This is one of my favourite places to go for dinner! The ‘ants climbing a tree’ dish is so delicious and all the other food too! You’ve got to try their milk tea - everything here is always magnificent.

We ordered vegetarian food to take away, the rice was overcooked and tasted like it was prepared with meat/fish, the noodles just tasted bad. Even the vegetable spring rolls tasted off somehow. The whole order was inedible and we had to throw it all away.

I took my family to this Chinese restaurant last month, and I have to say, we were pretty disappointed. The lamb dish was a big letdown – it just didn’t have any flavor. And the stir fried pork? Mostly fat with hardly any lean meat. It was really off putting. We also tried a soup with fish slices and tofu in a broth with some greens, but the taste was just too overpowering and not in a good way. The last time I visited, the food was quite good, but for some reason, this time it was very terrible! One thing they did get right was the portion sizes. There was plenty of food, so that’s a plus. But honestly, for the price we paid, I expected a lot better. We could have had a much nicer meal at somewhere like Nando’s for the same money. In short, while there was a lot of food, the taste and quality just weren’t there. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on our experience.

If you want some real Chinese food ( spicy and northern cuisine ). This is the best place in Brighton area. Decor is not up to date at all. But I guess I can put up with it as long as the food is good.

Chinese restaurant with more authentic Chinese dishes and flavours. It’s popular among native Chinese customers. The food is good here and portion sizes are decent too but still a bit overpriced. The main dining room upstairs would need a bit of refurb to be fair it’s very outdated.

Great place! Really authentic and varied Chinese menu with incredible amount of vegeterian options. If you order from the authentic menu, the translations aren't always super helpful, but most menu items have acompanying pictures, meaning even if you aren't with a Chinese speaker you can still explore interesting dishes!!! Really highly recocomend. Me and my friends go around once a month, and have never been disappointed

We ordered for eight from the menu which is in Chinese. Mandarin - which is easy if you get a Chinese person to order for you! The food was really great, not a scrap was left, and we were all full. Even my fussy son enjoyed it all. The main comment to me was “when can we go again?” So many dishes that we didn’t have, so we will be back soon.

I've been a couple of times and I would go more... But, it's really quite hard to work out which of the more authentic Chinese options (which is what I'd prefer to the typical UK style Chinese food) are vegan. And, for 2 people the portions are absurdly large. It makes it daft trying to have a variety of dishes. We bought two dishes rice and noodles and had enough food for 6 people... Smaller, less expensive portions would be far better. It's a shame as the food, when you can work it out, is delicious.

Extremely disappointing. Not the same since Covid. This restaurant has no expertise on bookings. We arrived at 6.30 PM when it was virtually empty but in 30 minutes, three tables of eight people arrived. Huge pressure for the chef and small kitchen. Needless to say, some groups waited for over an hour to obtain some food. My experience of the food was not good. Over seasoned meat dishes made the food inedible. When complaining, there was attitude rather than acceptance. On the positive, the waiters were professional and excellent. The issue is the owner as it is clear that even after all these years, she needs to manage booking times so people do not all arrive together in large groups and all be disappointed with the waiting time and furthermore poor quality food due to chef time pressures. I will not be coming back. If you decide to go, it is a lottery. Not recommended.

As you enter this very typical Chinese style restaurant you go upstairs to be seated and greeted by two ladies who inform you that there are two menus. One, Chinese for the western taste and the other Chinese food for Chinese people. It appears to be frequented by many Chinese people too! The first menu has the standard fare of most Chinese restaurants - sweet and sours etc. The second has a whole range of different dishes. We went as a party of five; two had the standard English Chinese type menu and three of us had the Chinese style. Apparently - slightly more expensive but bigger portions. We asked for recommendations and ended up with a tofu and beef dish, an aubergine dish and a quite hot chilli and cumin lamb dish plus an egg fried rice. There was plenty to eat and they were all very good but the aubergine dish came in a sweet and dark sauce and was absolutely delicious. What a find. Two of us had a beer and one had jasmine tea and we paid about £10 each. I left full and very happy and my wife can't wait to go back to try some more of that different menu.

My first and my last visit. Terrible experience. Please see photos. There were only 3 tables after the entrance. But there’s a sign that there’s more upstairs. Two ladies were sitting on one of the table. The two unoccupied tables weee both dirty. I sat and the waitress / cashier/ came to spray and wipe. Took my order and later served after 30 mins. She served a large bowl of beef soup and prawn toast. The prawn toast( you can taste the toast and find the prawn… the soup and prawn toast also very greasy and you can taste the oil. What’s worst, the cutlery given to me are dirty. Thankfully my food doesn’t require to use knife and fork. I took a pic. I didn’t finish. Can’t stand the taste. When I use the toilet, it’s not dirty but it’s not my liking. I find the price expensive .

A very warm welcome, the Lady in charge could not have been more helpful. You can choose between an authentic menu or a more run of the mill Chinese staples that most are familiar with. We decided on the authentic menu, which had some very traditional items which the average British person would probably not entertain! However we were asked what type of food we liked and given recommendations. We had an authentic Kung Po chicken which was unlike the normal Chinese fare, Beef with cumin and chilli and an aubergine dish which was fabulous and unlike any we had eaten before. Very large portions, which personally I'm not keen on as I don't like to waste food. The restaurant itself is a little tired but the food more than made up for this. Would definitely return if in Brighton again- unlike China Garden which I would never return to!

Most of my time when I go there - all I need is my 2-3 portions of dumplings and Chinese music from the speaker. I'm getting good service. Not just good - but FEELING LIKE A T HOME service. Good food. Vrey friendly and fast service. Yes, maybe some touch-ups in the bathroom or hall needs to be made, but I'm going to eat, not to shower. It's the only place even to compare with Ivy, where you get customer service and good food. Small chat, short story make you feel comfortable. Asian people, Middle Easter people - always know how to welcome customers. How to offer food and product with no pressure. They are always looking forward to see you as returning customer. It is very very rare when I can give to anyone 5 stars. I'm giving to New Era Restaurant.

Had a mango drink that was advertised as being filled with mango chunks, but came as just a mango flavoured milk tea with no real fruit at all. Didn't realise until I was home, as it was put in a bag, and when I contacted on Instagram to ask if this was a quality issue and never got a response. Very over-priced for what it was, and really felt like false advertising to me. Wouldn't go back unfortunately.
