New Golden Wok in Eastleigh

For a long time we have used other Chinese take away shops but had heard about the New Golden Wok from someone who I met outside of 'another place' who was grumbling that he wouldn't go there again but would instead revert to the NGW. Now I know why - fast, easy service and the whole thing was done with a smile (rather than the unfriendly grunts you get at a nearby service). The food was superb, there was lashings of it and at a reasonable price. Full marks - will be back

New favourite - fresh hot and tasty….. Will defo come back again….. Thank you for a lovely meal…….all the Family enjoyed….

never used before was recommended on Chandlers Ford group, food was lovely and full of flavour, ordered a variety of dishes loads left. Would definitely pick up next time as online said delivery 35 mins and was well iver an hour

Probably the worst Chinese takeaway I’ve ever had, I’m not normally one to write bad reviews as you can see but this was gross. It didn’t taste a thing like what we ordered, tasted cheap and nasty and I won’t order from here again. Actually threw 3/4 away as I couldn’t stomach it

We always use New Golden Wok and I be the first to bin it if there was anything suspect and have always found their food to be decent and delivery this time was a record 11 minutes Nooiicce

Well for Father’s Day during the exit from lockdown, we wanted to get fish and chips to eat in the garden with my parents enabling socially distancing and no sharing of utensils etc. There were NO fish and chip shops open in Chandler’s Ford. Found out that the New Golden Wok do cod and chips and they deliver. So I ordered online for a delivery at 6:30 of 6 x cod and chips. To say I was nervous about it is an understatement. I didn’t need to be. Probably the nicest pieces of cod we’ve ever had! Amazing batter. The chips were plentiful (in fact only 1 of us finished their portion) and, although very well cooked, piping hot, freshly cooked (not reheated or kept warm, and not a single green/black one, they were tasty but not the nicest. Having said that, it’s usually down to the potatoes available rather than the way they are cooked. So I was not at all disappointed, would order again from these guys - they delivered it on time, really hot and clearly cooked to order with prompt sending out.

I thought our meal was one of the best I have had in a long time, large portions and great value. We all enjoyed it, pancake roll, king prawn king po, special rice, ribs in capital sauce.

Ordered food through the app which stated 45 minutes to delivery (or 15 mins uf we picked up). Delivery was over 50 minutes late. The food itself is good and tasty but would suggest picking up orders if that is how far out delivery times are. Marking is for the food. Would be one circle for delivery.

Ordered over £70 worth of food for a birthday meal. On their website, you can specify a delivery time (nothing amazing there, lots of takeaways and delivery companies offer this) - the difference being, other companies I’ve used, are able to actually meet the time. Sure most people would accept a few minutes late but my order was half an hour early! Time chosen was due to guests work commitments and if we had wanted the food that much earlier, I would have picked the appropriate time. In addition to specifying the delivery slot, I added a comment to the order, advising that it was for a birthday and that we wanted the food for a certain time. The delivery driver was apologetic but as he said, he just delivers what he is sent out with. Rang the restaurant and spoke to a man that didn’t seem to care what I was saying and when I asked what the point of having an option to select a time if they are going to deliver well outside what I think is a reasonable margin, he hung up on me. Crispy calamari, is definitely not crispy after being sat for around half an hour! Other food was ok but based on their inability to deliver - in both the food and the customer service, will NEVER order from here again(food may have been nicer, if delivered as requested but am not spending any further cash with these people). Their menu currently says under new management, based on my experience I wouldn’t be surprised if even newer management came in. For me, this is one place to avoid but if you are happy with random delivery times and really bad attitude/customer service, then it may be ok for you.

Pros: Fast delivery Rice OK Hoisin OK Cons: Crispy duck rolls - hard cardboard like cylinders with a minimal filling of some sort. Chicken curry - should be simple right! - no - tough huge pieces of chicken, no chunky onions, dark sauce, slimy, congealed full of MSG Chicken Kung Po - slightly better size of chicken pieces but same sauce issues as curry, too much MSG DON'T GO THERE UNLESS YOU WANT RICE OR CHIPS ONLY - ANYTHING THAT MIGHT CONTAIN MSG..... AVOID - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

The takeaway arrived promptly but the chicken in the curry was fleshy, floppy, unlike chicken, no bite or chew, it was horrible. Also the curry sauce was jellyish not smooth. We ordered pancake roll and only x1 arrived. Very disappointing 👎👎👎

On Friday 19 April we ordered a take away meal for friends that had come over for the evening. Unfortunately the crispy duck arrived without the pancakes so I called the new golden wok and was criticised for not checking the bag! I explained that we had checked twice and the person on the line who I can only assume was the owner hung up on me! Later and after we had finished our meal, which was mediocre at best, the pancakes arrived. I politely explained that we had finished our meal and I would like to have my money back for the starter. The delivery driver told me that the manager would call me back. . . you know where this is going. Later after not receiving a call back, I phoned the new golden wok and after again politely explaining that we had not received our order (which we had paid for), I received a tirade of abuse from the manager who again hung up! All I can say is avoid, avoid, avoid as this place is a disgrace.

I have now had a takeaway 3 times from here and all three have been first rate. The Takeaway could do with a tidy up the chap there could do with a smile but it’s all about the food.

I ordered a mushroom foo Yong meal and stated I was vegetarian twice on the phone to make sure they understood I didn’t want to eat meat. The food came and because I stated it I didn’t think to look when dishing up my food for meat. As you can probably guess there was meat in my food and to say I was upset was an understatement! I called and stated what happened the young guy on the phone then hung up on me, when I called back they offered me a new one and a refund which I thought was very nice of them considering the circumstances. My food then came about 30 minutes later, by this point I had been sick due to the stress of eating meat involentrly so didn’t really want the meal but thought I’d take it anyway, the meal came however the refund and no apology did! When calling back all I got was a young Timmid guy on the phone with a female Chinese women screaming over him and then a very rude gentleman took over the call stating no refund would be given and I’ve eaten so what was the problem, he couldn’t comprehend the fact he had involentry gave someone meat when they do not eat it due to beliefs and was being very aggressive on the phone ! To say I’m angry and upset doesn’t even cover it! The food other than the meat is mediocre but the service if the worst I’ve ever receive in my life do not go here to eat!

Good quality, consistent, friendly service, good value. I don't need 100 characters to say how good they really are!

This place should be closed,the food is awful the place is disgusting,dirty bloody dump avoid at all costs.if you want a decent Chinese then please go to canton house its the best around here! They need health inspectors to close this place down for good.

We always use this chinese for our Friday night takeaways. If you call at 5 they are prompt with delivery of around 25 minutes and even if you want a later delivery call at 5pm and they can deliver at your selected time.

Don't really know where to start

Most disgusing Chinese ever. All three dishes (Prawn, Beef, Duck) looked the same in a thick gloopy, dark brown gravy. All full of salt, including the rice dish. Gross. Couldn't eat. All gone in the bin.

A good selection of food and a great price, always quick service and they now have an improved online ordering service.

Disgusting meal, grilled dumplings looked like they were fried in a weeks old oil, sauce was vinegar!! Seaweed just tasted of fish Chicken and mushroom was tasteless even the prawn crackers were hard and not crispy ....

we had a takeaway from here, quoted an hours wait but arrived within 30 mins, the food was excellent and tasted great. loved the squid. will be using this Chinese from now on.

We have used this takeaway on and off for the last few years. Normally as a last resort and only because it delivers. However, on this occasion the food was excellent, Kung po chicken, satay skewers, pancake rolls and special fried rice were all delicious and turned up 15 mins before expected. Only small complaint was that the food wasn't very warm when it arrived. We will give it another chance.

Seems that the staff change over every couple of years - latest family food very nice but does seem a bit grubby - windows and floors - wont take credit cards without charging £1 or seem reluctant to take cards. Have not had a bad meal here.

Ordered here tonight and it turned up in good time. Food was actually really tasty until I found 3 long black hairs untwined in 2 different days she's. 2 hairs were in a chicken chow neon in one spoonful. I was so disappointed and it put me off the rest of the meal... along with my friends. Such a shame as we have had a decent take away from them once before. Just a blessing this one isn't my local Chinese. Was told we would get free dishes next time but won't be ordering again. I called to inform them and was asked if the hair was black or yellow????.... the manager also assured me they all wear hats and it's very clean.

It amazes me why there are no reviews on here. The New Golden Wok doesn't pretend what it isn't. It's simply a basic Chinese take away with an extensive menu. The food is good and is made to order. They will deliver if that's what you want or you can collect it yourself.
