Hins Restaurant in Brighton and Hove

We had an early dinner and we were the only diners so the restaurant lacked atmosphere. They were however a stream of deliveries going out so it looked good We have a very tasty meal with all the dishes of good quality

Nice warming food, is not what it used to be but still good, menus could be re printed as they are a bit dated and sticky

Lived in Hove over a year now and have never tried Hins before. Glad we booked a table as people were getting turned away as busy! Duck and pan cakes were really nice and also everything we ordered we did really enjoy. Portions big and price very reasonable. We will defs be coming back again. The staff were really friendly and chatty too!

Best salt and pepper prawns eve.. My daughter loved the dragon prawns. Portion sizes were big. All the food was very tasty. Nice friendly service also.Would definitely recommend.

I was able to book a table with ease, and was given a very warm welcome and shown to my table straightaway. I ordered a drink as I was being seated and it came, along with some really fresh prawn crackers and sweet chilli sauce, in really good time. I made my main course order and that arrived to the waiter a short time afterwards, but the Manager whisked it away immediately which was slightly disconcerting. I asked what was the matter and was told it was the wrong dish and not what I had ordered. I wasn’t convinced as the manager and the waiter had a good long prod around it at the bar once they had taken it back. I ignored that, and had a very nice meal when it then did arrive. I was so hungry I wasn’t too fussed why the original plate had been taken back.

always order chow main and Singapore noodles and we're never disappointed! the food is fresh not greasy and just soooo good! we ordered chicken satay and was the best chicken skewers ever! spring rolls were as good as the skewers! Thanks again Hins for delicious dinner

Ordered the Tofu with salt and Chilli, it was awful. Dont know what they coat the tofu with but does not taste great and the tofu was way overcooked, basically looked like diced cardboard. The beef with bamboo shoots and mushroom was not great either, the beef was tasteless and chewy. The only thing that was good was the slow cooked pork and rice.

Been here many times and have always eaten well presented and tasty food. Staff are very friendly. Ambience is welcoming and comfortable.

Went there as was craving a Chinese, had a lovely starter which was chilli squid but then me and my parner both ordered the bang bang chicken and it was terrible. Nothing like we expected - was essentially just plain white chicken in some sweet gravy. If you’ve ever been to Camden market and are expecting the same thing you will be sorely disappointed. Other than it was a nice dining experience.

First time here. The staff front of house were lovely. Ordered a take away meal. Torn...the curry sauce was best I have had in years. The egg friend rice gave two a small scoop of rice each would have expected a larger serving. The stir fried veggies were wet and slimy looking. Lemon Chicken wonderful. The free prawn crackers stale. All served in horrible plastic cartons So it's a mixed review...a step away from being wonderful .

We popped in on a wet windy Sunday evening. The warm greeting and friendly banter cheers everyone up. Very nice presentation of the food. The peking duck was fab. Shredded chilli beef is some of the best I've ever had. The steamed rice was fragrant and fresh greens delightful. We ate in. And not disappointed. If your going to get a take away order directly from them.

Ive been going there on n off 6 years - here's my take on the dishes I generally buy Salt n chilli chicken - good always tasty Crispy beef - I defy you to find one piece of beef that "chews" you are buying deep fried batter only Beef in black bean - very small amount of beef. Which would be ok if it was quality but it isn't ! VERY fatty ! Egg fried rice - good but lacks peas (personal criticism !) Peking chicken - v good Special fried rice - ok to good ( other Chinese takeaways around offer better red pork in theirs ) Kung po chicken - chicken is deep fried in batter which I sometimes like I just wonder if that means you can use slightly lower grade chicken Other takeaways you can see the chicken as not coated in batter . Really good sauce with it though lots of carrot and nuts and spicy. Nice experience to dine inside once allowed again but they IMO penny pinch too much on the actual meat ingredients.

Lovely food. Hong Kong sweet and sour chicken balls, egg fried rice and some prawn crackers. Good taste and prompt delivery

To celebrate our daughter's birthday we decided to try Hins and we were not disappointed. The quality and portions were excellent. Tasted very natural and not your usual bog standard Chinese. No glutinous mass. Not the cheapest but you pay for quality and we will go there when it reopens.

First time ordering from Hins, but it won't be the last. Our food arrived promptly, hot and tasted fresh. Lovely!

We had come once before and found it pricey, though delicious. Came back for Eat Out To Help Out when they let us book up for an early table even though they were fully booked, as long as we were out by 7:30, which we were. We opted for the Set Menu and found the food to be absolutely delicious. Not only that, but the portions are decent and we were both well stuffed by the time we left. Service was polite and friendly. Everything was clean. Recommended.

Went here for a celebratory meal and although the food was fine there was a great deal of room for improvement in other areas. Service was very good however food took ages to turn up, the cold drinks were not cold and the restaurant was extremely warm to say the least. Personally I don't think the experience is worth a return shot as there are so many excellent other places to visit.

Booked based on reviews was trying to get a Monday night but but showed fully booked with new government scheme so went on the Sunday. We was a family of 5, we decided to order the set meal for me and my partner and the kids meals from the set menu. The kids meals was great value for money and food was really nice and staff couldn’t of been more helpful and will be going back. Going to be totally honest we would have given 5 stars but the toilets down stairs let our experience down which is a shame.

Popped in for Crispy Duck preceded by Prawn Tempura And HK chicken bang bang. Washed down with Tsing Tao beer. Great food and service.

Food was delicious and the staff were very polite and helpful. The washroom Area could Have done with a splash of paint and deep clean though

I echo the sentiments of the review below. Ordering is really simple, and hassle free,, delivery always bang on time, hot and the food has been excellent. We have eaten takeaway only but have been very impressed - yes it is slightly pricier, but really tasty and excellent portions. The only place we get Chinese from now.

The restaurant is obviously closed because of Covid-19 but I having read the review below I wanted to add my own.I have eaten here on countless occasions, had Chinese New Year here with friends and had numerous deliveries and it is in my opinion one of the best restaurants in hove. The staff are brilliant, the food is always amazing both eat in or at home and although it’s not cheap as the old adage goes you get what you pay for.I have never resented leaving a tip when I’m happy with the service and food although everybody is different but I can honestly say that I have never left this restaurant hungry or feeling that I’ve been short changed. A few months ago we ordered a takeaway delivery for around 24 people for my kids birthday and it still turned up all piping hot within about an hour. Great place to go to when things have returned to normal.

I looked at the menu in the window which was £8.95. There was prawn toast, egg fried rice, ribs and chicken and pineapple with ginger. It was well presented on one plate with 4 sections. Very disappointed in the portion size. There were 2 tiny ribs about 3 tablespoons of the chicken dish with 5 small pieces of chicken. I should have noticed I was the only diner in for lunch. No one else came in while I was there. When I paid the bill he charged me an extra 90 p on top 10% gratuity. Won't be back there again. I was still hungry when I left.

We came to Hins for a meal on Chinese New Year. The restaurant was busy but this didn’t in any way affect the wonderful, friendly service. We ordered a selection of tofu and vegetable dishes which were all cooked to perfection. It’s was great to have so many vegan dishes available. I honestly couldn’t fault anything about our meal and would definitely return.

Polite and helpful staff, delicious food would definitely recommend. If I could give a higher rating I would!

My wife and I took my mum here for her 80th birthday. It was a big treat and there was no holding back on what we ordered. That said, £114 for 3 people is an expensive meal in my world. This included one bottle of wine, and we did have three courses. What I would say is that from the moment we arrived until we left, the service was exemplary; friendly, polite and knowledgeable. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere welcoming. Everything was very clean. As for the food, it was wonderfully tasting Chinese food, and no hint of greasiness. It was great. I suppose in the end you sometimes pay for what you get. This is a lot more than I can normally afford, but it was brilliant. I would probably go back again for a special occasion.

A little over priced although the food was delicious, hot quickly served. The waitresses were so happy and helpful.

We ordered a selection of meals for home delivery at 8pm Christmas Eve. By 9.10pm our meals had not arrived and the staff were not answering the phone so I drove to the restaurant to check what was happening. They said the driver had left 10 minutes earlier. Upon my arrival back home the meals had still not been delivered. When they eventually arrived some dishes were missing, others were wrong and what was there was over cooked, or tasted dreadful. We phoned them, they apologised and gave us a £15 refund. We will not be using Hins again.

We went here on a Tripadvisor recommendation, because our usual Chinese restaurant was full. It was a gloomy experience. The food came very quickly and the best review, would be "average" The black plates were attractive, but the food was not. the bill for the "set menu" was £59.40 for 2 of us

Went for dinner on a Sunday evening (9 of us). Whilst we were quite boisterous the restaurant staff dealt with us very well indeed and provided us with a good level of service. The food was also very good and I have no hesitation in recommending this place.

Our first (and last) visit this evening was very disappointing. The food lacked flavour and was very bland and was by far no where near as nice as our local Chinese takeaway we usually order from. I asked for 2 more pancakes so we could finish of the rest of our duck and was abruptly told we must order another portion of 6 or nothing. Great customer service, not! It was one of those meals that when the bill came I begrudged paying it, especially when it was over £100 for 3 of us (including wine). Definitely would not return.

Been here 2 times now. There's not too much character to the restaurant inside, but the atmosphere is still fairly pleasant and staff are very polite. The quality of the food is excellent and reasonably priced. If you like Chinese food, you will have a nice meal here. On a side note, we asked for pancake rolls which were not on the menu but they still made some for us.

Anytime anyone mentions Chinese takeaway in our family, Hins is the go to restaurant! quick friendly service and reasonably priced as well!

Had Thai Green King Prawn curry, noodles and rice Plus prawns and scallops. Bottle sparkling water £3.20 (not a rip off) Bill totalled £38.50 incl 10% service charge. Service was good and friendly staff

One of the better takeaways with Chinese duck and spare ribs.It took 10 minutes to go home but it tasted like it had been served in the restaurant.

I tend to come here after a tough month in said sales. Whether its my anniversary, my girlfriends birthday or my boss is paying - we always choose China Hins PLC. Fantastic Chinese, whatever the occasion. Pony. JZ

One our favorite places to celebrate or just to have a fab meal to cheer us up. We have always had good service, in a classic but cosy ambience. The sizzling dishes are great and they have a lovely taster and lunch menu which is good value.

Delicious and a lot of options to choose from. Our meals were fresh and flavourful. I would recommend the Hins Curry or the Monkfish curry. Both delicious. The salt and pepper tofu started was also great. Definitely a good choice for a nice Chinese meal.

Good quality food, good service (a little on the slow side between courses, but I prefer that...I find you are often rushed at most Chinese restaurants) and overall a good evening. Menu is a little expensive, but I feel it’s worth it.

We had a two course meals set lunch. Suppose to be £11 with rice but we op for noodles so we paid extra £2. I had chicken satay for starter and roast duck with noodles. It was utterly delicious. My husband and a friend had spring rolls for starter with roast duck. Quiet and cosy decor. Reasonable price with polite staff.

Was looking forward to visiting the Hin Restaurant as has reasonable reviews. But, found it very average in both food and service. Not going back.

The duck is very good and I can recommend it. I also had hot and sour soup which was also good. However, we had 3 different beef dishes and all three had poor quality stringy beef. 2 of the dishes were apparently fillet steak. This "fillet" beef was really thickly cut making it particularly difficult and unpleasant to eat given its stringy and chewiness. Given the cost of the dishes, the restaurant can use better quality meat.

We have been visiting this restaurant and ordering takeaways for nearly 6 months and felt it was our favourite in Hove , we have been shocked at the very rude price hike on the menu . All items have been increased £1 plus which has made this place less affordable for us and many others.

We wanted a Chinese in Hove and Hins was the closest to our accommodation. We ordered the dragon sharing platter for starters, which was perfectly presented and tasted wonderful.

Been here 3 times now and always had a lovely meal and superb service. Very good veggie options and dishes children enjoy. Recommended it to my parents and they too had a lovely meal and really enjoyed the service and would definitely return. So yep I shall keep coming back.

We visited here for the first time today and had a really lovely lunch. We opted for one of the set plates of four dishes, my friend had the green curry plate and I had the lemon chicken. All the food was delicious. Really fresh and tasty, and very filling. The service was great, and I look forward to trying the evening menu soon.

Always a good experience dining in this restaurant the menu has a large range of dishes and because of this it is tempting to over order and then overeat. Staff are attentive and food served promptly.

Visited here with 3 other couples to celebrate a birthday. The staff were very friendly and interactive. We had one of the set menus and it was all superb tasty food.

We came in here over the weekend as it offered a children’s menu and one of my children was not very hungry. There was a good choice of food on the menu, with plenty for all tastes, including vegetarian. Our starters (vegetarian spring rolls and dumplings) were excellent and the main courses (two tofu dishes and Singapore noodles) were excellent. The tofu was very well cooked and the Singapore noodles were deliciously spicy. The portion sizes were massive and we just couldn’t eat everything. The waitress was very pleasant and the whole ambience was welcoming. I am not sure why this place wasn’t busier than it was and I can see that some have marked it down. Personally, I think this is a good Chinese and would go back.

Hins has just got that something extra that one is always searching for in a Chinese meal. Obviously a lovely welcome & a straightforward menu....we decided on a set meal for the two of us, whilst sipping on some very good house wine. The sharing starter when it arrived looked stunning-it tasted beautiful-so fresh & light & moreish. And the mains that followed were the same-it was like they’d been specially cooked just for us. All served by attentive smiley staff....the evening was a pleasure.

Visited with a Groupon and we both felt portions were generous considering what we paid. I enjoyed my vegetable tempura as the batter was ligh and not heavy as I’ve eaten elsewhere. My tofu and cashew in yellow sauce was lovely. I think it had been deep fried so was crunchy and not rubbery. The portions of egg rice were generous. My husband did not overly enjoy his chicken and sweet corn soup saying it had that msg taste. His green chicken curry was ok but lacked flavour. The waitresses were very friendly and attentive. Overall a happy vegetarian but carnivore less so.

We booked a table at this establishment last night for my friends 21st birthday. Overall the food quality was good, very filling & tasty. However, we were left disappointed by the crispy aromatic duck course. The spring onion and cucumber portion was not adequate for 4 people, it was barley enough for half the pancakes. The duck portion on the other hand was extremely generous, easily enough to fill another 6 pancakes, so we asked for even more spring onion and celery (at the cost of £1.70, iirc). With comparable restaurants nearby I’m not sure if I’ll return at the current prices.

We love Hins - hubby always the the duck & I ordered the belly pork. It was absolutely delicious - so much so that we ordered a takeaway for tonight. Just finished it (hubby went in twice - (never known before) and everything was superb. Definitely the way to go next time - thank you Hins, see you again soon

Have got takeaway food from here in the past, however, my boyfriend and I decided to eat in. The food was good, we had a sharing platter to start which was lovely, although I maybe wouldn't get it next time as I was getting full by the time I had my meal! The staff were very attentive and we had a good service. I would visit again.

I usually just get take out as live locally. Staff always really polite and friendly. Orders always on time. The food is always fresh, tasty and cooked well. Only criticism is the sauce to take away is a small portion i.e. sweet and sour, prefer more as you get so many balls. Not eaten in before, but looks beautifully presented not your typical Chinese very classy and calming.

Super place, have always had good service here and the crispy duck is to die for. The servers are extremely attentive to your needs and one feels that they really want to delight you..and they do.

From the street this looks like a small restaurant, but it is very deep and has a second floor, so plenty of space.There is a wide range of Chinese dishes, various set meals, plus some Malaysian/Thai options. Every dish we had was a generous portion, distinctive and tasty. Service is friendly and efficient.

I went to HINS to celebrate my birthday with my wife and daughter, after seeing what a good review it had. We went in fully expecting something pleasant, at the very least and we're shocked when the food was average at best, oily and slimy at worst. Even worse, we ordered one platter and then they brought us a few chicken wings, squid and prawn on a plate. It was only later, while we were paying that we saw the size of our bill and realised they had charged us for three platters (£33 for the single plate!) leaving our bill at a whoppingly high number. We talked to the counter staff and he told us how the information was all on the menue and didn't even offer us an apology. However, the menu was misleading and we never ordered that amount of food in the first place. We don't plan on ever going again.

Went here one evening hoping for a decent Chinese meal. Oh, how wrong I was!! Well the restaurant itself is moderate, the two young waitresses were fine – but the food!!! Sweet and sour ‘chicken’ ??? was the most awful I have ever had and the mild curry was absolutely tasteless. Egg fried rice had no egg – even though I asked the waitress if I had been given boiled rice by mistake – No she said! It’s basically a glorified bottom of the range Chinese takeaway as some people did drop in for a takeaway. The worst thing about this place was that the toilets – that are downstairs are situated right next to the open kitchen – no door or partitioning. This I consider is an absolute disgrace. I guess all the people going for a takeaway upstairs have no idea what the kitchen conditions are like downstairs. My advice would be to avoid this place like the plague – you might even get it eating this food!!! AVOID. Will I return? Ha Ha Ha.

Went here for a treat. Expensive and bland. Made the mistake of ordering a Thai green curry. It had a good kick to it but was more like a gloopy soup, like it had been thickened with too much corn flour, a bit odd. Wouldn't bother going here again. Disappointing.

We visited on Sunday as a family and had a wonderful meal with a combination of children and grand parents. The food was wonderful and would definitely recommend the tempura scallops! If we lived more local we would be regulars. The service was really good too - attentive without being overbearing.

Nice food. We had a miso soup and sesame prawn toast for starters. Tasty as expected. And then we had a teriyaki salmon and green curry king prawns which the prawns were divine and their size huge. The salmon was a plainish dish and a bit of a disappointment. The staff were brilliant. The only thing that let us down a bit was the fact that we were overcharged double on the bill but i believe it was a genuine mistake as the manager apologised to us.
