Beach 48 in Shepway

Spent the day in Dymchurch during the Easter Holidays and decided to try our luck at getting a table here. We did and we were glad we did! The fish was beautiful! Can't fault the staff or the food. Highly recommend.

Never disappointed with the food or service. This time we dined in for a treat. Walked to our table, asked about our day. Felt valued. Ordered fish n chips and pie n chips. Perfection. Curry as well. Please try and you will be supporting a local business that hires local people. Also their cakes are lovely.

Very enjoyable lunch at Beach 48 on Friday 17 November 2023. The restaurant was well run, clean with efficient and friendly service. The menu was varied and our meals were both delicious. My husband’s ’Lunch Special’ was particularly great value with cod and chips, a hot drink and the pudding of the day all for £10! An absolute bargain. Two very satisfied new customers and we’ll definitely be returning there for lunch on our next bike ride.

Our meals were great, particularly my husband’s cod, chips and mushy peas ‘lunch special’ - an absolute bargain at £10 which included a coffee and a delicious hot pudding. Such great value! The staff were friendly and efficient and the restaurant clean and well run. The only small improvement would possibly be some background music. Definitely recommend this cafe and will be heading straight back on our next bike ride along this beautiful coast. Forgot to mention the home made cakes on display which looked divine!

Got a takeaway of fish and chips to eat by the sea. Chose the senior portion for £6 as we didn’t want too much. It was actually a really generous portion, and very filling. Fantastic fresh fish, delicious crispy batter, great chips and amazing value. Thank you!

First time trying service for takeout was quick but could not cut pie up was hard pastry was overdone chips were greasy in bottom of box and tasted too soft fish was done okay but won’t buy there again

Visited Beach 48 on 11 October, what a lovely place, the staff were very friendly and helpful, it was no trouble to open the second door so I could enter easily in my wheelchair, there was plenty of room between tables which helped to create a relaxed atmosphere, there was a good selection of tasty meals on the menu, the waitress told us about the special they do which was fish and chips with a choice of pudding I opted for the chocolate sponge and custard, when it arrived it was a generous portion so hubby happily shared it with me, all the food was freshly cooked and delicious, the restaurant was clean and bright, the toilet is suitable for wheelchair users and was immaculate, the only thing that maybe useful would be a handrail to help the more frail rise from the throne. Both hubby and I would definitely Visit Beach 48 again when we are next in the area.

Todays (Thursday 21st) chips for some reason absolutely disgusting, not sure what’s happened just in edible. fish as always just brilliant.

We visited twice...once to takeaway and once to sit in. Both times the fish was delicious and perfectly cooked and the chips plentiful. The people serving were pleasant and helpful

Top notch Fish and Chips.We ate in and also had a takeaway. Cod,Plaice, battered sausage and mince and onion pie all lovely.Chips were well cooked.Good portions,well priced and friendly staff. Sit in is typical Chip Shop sit down.Kept tidy and nice and clean..

Best fish & chips in kent, real old fashioned type but at the same time has tastefully been modernised. Clean and tidy, staff polite and friendly and reasonably priced.

Perfect fish and chips all round for 4 of us. We enjoyed eating our meal on the beach. Good portion sizes and freshly cooked The only negative was we could not identify the haddock so distinguishing the haddock by labelling the box would have been helpful. Great value. Definitely recommend.

The restaurant offers both takeaway and table service. We decided to wait for a table which took about 15 minutes. The staff were very friendly and we all ordered cod and chips. Good sized portions of both and they were perfectly cooked. All the plates went back empty which showed the quality of the food. Will definitely return.

yesterday early evening i fancied sausage & chips while in dymchurch & decided on beach 48- wish i had,nt choose this place. this was not alot of money £4.70 one portion, the chips a were soggy white mess - not even cooked ! the sausage i broke in half has to cool it down was my thinking , but it was cold inside & once again a soggy uncooked mess- even my dog would not eat it.

food is cooked by teenagers cod was over cooked chips over cooked on the outside raw inside total waist of £25 for 2 people i did tell the staff it was poor got no response

Classic Fish and Chips, staff really welcoming. Was busy but worth the wait, would definitely recommend.

Used to be really good. Defo changed this year. Chips used to be the best, erm.. Don’t have a pie! Was hard and dry clearly not fresh. Dymchurch is changing imho cos of this.

Absolutely lovely meal. Obviously it is very busy with the time of year but we were lucky and turned up just as they had a table free. A lovely young lady just said can we wait a couple of minutes for her to clean it and set up for us which I really liked. Food was lovely and very good value. I wish I'd had room for the lovely cakes on display. I plan on visiting again for the vienesse whirls. It was only on the way home I realised I forgot to tip. I will tip double in future as the staff are a credit

Nice piece of cod and fantastic chips

The takeaway cod and chips was absolutely superb. Gorgeous curry sauce too (slightly fruity taste). Very reasonable prices. Friendly service.

Alot has changed in 3 years,gone down hill big time , 3 years ago I had the special which was cod, chips, salad, mashy pies, cake and custard and a hot drink all for £7 each and was delicious . Couldn't rate them any higher. Now just the chips and the fish is £10.50 .cake £3,Drink around the same. Chips are horrible ,dry and tasteless. Small fish,hardly any batter. Served on paper which you and up slicing into. You no longer get salad or peas as a side. Service is slow yet plenty of staff. We ordered drinks and ended up having to wait while 2 tables who order after us got their tea before we got our cappuccinos. Which was mainly milk and Luke warm and the girl who served us was lovely but her long 2 inche nails where all over my plate and coffee cup which she spilt as cants hold things with the nails. Staff are all friendly and nice. But it's the food and price thats lost my original high rating.

It was amazing, very clean, very nice looking place. Team was very friendly. Food was very delicious, we had the £9 lunch deal of fish & chips, coffee and dessert. We will be back soon and recommend everyone to come to try the place.

Fish and chips for the family and i 10 out of 10 for the food. Restaurant has a 5 star hygenie rating which is reassuring Dining in wise, the place is relatively spacious Toilets inside are very clean and tidy Food arrived relatively quickly and service from staff was good Definitely recommend

Incredible fish and chips, will come again

Reviews of the chippies and pubs around here are mixed to say the least. We had trouble choosing one. We plumped for Beach 48 and it was fine. Good selection of fish, freshly cooked and good chips. Nice, prompt, smiley service.

A lot of batter in the fish, undercooked fries, tasteless watery coffee, I do not recommend it

It was rather busy, but got served quickly outside! We had a portion of large chips, some cod bites and a battered sausage of which all of it was great! The chips were very hot, thick and fresh a little undercooked for some pallets that prefer a crisper chip, but perfectly fine! I love Haddock I'll give this a try, next time we are down there!

Great food, served quickly inspired of being very busy, you can always tell a good fish and chip shop from the length of the queue

No question about it - THE best fish and chips (the sausages are lovely too). Service is great, staff are very friendly. Fish is done perfectly and so are the chips. See you soon!

Tasty fish and chips. Poor quality, terrible chocolate milk shake. Still a best place around sea side to have fish and chips.

Disappointing. For all of those reviews I was expecting something more. Chipsa was soggy and had faint colour. I had rock as a fish and it wasn't great either, it definitely could be fried a bit less.

Sorry but this has gone down hill. Chips were ok but very mushy and stuck together. The fish cake was like some cheap Iceland budget choice and the sausage had me on the toilet 2 hours later, you can’t even call it a.sausage it had pink bits in it and probably no more than 20% meat. If this is your business you should provide quality food as you certainly pay a lot for substandard grub in my mind.

So glad I came in here. Food was lovely and had a good deal on £9 for fish & chips, dessert and a drink. The girls and customers were lovely and welcoming, very chatty. Definitely worth a visit.

Normal choice of fish and chips menu, good prices and well presented. Staff are really helpful. High chairs available for little ones and a good kids menu available. Noticed that staff are happy to move chairs out of the way to accommodate wheelchair users. Will be back again when in the area, hopefully when the weather gets warmer

Ideal if you fancy something to eat if you're just coming off the beach, reasonably priced and good food

My wife and I had a great time at this Restaurant and could thoroughly recommend it. The staff were really friendly with nothing too much trouble. We had the special fish and chip meal with drink and sweet and came to £18 in all. The meal was delicious and the portions excellent. Now to be our regular eating place when coming down from Bexley to Dymchurch.

Everything was very good at Beach 48, however the food could use a little bit of an improvement. The burger was quite dry and the bun kept falling apart, great experience though!

Just bought a child’s meal and some hot chocolates then realised we could eat in as the baby needed feeding to be told they would charge £2.50 EACH to seat down what a cheek that’s our custom going somewhere else. No wonder places are closing when they take libertys.

Really great haddock & chips! The chips especially were super tasty and robust. Also tried the local fish (rock/ Huss) - this was quite meaty like a cod but had the sweetness of a plaice. I wouldn’t get it in fish n chips again to be honesty but would shine in a curry. The coffee walnut cake was a bit dry, but excellent tea! Lovely service and our hostess gave us great local touristy tips

Our fish and chips were very nice and the portions were a good size. The lower rating is because the customer toilets were broken meaning we had to use the public toilets across the road (which were very stinky).

Fantastic food only problem is, much cheaper for takeaway. Will definitely be back. Take away OR eat in. Service is impeccable.

Absolutely the best fish and chip shop I’ve eaten from! Extra crispy but non greasy batter, fresh fluffy chips and delicious curry sauce! Well worth a long drive for!! 5 of us ate full meals plus some sides for under £40!! We will be back!

Visited today for lunch, it was very good, and good value for money. Our meals were freshly cooked, hot and good portion sizes. Plenty of choice on the menu. Tables cleaned between customers, this is a very clean and tidy restaurant. Service was very quick and efficient. All the staff were friendly, polite and smiling. Very busy we had no wait for a table. Recommended

Seemed clean and tidy but I had a poor piece of cod- had a lot of liquid coming from the fish and the batter was hard not crispy Looking at the other reviews I may have just been unlucky on a very hot busy day

We have always looked forward to visiting but today it was horrible not sure if you have changed products but if I had been eating in we would have sent all three meals back, we won’t be returning

Delicious. We were ready for haddock and chips, but sadly there was none. However we took a chance on the cod. WOW it was fantastic. Beautiful light batter and crispy golden chips. Great tea. Staff friendly and helpful.

When I am at home, always get my fish chips from here. Always popular and can get busy, however polite and helpful staff and the food is great.

Great tasty cod, perfectly cooked. Would be better if wrapped in some greaseproof paper to soak up some of the oil. £5.50 cod, £7.50 with chips. They do haddock, plaice, as well.
