Wow… this was a little gem… ate on a Friday, and ended up sharing a paté, 2 mains and a blackberry/apple crumble and all for £20. 2 course is £12 on a most days.. Friday is £10!! Every main meal looked amazing, whether on our table or others. it was certainly value for money and we both left very full. I had the chicken and bacon pie. Service was very kind.

Went for lunch today, having been before a few years ago. The food was really good and left us both completely full. We both had the sirloin steak, which is unusual as we rarely have the same meal when we go out and it was well cooked and left us wondering if we would have room for pudding. We both had ice cream sundaes - one eaton mess with fresh strawberries and the other with chocolate brownies and marshmallow. They were so big we though we would not be able to eat it all - but they were delicious and nothing was left in the bowl. The lady serving the food was also extremely friendly, although it was quite quiet when we went - if the place was busy maybe she would not have the time to chat as much.

Lovely little restaurant. Blink and you miss it, on the corner in a tiny Kent village. Tasty food, friendly owner and staff. I took my mum as a last minute booking on Easter Sunday. They squeezed us in and I’m glad I called. Large portions, good menu selection. As a veggie I was very happy with my shepherdess pie, so tasty, with a huge cheesy mash. Mum had roast chicken. We were full but dessert is included in the price so we went for trifle. It was huge! It’s a place that attracts regulars, as people arrived they were greeted as friends. I’m looking forward to afternoon tea there in the summer.

We have relatives in Hythe and St Mary's Bay and visited Newchurch House on and off for years, it's strange that I've not thought of writing a review before but on this occasion our intended party of 4 was suddenly reduced to half due to illness. Rather than let them down and cancel the table with only a couple of hours notice we invited our neighbours to make the 45 minute trip with us and surprise Michelle and Daisy (waitress of 8 years) with different guests. We chose 4 different drinks, 4 different starters, 4 different mains oh and 3 different desserts. As always we were made to feel welcome and served in a lightly jovial but totally efficient manner with freshly cooked nice meals and all parts were declared delicious during the return journey. I see some comments about dated, yes I suppose it is but I'd prefer to call it comforting, one of those places you discover and ask yourself why it's taken so long. Our neighbours have vowed to return sometime soon and we certainly will.

Money is tight for me and my partner when I saw this restaurant offers a 2 course lunch on a Friday for £10 and happened to have the week off I booked. I had already explored the menu on their website I was shocked at the choices you can have for such good value! My boyfriend opted for prawn cocktail and a beef bourgignon and Stilton pie with roast potatoes and veg while I had a spicy chicken on a homemade flat bread with mint yoghurt starter then a beautiful homemade lamb hot pot! We both had a beer but a great range of beers wines and spirits are available! Everything was delicious and mostly homemade great service! We will be back

Visited today for Sunday lunch with my wife. We were made extremely welcome on arrival. Although I had booked a table we could have been sitting anywhere within the restaurant. We had a super table within a bay window with excellent views of outside area. My wife and I opted for the Sunday lunch menu which was very reasonably priced with a selection of 4 meats plus a specials board. I had a starter of garlic mushrooms followed by roast lamb. My wife had melon followed by chicken. My garlic mushrooms had to be one of the best I have had for ages. The lamb was one of those meals you don’t want to end. My wife’s choice was equally as good. We both shared a desert which rounded off a throughly enjoyable Sunday lunch. Will we be returning. Of course we will. All I can say is that if you are ever in the area this restaurant is a must visit and I am confident you will not be disappointed.

We agree with previous reviews unfortunately you are greeted with the small of cigarette smoke which is so unusual in 2019 and the entire experience is out of the 1970s including the background music. A shame as it sounds as if lunchtime is better and perhaps afternoon tea but we expect a better experience and not pub grub from an evening meal in a restaurant.

My first visit to Newchurch house in Romney Marsh but definitely not my last. We went here for Easter Sunday lunch on my girlfriends recommendation as she’d been here a few times with her family. I was not disappointed, a warm welcome on our arrival, as we where shown to our table we were told of the days specials and viewed the menu which I found hard to choose from as everything looked so amazing. Real home cooked meals with good sized portions and delicious desserts from this family run restaurant. Prices were very responsible too. It got very busy as we were there so I’d advise booking your table in advance. It was a gloriously sunny day as we tucked into our lunch in a very comfortable atmosphere, looking out across the fields watching the lambs playing. There is parking behind the restaurant.

Once again we left it too long before a return visit to Newchurch House. The restaurant was quiet (only to be expected on an awful Winter's evening) but a warm welcome and food that was clearly cooked freshly to order made it a very enjoyable occasion. The portions were large and accompanied by a dish containing six (yes, six!) different fresh vegetables. Along with sensibly priced wine and a very comprehensive choice of deserts (that only one of our party managed to devour) it all added up to a very good evening.

First visit to this restaurant, although have tried previously to book, but had always chosen an evening when they were closed.Very enjoyable food cooked by someone who obviously knows what they are doing. Vegetables were perfect & everything beautifully presented. Couldn't fault my chicken stuffed with mushroom main course.Where the restaurant lets its self down is on front of house. When the telephone reservation for four was made the lady (owner?) taking the call, was informed that one of the group regrettably has an allergy to gluten & dairy; her response didn't leave the caller feeling confident. On arriving the same lady wasn't very knowledgeable about the menu & had to keep popping back to the kitchen to check the contents of the dishes!! A more professional approach is needed.Allergies to gluten & dairy sadly are not a lifestyle choice. Anything containing either can make the person very ill. It's a shame, because had we just walked in or the restaurant been busy, she could of possibly been half excused but having taken the trouble to highlight the dietary requirements on booking, I do feel that her attitude could have been better. At worst it came across as very unprofessional.

We came here recently with friends after the restaurant having rave reviews from friends and also being deeply impressed by the reviews on this site. On that basis our collective experience could be a one off and you may come to a different conclusion. We ordered a starter and a main course from an extremely wide menu and in all truth the results were satisfactory or pleasing for all the party. The disappointment was with the main course. We all had something different and without exception felt that the food was bland low quality ingredients. None of us felt that it was worth the money even though being a Friday it was offered at a lower cost. The service was prompt and efficient and the wine pleasant. However now deterred we won't be going back but I will watch the site with interest to see whether anyone else is also unhappy in their experience here.

I chose the restaurant based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. Would highly recommend.

We had heard good reports about this place. Well eventually we booked and had a pleasant surprise. Traditional Sunday Roast with a cod option. Excellent starters followed by an excellent roast, I had the cod option which was scrumptious. The final bill proved to be excellent value. A definite return will be on the cards.

We visited on Thursday 3rd July on our wedding anniversary and was greeted by the owner Michelle. She was very welcoming and despite the fact that we were the only diners our meal was excellent and well worth the money. Would not hesitate recommending to anyone.

Came here with friends one lunch time. My friends love the place and I can understand why. It's in a small village - a very relaxed and tranquil setting. The restaurant is very homely and comfortable and the hostess very welcoming and friendly. The food - especially at lunchtime - is great value for money. The starters were almost as big as the main course, which in itself was huge. Needless to say there was no room for dessert! The 'homely' feel is enhanced by the fact that there is home made jams & chutney's for sale. A nice touch. My one criticism is that there are artificial flowers on the tables and artificial vines around the wooden beams. It is a little 'tacky' and it wouldn't cost the earth to put a couple of real flowers in a small vase on each table. It's often the little things that make the difference. But this should not distract from the fact that Newchurch House offers great value and excellent service.

The hostess was attentive friendly and fun but not to intrusive. The food was absolutely wonderful the best I have had in ages. Portion size large go hungry you won't be hungry when you leave. Well worth the money will visit again and would definitely recommend

Helping my aunt celebrate her 80th birthday very recently was made even more pleasurable with the fantastic service and food provided by Michelle and the rest of the staff. Food is superb, hot, well cooked and plentiful. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone and didn't mind travelling all the way from Wales to enjoy the pleasures at Newchurch House. It is well worth it. Can't wait to visit again.

Having friends who can be critical, both wives being experienced cooks, I booked for our Wedding Anniversary meal here, having done a 'trial run' on Valentines Day. An extremely pleasant evening, food, service, atmosphere all faultless. When I received the bill for the six of us I asked if the drinks had been included - they had - they just don't rip you off like other restaurants! The owners resist the temptation to 'cram them in' and limit numbers in the evening to ensure they can give an excellent service and they certainly do that.I disagree totally with Kevin H as one friend had steak and I and another had Rump of Lamb- -good size and delicious. Two friends shared a starter and were still too full for dessert and I had to help my wife finish her cheeseboard! I have averaged the cost out assuming all had a full meal of three courses less drinks - £20.95 - that is value for money in anybody's book and all of us look forward to returning.

The decor is like being transported back to 1975 a kind of cross between a nondescript pub and a chinese takeaway. The food is in keeping with the period feel. I had a steak. The tiny thing came on a large plate accompanied by three onion rings one mushroom and half a tomato. We had asked for chips and a salad but were told that it came with saute and vegetables and the soggy bowl of vegetables and some saute potatoes duly arrived. We didn't bother staying for desert. The food and decor may have been 1970's but the prices at £17 for my dismal steak are very 2013.

You might want your sat-nav to track down this little gem nestling on the Romney Marsh. It's a cosy, welcoming delight, with a well-balanced menu making choosing what to have the most difficult part of the experience. Home-made soup and home-made pate were among the starters and the tempting mains included game pie and a fine roast. Great value and hard to find anything not to like.

This restaurant offers a unique blend of atmosphere, hospitality and culinary excellence. What is most refreshing about the experience is that you do not feel like you are being sold a lifestyle choice or that you need to fit into some kind of clique, everyone is made to feel welcome and relaxed. Newchurch House provides a varied and comprehensive range of dishes, expertly presented in a comfortable and relaxed setting. The quality of the food speaks for itself and having visited this restaurant many times I can honestly say I have never been left disappointed.

We first found Newchurch House Restaurant about three years ago when using a online search engine to find restaurants in the area. After our first meal there, we were hooked! So much so, that Newchurch House Restaurant is the ONLY restaurant we go to! When you have had the best, why look for something else which will not live up to your expectations!Every dish we have had has been well cooked, well presented and great value for money. The service is also second to none. Nothing is too much trouble for Michelle. We have also had Christmas Day dinner there which was amazing and we're looking forward to going again this Christmas.I suggest you try Newchurch House Restaurant when you are next looking for somewhere to go to eat. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed and it is very probably that you, like us, will become frequent customers!

I booked this restaurant on spec having found their website from a random search for restaurants in the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch area. We went for Saturday lunch to celebrate my wife's Birthday. Four adults and two children aged 5 and 18 months. We were not disappointed. It was fantastic. We could not have been made more welcome. The food was truly outstanding, with good portions, beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. The setting is tranquil. We will definitely be making a point of visiting the Newchurch House on a regular basis. Highly recommended. I would also recommend their homemade jams, marmalade and chutney. Superb!

We have been to this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. It is always difficult to choose what to have - as you want to sample each and everyone of them - The New Romney Lamb Rump is excellent and I have had that several times, all the other dishes are exceptional - if you are lucky enough to get a table that overlooks the marsh, then, this is fantastic - Michelle and Mark do an excellent job running what is the best restaurant in the Marsh - its personal, its quaint, its unique. For anyone who wants really really good home produced, locally sourced food and good prices, then I would recommend this to you. The cheeseboard can feed a small army !! We have also been to lunch where you can get 2 /3 courses for about £11!. We took our friends there last night and they are now sold - one of the Marshes culinary treasures. Chris

I have to say since having my baby, I’ve been here twice, and it’s the most unwelcoming place I’ve felt being a Mum. The first experience, I had to change my baby on the floor of the toilets as there are no baby changing facilities available. (A mat you can place on the floor is kindly leant against the wall of the ladies toilets. That’s the extent of it). When booking with a high chair, there is no mention that there is no designated baby changing facilities. The second time I came I just didn’t bother trying, as I was advised that a table can be moved into the ladies loo if I don’t want to change her on the floor. We were kindly given a high chair as requested. However the type of high chair provided, my daughter is just ever so slightly still too small for (she is 13 months-the straps just don’t hold her in enough, not a fault of the pub, just a generic high chair that we aren’t quite ready for, in some places we’ve been the straps have been secure enough but sadly this one was not). So I decided to get my pushchair in and use that for her to sit and eat in so she’s safely secure. When it came to the attention of the staff that I was going to get the push chair, I have to say I have never been made to feel more of an inconvenience than I was today. Since having my child. I was met with comments “you’re going to get your push chair!?” Like it was a travesty. And then met with an enormous amount of comments, looks and whispers and fussing around me, about how this was going to take up too much room, we’d inconvenience other guests (may I add no one came to sit at the table we were next to at the time for the entirety of our stay!?), there was ample room for someone to sit and not be anywhere near the pram. But instead we had to take all our things and move…right in the doorway!? Where the pram was then right in the way of everyone coming in and out or passing to the main restaurant. I have never been treated so poorly in any establishment since becoming a Mum. It’s played on my mind all day and quite frankly I feel humiliated. I wish I’d known this before coming and I won’t be going again, and I want to as a Mum, let other Mums know. And give the restaurant a chance to accept my feedback and maybe make small changes to be more welcoming to mums with small children. There was another family with a baby in a pram across the way, I don’t think they received the same treatment, but I would stress this is not a baby friendly restaurant at all at the moment. My advice as a mother, is if someone calls to advise of a baby on the booking, advice them that there are no baby facilities, even if you have plans to add it in, it’s not there now and changing a baby on the floor is not acceptable or sanitary, bringing in a table without relevant safety features is equally not acceptable. In addition, be aware that some people may be bringing a pram as well as the need for a high chair. Every mother has a different scenario they bring when going out with their children.
