Had MaPo Tofu with steamed rice,which I really enjoyed. The flavours were rich. Very affordable and a generous portion too,so many mouthfuls of eastern deliciousness .

Stopped by because my friend was hungry, it was good with great deals for lunch ! The meat is tender, as well as everything being flavorful with good portions and quality. Will be back again to try more! Edit: went back again, during dinner this time, they offer hotpot buffet but I declined and ordered sweet sour pork, kung pao chicken, etc. The sweet sour pork is the best. They perfected the velveting technique for meats!

It's super delicious. It's the only recognized Chinese restaurant in the UK. I drove all the way from London to Brighton just for this delicious food. The boss is also very nice.

Had some delicious hotpot which was perfect in the winter. All you can eat for £26 wasn't so bad (also comes with a side for 2 people!). The staffs were so helpful if you're a newbie with hotpot ;) Went here several times before for their a la carte dishes and I have no complains. Probably the best Chinese food restaurant in town!

The food were really delicious, very authentic Chinese restaurant with generous portion of the food, and affordable price. This restaurant is highly recommended. The staffs were very nice, and excellent service. When I asked for some tap water, the staff gave hot tap water for me, and cold for my family, amazing, I didn't even tell him that I wanted the tap water to be hot for me. Thank you very much for that.

Generous portions served hot and freshly cooked. Great, friendly and attentative staff. Always a great place to drop in, lunch or dinner. Incredibly tasty and great, genuine and interesting regional Chinese dishes. Had the pigs trotters today. The pineapple slices at end of a big meal, for a refresher was a nice touch. Better than segments of oranges as usually do after a banquet.

Stopped by because we got hungry. Did not expect to be blown away by the food. Great chinese place with an authentic menu. Would definitely come by again if I made another trip to Brighton. I’m sure everything on the menu is good, but we only ordered the prawn toast and prawn noodles.

Authentic Chinese restaurant. It's my favourite one. It's another level. And affordable. Really good. Recommend.

I and my girlfriend walked into Lucky Star today looking for some tasty and affordable chinese food, and we were delighted to find exactly that! I ordered the crispy fried pork with egg fried rice, and she ordered the braised beef noodle soup. The pork was crispy and delicious, whilst the egg fried rice I had it with was possibly the best I have had in my entire life. The braised beef was tender and flavourful too. The man who served us was cheery, polite, and attentive to each customer. The atmosphere left slightly more to be desired, despite the rocking 80/90s music. I felt the restaurant floor was cozy but in need of some modernisation. But you quickly forgot about the surroundings when delving into the food.

Do come here for region specific awesome cooking. Fish in peppercorns and chilli that numb my face and set my tongue on fire? Yes please! They are also very friendly when I go in for lunch, which I have done a few times. I like an 'English' Chinese takeaway too, but this is not that. I can see why people hoping for that might be disappointed.

Wow. The food here is really, really extraordinary. Can't fault it. Be aware, though, it's only a little place with a few dedicated and hard-working staff, so be prepared to wait for things. But it's so worth it. Knocks similar places into a cocked hat. Go.

Our annual 250-mile pilgrimage to Brighton brought us to Lucky Star in Trafalgar Street for the first time. This meal was for a rare gathering of the far-flung family of my best friend to get together and enjoy an evening of good food and company. I know my way around a kitchen, and love cooking authentic Chinese and wider Asian cuisine at home. As such I was more than a little nervous. Had I made a good choice for a meaningful occasion? It turns out that I had! It may not be big, or poshly decorated, but it’s the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere that really matters. In those regards, they excelled. The staff were all extremely friendly and attentive. They serve many of the Westernised dishes that are familiar to any take-away customer. However, it’s SO worth delving a little deeper in to the menu, as this is where the real gems are to be found. From the traditional dishes my “chef’s brain” has even picked up some new ideas to incorporate in to my cooking at home. Will we be returning next year? Our far-flung group was unanimous… WE WILL! Judging how busy it was, booking ahead on a Friday evening is an absolute must. In the interest of balance and absolute honesty, and if I was going to be extremely picky, the "egg fried rice" was glutinous rice with pieces of Chinese omelette mixed through it. Bearing in mind the quality of the main dishes, this is really the tiniest of niggles. As an added bonus, there are two pubs opposite which give that whole little street corner a really great chilled-out social vibe. We enjoyed a few pints of real ale over the road.

The dishes are rich and greasy, the service is friendly, and there are many vegetarian options.

Bloody awful hot pot.. just a bowl of hot stock & a plate of frozen food .. the fish had no meat on it.. avoid like the plague.

Another hidden gem is a very traditional Chinese restaurant. The servers were very attentive and friendly. They explained everything gave us good directions told us how to operate the hot pot told us about the different sources and spices and so on Very very nice indeed. Not a very nice warm and welcoming feel, a bit like sitting in somebody's front room.

The service was amazing and I definitely recommend the hot pot. The people working there were very very sweet as well. Good food for a very good price.

Brighton is a beautiful and happy place. The owner of this Lucky Star Chinese Restaurant cooks first-class Beijing, Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine. The restaurant offers rich grilled fish, delicious saliva chicken, spicy Chongqing hot pot, maocai with a variety of ingredients, and freshly handmade dishes by the proprietress. Cantonese wontons and other dishes are a delight for diners and they will never forget them. Friends who go to Brighton, England, remember to have a meal🌹🌹🌹In addition, the waiters there are also so kind and warm, and they are very friendly to you. Worst food I’ve had in Brighton in 12 years. The meat was processed and frozen, and at £37 per person with only one small bottle of beer each (7 of us) I would avoid this place like the plague. I’ve had better meals at McDonald’s. This place should be shut down. DO NOT GO.

man this restaurant is severely underrated, i’m confident to say they have the best hotpot in brighton, the mala broth is one of the best i’ve ever had. you could mix your own dipping sauce, the hotpot comes with an appetiser (1 for 2 customers) and we choose fried spring rolls. the staffs were incredibly lovely and attentive and the restaurant itself is very homey. they are literally doing charity work at this point cos not only is it so cheap with a great variety of food (even those that are difficult to find in oriental supermarkets) but it’s actually very authentic too!! 100% recommended and i’m sure the other dishes are as good as the hotpot

A lovely authentic family run Chinese restaurant. Myself and a friend always go for the Hot Pot whenever we get the chance. It is always absolutely delicious and worth every penny. The staff are so lovely and genuine, the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. It is just the place you would want to go after a long day.

Meh! won't be returning. If you pay over 12 quid for mixed vegetable seafood noodles expect more than one squid ring, one mussel 3 prawns and a pile of onions! not cheap and not cheerful. Cold plates, skimpy ingredients, and the coup de grace they made a blatant attempt to diddle us on the drinks. So saw that coming, it's that kinda place!

Wow! .. this place is one of the best for hot pot in town ,really good food , a Chinese food cooking and presented in a different way. I heard the chef is the owner of the place and as I chef myself I can assure you that the best restaurants are managed by their chefs owners and this is one of them. 100% recommendable,nice atmosphere,the staff is really really friendly and helpful,they make sure to let you know what is on every meal or the complexity of the hot like stock base,meats,seafood,vegetables are all explained. They have a little menu of tapas to select whilst you wait and is absolutely free of charge. The space is a bit limited however that makes it especial!

Brisket with tofu was unbelievable

Had the spicy beef noodle soup which was delicious and full of Sichuan peppers and other spices. The noodles tasted freshly made and the meat was tender- I would definitely recommend this dish. The atmosphere was really great and the owner was kind and attentive, constantly filling up the complimentary water and bringing extra napkins for us. At £10.50 per bowl I would say this was very well priced as the bowls were massive and difficult to finish.

We ate for a group of five. We ordered big spicy fish dish, stir fried beans, stir fry fried pork intestine and lamb cumin. I would say the fish hot dish is by far the best I have so far in Brighton. The other fried dishes are okay- are great but they all have similar taste in my opinion. The rice portions are large. They delivered the food very quickly. The service is very efficient. They explained we can top up other meats and vegetables in fish with extra 3 pounds for each. They also offer free fruits to all customers. I will definitely come back for the fish again.

Me and my friend craved dumplings and searched for something nearby since we had to take the train only few hours later. We have a rule: if the menu is not in English, it must be worth it. We were ready to order when we noticed the table behind us getting a hot pot. I never had one, my friend is some sort of connoisseur because he lived in China for some time. Let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious! The two broths were rich and perfect for cooking all the meat and fishes we ordered. It’s an all-you-can eat thing, so don’t exaggerate. Order what you fancy and top up when you want something more. The place is not fancy, but it has a very warm and homey feeling. It made me feel welcome. The service was as warm as the dish we ordered. There’s a level of attention I did not expect: we got offered a small plate of prawn crackers while we waited, we ordered tap water and even got a refill (free of charge). The owner even placed some napkins over my coat resting on the chair beside me in case any splatters fell on it (which definitely did because I’m clumsy). At the end of the day, we paid what we were told and there were no hidden extra charges. It was really a fun, relaxing and delicious meal. 100000 out of 10 would recommend!

Strictly speaking, this restaurant is racist. White customers are given free shrimp crackers when they come to sit down, but Chinese customers have to pay for them. This difference in treatment is too obvious! It doesn’t matter if it tastes bad, but it’s still so annoying to do things! This is a racist restaurant where white people are served with free prawn crackers but Chinese need to pay for that. It’s such a discrimination which should haven’t happened in Brighton, a such inclusive and diverse city.

We spent a lovely evening in this restaurant. There’s a wide choice of food! We ordered the spring rolls vegetables, pork dumplings, fried noodles with vegetables and sweet and sour chickens, everything was delicious. Special mention to the staff, who are adorable and take great care of you :)

I really recommend eating here! We ate in the restaurant for a family member’s birthday and the workers were incredibly friendly and happily explained the rules of the hotpot and how to order it as it was our first time having hotpot. The environment and atmosphere made by the workers was homely and comfortable and the food was fantastic, I adored the satay soup base and the portions they would give you were very good, considering it was also bottomless it was amazing.

I just went to this restaurant for lunch with my husband and chose the hot pot to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Two hours of all-you-can-eat and enjoy delicious ingredients. At the same time, Joe and Sophie’s warm hospitality made this lunch perfect, thank you 💋

Im asian and i know the taste of the best hotpot, and i guarantee you, this is one of the best, the soup base of tom yum and chinese mushrooms are great! We tried the unli hotpot and it is worth the money. Surely you will never regret eating here.. service is great as well! Kudos!

We were the first people in on a Saturday. The Waitress was friendly and helpful and made us welcome. The food was great and the modern feel to the restaurant was a bit sparse for me but still lovely. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the HotPot which looked great. Thank you.

Went around looking for dimsums and stumbled here. It's value for money and the chilly oil was fab but the dimsums needs to be more flavourful. Some spices and maybe coriander in it. The owners are super kind people.

It always feel warm to eat the food here. I've been here for 3 times. Highly reccommend noodles and brisket mapo tofu. I saw many people eat the hotpot as well and it looks amazing.

Jo looked after us with extra attentiveness and care, making sure we had a good time. Group ordered: seaweed, sweetcorn soup, chicken fried rice, sizzling seafood. All got eaten and we also got free prawn crackers and melon slices offered to us.

Tried hot pot for the first time here, was a nice experience, all you can eat in 2 hours & we were stuffed, lots of different ingredients to choose from aswell as soup bases & sauces. Have made plans to go again. More of a coffee shop decor & atmosphere rather than a restaurant but the food & service were very good.

Three of us decided to call in after a couple of beers on Sunday evening. The windows were steamed up and, on entering, found the place to be pretty crowded, mostly with what appeared to be Chinese clientele. The decor is nothing to write home about but the food was fine. The menu is sectioned in to what could be described as 'English' Chinese and home-cooked Chinese. My companions chose a spicy battered chicken dish and I opted for the prawn with egg, cucumber and black fungus. This was accompanied by egg-fried rice and brocolli in a garlic sauce...washed down with some Tsingtao beer. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food arrived quickly, piping hot and in generous proportions. In fact, doggy bags were required. The popular dish seemed to be the hotpot which I should be tempted to try on another occasion. All in all a very satisfying visit at a very reasonable price.

We were staying in an apartment nearby and were not disappointed. Ordered crispy duck and pork dish. Delivered on time and food was very tasty. Would try eating in next time visiting Brighton.

Been here a lot it’s very hit and miss sometimes really nice but sometimes cold, depending on when you order can take 2+ hours to deliver but again sometimes can we quicker. Most of the time the food is good.
