New Shoots in North East Derbyshire

Congratulations to New Shoots cafe for not allowing dogs inside. I visit regularly with friends and grandchildren and that is largely because the staff are friendly, the food is good and there are no dogs. We are running out of eating places that don't welcome dogs. I have nothing against them other than that I don't want them around my food. I don't think it's hygienic. Please don't change your policy - the popularity of this venue would be compromised if animals are allowed inside. Thank you to the staff for their friendliness and efficiency.

This is a lovely, spacious restaurant. Staff are efficient and helpful. I go most weeks, and always have an excellent meal. One of the reasons I particularly like it, is that no dogs are allowed in the restaurant. There is an outside area where you can sit with your dog if required. It is nice to be able to eat without dogs barking, or being worried about tripping over a dog or its lead., or the hygiene issue of dogs being around food. Well done to this restaurant!

I can’t say enough good things about this coffee shop! We’ve been coming for years, often bringing small children, and we can’t recommend it enough. The food is always tasty and to the exact same, good standard - never had a meal that wasn’t up to scratch. Lots of choice too, even for small children.I’ve seen it mentioned on a couple of other reviews about the coffee and it honestly is the best coffee I’ve had and I’m a huge coffee lover. The staff are all welcoming and friendly, we really like that you order and sit to wait for your drinks/food as it keeps the queue down and allows you to get seated and settled. There’s lots of tables but spaced far enough apart that you don’t feel like you’re seated with others and I really have to mention how spotless it is. More recently, I’ve noticed in almost all other coffee shops/cafe’s how unclean they appear whether that’s the tables, floor, cutlery or sometimes all 3…not here, it’s so clean whatever time of day they turn up. All the staff really deserve a well done, it’s a busy coffee shop so I imagine my review represents the same of many others.

Sunday 14th of January 2024.. We had Sunday lunch, it's was very very good the plate was absolutely full , potatoes, carrots, parsnips, leeks, peas, onions, chefs special stuffing with sprouts think a cheese And a large Yorkshire pudding and a chicken breast was excellent 👌 complaints to the chef. It was so large the meal we couldn't eat it all, best thing don't have breakfast leave plenty room lol. Really worth every penny honestly it was. Just a small suggestion if possible any way you could do a smaller portion for o.a.p. when you get holder you don't eat as much. We always find the food very very good, Christmas Dinner was excellent as well. Keep up the good work chef and staff all off you thank you. From Doreen & Paul cheers all.

New Leaf Garden Centre used to be unusual in being a very good garden centre but not having a café …… until New Shoots was born. The café is housed in a good sized building that is spacious at ground level and has the additional benefits of a high roof. Despite having visited the garden centre many times, we only recently made our first visit to the café. First impressions are generally positive but it does need to sort out its signage …… outside the café entrances/exits and within the café itself. We entered via the large sliding doors and found a table …….. which did not have a menu …….. it only became clear to us on leaving that there is an expectation that customers will enter via the other entrance/exit. The menus are clear and easy to read, just like the table numbers. However, the layout for queueing to order is not. We ordered sandwich and chips ……….. both were OK with nothing to complain about, but equally nothing special to get excited about. The tables were clean, as was the cutlery presented in a rolled up Christmas decorated napkin. The staff were OK but it clearly operates as a café/drinks rather than as a restaurant. The overall atmosphere was pleasant, and the lack of house music was a major plus for us. If the circumstances that prompted our first visit repeat themselves then we will have no qualms about revisiting the café.

We go regularly due to the excellent coffee and good food. Excellent choice on the menu, quick friendly service, this place follows a winning formula. Like I say, if you appreciate good coffee give it a try, so difficult to find places that serve good coffee.

The coffee here is excellent. We come here on a weekly basis and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Prices are on a par with other local establishments, but coffee is exceptional.

2 slices toast three coffees 1 sandwich £18+ bit pricey for what it is. Place clean& tidy but prices put me off going

We have been several times to New Shoots and each time delicious freshly cooked food has been well presented and served with a smile by one of the waiters/waitresses. Had bacon butty, sandwiches but my favourite is quiche with salad and coleslaw. It is always very clean and a happy atmosphere awaits you. Cannot fault it.

We love our weekly visits to New Shoots. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, always willing to help. They are always quick to clear tables and leave them clean for the next customer. The food is always hot and well presented, with a good choice. Would recommend a visit to anyone.

Such a delight to have such a wonderful drink of tea! I only drink tea and this is the best tea in miles. Tea leaves in a cafetiere which gives a lovely flavour and fills more than one cup! Delicious selection of cakes too!

The signs outside direct dogs and their owners to the inside entrance, On entering I was told dogs were only allowed outside! So why make dog owners walk inside? As a single person with a dog I was told no-one could take my order outside, meaning I’d have to leave my dog alone - which I’m not prepared to do. When I tried to explain the ridiculous situation, I was told they’re 'rammed every day' so they obviously don’t need my custom. Don’t worry - I’ll continue using the extremely friendly and dog-friendly cafe next door.

I've been coming here a while. The staff are really friendly. However to find a basic bacon sandwich is now £5.45 is just ridiculous. The ketchup they have changed to is disgusting. I wouldn't have one again from here.

We booked for Christmas lunch and arrived to be quickly directed to our named already set up table. We had to pay the balance of our meal before being served but were more than happy to do this. We split the bill 2 ways and the prepaid deposit could only be taken off of 1 bill but this was no problem. All our meal was served very hot on heated plates and all 3 courses were delicious. We were served promptly but not rushed from one course to another even though it was very busy. The hard working staff were very pleasant yet had time for a quick friendly word and asked if everything was alright at the end of each course. We have only previously had drinks there before but will certainly eat there again and can highly recommend it.

We are so pleased that not only can we shop in our favourite garden centre but can also get a drink and snack at the new cafe that has opened. Great place with a good menu. Lovely scones and teacakes.All the food looks nice, fresh...

Came for lunch while visiting the garden centre and was really impressed! When you arrive you are seated by a member of staff which I think works well as it means large tables aren’t taken up by small parties. Food and drinks arrived really quickly...
