Excellent food. We ordered a set menu and the quality was very good and we got a generous amount.

Absolutely beautiful food, Huge portions and really fresh and tasty. We will definitely be coming again. We had a chicken curry with rice, some bbq ribs and chips. Everything was fantastic! Also really friendly service and kind family run restaurant. Can't wait to try some other dishes. Thank you 😊

Delicious food, big serving and friendly staff!

The service was so bad! We sat there for 10mins but nobody gave us menu! But there were just 2 tables of customers. And we ordered and wait for 30mins,but nothing came, then I asked the waiter, he said I didn’t order anything ! We were so angry and hungry, it was a bad time for us and I was so disappointed!!!!

This was our first time at dining in at this establishment although a few of us had used their takeaway service on occasions.There was some household clutter around the place but it did not interfere with our table seating 9 of us. We decided to wait and have all the meals delivered at the same time. On arrival, the food was hot and nicely presented. There was a good variety of food ordered, and there were no complaints regarding the cooking. In fact, there were compliments all around. We have decided to frequent on a more regular basis. There was no service charge, but obviously, there was VAT added to the bill.

Food took over an hour to come. We had a fixed menu of which was supposed to serve soup first.....it came in the middle of the meal. The food was not great... 5/10

The braised pork with pickled vegetables is a pre-made dish. At this price, the meat is so fat and greasy. Do you dare to take a bite? I almost vomited on the spot. Don’t say that Mao Xue Wang is the signature dish, it’s too small and too pitiful. Not to mention expensive, it tastes terrible. It was an advertisement posted by a certain book...

The food is really nice, the best beef in black bean sauce I ever had, my best friend love the crispy duck with pancake so much, forgot to take the photo, I would definitely come and eat again, staff are friendly too.

After reading the previous reviews, on a visit to Portsmouth, my wife and I paid a visit , the beer for a small bottle was expensive, the food was in our opinion, at best poor. The wrong rice came , later the correct rice came but smelt dreadful, was not eating that. In our opinion not a good experience, terrible food , ambience not good. Not a place to recommend or re visit. The starter which consisted of spare rib , satay chicken , seaweed , and prawn toast was absolutely dire . We both expected to be ill in the night . Avoid this so called restaurant

Amazing food and everything is so good. I’d like to highly recommend if you want to try the Chinese cuisine. The price is reasonable and the vibe is great. The staff are really friendly as well.

We ordered a takeaway for 4 people a variety of dishes they were all so tasty, and plentiful. The chips are incredible really crispy on the outside and soft inside.

Travel to Portsmouth and ramdonly picked a Chinese restaurant. It was quite nice with a comfortable environment and background music. The food was quite authentic with a friendly price. By the way, the staff was so kind, the conversation with her brought us beautiful memory for our trip. I will definitely come back if I visit Portsmouth next time!

Delicious food. Friendly staff. First visit but would recommend trying. Constructive criticism: Suggest letting customers complete their Starters before serving main dishes. We had only just been served Starter when Mains were served too.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS Ate here yesterday, when ordering the woman didn't understand that we wanted a gluten free menu, my partner us currently in hospital after having an allergic reaction. The woman didn't even understand what dishes we were trying to order. Obvious cross contamination of the food.

Spicy boiled fish is so delicious! Perfect spiciness! The boss is also very nice! The food is served very quickly! highly recommended! I am here for tourism, but I will come here to eat again next time I come to this city! ! The food is delicious and I strongly recommend the spicy fish! Great customer service! It was the best food I had in Portsmouth. Red soup food is a taste that Koreans will like. The meat on the left is really delicious and it's fantastic to eat rice with vegetables under the meat. The noodles in the third picture are also very delicious, and chicken dishes with pepper and salt are good to eat with beer. I envy the residents of Portsmouth because there is a restaurant like this. To Koreans visiting Portsmouth... It's really delicious here. There is a spicy chicken dish, and if you order and try it, they will give you 3 bottles of Tsingtao. I ordered it because it was similar to Dongpo Pork, but there was some dryness at the bottom. If you eat it with rice and raw meat, it will be soggy. If you like malatang, order the red dish shown in the picture. it is delicious. It's a shame there's no Kaoliang liquor, but Tsingtao is so delicious. Be sure to come here and eat. I came yesterday and came again today haha.

Visiting from London and had a very happy Saturday evening with authentic Chinese food, peaceful atmosphere and superb service. Will come back again when we are next in Portsmouth. (Photo was the spicy chicken we had)

I ate the former taste my favourite food again tonight. I forgot to take a picture of the delicious food. After the difficult period of the past 3 years, I finally waited for the real owner and the former chef to come back. They reopened before the Chinese New Year in 2023. I like their spicy dishes , it’s so delicious and so beautiful .

Waited over an hour to get served one dish.. not sure how long I will have to wait until all the dishes arrive. It’s cold and it doesn’t feel like they turn on the heating here as some staff are wearing down jackets.

It is a lovely restaurant, but unfortunately, it is permanently closed.

It tastes great and is cheap! There is no service charge, which is much better than London.

A real hidden gem. We visited a few years ago and again recently. The food was just as good. It was nice to see that it was busy with what appears to be locals. The staff were great. They were attentive and accommodated our kids preferences. Food was freshly prepared and the menu has some items not normally on some which was great. Definitely be back when in the area.

very satisfied! The authentic Sichuan and Hunan cuisine, especially the couple's lung slices, stir-fried pork, and Maoxuewang, made me feel like I was back in my hometown. It was so delicious. Our family of three ordered so much that we couldn't finish it, so we packed it all up and took it home. . I am very happy to be able to chat in Chinese with the waiter sister. Thank you sister, the chef and the boss!

18 Spicy Sausage The fried sausage is very crispy and delicious! 25 Fish-flavored eggplant stew I have never felt much about this dish, but it tastes like fish-flavored eggplant 27 Hot and Sour Chicken Mix A favorite for offal lovers! Although it’s not offal, it does have chicken gizzards, which is delicious! 49 Maoxuewang, plenty of ingredients, not too spicy, tastes pretty good Sour plum soup. I thought it was fresh plum soup, but it turned out to be bottled and not tasty. The price is not very expensive, not bad

If I could give -1 I would The lady at the entrance was polite, but no knowledge of menu. Mixed starter was more than shocking, like chewing wood & that is a polite description. We returned the food. The ladies bathroom needs more than a good clean. We were charged over £22.00 for an Asda bottle of white wine which cost £6.50 in store - yes I know we are all trying to make a living - but this is ridiculous, I have a pic of wine Will not return

AVOID AVOID AVOID Waited an hour and a half for our mains that never arrived and the communication was incredibly poor Upsetting as the reviews here were good but we never got to try anything other than the packaged/premade fried starters. We also never got our soups. Been to a lot of Chinese restaurants all over the country and this one was terrible. The food is not as good as some of the reviews suggest. If you have low standards then it's ok but it is expensive. Delivery orders however seemed to be prioritized and were constantly being sent out whilst our tables and others waited so long. They were busy with 1 chef but made no mention that the waits would be this long. After 90 minutes our food wasn't even started. No discount was offered for the massive delays and when I politely asked if a single soft drink could be removed from the bill as an apology I was told "but you drank it" so paid full price for a wasted evening. Wine was nice though. Won't be coming back. Go somewhere that values your custom.

I do not recommend this place. Four of us went in on a random Wednesday evening. Waited an hour and a half and in that time all we got were our drinks and a single starter plate. We got charged £46 for a bottle of wine, two juices and a starter... No compensation or apology for the wait. When we asked how much longer it would be they said they had another table to serve and then ours was next! We'd already waited too long! The place had a few tables full when we got there but even a new table of one was in and out before we even got the starter. I'd gone here because previous reviews seemed very good on quick inspection but they must have been takeaway orders because those were flying out the door as we waited. The food we did get was all overcooked and not anything I'd call home about either. Not impressed, will not be returning.

Waited 2 hours seated in the restaurant, no communication of how long our food was going to be, heavily prioritized takeaways, we asked to pay for our drinks so we could leave and get a McDonald's in the end because we never even got any food, very disappointed

I knew it was going to be good as soon as I sat down on the uncomfortable wooden furniture as is traditional for China. Service was brisk and accommodating. We were offered the chinese menu (luckily we read Mandarin) and were able to order some staples of chinese cuisine. Food was tasty and authentic we will be going again.

I visited with my Chinese wife so we were treated to a Chinese menu. Very spicy tofu dish, spicy shredded potatoes too. Absolutely superb mainland Chinese food from Hunan. They are trying to bring items from the Chinese menu onto the general menu, which is more to western taste. Thanks for the great food and hospitality.

I ordered two dishes, which tasted really good and went well with the meal. However, I personally feel that it is slightly inferior to Xie Fei's Hunan restaurant. The reason is that the ingredients in the wild pepper shredded beef are: dried radish in the former and shredded onions in the latter, which lacks the meaning of authentic Hunan cuisine. The service was very good and the guy at the front desk was very nice.

Visited Portsmouth for four days and ended up order food from this restaurant three days in a row! I can guarantee that there’s not a single restaurant cooking Chinese cuisine as decent as they do in metropolises like London, not to mention the friendly price and wide range of menu New fortune is offering. I could literally order by pointing randomly and never had a single course let me down. The chef and staff are also super friendly and helpful. Absolutely FIVE STARS.

Been here twice now during our stay the food is very nice with very good portion size but it is a bit on the pricy side £8 for mushroom fried rice is pushing it a bit.

The spicy and sour chicken is really delicious😋

It can be said that it is one of the best in the UK...but it seems that it is not so delicious recently. I hope I will continue to work hard.

The food is 5 star. Walked from Gunwharf 5 minutes to this place and the food was awesome. Generous portion size and a nice range in the menu. One of my group has poor eyesight, so the menu print was difficult to read. It was very quiet and yes the restaurant could do with some tlc, but the food was awesome and highly recommended.

I've only ever had takeaway from here, but it has always been good. I've rarely seen the restaurant itself busy, but often it is frequented by Chinese patrons so I work on a bit of an assumption that the food is possibly less 'westernised' than other Chinese restaurants.

First class food and staff fantastic

Ordered just king prawn fried rice, cost only £5.60. Drove around within 10 mins it was ready Collected it walked out enjoyed it.. Very tasty prawns too. I'll go there again
