Not the greatest. Food mediocre, and it seemed to have a "you're not welcome unless you're local" vibe. Whole place had an underlying smell of wet dog, even in the restaurant area. (I love dogs by the way), but not when I've paid to eat. All looks a little grubby and unhygienic. Such a shame as I've been here several years ago and it was so much better. Since discovered this establishment only has a 2 star hygiene rating!!

We decided to stop at the New Inn on the way home for a snacky lunch, however we were too tempted by the main meals on offer! There was so much to choose from and at a real good price. My partner had the faggots and I went for the fish and chips. It was homemade good pub grub, very delicious and just what we needed after a 6 mile walk! I would also like to say how brilliant the staff were, they were so lovely and attentive, we felt very welcome there. They even hand wrote a little note on our receipt thanking us for visiting, so sweet! 🥹 Also, just to make it even more special, they have a lovely ginger cat who enjoyed a fuss from me! 😺 We’re going to go back again and try the Sunday roast.

Visited for Sunday lunch on the 31/12....not a huge menu, but that's expected on a Sunday. 2 in our party ordered the Lasagne, salad and fries, the other 2, roast beef. When she took our order, the lady (possibly the landlady) asked if I'd like a smaller meal, as the roast is, apparently, a big portion.... I said okay then, as I fancied a dessert. Meals arrived...portions were generous....I had roughly half of the standard roast, and we shared the veg...cauli cheese, broccoli, carrots, swede, peas and red cabbage, all hot and very tasty. (And I had room for a chocolate brownie and ice cream after!!) On checking the bill later, I queried that we'd been charged £11.50 for each roast, even though one was small. I was told that the bill was correct and it was better value to have the normal size one. I didn't pursue it or make a fuss, as £11.50 is great value, even for a small roast. But I do think that diners should be made aware when ordering, as a smaller meal usually commands a smaller price. I shall return, but next time, will take my chances with the standard roast.

Delicious lunch at the New Inn. The menu has plenty of gluten free options with veggy and vegan options available which is very refreshing for a pub. We both had GF chicken wings which were the best we’ve ever eaten. Then we each had burgers which were made to order and piping hot - gluten free patty, chips and onion rings!! Couldn’t fault the food. My bun roll was also gluten free and even better, dairy & egg free to. The service was attentive and the young guy and girl serving were very friendly and knowledgable. This will now be our new local - thank you!

We have been to this Pub a few times. The food is good and the staff are friendly. We went this lunchtime. And we all enjoyed our meals. Just two issues..there are huge Pot holes in the car park the biggest one at the entrance. Really needs attention. Also we all three noticed that each of our china plates had chips on them ? Surely would not cost the earth to replace them.?

Greater by broken hanging pub sign and entrance porch uninviting, some sort of animal pellets, dirty shoes and strong pungent smell in there. Ordered a New Inn burger which was good, but no taste to the onion rings and the pub had weird Disney characters scattered around the place, along with tacky IKEA inspirational quote pictures. A lovely pub which needs the traditional look brought back to it. I last visited 4 or so years ago, and it was much better. Unfortunately this establishment seems to have lost its way.

Family Saturday lunch with Gran (Fussy eater) nice atmosphere and decorations much nicer inside than appears from the road. Very impressed by the menu great veggie options can highly recommend the beetroot wellington! Lovely creamy tarragon sauce overall as a Lunch special one of the best value meals I’ve head in a while. - starter: creamy garlic mushroom Don’t normally get excited about this dish but the focaccia underneath was super tasty could pick up the olive oil flavours baked into the bread. - Beetroot Pie& chicken and ham pie: Very good Gran Quote “it’s like a proper meal!” She very much enjoyed her pie too, pasty looked perfect. would come back and try more of their pies of the day. - biscoff Cheese cake. Love a pub meal cheese cake pudding, can’t normally go wrong and this was better than normal. Yum! - rest of the food: being the nosey B’ggers we are kept an eye on the other plates coming out. Even the burgers coming out looked decent. Lady serving us with the Big eyelashes was very friendly so was the younger lad. Kept the drinks flowing and answered our 1,000,000 questions. Nice to see a cider on tap that wasn’t thatchers. Hogs something. And good select of local craft ales. Top local pub in the area based on my recent visits! 1st place out of 5 Fantastic value (try the lunch menu) £16.95 For three courses Would normally expect to pay £21.95 for that kind of deal. Will be recommending.

First visit with my daughter was ok! So decided to take my husband for a second visit. I had the same meal and went for the gammon which I enjoyed whilst my husband had the rump steak which we wasn't quite sure was the correct one. It was rather inadequate and most definitely harder than it was ordered..!!! Whilst the meal looked pleasant there was a slight taste to several ingredients on our plates! The garlic bread could have done with an iron boost it was that pale!!!!After leaving disappointed my husband and I the following day and into the evening started to feel unwell. My husband suffered worse than I. Least to say after several years reviewing hotels, restaurants we will not be spending another dinner date here.. So dissatisfied with our meal.

We have lived in Exeter for just over 17 years and always been on the outlook for nice local pubs, well this is just that, a nice local pub with nice local people. we asked at the bar as to the possibility of eating for lunch, we were informed that there was no problem but because of a staff shortage there would be a short wait, no problems with that, me wife ordered Scampi, chips and pea, myself I only want a toasted sandwich with a portion of chips, the cost of these seemed to reflect the going price for these items in pubs in the area. After a short wait the food arrived, it was nice and hot and well cooked, it was probably not the best that we have had! but it was a long way from the worst, my wife's scampi was nicely cooked and a good portion, her chips were the same as were the peas. my sandwich was cheese and onion toasty, which was very good, the small salad on the side was a little disappointing, but as I had ordered a portion of chips to go with my sandwich this was not a major problem. both plates were left clean of food, which is a good indication of how the meals were. Would we go there again? without doubt xxx

Ten of us went to the New Inn for a family Birthday gathering and we pre-booked the table. The New Inn is a family pub with plenty of space for the children to enjoy themselves. The Menu offered a range of varied choices, plus a "specials board". The food was good, reasonably priced and served quickly to all ten of us on hot plates - why do other restaurants serve hot food on cold plates? Nothing pretentious and the front of house aspect of greeting a large party needs to be improved. Happy to return and would recommend to those who want a "no frills, good food, sensible prices".

Typical pub lunch. I chose the cold meat platter. Prices are slightly higher than the website. I think it was about £7.50 about a pound more expensive. The choice of menu was also smaller than the website. They were very accommodating as I didn't want chips so offered me extra salad. The home-made coleslaw was lovely, the chutney was nice as well as the dressing on the salad. All in all it was a fairly decent sized meal with beef, ham and proper chunky slices of chicken breast. The other half had a steak baguette and chips for the same price. The steak was cooked perfectly. We managed to get a nice table at the front of the pub which is much nicer than the back.

A good friendly pub we found the staff, and in particular the owner, to be very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced, the reason I have given a Very Good rating rather than Average is that most people in our party were very pleased with the food. However, a couple of people found their steaks, although not cold, not as hot as perhaps they should have been and the meat in one of the pies, although plentiful was a little too fatty for their liking. For me however, the worse thing was the blackberry(?) and apple crumble where the skin on the apple had been left in and was extremely tough and inedible. Would I go back again? - yes I would give it another try.

The food is good and well presented with the cost keep very reasonable. The staff where helpful in all an extremely pleasant visit. The added bonus was it is dog friendly.

We booked a table for two. We were left waiting at the bar when we arrived, and ignored, as though we we invisible. We waited at the bar while another customer paid next to us, then the barman just walked off. When we were eventually spoken to, we were told where to find our table, not shown where it was. We had to seat ourselves. We sat down and waited........and waited.....and waited. No one came to our table to give us menus or take any drink order. The waitress was too busy standing behind us, talking to her friend at the bar. We waited for 20 minutes, sitting at our table. Eventually we got up and just left without any staff coming to our table. On the way out I told one of the bar staff why we were leaving. He just shrugged and said 'oh'. On arrival there was a really unwelcoming atmosphere. There was a group of men standing at the bar as we went in, who stared and blocked the access to the small restaurant. The staff were unhelpful and arrogant. We definitely won't be going back. They don't deserve our custom.

This is a lively pub with a good atmospehere - it is very family orientated (we've left a couple of times because there were lot of children around) however ideal if you are looking for somewhere to take the kids to play outside. Food is reasonably priced an large portions

The New Inn is run by Tony and Barbara and they take endless trouble to make sure you get what you want. The service is good and their Sunday dinners are particularly good value. You're sure of a friendly welcome at a very reasonable cost.

Food was good but loud conversation by bad mannered middle aged men at the bar most off putting. One man said "I needed to pick the s--t off the toilet floor first" . Apart from being overly loud the conversation continued along the lines of "toilet humour" punctuated frequently with the "f" word.We felt upset to hear this when we had paid good money for a relaxing meal. There seemed to be an ant problem on the window cill near us and the table needed a good wipe as it was sticky. We have eaten here several times recently and enjoyed the food but will not be returning any time soon.

Went here for a friends party. Beautiful place but totally ruined by miserable unhappy owners. Extremely overpriced £3.95 for a pint of larger. Food menu limited.

Attended with a small group of Coeliacs for a prearranged lunchtime meeting. A good choice of gluten free meals was provided at a reasonable price. The pub has a large car park &, good outside eating area. The general menu is not large but is varied and the food is always well cooked & value for money (my wife is not a Coeliac and selects from the general menu). There is a good selection of local ale and in addition real Devon Cider from a local producer.

We popped in for an after-work meal but decided against eating at the New Inn. The chap behind the bar wasn't particularly welcoming and almost seemed to resent us interrupting his chat with the people sat at the bar. The minimal menu was terribly presented, being held together with sellotape and with allergen-advice stickers liberally sprinkled over the text! The setting is great but they really need to work on the welcome and the menu before we'd consider visiting again. The last time I went to the New Inn it was at lunchtime and the pub was packed, lively and welcoming. The food was great then too. Admittedly my last visit was about 3 years ago; I wonder what has happened?

We went to this pub for a function and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was excellent, I can't comment on the alcohol as I don't drink but over the time we were there the staff were really friendly and the skittle alley which we were able to use was a bonus. Sadly we don't live locally but if we did this would be a lovely friendly local.

This is my local, so I am happy to be called biased. It is my local principally because it gives excellent service, is friendly, never too crowded - and is good value. There is always a range of good beer, usually from a 100 mile radius - they like supporting local brewers. The range of strengths is good too - which is important if you are driving. The food is very tasty, and there are always some older persons taking advantage of a substantial meal at a reasonable price. Plenty of variety, from ham, egg and chips at around £7, to curries and pies. Probably best to ring in advance and check what is on that day.A very big garden and play area for children, plus tables outside (not for this time of year!). The porch at the front is now a large enclosed area for smokers, but this does not waft into the pub that I have noticed (I am a non-smoker).A bit off the beaten track, but useful if you are visiting Killerton. From Exeter, turn off right having just entered Broadclyst, then go straight on when the road swings hard right, and the pub is about 1/2 mile further on. Large car park.

A friendly country pub off the beaten track but well worth a visit. Plenty of parking and there is a large outside eating area. Real ales and real Devon Cider, from a local supplier, available. There is always a good varied menu with additional specials on the day. With advance warning this pub supplied an excellent Christmas meal for the local Coeliacs and will also cater for other dietary requirements.

Not a great eating experience or service. First choice of pie unavailable, 2nd choice burgers from the special board suspect not home cooked. Salad plain, chips average. Eating areas surprisingly limited and unattractive. Beer great though and small area at front homely.

My wife and I dined at the New Inn for the first time today. We were warmly welcomed by a most friendly and helpful barman, and when served with our drinks, found a table next to a roaring open fire. A good menu with plenty of choice and a selection of daily specials made it difficult to decide what to order, but I settled on the 8oz burger and my wife opted for the ham, chicken and leek pie. After just a few minutes, our meals arrived, both hearty portions, and very well presented. My burger was delicious, with lovely chunky home made chips, and my wife's pie looked very tempting indeed. The atmosphere was very cosy and relaxed, and we were asked a number of times if everything was OK or whether we needed anything else. The food was delicious, and neither of us had room for a dessert. Two gents sitting at the next table were enjoying ploughman's lunches which looked very good indeed. One of them enquired about the crisps which were on the plates, and where they could be obtained. The lady explained that although the pub did not sell them over the counter, they were most welcome to enjoy the remainder of the bag for nothing. It seemed that nothing was too much trouble.A choice of 4 superb local ales was on offer, all in excellent condition as I sampled one of each.On leaving the pub we were bid a friendly farewell by the staff, and left felling utterly satisfied. I could not fault any aspect of our visit, and we would definitely dine here again. Prices were reasonable and represented good value for money, and the staff couldn't do enough for you.A great Devon country pub which ticks all the boxes.

A lovely, welcoming, traditional country pub. The food is always of a high standard and as well as the usual offerings you would expect from a country pub there is also a specials board which offers the diner something different. The specials are changed regularly taking full advantage of seasonal produce. Special diets are catered for with Vegetarian and those with Gluten allergies not forgotten. In the winter there is a roaring fire and log burner which give the Inn a comfy feel. In the summer you can take advantage of outside area with plenty of outdoor seating and for a more intimate experience, try the restaurant. Barbara and Tony and their staff are very attentive and go the extra mile to ensure you have a great time. Thoroughly recommended!

A typical Devon country pub, no frills, nothing fancy but good friendly service and excellent food. Good value too and nothing was too much trouble - when I asked for some more gravy with my roast the waitress brought a huge jug, which was piping hot - lovely !!!!

This pub is nicely located in the countryside just out of Broadclyst, near Exeter, on the minor road to Whimple. It is obviously popular with the locals, has a decent car-park and large outside area and is dog friendly. It has lots of tables to eat at inside - nothing fancy, bordering on utilitarian. The bar staff are friendly and attentive. The food is plain ordinary pub grub but hot, the mains well cooked and not stingy on quantity (AND big plus that lots of finer restaurants could do well to emulate - came on HOT plates!!). Great place for a good pint and a pie and chips. We only rate this as average because we thought the food slightly over-priced and dessert (plum and frangipane tart was sloppy (literally) and overly sweet and didn't detect the almonds.Clean and welcoming. Looks like would have fantastic real fires in the winter.

My wife and I have various food allergies, so it was so good to be told that they can adapt the meals to meet our needs. And they did, GF, veg instead of potatoes, you name it, it was done. The food itself was excellent, all four of us had brilliant meals. Well worth a visit

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.
