Little Canton in Eastleigh

I was told about Little Canton, having an extensive gluten free menu and as a coeliac, Chines restaurants catering for suffers are few and far between. Having read the reviews I was a little apprehensive as there were one or two negative reviews. I needn't have worried, the place was far above my expectation! From start to finish it was a fantastic experience, very polite, knowledgeable, friendly staff. The gluten free menu is huge. My wife who isn't coeliac went with me on the gluten free menu so we could try and share a number of different dishes, as she knows you can't taste the difference. Everything we had was cooked fresh and came out pipping hot and was delicious. Unlike me my wife has still been eating chinse food over the years, where I have been unable to, and said she rated it as one of the best Chinse restaurants she's ever eaten in. It's been a long time since I've found somewhere that caters so much gluten free dishes. All I can say about the other negative reviews is they must be talking about a different restaurant to the one I went to. Absolutely top notch!

With out question the most deplorable Chinese I have ever eaten 1 person taking order over the phone - moron 2 duck appears to have been stood on and consisted of mainly bones and fat 3 the bbq sauce had the appearance of pond water 4 rice was not cooked properly 5 WAAAAAY too much msg “salt” over literally everything Not happy at all will not be ordering from there again and would not recommend anyone else to order from here

Would definitely recommend. Food was hot and delicious. Excellent gluten free/ dairy free menu and staff were fantastic in accommodating dietary requirements.

Ordered delivery - very expensive (just to pick on one item, £1.80 each for the four over cooked shriveled prawn toast) but worst is they delivered 40-mins earlier than they said meaning we ate cold from doorstep

We heard about Little Canton's gluten free menu on Facebook and decided to go to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Both our children are Coeliacs and the choice was amazing! We all ate of the GF menu. The waiter (Tony) was knowledgeable and helpful. The food was fast, hot and really good. We had a wonderful evening and will definitely be back!

Food took over a hour to come, once it came it tasted like it had been heated up, praw crackers and rice was dry as anything, and the chicken curry well that did not taste like chicken, and was missing chips

This was a delivery through Just Eat. Food was cold and greasy. I ordered Hong Kong style sweet & Sour chicken. Bits of chicken in a sweet & Sour sauce with a lot of peppers and onions. No batter?? Prawn crackers were stale and chewy. Special fried rice was grim. Used to love this place. Very sad.

Food was very greasy, after eating was told because we didn't order buffet we had to spend a minimum of £28 because of Christmas. Wasn't told this when phoned them twice discussing options. Then had to order extra food I didn't want as a takeaway which i cant eat till monday as family roast today, Was rammed in tight and chair get getting knocked when ever anyone went by, made me feel quite queasy after eating. On the plus side disco was fab!

COELIAC We ordered a takeaway on route to the New Forest for our holiday. I found this gem from reccomendations from social media after lots of coeliac said they do a Gluten free menu and treat allergies very seriously. We ordered so much food as I took advantage of not having had a chinese in sooooooo long but this was SO GOOD and generally one of the best Chinese’s I have ever had. (Please get the Singapore noodles & salt and chilli chicken - they were to die for!!!!!) We had our campervan and they even let us sit and eat our takeaway in the van in the carpark. Will definitely visit again soon!!

Fab night...food was delicious and dj was banging

I am a diagnosed coeliac and heard about this restaurant online that offers a whole gluten free menu. So much to offer. We drove half an hour to this restaurant as there is nothing like this around where I live. We were greeted in a friendly manner by a lovely gentlemen who showed us to our table. I asked for the gluten free menu which was kindly given to me. When it came to ordering the food, the gentleman took my order first and noted down that it was gluten free and then took my partners order. We only waited 10 minutes for our food, which came out hot and fresh and warm plates were placed in front of us. All of the dishes were so tasteful with loads of flavour. We both said it was the best chinese we've had in a long time and will definitely coming back again. The bill was definitely a reasonable price for 4 mains and 2 drinks, even with the gluten free food being slighlty more expensive than the normal menu (only about 40p/50p more)

Our food was delicious, served extremely quickly and the gentleman serving us was so friendly. The place was clean, tidy and relaxing. The 3 course set menu for 2 was great value for money- we had to take the last course home! It was too cold to sit outside but the outdoor seating area looks lovely for the summer.

The ribs were small pieces all dried and crisped beyond edible. There were 8 or 9 pieces only. The rice dish had not much flavour and the beef was all grizzly. Most disappointed in a Chinese for a long time and this is a restaurant!!

Fantastic evening with family and friends for granddaughter's birthday. Food was fantastic and atmosphere was amazing. Highly recommend 👌

We came here for my daughters 16th last July which was amazing and my dads 70th birthday this weekend and had a night to remember. The staff are friendly & the food was delicious & plentiful but what really made the night was the DJ and his music. I love the birthday sing along tradition here and the photos taken of the night. Our table was a loud & mad so Thankyou for putting up with us xx. My dad had the best time xx

This place was good as the Riverside but such a big change. Went on Thursday evening - at 8pm not one table was taken and I was the only one picking up a takeaway. It used to be packed. Food was poor - quite greasy - and sweet and sour prawns was just full of peppers and 8 small prawns. Satay chicken had little flavour. I used to be a regular but won't ever go again.

Worst experience of Chinese food I have ever experienced in my 57 years. The duck was all bone and gristle or skin and more like someone’s leftovers. The sweet and sour had no flavour when it eventually turned up long after my noodles had gone stone cold. Awful experience that I gladly promise never to subject myself to again.

Food very poor quality, cold, very dry. Duck lots lots of bones. Tom yum soup awful. 😫 beef chow main, egg fried rice avoid, ribs even worse. Completely luck of taste. Never again! Have to bin it all. Waste of money!!! Probably the worst take away I ever had!

Had 2 gluten free takeaways from Little Canton and the food has been brilliant both times. Good size gluten free menu and was never too much trouble for the staff to accommodate to me. Would definitely recommend

Wrote a whole review then deleted it as it wasn’t worth the ‘ink’! All I’m saying is that the bin enjoyed it and afterwards I was eating a sandwich to fill myself up! Genuinely the add boiling water to blue packeted noodles, or the ones that come in a plastic pot, had three times as much taste! All the reviews are either terrible or excellent, nothing in the middle..strange that! Make up your own mind

What a waste of money!! Ordered a takeaway via just eat. Only thing i can say was positive was delivery was quick and arrived earlier than expected. Tofu was inedible, burnt on the outside and like foam on the inside, disgusting. Never had tofu like this before. Satay sauce had no flavour, which is quite impressive really. Chow mein also lacked flavour. Sweet and sour chicken was ok, but certainly not worth £7.20 Prawn crackers were either undercooked or stale, with hard bits. All in all £30 wasted and tofu dish thrown straight in the bin. Awful!!

We had a takeaway, worst Chinese food we have had in years. Will not be returning. Chicken curry was dry strips of chicken bulked out with mushrooms. Chilly beef was like cardboard with a standard sauce, disappointing.

Dry satay , no sauce, rice was dry and stuck together. Chicken was sad little crispy bits that tasted of nothing.

Booked this restaurant as a birthday meal and what a mistake. Upon entering the restaurant, we were all shocked how dated and shabby the place was but wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. We shouldn’t have bothered. The food was some of the worst Chinese food we have ever eaten, all the chicken dishes were dry. The duck was dry and over cooked. The plates were dirty. The tablecloths were sticky and your feet stuck to the floor as you walked in! Don’t even get me started on the toilets… half of our party waited until we left to go to the toilet as they were disgusting. Avoid this place at all costs!..

Have eaten at Little Canton both dining in and takeaway a number of time. Can't fault the service or quality and quantity of the food for the price paid. Staff are always friendly and accommodating. I cannot reccomend Little Canton enough as the best local Chinese in the area. Would definitely reccomend the Little Canton Sauce and house sharing platter! Prawn Toast is the best that we have ever had!

Plates weren’t washed, chow mein tasted burnt. Over priced and overall a very poor experience. One to give a miss.

After spending £30+ and the deliver was over 30mins later than given time, the food was cold and and tasteless. The prawns were rubbery and the ribs were 95% bone. Avoid!!! Won't be returning in future

Well having recently moved here moving in night little canton was the choice, without exception 14 people loved it and we still do but not before trying all the others in the area but returning to LC was just so good everything tastes so fresh and good together with the sources of each is a pleasure to the taste buds. When calling they are courteous efficient as are the guys delivering. In essence 5 stars don’t go far enough. Well done LC we will be ordering again this next week.

Tasteless oily food never ordering here again

We were late home and needed food so popped in to see if we could get a take away, staff friendly and accommodating the food was cooked fresh and was still really hot when we got home. Will definitely order form there again as they deliver as well.

We normally use a different Chinese takeaway, however as it was closed for the Chinese New Year we decided to try Little Canton again. Never again. The food was tasteless and couldn’t tell the difference between black bean sauce, curry and the chow mien. Even the egg fried rice was appalling. I’m not entirely sure that the ‘chicken’ in the chicken and black bean dish was actually chicken. Chewy is an understatement. The only edible thing was the crispy seaweed. It gets one star only because I couldn’t give it zero. Complete waste of money, and ended up making a cheese and ham sandwich for dinner. Don’t waste your money.

Oh god please don’t order from here. Spent £68 on what was so dry I/we literally couldn’t eat it. Everything tasted the same; even the curry sauce and sweet and sour. The rice was starchy, the satay chicken couldn’t even be cut with scissors, chicken balls, I can’t bring myself to write about them, shredded crispy chicken, god knows what that was. More like burnt toast crumbs with burnt chicken, chips; more like scraps. Not one bit of potato in the chips and the spare ribs were like jelly. Now I know a Chinese is never an excellent pallet and is touch and go, so I’m not fussy but this was shocking. 7 of us eating and not one of us ate our dinner this evening. I never write a bad review but this was so bad I just have to. Spent £69 and would have had more satisfaction from a fresh slice of plain bread - and that’s boring! Don’t go here; don’t waste your money. The food was 100% old and reheated and dried out in a microwave. It really was terrible 🤢. Unfortunately not given me the option to post a photo wonder why? 🤔

Very pleasant. Warm welcome. Loads of space between the tables which was great. Fresh, delicious food. Granddaughter loved making pancakes for the rest of the family. Set meal £25 per person- too much food for us! Please can you have better tonics, the gin wasn’t very nice due to the tonic.

Worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. After a 2 hour wait for our main course the waitress tells us they are prioritising take always. Excuse me but aren’t we the one’s paying a surcharge. When the food finally arrives it was tasteless. Hair on my fiancés chilli chicken. Nothing but fat, gristle and bone for duck. Argumentative front of house and refused to take any blame and were rude. I actually felt like not paying at all after no discount was offered and they just kept arguing with me. I didn’t lower myself to their unprofessional level of standards and paid in full. I will never go there again and will be advising everybody else your better off saving your money. 10 minutes walking through the door and I’m the toilet with the squirts farting rusty water 🤦🏻‍♂️

Absolutely shocking experience, ordered food, an hour later part of it arrived, called them to find out what was going on, got told they would send driver straight out with missing bits ……….almost an hour and a phone call later the missing bits arrived but rest of food now cold so sent it all back with driver asking for a full refund. I was told kitchen busy, maybe they should stop taking orders for a while to make sure they get what they’ve got correct. Won’t be using them again. If I could give no stars I would have.

Food plentiful and tasty if a tad on cold side (difficult I know to produce hot food in such large numbers). Music was too loud during the meal making it difficult to hold a conversation but disco later was good. My only real complaint was the waiter (wearing a jacket) who spent the evening waiting tables etc chewing gum with his mouth open - very off-putting !!

A unique cosy restaurant by the riverside with car parking. Dancing hours on Friday and Saturday evenings for ladies and gentlemen. Great value for money to have a family night out! Postscript The recent open-air extension by the river adds special ambience to Little Canton - unique cosy restaurant to have a date.

We have been using Little Canton - and previously Riverside - for many years with no complaints at all but we feel that the quality and flavour has declined recently. Our last two take away experiences particularly have not been as good. Eg Very chewy beef in the Chow Mein and mostly peppers and onions and lack of chicken in the Hong Kong Sweet and Sour chicken

As the name suggests, this place is well rooted to an authentic culture. Probably the best restaurant around the area. Quay views & an amazing vibe all at an affordable price range. Brian is a special mention for his amazing hospitality! Will definitely visit again 💯.

Great food, atmosphere and service

Firstly what an absolute ripoff, I had orange and green things in with my chips, I also ordered a curry that didn't come with rice to had to pay nearly £4 more for boiled rice!!!!! The curry was the greasyest fatty curry I have ever tasted which i had to warm up when i got home 5 mintues down the road that went straight in the bin ! The carrots in the curry were raw and not cooked one bit, called up for the second time and got stinking attitude for no reason worst £40 I have ever spent will not be ordering from there again

Ordered from justeat, the food was cold - the chicken was precooked from a packet bought from tesco - the chips were soggy and half undercooked. The rice was so dry it felt like i was eating flower and half of it was raw

Overwhelmed with takeout, waiting nearly an hour for food. Really expensive for the small portion sizes and 99% sure they reuse the oil for the noodles (as they have a definite burnt taste). Only saving grace is that the people seem really nice.

We have only been using there takeaway service during the Pandemic but if the standard of food we have had so far is anything to go by, eat at this restaurant would be very good and we can’t wait to try.

Arrrived 20 mins earlier than expected but agree with other reviewers….for the price paid this is poor quality and with some dishes we ordered, food was completely tasteless. There was a lot of oil evident in the packaging and the dishes themselves. It’s a long time since we’ve ordered from here and hoped it would have improved. Sadly we were disappointed yet again and will not be ordering in the future. Such a shame as Riverside food was the closest food to the real thing we’d had while living in HK.

We have had 8 previous meals from "Little Canton" the first five were unbelievably Good ! latterly they have become gradually "second rate" .. Last Nights was absolutely appalling The Duck was greasy more Fat than Flesh Skin seemed under cooked the Expensive Special Canton...

Delicious !. After a little blip with our order, it was dealt with promptly and a voucher was issued. We ordered again and the food was amazing. Tasted great, hot and one of the nicest we have had. 10/10 rating from us and we will definitely be returning.

Chicken was hard like it was over cooked ribs tasted crispy and burnt and had no taste rice was soggy tiny little portions very disappointed never been to a restaurant this over priced and food was disgusting...I would highly not recommend this place!!! Also very dark dull atmosphere hardly any lights in the restaurant. So you're practically eating your food with a dim light.
