Newcastle Marriott Hotel Gosforth Park in Newcastle upon Tyne

Had to persuade the bar staff to let me have a restaurant meal in the bar to start with, apparently the two are not normally mixed, ie bar meals in the bar, restaurant food in the restaurant. Thankfully I eventually got my way and settled in front of one of the many large screen TV's around the bar area. Food took a little time to arrive with a delay between my starter and main course arriving but no major issues. The food was as expected - it was OK if slightly expensive but served by friendly staff. Early start in the morning meant I didn't get to test drive the breakfast so can't comment on it but I think next time I stay I might be tempted to see what other places there are to eat in the area.

What is it with Hotels that think they have carte blanche to charge stupid prices to people, and I mean people who work on the road travelling all the time in general, if your a tourist and pay then thats up to you. The food for 5 of us was ok but around 14 pounds for a 3 quid burger, thats nothing special, well thats 5 of us not coming back to eat at this bar and grill

We understand the hotel has recently changed hands and this takes time but being served two different chicken dishes both undercooked is something that shouldn’t happen. The bar is comfortable, presentation was good and the front of hour staff were pleasant. This may have simply been a very unfortunate visit for us but would definitely put us off returning again.

We decided to return to the site of our wedding reception 30 years ago. The staff made it feel like a special evening and the quality of the food and service was superb and good value

Really good - so many hotel eateries are bland and disappointing, but this was top notch. Good quality ingredients and well cooked. Really pleasant and friendly service - they even picked up that it was our wedding anniversary and brought us complimentary champers!

Whilst The Marriott breakfast was first class, as was the evening meal. Now Britannia Hotel, hope you like Chicken!!!!!

The food was tasty and well presented. Service was good and friendly. Food was hot as were plates. My steak was nice and tasty, cooked just right. My wife’s Sea Bass looked very good and was well presented. The wine was good All in all a good meal

Enjoyed our evening meal here during our stay. The menu however is very limited for this type of hotel. Surroundings are pleasant if dated

They have fixed menus which are quite interesting but very filling - good value overall. Breakfast is also sufficient but not extravagant.

I ate in the restaurant, as I had booked a half-board for a single overnight stay. Very impressed with the food and service. I had the most gorgeous tomato soup, followed by the Cast Iron burger. Finished with the brownie :-)

It's hard to get a sandwich wrong. No description of what it came with yet arrived with a pot of watery coleslaw and those horrendous potpouri crisps things. I buy cheap reformed ham for my dog. I dont expect to see it on a £7.50 sandwich.

The food was hot and appeticing on all the meals I had from the special menue that did a twocourse or three course and if a couple if you took the three course you got a bottle of wine and the meal cost £59 for the two

Stayed one night enjoyed good meal and quick service. Breakfast was good but crockery was dirty and sent back. Busy with coach party all wanting breakfast at the same time. Not enough staff to cope.

We both had the set menu starter main course and sweet £67 including 12.5% service charge that we did not have to pay. Starter was ok nothing special then main course we both had the rump steak not great most of it was gristle and not cooked like we had asked sweet was ok service was very good . What I find hard to understand this hotel is advised as a luxury hotel but it's a long way from being luxury.

Club sandwiches served in our venue meeting room (Beech). First class sandwiches, very freshly made, nice ingredients, well presented. Supplied with Starbucks cafe latte's.

Wonderful breakfast, cereals, fruit, cold meat/cheese, full cooked breakfast and "breakfast on the go"

Stayed here for a business awards event. The food at the dinner was great - although I chose the veggie option but didn't expect to be given a dairy and gluten free dessert which was soy panacotta - which was rather rubbery to say the least - Id have been happy with the standard cheesecake the other non veggie diners were given!

We had food in the bar it was delicious and a speedy service ensured it was hot when it arrived good food great service made it a place I will eat at again

Hotel is a great location for visiting the Newcastle area and with easy reach of Northumbria. On arrival check was very efficient and our room allocation was great. We had an issue with lights but this was quickly dealt with by the maintenance team. The bedrooms were well equipped with the usual tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, toiletries etc. The beds were comfortable but a little too soft which didn't do my back any favours. The dinning room staff were very young and the service would be improved by a little training e.g know what is on the menu and understand the different types of vegetarianisms. The food was well presented and good choice for most people. The wine costs however are a different matter, over priced for what you get. The bar staff seemed lost at times and we had to wait for our drinks although they had been poured whilst they served someone else. Bar menu is good but be aware that they add in a 12.5% service charge for food ordered in the bar. Took a little checking to find that it was discretionary. In my opinion it would be better to let guests make up their own mind about tipping!! As a result no tip was given. The staff tried to be helpful but felt that at times they were out of their depth. Breakfast on the whole was good but again on the first morning we had to ask for tea twice before it arrived. If they got the basics right it would move up from a good hotel to a great hotel.

Stayed overnight when attending Race course next door. Staff friendly , public areas spacious and comfortable. Room acceptable but dated. Bathrooms poor and in need of overhaul. Broken tiles and poor shower. Breakfast buffet ok but poor cold selection.Wouldn't recommend for a romantic weekend but convenient for racing.

We had another fantastic stay here at the Marriott GosPark. First time here for breakfast and dinner which was nice, I did feel like you paid for what you get. Great place and fantastic location. Bumped into one of the Geordie Shore team which was interesting to say the least. Only thing is we booked a balance booster for 2000 extra points and like a lot of Marriotts they never seem to be added on to the account. Will be staying again so soon.

I used to stay here a few years ago and it was nice to have the opportunity to return.The place was as pleasant as I remember it. Super helpful staff at reception and clean comfortable rooms in a good location a short taxi ride from the airport.My only criticism would be that at busy times the breakfast is a bit shambolic with all tables taken up several 4 place tables occupied by 1 person and the buffet with double some items (eggs) and run out of others (bacon). A minor point that would not stop me from returning

My colleague and I stayed on business recently. The Hotel is very appealing looking, with plenty of parking. Staff very friendly Bedrooms spacious, beds comfy and pillows are heaven. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed, as the hotel was quiet, so we ate in the bar, which was nice. I would definitely return to this hotel.

2 hours for food missed a couple of things off the order and the food wasn't even hot ! Really disappointed as I've been going to you for a long time this has now lost you a customer. Service and quality needs to be sorted

Met a group of friends for a charity event, the whole place was decorated lovely, the tables were spaced well apart which meant we weren't seated like sardines, the food was lovely, well presented & really hot, the service was faultless, only niggle were the soft drinks prices as I was driving, do think more could be done to encourage responsible driving, alcohol was cheaper, (common in most establishments though) other than that, great evening had by all.

A hotel that is a little tired and needs a may need a little updating certainly makes up for it with friendly staff and excellent service. Providing clean rooms, friendly atmosphere, made for a very pleasant over night stay with my family and friends. To entertain your kids there is a pool and a jacuzzi for the adults. Overall it is a very nice hotel and I would certainly recommend it and come back again.

We had an evening meal here one Saturday. The food was lovely and there was a good sized portion. The desserts were especially delicious - I had the pave and my partner had the sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream. The only downside to the meal was the fact that the football was playing on the bid screen at a high volume, which was completely at odds with the atmosphere in the bar. But would eat here again.

Admittedly we had stayed here once before but we were glad we returned as it was just as good as we remembered. From the reception desk to the bar breakfast restaurant and gym all the staff were very friendly knowledgeable and efficient. Our rooms was a good size immaculate and well appointed.The Hotel is situated about 2 minutes drive from the A1 but is quiet and provided with ample parking.It is easy to get from here to the City centre so if you prefer leaves and grass to City streets and concrete here's the place!For the walkers amongst you there is a nice walk along an old abandoned railway line to the Park itself...now a horse racing track.Marriott often do deals as well so it can be a very reasonable stay!

We had Canon of beef in Chat's bar on Sunday night which was on the Daily specials menu so you got a free drink(Pint of beer)with it. Then the T bone steak and Chilli Con Carne the next night all very tasty and excellent quality.Breakfast was also of a high standard with a wide variety to choose from all included in our D, B&b price.

An interesting menu though not inexpensive. A cosy restaurant with friendly staff, highly recommended.

There is so much wrong with this hotel. Firstly, don't let anyone kid you this hotel cannot in any way be considered convenient for Newcastle city centre.The biggest thing for us was the bed. it was unbelievably uncomfortable. They have utilised an old spring mattress and covered it with a duvet. It was the worst night sleep I have had in years. The shower was a dribble. The spa facilities were fairly reasonable. The changing rooms are a bit dated, the jacuzzi a bit on the cold side and the steam room out of order but other than that it was OK. The common areas are well decorated but the bedrooms need some tlc. If you want a cooked breakfast then the marriott caters well for you. If like us you are not keen on a cooked breakfast then your choices are very limited. Marriott would be better spending money on getting the basics right than the pretend lavish public rooms. There are far better hotels in and around Newcastle at far more competitive rates.We have stayed at a number of other marriotts across the country and this is by far the worst we have stayed at.Come on marriott pull your socks up!

It was a nice meal. Good garlic sauce

This was our third year at the Marriott Newcastle Christmas lunch.Staff organisation meant that after long gaps, three would come along at once. Two courses in, our guests' opinion was that there had been a definite improvement over 2015.It was downhill thereafter. Cold vegetables, lack of gravy and the job lot crackers meant that our and nearby tables all had duplicate toys. No big deal in isolation but in this case, another irritation.On leaving, the senior staff rolled with the polite observations and a week later I received an invitation to a complementary cream tea. It is sad how a hotel opened with such high standards in the mid-60's should lose its way so badly.We will make alternative arrangements next year. With a member of the 7 strong party being well into her 90's, the Marriott just will not do.

Food was cold as was on top of ovens and ready way too early

Margarita pizza wasnt nice and paid extra for stuffed crust with cheese ....stuffed crust was hollow all round pizza . No choice of chips with kebab just salad or no salad so chips were an extra cost . Just was poor value for the money .

I had the donner flame calzone, apart from the grease it was bone dry, not a calzone at all, just kebab meat, onions and spring onion(!?) wrapped in dry pizza base. It came 20 minutes late and was like warm

Disgusting freezing cold cooked better frozen pizzas myself and the kebab ha the dog wouldn't eat it don't waste your money

Had a problem with the restaurant, which just eat sorted out very quickly, will be very dubious to order from here again due to the problem tonite not the quality of food

Ordered just before closing and the food was delicious! Chilli sauce is one of the best I've had and the pizza was spot on 👌🏼 10/10 will be ordering from here again!

Arrived 50 mins late and was cold

1 quarterpound burger and 3 quaterpound cheeseburgers ordered, but only 3 HALFPOUND cheeseburgers delivered!!! Only 4 out of 4 wrong!

Ik had toch wel beter verwacht van een Marriott hotel. Beetje slecht onderhouden hotel met toch oubollig personeel. Vooral achter de receptie. Restaurant is ook niet iets wat ik zou aanraden. Ga lekker het centrum in in vind iets anders. Waarschijnlijk altijd beter dan hier. Nooit meer voor dat geld. One hotel is stukken beter qua prijs en zeker kwaliteit!

20 mins late. Feeble excuse as to why my mixed kebab only had chicken and doner...In other words you messed up the order and gave me a cheaper order with no refund on the difference. You messed up the only chance you had. Poor!

Recently attended a friend's wedding. The service was excellent, staff were very warm and friendly. The service and setting for the Wedding was perfect. The room for lunch was beautiful. Food was excellent and the sticky toffee desert was light as a feather and absolutely fab.

Quick delivery but food could have been a little hotter.

Stayed here this week for a wedding and I was pleasantly surprised by the rooms. Our room was spacious and spotless and the bed was really comfy. Asked if we could check in early and there was no issue with this and no extra charge. Breakfast was really nice the best morning, lots of choice and really tasty.

We stayed on a Sunday evening and the Restaurant was closed. We had two options open to us - room service or Chats Bar. The food was average and the service was very average. The tables are not conducive to eating a main course. The table we sat at was not clean and we asked the female team member to clean it. She tried to clean the table with a starched white napkin with water ??? I fully understand the restaurant being closed if it is not busy on a Sunday evening, but I would have expected a table conducive to dining. Breakfast was okay, we had to ask for fresh fried eggs to be cooked, as the eggs on the buffet were hard and un-appetising.

Great food terrible service.The order took almost two hours to arrive,really disappointed.

Very quick delivery even though somehow the pizza was far from hot and my kebab meat cold. And the delivery driver was adamant to get the 5p from me to make his change easier.

Quite far from city centre, website says 10 minutes but thats only if there is no traffic on the roads. 20-30 mins in a taxi.Lovely gardens outside. Room clean and fresh. Very small for 4 people for 4 nights and hardly any storage space for clothing.Beds very comfy and a good nights sleep for all.Visited the restaurant on the first night. We were seated in a large side room on our own away from the main dining room with no choice or reason. Food was disapointing for the price. My duck leg was covered in oil with gooey not crispy skin. There is a pub across the road that does much nicer food for a better price. Pool facility is lovely although the steam room was out of order. Spa was nice and staff were friendly.Overall a very good price for the hotel but would stay somewhere else if i was to visit again.

We have ordered from Gosforth Flame a few times now. The food is lovely and the service and delivery are always great. Very good value too. Recommend the deals.

Pizza was cold by the time it got here, nearly 30 mins after it was supposed to arrive. Asked for specific items to not be on pizza but they put them on anyway. Cans of pop were warm. All round let down.

I ordered cheese and tomato pizza but got a garlic pizza. I hate garlic.

The food came quickly which was good but pramo came with no sauce I picked that as an option because I thought it ment on the Salad everywhere else it always come with sauce anyways but it tasted fine except the cheesecake which was off n had to be thrown in the bin.

I was there as a conference delegate and the food service during the day, breakfast, coffee break and lunch, was imaginative, very tasty and healthy.The fruit crumble and more especially the custard served in an attractive pan, was sublime. They look after their events/conference bookings very well.

Food good, and lots of it. Would order again. 4 stars only because was kebabs and same meat everywhere u go, but definitely decent portions and would order again.

Don't be put off by the dated exterior. This hotel is lovely and airy inside with modern cosy clean decor in line with corporate Marriott style. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, from reception to restaurant to housekeeping. Lovely location by the racecourse and 2 golf clubs with great walks.

It came really fast but wasn't the best... Sorry but I wouldn't order from here again. That shawarma wasn't like any other I've ever had. And the chips were like rocks. Nice garlic sauce though!

Food arrived early and piping hot. Fresh and tasty. Only thing wrong was that we'd ordered too much again.

An added bonus that Sale Sharks Rugby Team was staying in the hotel at the same time so for a rugby family this was definately an added bonus. Lovely public areas and leisure facilities for all to use. We did not eat at the restaurant apart from breakfast which was great.

Absolutely lovely! No complaints at all. Was delivered in around 45 minutes. Garlic & chilli sauce is really nice. Little bit pricey but really good special offers.

We orderd a set meal of 2 pizza's, garlic bread,dips and drink. Although our order arrived with one of the pizza not what we ordered we still enjoyed them. We didn't enjoy the garlic bread as much as it was very dry and would have preferred a cheese garlic bread as part of the set meal. We love the Base on the pizzas as it is super thin and crispy just how we like it. We will order from here again, just not the set meal.

The staff was very professional and friendly, we got booked in quickly. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good but more variety is required. Overall enjoyed the stay.

We stayed at this Marriott on Saturday evening 20th August 2016. When we enquired about our booking on the Friday evening with a view to an early check in as we were going to a wedding nearby we were originally told there was not a booking for us. However the wedding planner sorted that out within minutes. We were given an early check in on the Saturday and our room was on the 1st Floor. Ok the hotel has been established for ages now but the corridors are looking a little tired and in need of a repaint and re-carpeting. But it was for only 1 night so not really bothered. However our room had a giant radiator which must have been on a timer as the thing was really really hot to the point of unable to touch and unable to turn off or alter so the air conditioning was on just to try and keep the room at a reasonable temperature. On the morning the hairdryer did not work and a replacement was proved which was a much newer model and worked fine..The bathroom door did not close properly which for some people might be a problem. The breakfast was fine and good quality but to have to wait for 10 minutes for orange juice to be refilled in a 4 star hotel is not acceptable. Its okay for the odd night but I don't think I would want to stay there for much longer.

We order from here about once a fortnight, quality is always good but recently it has improved to excellent. Not the cheapest place but we'll worth it for the quality!

Order was 40 minutes late. I checked Just Eat website and said it had been delivered but when I called it had apparently 'just left' . One part of meal was hot and fresh but all others were tepid. Not much halloumi in my wrap either. Very disappointed this time and won't be ordering again.

Food was lovely however the order was wrong and we were missing food and some of it was also cold.

we were invited here to celebrate our Aunts Golden wedding. The food was amazing and plentiful, the roast beef dinner was superb. The staff were so helpful and very courteous.

Love the calzone but the salad was very expensive for what was there... Could of had a kebab along side it for less of the money

I've used here for years now, the food has always been good, yet now they seem to be slipping, I've had the odd mistake recently, nowt to complain about mind, however tonight was poor, I ordered a shwarma special at 16 quid, don't bother, you'd be better of getting a mixed standard kebab and a garlic bread and saving a fiver, What turned up was a pile of over cooked lamb, chicken and onions on a greasy, thick, garlic bread, no salad as you'd expect, the garlic sauce wasn't thick like normal, it poured out of the tub like water, it had quite clearly been thinned down, the chips were Luke warm and soggy, fit for the bin on opening, the good reputation they have will soon disappear if they keep churning out food like this. I'll always accept small mistakes, but tonight's food was poor at best, close to awful, not as good as it used to be.
