New Ground in Harlow

I was at the bar 10 minutes before the kitchen closed on November 5th. We sat down and the waiters gave us the menus. They told us that we had to place our order quickly because the kitchen closes at 3:00 pm. After literally 2 minutes we were ready to order our food but they told us that it wasn't possible and there was still like 8 minutes to 3 o‘clock. We didn't think anything of it and left. I returned at 4:00 pm to get a coffee and they wouldn't even let me in. Absolutely ridiculous. I won't be back.

Love this place, especially the decor, all the little touches everywhere you look. Great prints on the wall, fab branding... Love it. We only had coffee and cake this time, which was delicious, but took a look at the menu for when we return. There's lots to choose from and I have to say everything that appeared from the kitchen looked really nice. It has a great atmosphere, very welcoming, big windows with lots of natural light, licensed so you can enjoy a cheeky wine, a lovely place.

Had a fantastic experience, was seated and looked after by Ali, amazing service and very good food. Veggie breakfast is very tasty. Will definitely be returning

A great local cafe with a very basic but good menu of well cooked and well presented meals served by friendly and efficient staff. Evening menu more limited than lunch menu and not available every day. Kitchen closes at 8pm.

Recently moved in the area and this place became my favourite spot for breakfast when going for a walk in the morning, delicious food and very good service. We were served today by a lovely lady Katie. Dogs are welcomed 👌🏽

Since moving to Harlow 4 years ago, new ground has been one of our favourite spots, dog friendly, great coffee and good seating options outside for sunny days. My partner and I visit new ground a few times a week whether just grabbing a coffee or enjoying breakfast. Ellie is always so friendly and makes the best vanilla lattes ever!

Visited here with family recently for brunch. What a lovely place for food and drinks. There’s a great selection of food available, including high protein options (I had the protein pancakes) and ability to add protein to smoothies. Will be back when we are in town!

New Ground is a community as well as a cafe. The service is excellent and the chef is amazing. Dogs are welcome. I believe that a place such as this is necessary in every community, and we are fortunate to live close by.

Had the most wonderful experience of a welcome, superb service and fabulous brunch at New Ground today…..Silvo was excellent and estimg on the terrace in the sun!!!! WOW!!!!

Food was lovely, the service was a little slow, but that may have been due to short staff or maybe more customers than expected.

Coffee was really nice and the breakfast was excellent, I'm quite fussy and it was cooked exactly to my specifications -which never usually happens! Sadly my second visit was a total non-starter. I had my dog with me but he's not sociable so I wanted to order a coffee so we could sit outside. After 10 minutes, I ventured to the door and explained that I couldn't come in, the young man just shrugged and said 'you have to order at the counter' and wouldn't even entertain taking my order and using their PORTABLE card machine so I could pay. Really disappointed.

Who knew anyone could make Tofu enjoyable! For that alone they deserve 5 stars! Food here is superb, good quality ingredients make all the difference. Slight mishap with my friends order but swiftly rectified and a free coffee thrown in! (not literally!)

I been more than couple of time and for me that I’m celiac this place is amazing they really take care of it and I never felt sick, they really try to do the best and is something that I appreciate, the chef is really carful and a really nice guy he try to work and understand this new celiac world and he’s food is something incredible I love his food you can order everything but in gluten free, all the stuff they are lovely and really friendly I really recommend this place one of my favourite places.

It's been awhile since my last visit & review for here. It's my fav place to stop off @ during a circular run of about 10k(6 miles) where I can grab a quick or leisurely pint of beer. Plenty of tables & seats inside & out. I order up my Salt IPA (@£5) & they bring it to me outside. They have now got a (what I think is) a cocktail bar with @ least 20 bottles of liquor on view. I can imagine it's well popular here as there's no pub within 750 metres. I've not had any food here so have no reviews on that, but food does seem popular. I would recommend this establishment to all looking for a casual, well run, local eaterie come coffee shop.

A pleasant and quaint eatery that does brunch and lunches in a nice quiet part of Newhall. The staff were polite when taking the orders and attentive to those who had food allergies or concerns. The brunch breakfast was delicious and more than expelled my hunger pangs.

Just home after another lovely lunch at the wonderful New Ground. Everything is always well presented and tastes delicious, but today they have excelled themselves with the new CHICKEN CEASAR SALAD. Very generous portions, full of flavour and my new favourite item on the menu. All we need now is a little sunshine and a glimpse of summer... thank you to Tracie, Dave & the team x

First time eating here, amazing lunch (Laksa beef brisket bowl) loads of flavour and attentive staff. Tea was hot and served immediately. I also used the free wifi so I was able to work at the same time which was a bonus. Looking forward to coming back and trying the evening menu :-)

The food is great they cocktails are great but the service is so slow I sat there for 20 minutes waiting for a drink. Finally the waitress took my order then had to wait another further 10 minutes for the drink to arrive. They need to sort their service out. It’s a shame it’s the only thing what lets them down lovely place will go back again and give it another go.

One thing I love about this place is the service they always ask if you’re being served they always acknowledge you as soon as you walk in the door. Love the atmosphere, the food is good. I was served by Katie she was so lovely and accommodating

Come on a weekly basis, great food, ive tried most dishes over the last few years. What seperates it from others is the quality of the produce they use, they never let the quality drop. Others do i have found. Great cooking fabulous owners and staff, special mention for Karen. All the staff couldn't be more attentive, added to that you could be anywhere in the world as you absorb the wonderful ambience. If you haven't been there yet, go and you're sure to go back.

Our second visit after a very good first visit was disappointing for a number of reasons firstly inconsistencies in sizes of bread one very large one very small and both same cost and crusts very hard and inedible. Pancakes were grainy, maple syrup wasn't maple syrup and compote was more like jam. Mackerel pate was not a pate and didn't have anywhere near enough mackerel more cream. I also don't expect my pate to have been very thinly spread on my one piece of toast for me. Very poor value for £9.00. I have had this previously and it was very good and served in a very different way. Staff were attentive and changed a mackerel dish when a member of our party didn't like it, free of charge. Coffee and tea were very good, tap water fresh, cold and readily available. Vegetarian options of mushrooms on toast and mushroom eggs benedict were good but benedict could have done with more sauce. Hopefully this was just an off day but will think twice before recommending again.

Really nice for mums as it's child friendly. Lots of mums and baby's come here, myself included. It's quite expensive for what it is though and although lots of people with buggys and babies go here, there isn't really much space between tables to manoeuvre to and from. Much nicer if you can grab a table outside. Most staff are friendly but seem to have diff people every time I go. Do recommend Food but just bare in mind it's fairly pricey for what it is.

Service very, very slow, tables not kept clean. I would not recommend. The only saving was the food, when it came, was hot and very tasty.

Every time we come for a brunch, the food is absolutely always on point and delicious. I regularly go out for a brunch with my family and this is one of my favourite places. The flavours of each dishes is just delicious, the eggs are so nicely cooked. Today I saw the chef popping out from the kitchen and I had to share my feedback. My son loves the food especially the pancakes. Last week we attended for Mother’s Day and I also met the owner who is so lovely. This place is gem, highly recommend it. Giada :-)

I am a regular here but I wanted to share a special review of my recent visit. We just missed out on Pancake Tuesday by 10-15 mins on arrival. The manager, Tracey, saw how sad we were. She immediately offered us cake and tea on the house. What a lovely gesture. I am a new mom and little thoughtful gestures like that can really make a world of a difference when the role can be demanding and stressful. We also had a lovely chat about parenting and motherhood which was so wholesome. Hearing from another mum who is further down the line really helped. Thank you to the whole team, especially Tracey for the lovely service and hospitality.

Love coming here! I buy a LOT of coconut vanilla lattes to take away and have brunch here with my 1 year old sometimes. Staff are always friendly, polite and welcoming. Never disappointed with their food, they are really great with little ones, lots of kids, families and dogs, such a nice atmosphere. I always feel really relaxed eating here. Would highly recommend to anyone and take/meet a lot of my friends & family here :)

Impressive food and great coffee and cocktails at this local eatery. Have been here for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner and it’s always a great experience. Love the fact that we can bring our dog along too. The Turkish rolls are an absolute highlight as are the burgers and nachos. It can be a bit noisy inside when it’s a bit too cold to have the doors open but you can still hear yourself speak. Highly recommended, particularly during happy hour!

Really friendly service. But the one for me is the coffee... Honestly the best coffees and mocchas I've had in a long time!

Met for lunch. The cafe is set on a row of shops and has a terrace outside with roughly 4 tables outside. The cafe serves a variety of Vegan/Vegetarian and meat and egg based food. Inside was very busy. I found the tables very close together, there were several prams and pushchairs taking up the limited space as the clientel was mainly young mums meeting up for lunch. It was extremely noisy. We both ordered a pot of tea and a Turkish sausage sandwhich, the teas where served in a pot on a small tray each, which though nicely presented took up quite a lot of space on the table. The sausage sandwiches were delicious, crispy outside and tasty Churchill sausages inside. The toilets were multi use, but very clean. I felt the pricing a little on the high side for what you get, the rolls are served without any onions or salad etc., The jacket potato with one filling was £10, which I considered expensive But overall bearing in mind this cafe is not a chain, I thought it was a very nice experience.

Food always good but service needs improvement

New Ground is our regular and the perfect hub for Newhall residents and beyond. The food is always delicious and the staff friendly. A special shout out to Karen who has become a friend to us she is wonderful and also Ivana who is always so friendly and happy to see us and both so good with children. We love coming here for lunch, dinner and drinks and the events they always put on.

I go here a couple of times a week, and the staff are always excellent. It's often busy, but a little unpredictably so -- and it can be much quieter than you'd expect at some times; given their capacity this can easily lead to them being unexpectedly under- or over-staffed at times, as they can very quickly go from having 3 cafe customers to 30 bistro customers. Sometimes they make mistakes (everyone does), but they've always been excellent in handling problems. Some of the food can be a bit pricey, but you very much get what you pay for.

Great environment, great stuff and excellent food. Karen was especially helpful.

A real shame that I feel the need to write this review. I've visited New Ground before many times and have enjoyed the food. I am a vegetarian of 25 years. Today I noticed there was a bit of bacon on my plate - mixed within the food - despite having ordered a vegetarian breakfast. I can count on one hand how many times this has happened in my lifetime. Obviously as soon as I found it, I was unable to continue eating the food. What does it say about an establishment when you are finding bits of meat in a vegetarian plate of food? I immediately informed a member of staff (lady with pink hair) who was shocked and incredibly apologetic, as to be expected. What I didn't expect was to be then be told a few minutes later: "We've removed the price of your breakfast from the bill, but the owner has asked that you still pay for the extra vegan sausage you added" Almost laughable really. What an absolute joke. Paid for the added extra along with my partner's breakfast and the drinks and then left. Surprised that the owner felt it was appropriate to ask me to pay for part of my breakfast, after serving the food with a bit of bacon mixed in. Will never be returning. What a disgusting attitude from the owner.

Called in for a coffee after a morning walk with my partner. Very friendly helpful staff.

This is our local and we've been let down before by last minute cancellations on our bookings over the years because they've decided to close early. However tonights meal was an absolute joke. We sat down at 7.30pm and were instantly told they were turning off the coffee machines so there were no hot drinks. 30 minutes later we were told they were doing last drink orders (at 8pm when the website states they close at 11pm). The lack of awareness and customer service is unreal. I've waitressed for many years and on the slowest of nights we would never make people feel unwelcome and ruin their experience. I will definitely not go here again. My experience is not unusual as many local people I know refuse to even buy their coffees due to waiting times/lack of customer service. Really disappointed once again. Update: Its disappointing you stated my comments were 'untrue'. 'Unfair' is your point of view, however 'untrue' is not the case. I can categorically tell you both myself and my friend were told there were no hot drinks (very shortly after we were seated and your cctv, as you mentioned you checked, will see this). To me it's irrelevant if the machine is deep cleaned or turned off. The drinks are unavailable. In fact, we were told there were 'last drinks' full stop whilst we were eating. I do not eat meat, therefore I didn't order the wrong meal from my perspective as I would never order meat. I ordered a meal (which after being served meat) I checked the menu and saw you had a dish with the same name, except one was 'vegan'. I hadn't noticed the meat one on the menu as I looked for vegan straight away. Therefore, if you have the same name for a dish, I would expect the waiting staff to ask is it vegan or beef. I'm extremely disappointed that you replied to my message stating my review was a lie. Yes, you're correct I understand the difficulties in hospitality, I also understand the importance of people's experience and ours was so disappointing both myself and my friend were slightly shocked (as you'll see on the cctv you mentioned you checked). Hopefully other customers won't feel as unwelcome as we did.

6 of us came for lunch on a Saturday , we had to do a preorder which actually worked out well as we didn't have to wait too long for our food . Staff were efficient and pleasant . Food looked and tasted good and we were all very happy with our choices . Thank you to the chef who yet again let my daughter have scrambled eggs which I know isn't on the menu but are the only eggs she likes . Much appreciated . Only slight negative is that they never have all the choices of kombucha drinks that are advertised on the menu , particularly the raspberry one though turmeric one is always available 🙄 please re stock them more regularly or take them off the menu . Will look forward to our next visit as usual 😁

Made my 2nd visit to New Ground on Friday, it's a lovely place with a very chilled atmosphere, good music but at a low enough volume that you're aware of it but not having to raise your voice to be heard. The food is lovely and the service is great, all the staff are very friendly and helpful. My first visit was just for coffee and despite them having a private function in the main part of the cafe they managed to seat 3 of us just for drinks and the service we received definitely wasn't impacted by them already being very busy. My 2nd visit was for lunch, ended up being there for 4 hours as it was such a lovely atmosphere and reasonably priced so didn't break the bank to order a couple of extra teas and coffees for the duration of our visit. I'm sure there will be a 3rd visit in the not too distant future 👍

I visited Newground today with my friend and the food was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the Bubble Florence accompanied with a glass of Pasquiers Sauvignon. Service was quick and the atmosphere was chill. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Newground is a great little spot in newhall, food is almost always perfect! Service from the younger ones is either a bit sore or there is a language barrier. Drinks guaranteed take minimum of 10 mins with is annoying when it’s not ever coffee! That’s also if they have the drink in stock which is a regular occurrence. Then there is karen who is like a little ray of sunshine at yours! She always makes a fuss of you when you walk in, we’ve just had a baby and she really goes out of her way to ask how we are doing and how little one is. She makes this place special. Note - look after her (!) she makes the difference at NewGround.

Very good food, prices are decent too

The lady charged for and made me the wrong drink - when I pointed it out she charged me for the correct drink and didn’t refund for the wrong one she’d made but took the wrong one off me.

It's my favourite cafe in Harlow. Such friendly, helpful staff. Delicious food. You just want to go back. It's great to sit outside. Very dog friendly. Shame there is no Blue Light Card discount. I've not been in an evening, Fri or Sat, but a good place to go for a romantic eve, I imagine.

I Recently attended New Ground Cafe and was turned away due to my clothing choice... I was wearing a BLM top !! As a person of colour i was deeply offended and will not be returning.

Wonderful service this morning @New Ground. Staff extremely friendly & helpful. I use an electric scooter, which they where more than happy to accommodate. (which is often not the case! ) Sadly! A warm welcome, coffee and a pan au chocolate! A lovely start to my day. Thank you. I will be back soon

We were fully content with the breakfast we had at New Ground Cafe. We turned up on a Monday morning, hence why they accomodated seven people easily and our breakfast was also made quickly. The ingredient were varied and portions were also decent. There were also plant-based options which some of us truly valued. As for the facilities, the unisex toilets did not appeal to us at all, however this did not greatly affect our overall experience.

Food is good. Weirdly the staff were fairly rude when I went this time and I've never experienced that in here before. Also Not the restaurants fault but you have absolutely no signal or data in this place so something to bare in mind. They do have WiFi but super slow. On the higher end of prices for breakfast but they do use quality ingredients.

Katie met us at the door and was so polite and helpful, I have been coming to new ground for a long time but her kindness was amazing and the most welcomed I’ve ever felt.

Popped in today for a late breakfast, lovely atmosphere and great service with friendly staff. Refreshing to see a menu that has plenty of variety and food is fresh and top quality, I tried the Turkish eggs dish for the first time and it was superb.

We visit this cafe often and have always received great service and the staff are always welcoming and polite. The food is always lovely and we have never had a bad meal with a wide variety of tasteful dishes, there is so much to choose from! The coffee is amazing, as well as their smoothies and cocktails! My family and I often attend the Quiz Nights and other events that they hold and we always have a great time. I always recommend the New Ground Cafe to friends and family who have also said how lovely and welcoming it is. Can’t wait to visit in the summer when they have all the outside seating.

I took my family for brunch this morning and it was amazing. The food was delicious especially the carrot fritters ! And the sausages 😋 the service was spot on, we arrived and was seated quickly. Definitely be visiting again .

There was a great choice of food and drinks to suit many preferences from vegan to gluten free. There was plenty of seating and the staff were friendly. Prices were reasonable although the cakes were a little on the pricey side. Service was a bit slow - it took about 20 mins to get our drink order, but the food came shortly after and was worth the wait. The whole place was clean and modern.

After being seated they took our order, we waited a very long time for our food, in fact we were about to walk out then the meal turned up, lots of staff moving around, wasn’t really impressed with the food either we thought we give it a try, old Harlow blue cafe was far better for us and a much larger menu.
