clues about the rest, perhaps we are ignorant, perhaps we are spoiled, we have much better descriptions of our food closer to home, we have an idea of the components, the heat of spice to expect, here there was little information. the food while essentially ok, was not more than that, my wifes 'medium' lamb curry came with spice but no fire at all, not even to call it mild, after complaining about this we had a good medium spiced plate back, not a vengeful one, why couldn't they have done that as a medium first time, my meal was also on reflection also rather bland but i had not been inclined to point it out, but it certainly wouldn't bring me back in a hurry. service too was an issue we seemed to be in the waiters way. we shouldn't feel like that.brill photography though

In my opinion one of the best Indian restaurants in the South East. A definite regular venue for my wife and I .

Came here on two occasions last year for the first time in a while and I was very impressed. This restaurant has been going for years so they must be doing something right. First time around I had one of their specials, lamb shoulder, which was tender and of large portion size. On the second visit I reverted back to my favourite Indian dish, chicken dansak, enabling me to judge against other restaurants. One of the most popular Indian restaurants in the Sussex area is Tarana in Turners Hill, but in my opinion this was better, with superb flavours. Side dishes such as sag poneer and the bhajis were excellent too. Definitely worth travelling out of town for.

Ate here in January - treated by a pal I had helped all day.Papadoms and pickles were excellent. Can't go wrong with a couple of Cobra either :-)Sheek kebabs and duck were the starters, both loveky and served with tamarind sauce.I had chicken biryani, huge!! Ate about 1/2 of the fried rice, but enjoyed everything else.My pal had the tandoori mix grill, with a plain nan. Looked lovely, and I tried the nan, and that was delish...Bill with a tip - around £50 (but that's a guess as I was treated)Always enjoyable here.I will be back.

Each time we've either eaten in or taken food away, we don't eat meat or dairy and they are so accomodating even at their busiest periods. They do delicious Brinjal Bhaji and some superb vegetable curries, they aren't laden with oil and leave you satisfied and we get a 20% discount when we take away - amazing!

there is no no doubt this is the best around for miles , food is quite pricey but overall i would rather pay more for good quality food!My point is i eat in the restaurant and have lots of take a ways which are always nice but i was very disappointed to see they have reduced again the portions on everything in the containers and when you eat in , and i left still a bit on the peckish side when i left after spending 70.00 plus tip for two with bottle wine. think will have to just keep for really special occasions .

Distinct flavours and a lack of oiliness make the Newick Tandoori a good place if you want more than a bog-standard Asian food experience. I love the delicate Tarka Dhal and the interesting dill-flavoured rice that came with a spinach chicken special. Yummy tikka masala for my unadventurous teenage son. The restaurant is smart and spacious. One member of staff who looked after us was professional and knowledgable, the other a little more ... bemused, and confused by his tablet for orders. But all-in-all a very good dinner.

Have been an occasional customer for some 25 years. Always used to be very good. Recently returned after an absence of a couple of years. Same proprietors ...an awful experience. Chciken Tikka Masala main course?Nah .... it really should not turn up like a plate of soup with a couple of bits of chicken floating in it. Protests met with a "So what?" attitude. Risk it if you must. We will not.

Since discovering the restaurant last year we have been a number if times, The menu is interesting and varied and the service excellent. I usually choose one of their more unusual curries but on this occasion decided on the chicken tikka bhuna. The meal was very tasty and enjoyable. We had a bottle of New Zealand pinot noir and a couple of beers. The restaurant is a little more expensive than some but we have never been disappointed with the experience and will continue to use it as our favourite East Sussex curry house.

Family of 5 with 10, 14 and 16 year old. We all had adult portions and the kids even managed to sweep the plates with 3 courses. Service was great - always is - friendly and professional. Highlights were prawn balti and chicken tikka on the bone. We could have had hotter curries and weren't asked about choice of heat. Kids raved about the mango ice-cream. All good, perhaps needed a little more spice. Moderate price. Enjoyable night and we all finished everything!

Ordered mixed starter £8-9 piece of chicken, 2 piece of lamb, about a bites worth of sheek kebab and 1 tiny tiny samosa, really poor. Vindaloo not much flavour and chicken really small and no potato. Busy Saturday night so no idea why food was so poor
