New Inn in Milton Keynes

I visited last week with my family and had a lovely meal, the staff went above and beyond for us. Lovely outdoor setting looking over the canal, very impressed will definitely be back: thank you

This was an excellent friendly pub with fantastic home cooking but now with new owners the limited menu of very basic items is a total disappointment. Ignore a lot of the menu photos on the internet as none of it exists anymore.

Started off with a couple of drinks. The bar staff were decent enough.. BUTA made the regrettably horrendous decision to eat.... Honestly better food is served in prison. The roast dinner is up there with one of the worst things I've ever put near my child and she's been to Blackpool. It's such a shame as the location and building is great. I gave it one star only because I couldn't go lower. It was empty, on a bank holiday..... I WONDER WHY???? 😜

After attempting to buy drinks at the bar were told that we could only order from a table. So found a couple of tables outside. Were then told (after a large drinks order had been paid) that the garden area was closed and we'd have to move onto the patio. There were no signs to say it was closed and the reason we'd chosen to stop there was so the children could play on the grass. Staff were extremely rude and abrupt and offered no reason as to why the garden was closed. Once moved, staff proceeded to (very vocally) check we all had drinks. Very intimidating and downright rude. We were a family group of 11 and none of us will return.

Visited this pub a good while back, the food was very good with a much larger menu then. I think however its changed hands.. The food was very average. With the all day Breakfast, the mushrooms were dried out, we didn't eat them, The sausages were the same. The lasagne was nice, but the salad was literally a pile of mixed lettuce leaves with a drizzle of dressing and soggy Garlic Bread, It was quite disappointing. And, of the Small menu we were given, some of the options weren't available. There were only three couples in the restaurant.. Its still took 45 minutes for our food to arrive.

Passing through on the canal we decided to stop here for dinner on a Thursday. Food was good honest pub grub, well cooked, fresh and excellent value. Staff were friendly and welcoming and offered either the bar or restaurant to dine in. Thank goodness we chose the restaurant as the locals vocabulary in the bar area was limited to the f word. Don’t mind a bit of banter with the odd expletive but this was constant. So I wouldn’t bring either your children or elderly relatives here for a family meal!

After a early morning ride with our local scooter club we arranged to stop at the New Inn for breafast. Fantastic service lots of enjoyable banter with the staff. Sterling service and a hearty freshly cooked breakfast with as much tea or coffee you want to wash it all down. Very tasty breakfast that left me bursting at the seams all at a very fair price. This is the second time I have called in for breakfast with the scooter club and we were far from disappointed and would definitely be coming back again. Thank you guys for a fabulous breakfast experience, see you again very soon.

We have been visiting every month for a sunday evening meal however this week was pestered by a couple of regular drinkers who were utter pests. Ruined our evening so wont be going back .

Having eaten here before and also a recommendation from my daughter who lives nearby expected great things? Notice management had changed but had been praised. Of 3 meals ordered 2 were poorly cooked and other almost inedible! Scampi, chips not cooked fully and peas cold, Curry rice dry and curry bland. Sausages watery and very poor quality, batter it was served in stale and doughy. "40% discount for Weds, Thurs, Fri was the offer" but even though I queried if it had been taken it was clearly not. I did not want a stand up row in the pub so let it go. Meal price should have been around £20 but charged £30.55p WILL NOT BE RETURNING!

We held a friend's wake here last week. The landlady Michaela could not have been more helpful and sympathetic in helping us arrange things as we wanted. She went out of her way to make sure that everything was right to make people feel welcome and give Ray a good send off. It meant a lot. The New Inn is a canal side pub with a fair sized car park and plenty of outside seating front and back. They serve good meals, allow well behaved dogs, have tvs in both bars which do not dominate, the beer is good, the staff are friendly and attentive, the locals friendly and the toilets are clean. How lucky am I to have the New Inn as my local? I can see myself already becoming a regular.

Had an appointment in Milton Keynes so wanted to find a dog friendly pub to eat at. This looked ideal on the Internet but the reality was better. Greeted by a friendly staff member, and shown to a table, nothing was too much trouble. Food arrived quickly but not so quick as to come from a microwave. Two drinks, a gammon and a chicken and leek pie came to £25 and the quantity and quality was excellent. Only complaint was it wasn't warm enough to sit in their spacious garden overlooking the canal. We will return another day and enjoy a quality meal for a reasonable price in.a friendly country pub. Hunt it out, you'll find it's worth it. We are glad we did

We booked this restaurant at short notice and we’re very happy with our choice. We were a large party so they found us a table in a separate area. The meals were good, very tasty and served with a smile. We would recommend this place to friends and would return if visiting the area again.

A great lunch at the New Inn today. Perfect for our family get together. My liver and onions were fabulous - just needed a hunk of bread for that lovely gravy! My brothers’ steaks were perfectly cooked as well. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. We will certainly be back

We had a family meal here last night and were very impressed with both the service and quality of the food. As a family we tend to share, so we ordered 3 different meals and, all 3 were freshly prepared and were very tasty.

We went there for a family birthday meal. Very impressed with the food and very attentive service which I liked as it showed they cared I was enjoying the food. Was able to call ahead and reserve a table. Also can sit outside by the canal if wanted. Service was also very quick and smooth.

Pretty much standard pub menu. Lower prices, very noisy, average quality food served extremely hot. Order at the bar. Needed some guidance for making hot chocolate.

Stopped for dinner and had a good honest steak and chips for a good price. The rest of the group enjoyed their meals too. Friendly staff too, so came back for breakfast, which was also good pub food with friendly service.

Stopped here for the night. The food and drinks were good. Would recommend it. Prices very cheep compared to some of the pubs we stopped off for the night. All day breakfast staring at 10. If you are a boater looking. There is a CO-OP just down the road.

The New Inn is an exceptionally good pub/restaurant because they cater for people with different diets. My Father is on a low fat diet, I am on a low fat diet plus a gluten free diet. The food was excellent and a good sized portion was served. The only thing is there is no disabled access. However, there are only 4 steps in and a handle rail each side. So, if you have a bit of a mobility problem do not let it hold you back.

We ended up at The New Inn totally by accident as our canal boat needed attention and we needed to contact the marina. We walked up from the canal, ordered drinks, and asked to use a phone. The lady behind the bar was nice enough to make the call for us and be the go-between as calls went back and forth. After the boat was fixed, we decided to go back up for an early dinner. Had a great steak with peppercorn sauce. I understand by talking to a local gentleman on the canal, they have great breakfast as well. On our return trip down the canal we stopped back in for drinks. The staff are very friendly and hospitable. We enjoyed our time there.

Whilst cruising along the Grand Union on our narrowboat, we decided to stop here for an evening meal. The staff were very friendly and the food was so good, we ate there on our journey back. Generous portions of good home cooking at very reasonable prices. We will definitely return.

Went here yesterday , very impressed with the high standard of service and cleanliness although we did not have a meal , the menu is very good especially the breakfast we shall return very soon the location is perfect for families good seating on the canal side watching the boats . Besides the broken chair I nearly had the misfortune to sit on and the wet paint on the garden furniture, which didn't have a wet paint sign, that I did sit on! The steak and kidney pie was a joke. All they had done, was boil the meat in water, no onions or veg no tomato puree no thickening no seasoning just the plain juice, which there was a lot of and bought frozen oval of pastry. The meat was not cooked enough and floating around in the oval pie dish. The peas were not cooked enough and not seasoned.I should have complained there, but my wife hates me doing it.

Dropped into the New Inn after reading reviews, I have to say I was not disappointed. The menu was very varied and all food was cooked fresh to order, also all homemade which makes a very pleasant change. There was 6 of us dining and to find somewhere that suits everyone isn't always the easiest, as well as keeping all happy with value for money. We had a good cross section of choice off of the menu and also the specials board, which changes on a regular basis. The selections we ordered were Spare Ribs in BBQ sauce, Spaghetti Bolognese, chilli rice and chips, 2 leek and potato pies, and finally Cumberland sausages served in a giant Yorkshire pudding with fresh vegetables, mashed potato and onion gravy. All dishes are served with a choice of potato's, and all came up nice and hot and also a very good sized helping. We all had soft drinks bar one of us, and as for value for money the bill came to under £60. I would highly recommend the New Inn for a great meal, friendly staff and very family friendly. We will definitely be returning again soon, keep up the good work guys,

I had a day off work, so my wife and I were looking for somewhere decent for brunch (well, and earlyish lunch anyway) and we saw New Inn highly recommended here on Trip Advisor.

A group of us had breakfast there today .... after a dog walk. What a yummy breakfast! What made it extra lovely was the fantastic service - so warm and welcoming! Thank you! I will certainly be back!!! Thank you for allowing the dogs in too!

Good pub. Excellent food. Bank holidays are good, live music and dancing in the road!! Great atmosphere in the garden everyone gets involved.

I have been twice, and had the same thing. Rib-eye steak yummy, couldn't fault it. Cooked perfick......

We chose this place as it said online dogs could go in and they could. Thank you! One of us ordered the veggie breakfast which was so small it looked like a child's meal and did not satisfy the eater's hunger. I had a veggie burger and found it not to be a brown burger which I expected but a veggie pattie with breadcrumbs. Other than that,friendly staff and good service.

Staying at a hotel in the area we decided to try the New Inn for a meal. We thought the food great value and if you are looking for a good varied menu this is a good choice.

We visited this fantastic pub 3 times during our canal holiday and each time the food, the service, the friendliness of the staff were brilliant! We have a daughter with an egg allergy and as the food was freshly cooked and prepared they were able to accommodate this. The food was both good value and if fantastic quality. This pub is now in our list of pubs to visit throughout the year!

A lovely local Inn in a great location next to the canal and with a good choice of food. It has a reasonably sized car park at the rear which is convenient. Four of us went for a meal last night but due to the cold weather the usual tables on the lawn next to the canal weren't a comfortable option so we went inside to the bar. Restaurant tables were full but we were offered a table in the Public Bar which was really helpful. Menu is full of things we all liked and I always have trouble deciding because there are so many tempting options. Atmosphere is welcoming and staff friendly and helpful. Other customers were told off for swearing so is good for children. The meal was well cooked and of ample proportions and I was sorry when it was finished. I will be returning so that I can work my way down the menu.

What can I say! I had a ham, leek and chicken pie that looked...and more importantly, tasted incredible! Not one sign of frozen food, it's clear plenty of effort goes into their meals and to top it off, the staff were just fab!

For those of you living in Oakridge Park and are fed up with poor service and over priced food / drink at the Black Horse - give this place a go. Lovely garden with a canal view and unlike Black Horse you can have a canal view even if you don’t eat but just want a drink!! (Black Horse only allow diners on their decking area).

Came here on Saturday morning with my husband for breakfast, we were welcomed by every staff member we seen, the food cane out hot and fast. I had the small breakfast and my husband had the bigger breakfast - absolutely gorgeous and worth every penny! Free coffee refills with breakfast and toast or fried bread, great value and great food will definitely be returning.

This was a lovely place for lunch yesterday. Our dog was made a fuss of and welcomed in any of the areas. There was no wheelchair access as steps in all three entrances.

I booked a table of 14 a surprise dinner for my dad's birthday, from the moment we got there all the staff were friendly and accommodated to our needs, we chose this pub because it was next to the canal with passing boats which was lovely to watch with all the family, it was also half way for all the family to meet.

This is a traditional pub with traditional fare. One friend had gammon and egg which he said was ‘the best he’s tasted’. I had kippers which were cooked to perfection. Another friend had steak and and ale pie which she thoroughly enjoyed. The fourth meal was steak and cooked expertly. Two of the party were restaurants owners and the third once worked as a chef so I think their comments say it all.

We recently returned to The New Inn at New Bradwell near Milton Keynes. What a joy still! Sharon and Kirsty gave us a welcome as though we had never been away. I had a gorgeous homemade steak and ale pie and my partner had his usual ham, eggs and chips (his smile told it all!) What a good choice of ales and wines. The fayre is very reasonably priced, proper traditionally cooked food without the peri peri etc. We were then entertained by Gary Beckwith with his rock and roll singing. What a lovely day by the canal.

Eight of us went for a meal on Sunday afternoon. Service was very slow and inefficient; food was mediocre, as was the beer. We won't be going back.

Called in to the pub for lunch with my wife and sister in-law. It was mid week and still fairly busy. The menu was varied and the food was to a very high standard. The service was good and all in all it was a very pleasant eating experience. I had not been here for a good few years as I moved away from the area but will definitely use the New Inn again.

I can't believe I haven't written a review of the New Inn before now because we are there every week! The food is excellent and not the over-priced microwaved stuff of other pubs locally. The pub is small so you need to be aware that getting a table is sometimes a lottery. It's worth it though because this is what an English pub should be!

Arrived and redirected to a different bar due to refurb. Still made to feel very welcome with the team rearranging furniture to accommodate the 6 of us that just rocked up. Nothing was too much trouble and we settled in quickly to look at the menu. Lots of choice with some fantastic specials. Finally decided in what to eat as we were spoilt for choice with a fantastic menu. Food was prompt apart from one mistake which the team exolained to us and they rectified quickly. Portion sizes were just right. If you want a nice friendly pub with excellent food and welcome then this is the place. Came for a quick pit stop and stayed for quite a while... didn't want to leave.

We had breakfast here a week ago. What a gem. The food was all cooked as we waited and it was lovely. A couple of us are a little fussy, but that didn’t stop the brilliant cook, she delivered just what we asked.

Volop sfeer dus. Het eten was niet duur, meer als genoeg en nog lekker ook. Wil je echte Engelse sfeer proeven en goec eten dan moet je hier naar toe.

Con una soleada tarde de sábado, y pensamos que lo pop en the New Inn para una bebida. Música muy alta en el bar. Opción aburrida cerveza. Té vino en jarras antiguas y era horrible. El personal del bar antipático. Aseos muy sucia. Es una pena, ya que este ha sido un buen pub en el pasado.

Venir aquí todo el tiempo para la comida y la bebida. Una gran relación calidad-precio.

Me celebró una fiesta sorpresa de cumpleaños para mi marido en este lugar la última noche. Era una de última hora, pero desde el momento en que pedimos el servicio no podría haber sido más amable. El plan era bastante elaborado y estaba muy preocupada...

El coche y decidimos tener un almuerzo. Comida típica de pub, pero bastante agradable. Tuve jamón y patatas fritas y huevo marido tenía una hamburguesa y patatas fritas. A un precio muy razonable, pero caliente y sabrosa. Poco, pero teníamos no se así que no...

Ya que ha sido tomada, este pub por desgracia ha perdido su antiguo servicio excelente. A cincuenta minutos de espera para las tres comidas básicas (poaches huevos, jamón y huevos y pollo neoyorquino) no es aceptable. Es una pena, que solía ser el favorito, pero no me voy a volver.

Fantastic place to drink, and is biker friendly which is such a rarity these days. Just like how a pub should be except you need to smoke outside (not their fault it's the law now)

The New Inn is a typical old village pub with a pleasant atmosphere. We had an early evening meal in the bar here yesterday and the service was pretty good. The food was well cooked and presented. Nothing special but just good tasty food.

This is a Traditional English Pub serving Traditional English Pub Food. It is not a "Gastro" Pub but the food served is good and wholesome. The Staff are always friendly with a good sense of humour. I would call the inside decor Traditional but the outside is fantastic. Its situated on the banks of the Grand Union Canal and in the Summer you could spend a good part of an enjoyable day. Large lawn and plenty of tables and chairs. Very pretty.

Our son has just moved into the area, so decided to try his new 'local' we hadn't booked and there were seven of us, but they fitted us in with no problem. We ordered the Sunday roast and all agreed that it was the best we'd had in a long time. Almost too much food! Will recommend to all our friends. Pleasant stroll along the canal afterwards.

Canal-side setting with gardens and patio areas. The food is freshly cooked , therefore be prepared to wait a while for your meal to be served. The staff are friendly and polite, and if like me you take your dog to the pub, it will automatically be given a bowl of water and a few doggy treats! The menu is extensive and the portions are very generous! Breakfasts served from 10 am, and meals are served all day until 9 pm Mon-Sat and 6 pm on Sunday. Definitely try the speciality burgers, Specials of The Day, Lasagne or the Directors Steak and Ale Pie! A good selection of vegetarian meals, steaks start at £9.75, children's menu and a varied selection of Real Ales.

Had an early evening meal here on way out to an event.Friendly staff, good food for the money.Nice gardens to sit out by the canal.

A meal for 14, no problem at all we'd love to welcome you...was the answer to my enquiry...and we were certainly not disappointed. Lovely old inn, very friendly staff and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Great menu choices all beautifully cooked. From the 90 year old birthday girl, to the youngest 2 year old, we enjoyed ourselves. It is child and family friendly with a pretty outdoor area. We will certainly return when next in the area.

A definite local for us but we have not visited for a very long time. Location is of course lovely, just by the canal and there appears to be plenty of room for parking and outside seating with tables.The service was friendly and efficient and the three very different meals were of excellent quality, size, price and temperature.Only downside admittedly it was raining, there were people smoking on the doorstep, not very inviting and a designated smoking area is clearly publicised. Also the seat coverings have seen better days. The downstairs eating area is not very big so could get busy easily, otherwise it was very clean and honestly the food was really good. We shall return - we went on a Friday lunchtime.

This little Gem in Milton Keynes has a nice setting on the canal and has an enticing look. Inside this Old Pub there is a warm welcome with a good choice of Beers and a comprehensive Menu. I went there with 3 Colleagues for lunch and the menu had something for everyone. We were all pleased with the quality of the food and the reasonable cost. No wonder it also attracts custom from Canal boat parties.We will all be going again soon to try other items on the menu.

Took a stab in the dark on this one as it's been so long. But fair play to them.Ok, it was a bit noisy, but hey, it was Friday night after all.Warmly greeted by the staff, making us feel very welcome.And the food, well we could not fault it.Steak, to perfection as ordered. Fish, clearly fresh and tasty.Madras, tender meat and filling. Ok, maybe the Madras could have been turned up a degree or two, but that's a personal preference. Everything was spot on.Will deffo be back.

The ploughman's here is by far the best ever had for myself and our family. The service is brilliant, location perfect and landlady sharon is extremely accommodating and friendly, along with her staff. thankyou.

We were on our way to the Milton Keynes Musuem and visitedfor a 5 o/c evening meal. My husband had the beef and ale pie i hadthe cauliflower cheese both serves with fresh vegetables. We hadlemon sponge for dessert mine with lashings of custard and my husband had 3 scoops of ice cream excellent for £3.95 each. All very enjoyable. The garden over looks the canal.

I dropped in with a couple of hiking friends as the New Inn turned up at the point we wanted lunch, walking along the Grand Union Canal. To be honest, didn't expect much more than a sandwich. Very pleasantly surprised. Warm welcome, quite a wide choice of food although we usually have our litmus paper test lunch - ham, egg and chips (well we have usually walked 13 miles or more by lunch). Two of us did - the ham was described as "home cooked" on the menu, and it quite clearly was: thick, uneven slices showing it wasn't bought in, very good quality, really tasty, and amlechips, two eggs and some peas, The third person had an all day mega breakfast which he could hardly finish. The cost? £18 odd for all three of us. And a round of drinks - two pints and a large glass of very decent Merlot for about £12. Not a gastropub but good honest food, just what we wanted. A few chatty regulars who praised other dishes on the menu. We were pleased we found it.

We came for dinner whilst on our canal boat holiday. We were a party of 11 and were greeted by warm, friendly & inviting staff. Our table was booked for 7:30 & unfortunately for us they had had a big party in earlier on a fair amount of the menu choice had gone or there was only 1 portion left. We finally chose & ordered, when the food arrived the portion sizes were plentiful and the food was lovely. Everybody enjoyed what they had. I had chicken & leek pie & the chicken was a bit dry. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices considering the amount you get. In all if visting the area again we would definately visit again.

I have never had a complaint with this pub, and me and my family are regulars. Great service, cheerful staff and a lovely atmosphere. The food is great too!

I've been going to the New Inn for 20 years and it is sad to see it in the state it is in now. It's a lovely old pub with plenty of character, but the lady behind the bar looked like we were really putting her out, coming in and buying her beer! I didn't see her smile once. The selection of ales wasn't the worst I've had but it isn't great. I'm guessing they don't have the customers to justify putting on a nice guest ale. I will go again, of course, but some customer service wouldn't go amiss.

Went there on Saturday night with a group of friends. lovely atmosphere. Had a problem with my main course. but as soon as I mentioned it, it was taken away and it was given a completely new dish. everything cooked fresh again. no hesitation no problem. very impressed.

A pleasant pub next to the Canal, it gets very busy on sunny evenings as the garden is nice to sit in.They do food - but i have never sampled, nice setting for an evening out.

Good food, at a very reasonable cost. Polite friendly staff.It has a nice garden, which over looks the canal, which is nice in the summer.

Paid for a (bargain) voucher Groupon offer, Booked a table for 4, arrived on time. No table prepared, only one table in front of door available. All other tables occupied by drinkers. No-one was eating. Dirty table, threadbare chairs. usual Pub Menue (found on a nearby table)Definately not a normal fpub restaurant. (as nobody at all eating at 07.45 pm)We eat in pubs around Milton Keynes at least once a week, so do not expect too much from a pub meal, but this was way below acceptable. - we left without ordering, went to the Swan in Woughton.

This pub is in a beautiful location with a well kept garden overlooking the canal, it is very traditional and under previous management has always been an enjoyable pleasant visit. Sadly since new management over the last few months the bar staff, one in particular, uses inappropriate explicit language for all to hear and has no etiquette or consideration for all customers. We only hope things change as it would be a great shame to lose a previous favourite pub on the canal.
