Newcastle International Airport (NCL) in Newcastle upon Tyne

Overall, a fairly manageable airport. However, I find the “forced passage” through the duty-free area very unnecessary. After that there is a lot of commercial space until at some point you have to walk “downstairs” to all the gates. By the way, there is a lounge there that wasn't signposted anywhere else. The gate information was given 30 minutes before flight departure, which can be perceived as very tight. When you arrive, you should not change euros at the airport. Do this in the city center to save costs or get a better rate. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the metro had a defect and was therefore unusable. We then had to take the bus to the city center. We only found out about the unsigned stop from an employee on site.

Decent airport for it's size. Parking is expensive.

My bag was delayed and put on the flight after mine. But for some reason Newcastle Airport has taken forever to do anything. The bag has been with them for 4+ hours and they have all the details to deliver, but can’t get hold of anyone to get an update. Their international flights aren’t that busy. Makes for a lousy start for a holiday in Newcastle

Very modern. You don't have to take off your shoes to catch the plane.

Easy to park, plenty of spaces, reasonable parking charge for an airport.

I'm sorry, staff and everyone I encountered were wonderful, however, charging someone £22 to park for little over an hour is just ridiculous. £22 An HOUR! We were delayed as baggage issues were reported. Time was spent making sure our bags were not there. £22...

What a brilliant airport. After the nightmare that Manchester has become in recent years, Newcastle is a refreshing reminder of how airports should be. Everything is convenient (admittedly there aren't the size constraints that Manchester has), car drop-off is easy, access to the city is simple, the staff are friendly and helpful, and there's still a lounge which turned out to be one of the best I've ever visited. I'll use this airport again, it's even worth doing a bit of extra driving if you're choosing between here and Manchester.

Lovely little airport without the big queues that you get at a lot of other airports. Free parking for 15 mins if you use short stay 2.

Pre booked for week £82, On leaving would not accept my ticket, could not leave until l paid extra £290. Contacted parking office next day who said when l arrived the number plate recognition had read my reg wrong so did not recognise my booking. £290 refunded but not a good experience at almost 10pm in wind,rain and dark.

Easy to navigate. Good-sized duty free. Friendly staff. Easy to get straight onto the Metro from within the airport.

Clean ,tidy , plenty security staff. Time of within by 01/10/24 all liquids are to be in containers no more than 100ml. Leave all liquids in your cabin bags handbags etc Also leave all electrical equipment in bags . Leave your shoes on too. So much easier now and faster .

Taxi system needs refining especially on wet days. Over complicated.

Airport itself is fine . But the luggage return is poor,slow. Lounge is fine.

This airport has had a lot of investment and reorganisation over the past few years and the improvements show. There is now an acceptable amount of seating in the departures waiting area, the security was thorough, up to date technology helps the flow of identity and security checks, and the shabby areas have been dealt with. I've taken off a star because it's so expensive to do a quick drop off/pick up unless you know how to get round to the short stay car park and are alert enough to see which of the gates is the short stay one. (It's an expensive mistake if you drive to the wrong barrier after taking the left turn). It also took quite a while to check in to the BA flight to the USA, partly because of people having problems with their luggage weight - why do airports not provide weighing machines for free at the entrance, to help speed up check-ins?

It is a nice airport, with everything you need. The only complaint I have is the parking charges to drop off or free short stay are nothing but a money grab. Even the metro is more expensive to go one more zone {and the airport is the only station in that zone). So £4 to be dropped off at the front or £8 if over 15 mins. What service did I get for that? The privilege of driving through APR cameras? Profiteering...

The service at this airport is very efficient compared to other airports I have been to in Great Britain. I must not fail to notice that the parking lot where I left my car for a week was not cleared of leaves and it was slippery there when we returned from vacation. I'm taking away four stars! I must also note that when walking with a heavy suitcase on wheels at three in the morning, it is impossible to avoid the puddles, which are huge. Very poor infrastructure compared to foreign... In the UK no one cares about quality. All you have to do is go abroad to see that people in the UK are lazy and, even though they are better paid than elsewhere, they do their job worse than you can imagine. Poor and shameful!

Terrible! I flew out of Newcastle earlier in the week and saw a post saying they won ‘Airport of the Year’ for 2nd consecutive year.. I was on a flight from Amsterdam - Newcastle at 10pm yesterday. There was a slight delay (30 mins) because they had to de-ice the plane after snow. Everyone was sat in the plane ready for take off which the pilot said should be in 15 minutes. He came back less than 5 minutes later saying Newcastle Airport said they’re closing and the flight has to be cancelled. There was approx 200 passengers in the flight which were all left stranded. Bear in mind the flight time was only 45 minutes. I understand that the airport has to take care of the staff. What about the 200 odd passengers that were left scrambling to find hotels and alternative passage (none) and can’t get home to their families?!?! I had friends flying to Leeds and Manchester the same night and they all got home safely. SHAME. Doesn’t deserve the Airport of the Year award in my books. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Efficient airport, fast security. A pleasant start to travels. Just make sure you get picked up / dropped off at the (15 minute) free drop-off at the Short Stay 2 car park

Arrivals. Very few flights in. For a change Border force had officers at passport check desks. For an international airport there are only 5 old electronic passport machines and one was not working as usual. They seriously need to have more machines I'm sure the name is Newcastle International Airport that suggests great service on arrival not just in departures.

The staff are all really friendly and it is spotlessly clean. The Metro is connected to the airport building. Car parking drop off and short stay is overpriced. The Airport taxis are run as a monopoly and prices reflect that. The airport is a cash generating machine for the local authorities. Security can be fast and efficient. In other words the passenger facing side is great but there’s too much emphasis on depriving you of your money at every available opportunity. Many arrivals and departures involve walking across the tarmac.

Decent airport but be careful if just picking someone up the dropoff at the front is a fortune , head to Short Stay 2 where you get 15 minutes free, stay in the left lane when entering the airport and head for the long stay parks , the short stay 2 turning is just before the barriers to the long stay , you need to slip off to the right into the car park

Good airport easy to get to by metro and a nice duty free passport control so much quicker than it used to be

I got to Newcastle airport at 5.45pm on Tuesday. Most of the retail outlets and restaurants airside were already closed. I thought that was quite early considering there were still 6 flights departing that evening. The bar, Boots, WHSmith and duty free were still open. Lots of seating areas were closed off while they were cleaning the floor. I would have thought they could do that at night. Anyway, at least security and boarding were very quick.

With the new scanners their is very little delay going through customs. Making journeys more pleasent.

It's a great airport but marked a point down for charging £2 to pick someone up. It should be part of the flight package. My daughter has 4 children all under 7, so its not straightforward to get them safely seated without some barrier blocking your way while you fumble through for cash!! Holiday paid Seats paid Food on board paid More than 10kg paid £40 both ways Pay to get out of the barrier Ermmmm, cheap holiday Easy Jet charged my daughter £50 extra as her bag was slightly over, but she still had to put it above. Jet2 is much more accommodating. I always try my best to book the latter, but in her case, it has no option to Bristol from Newcastle

Quiet airport, very quickly through immigration, bag reclaim and customs, parking close to terminal and transport to/from regular a bit pricey though. Would use airport again.

I love planes and I go plane spotting because it’s my local and the airport it’s small but mighty people are nice the service was good and it feels like home.

Passport control is very slow not enough scanners try looking at Palma airport for a few tips!! Or even alicante which is much faster

A great wee modern airport with no long security queues and quick baggage reclaim. The only downside is the parking fees.

I'm going to give Newcastle International Airport 1 star due to what I witnessed when I was there . An Autistic father and his Autistic son were there to watch some planes take off and land at the airport . I would have thought that someone would have told the father that they could have gone somewhere to watch the planes , even if there was a waiting area to do that . No , the father was told by an employee of the airport that he needed a boarding pass just to go watch the planes . Now , I'm all for keeping everyone safe , but when the father told the employee of the airport that both himself and his son have Autism , you would think that the employee would have had someone to take the father and son somewhere inside of the airport so they could watch some planes . I felt so sorry for the little boy and his father because they went outside to see if they could see any planes , only to get caught in the rain and they seemed sad because of the rain and they didn't even get to see any planes . I'm sure that Newcastle International Airport should have a place for people with special needs to go to in order to watch some planes . Create an area for special needs people to watch planes land and take off . I hope that you will take this into consideration and allow special needs families to watch the planes . Nothing has changed .

Modern, clean, nice service. Very bussy. The number of seats available for facilities is limited to such a state that the capacity of one aircraft is greater than the total number of them. This is a form of forcing you to shop so that you can sit down.

Go to airport, have had a few bad experiences on my end but the staff were helpful with this :) great airport. Just a bit pricey for certain things but can't really escape it.

Our flight from Malta today - 17 October 2024 - was delayed landing due to the airport being shut as they have a shortage of air traffic controllers. After eventually landing the wait to get through passport control was a joke. Malta International Airport puts Newcastle to shame. I was embarrassed to be in the queue with people from other countries seeing such a debacle. Disgraceful

Sitting here in Tap and Brew. A friendly face, Ryan making sure the bar area is kept clean and tidy. Never stopped whilst we were there. Happy holidays.

Discrimination is my fetish 💦💦💦

I recently flew out of Newcastle Airport and overall it was a pretty mixed experience. One thing I really appreciated was the fact that there were two smoking areas, something you don't often find in airports these days. If you're a smoker, it definitely makes things a bit more comfortable while you're waiting. The duty-free section is small but decent - just enough variety to pick up a few last-minute items without feeling overwhelmed by the choice. The airport is also fairly easy to navigate, which is always a bonus, especially if you're in a hurry to catch your flight. Having said that, the airport itself is quite small, which became more apparent when I had some extra time to kill before my flight. There aren't many places to sit or relax for long, and the food and drink options are pretty limited. If you're looking for a proper meal or a variety of cafes to choose from, you might be disappointed. I found it a little cramped and struggled to find a comfortable place to settle down. Overall, it's fine for a short, straightforward trip, but if you've got a long layover or like to explore the airport facilities, it might feel a little lacking.

SPECIAL ASSISTANCE GUESTS PLEASE READ BELOW!!! Mind. Let's just say special assistance at Newcastle I would avoid. I mean check in at beginning yes. This is very useful for assisting you through the queues. Getting on the plane via Gate. He asked if we had it we said no. BUT!!! He says don't worry I will sort it please go in zone 3 we will call you to get on.. NNNOOOOO!! They nearly left without us the pilot shut the flight, the check clerk (clueless unfortunately as to what he was), 🤨😠 forgot about us!!! We only knew when our friends on the plane said where r u the plane is shut down!! We are about to leave the pilot is not waiting you have been called twice And even funnier. He says when i went over to him at 6.00.15am i said look our flight is 6am?? When will we be going on... he says... Ooo yeah. U need to run!!! What a utter 😡😡 xx Imagine being in a wheelchair asking us to run!! As the tui staff said sorry to us it was the clerks fault etc. It gave a crap feeling as to holding everyone up so we could board. Sooo moral of this story is. You have to book special assistance AT THE TIME OF BOOKING!!! And ask for it in one way and not other.. I haven't flown for years. And our friend booked the holiday. So yes we didn't know about these things. But maybe the clerk should have said no u don't have it so your not getting it. That would have been more liable than just telling us he would put on the childs card and sit in zone 3

Very nice and clean place but very expensive to buy anything

Nice airport, very well developed with many shops (WHSmith, Boots), cafes and restaurants with charging stations (English sockets or USB) after border control. Due to new scanners, laptops do not need to be scanned separately. Cheese was affected, but it was ok. ATM for cash and lots of toilets and well posted.

They make out like they’re the best in the world, but while you’re stood in a mile long security queue because they’ve decided to fly several planes at the same time it feels very disorganised & chaotic.

It's quite good, but when returning, it is confusing as to what queue you should be in. One lane has border control, and the other is e-passports.

Flight on time, parking excellent. Facilities improved, expanded and superb. Star of the day was Jess in Duty Free alcohol sales who helped me at the checkout terminal and pointed out I could get 5% off by downloading the Red by Dufry app👌🏻I won’t fly from anywhere else. Ding dong 🤜🏻

Friendly with decent shops and restaurants even if they are overpriced.

Managed to get two sit-downs for coffees, compared to Heathrow and JFK. This was fab for the tiredness on the plane back from NY.

This was once a great Airport its now a shadow of its former self. Parking absolute joke ref prices. I flew out to USA and was on the BA Redeye Shuttle down to LHR the MUSIC at 04:30 in morning was unbearable blaring out like a RAVE disgusting tables not clean windows absolute joke totally filthy whole place was just a bad experience. Not a calm Terminal at all. I only use it as its local to me. Its Longhaul flights are also very limited needs a direct JFK flight year round like EDI has.

In our opinion it's an expensive airport to park in for what it offers. Very few flights fly from here now because of the cost for planes to use it. And for us the poor humans to park there. Sometimes it's seems like pure bedlam inside when the gates open BUT it all work out ok.the shops and food areas once past the customers is very good and lots of places for drinks or snacks or just to shop in the duty free.its let down badly because of lack of different destinations to fly too not like in the past...we have to travel to Liverpool if we want to fly to the south of France. or to Edinburgh or Glasgow airport. Again like most places it's down to greed. Even the car park IF you are lucky will only cost you a £100 a week to park there..and even then you could be parked at the far end of the car park 30 minutes pushing a suite case in the rain or snow... It's not the staffs fault it the people they work for...

I have traveled through this airport a few times. Nice and clean. Parking charges are high. Approximately £14 an hour. Clean toilets and there is a coffee shop and few restaurants after a security check. It is very close to city 🏙️. Plenty of parking 🅿️ space.

Probably the best airport in the UK. I’ve flown from most Uk airports and every time I go from Newcastle there’s no queues, good services and clean. No delays on flights and staff are actually helpful. 5/5 airport.

Fast check-in. The only downfall is the length of the zig zagg that you have to do for passport control. Could do with more staff on passport control

We dropped our son at the airport at Short stay 1 ;allowed 15 minutes at cost of £7. The bonus I guess is close to the terminals.

Very nice airport for its size. There are many opportunities to shop, both in the departure hall, on the way to the gates and even at gate 3 there was a vending machine with soft drinks and sweets. Plenty of seating in the departure hall. Burgerking, Star Bucks etc. Lots of toilets which are clean and nice. It is nicer and cleaner than many other airports. Security is also fast, new machines and scanners make everything run smoothly and safely. Service minded staff.

Compared to Edinburgh a very relaxed place to fly from. Friendly staff. Deducting 1 star as whilst we were on flight ready to go to Crete on time, ATC decided to shut the airport for 30 minutes so they could all have a rest. We were therefore delayed. Very weird.

A nice airport that offers international service. It also has two Aspire lounges. The airport is small enough that it is easy to navigate. By the way, Newcastle itself is a great place to visit!

extremely easy to find, hotel is across the road from hotel
