An empty pub has little atmosphere. The meal was disappointing. My wife's fish was tasteless and dry. The batter was good though. The garden peas were overcooked. Chips were delicious but far too many. Not a great celebration of our 54th wedding anniversary!

Bought a boat from Whilton Marina, and passed the pub en route. Decided to stop for one drink and ended up staying a few hours and having food. They had a really good selection of drinks and the lady who served us was amazing. She was really friendly and after a few drinks remembered exactly how we wanted our drinks to be served (ice/no ice/mixer to the top etc) We then decided to order food. They let us order before the kitchen opened so that out food would be cooked straight away. It was generous portions and fresh food for the price. I would definitely come back.

We have discovered how relaxing it is to complete a long journey but stop one hour before our destination for a rewarding break. We did that today for a traditional Sunday lunch. Typical fare of full roast. We both had pork. OAPs can order special modest portions.

Tried this pub for dinner after a family member bumped into someone when waking along the canal who recommended the food. Although the menu looked basic the food was delicious and portions were extremely generous. The fish and chips was absolutely lovely! Ham and eggs and hunters chicken also lovely. Staff were friendly and also interacted nice with other guests who were clearly regulars. The décor is traditional and decorated with lots of items and displays. Lighting is dim and this makes it feel very cosy. One area of improvement: I was sat in the room opposite the bar (road side), with my seat directly next to the display cabinet which was lit up with a jug in it. This cabinet was actually full of spiders webs and spiders, so it felt like I was sat next to a zoo attraction and wondering if I was about to have a spider crawl out. If you have the cabinet and display lit up, it would be nice to keep this looking tidy and free of cob-webs/insects

I hadn't been to the new Inn for quite a few years, but will be back soon for sure! Friendly attentive staff who bent over backwards to make it a great experience and really well cooked food using top quality ingredients. When we arrived the beer garden was full, so we plumped for a table indoors. At the bar we were asked inside or out? I said we'd love outside but it's full and ordered using our inside table number. Shortly after I'd done so, one of the staff came to our table to say she'd just been out and there was now a table free. She moved us and changed our table number on the order with no fuss. The food arrived quickly, and was perfect. My scampi was large wholetails, and plenty of them. Would recommend it to anyone.

I have visited the New Inn for some years as a result of how poor it used to be. Today I was returning from Northampton and fancied something to eat. I stopped at the New Inn and was soon struck by how friendly and pleasant the staff were. Add to that an excellent selection of real ales and I felt very comfortable. It was only about 4.30 but they were doing food. The menu is full of classic pub dishes plus some excellent winter specials and the prices are all reasonable.. I chose the ham egg and chips. It was very soon delivered to the table and I was very impressed with the food. I know it is a simple dish but everything was excellent. The waitress service was very polite and efficient. The atmosphere of the pub was busy and pleasant to sit in so I stayed for a coffee and watched other dishes being served. We saw several other groups of people come and go and got there food before us. When we asked the establishment why it taken so long and we got vague unhelpful answers. They didn’t care about service. When the food finally arrived, one person cancelled their order as it took so long, another paid extra for crispy bacon which came out uncooked and told my friend what they wanted us to do about the bacon. First visit here and quite surprised to see car park almost full. Warm welcome, find your own table. Looked at menu , varied choice with great prices. Ordered fish choice of peas or salad as accompaniment. Well no wonder the car park was full surpassed only by the "fullness" of the plate when quickly brought out if kitchen by pleasant staff. This place is a gem the food excellent at very reasonable prices. Will call again. Seats outside by canal if the weather had been kinder may have tried them but inside comfortable enough.

Stopped here for lunch on Good Friday A sunny day and busy, as you’d expect on a Bank Holiday However, short staffed and obviously tired barman was rude No excuse for that! Needless to say we didn’t stop!

We are first timers canal boating but that aside stopped to eat with our family including 2 children. Arrived in the pub at 8.35pm and they stopped serving at 8.30pm. We managed to order a takeaway for delivery but they were very keen to close the pub at 9.30 we were rushed out. Bar maid appeared to be very insincere and didn’t appear to care. Will not visit on return and would not recommend.

This place was shut for a few years. Stopped in our boat and had a great meal. Good beer and drinks selection. Great menu including for vegetarians which is important for us. Reasonable prices and huge portions and all piping hot.

Good food with friendly staff worked to the bone due to poor staffing ratios. Massive waits at the bar to be served spoilt the night. We were told the owners no longer work weekends omg

Just went for an evening meal not expecting too much, my meal steak pie, chips and peas for the price was good value but my wifes meal was awful. The quality of the faggots (if they were faggots?) was terrible, I questioned the landlady as to whether there was any meat in them and she admitted they were bought in (cheap, very, very cheap) I questioned whether they were stuffing balls as that is exactly what they tasted like, the landlady said they were faggots. I have never written a review before as I haven't felt the necessity, needless to say in balance my meal was good my wifes was awful don't buy the faggots.

My Wife worked here 20+ years ago and sadly we had never eaten here since. We had heard good reports about it so decided to use it for my step daughters birthday meal. We were not disappointed, nothing was too much trouble they put out supplied table decorations and banners (done to embarrass her). Every member of staff was attentive, polite and extremely helpful, even apologising for the noise from a skittle match before the games started (we never noticed the noise) plus all the food was excellent. They obliged my wife, who was a bit off colour, with a jacket potato from the lunchtime menu, my step daughter wanted a Gammon sadly they had run out so a steak was ordered. She is a bit "funny" about how her steak is cooked but they got it to perfection even coming out of the kitchen to check is was cooked to her liking. the chips were nice chunky ones and were to die for, the salad was excellent everything so crisp and fresh in fact all 5 meals were perfection we could find nothing, absolutely nothing, that wasn't perfection. What made the evening even better was when her cake was bought out all the skittles players joined in a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday. A great night out with great food, great staff and a nice relaxing atmosphere. Thank you to everyone (including the skittle teams) for making her Birthday a bit special. Living local we will be back, Sunday lunch is next on the list to try.

Great pub and super friendly staff. 5 old mates(and CAMRA members) on a narrow boat trip last here 5 years ago. what a change! We had a lively evening with some hilarious banter with barperson/waitress Sianne. Steak and red wine meal deals good value and a pleasure to find a pub that didnt serve the dreaded Doombar. In Siannes words 'no self respecting pub should have Doombar'. Thoroughly recommended
